Abstract:
The study aims to recognize the motivations to engage in judo depending on gender, age and level of sports experience among nonelite judokas from the Greater Poland region because previous studies mostly concerned the motivations of top athletes. We supposed that there was a relationship between age, gender, level of sports experience and motivations in judo. During the diagnostic survey, judokas completed the Polish version of the Sport Motivation Scale. In order to determine the motivational profiles of judokas, cluster analysis was performed using the k-means method. The highest values were obtained for motivations related to the intrinsic motivation to experience stimulation and the intrinsic motivation to accomplish, while the lowest values were obtained for motivations related to amotivation and external regulation. The research results showed a relationship between experience in judo training and the motivations of judokas; however, the motivations of the judokas were not differentiated based on their gender or age. In our study, the intrinsic motivation to experience stimulation turned out to be more important for judokas participating in competitions, while recreational athletes more often indicated experiencing amotivation. The intrinsic motivation to accomplish and intrinsic motivation to know turned out to be more important for athletes in training for more than 10 years, while amotivation was more often indicated to be experienced by judokas practicing judo for less than 10 years. Respondents who reported high internal motivation values and had a motivational structure they shaped themselves had been training for longer—for more than 10 years. In our study, the three motivational groups of judokas were identified, and we found that judo experience differentiated belonging to groups. It is recommended to check other martial arts and check more variables in the future, e.g., marital status, which is a potentially important factor in the field of sport motivation.

Abstract:

Abstract:
AbstractAs part of a larger longitudinal study, this paper examines the development of Chinese students' EFL learning motivation throughout university undergraduate study, in an increasingly globalized local context. The study adopted a social constructivist perspective of language learning and combined research methods; the participants were over 1,000 undergraduates from 5 universities. The quantitative data were collected through a questionnaire (based on Gao et al. 2004) including motivational intensity and motivation types – instrumental, cultural, and situational, implemented annually from university entrance to graduation. The qualitative data consisted of individual and group interviews, student journals, and observations. Integrated data analysis revealed that sustained high-level long-term instrumental motivations coexisted with an increase of L2- oriented cultural motivations and situational motivation, particularly in the first and fourth year. The increased L2-oriented cultural motivations indicated neither ``ntegrativeness'' in the sense of becoming a member of the native English speaker community, nor a culturally neutral ``global identity.'' The increase of such L2- oriented cultural motivations was also accompanied by a sustained ``social responsibility'' motivation oriented to learners' home culture. Such complexities of motivational development call for further investigation in increasingly globalized EFL contexts.

"The Dark Side of Motivational Practices in Exercise Professionals: Mediators of Controlling Strategies." International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health 17, no. 15 (2020): 5377. http://dx.doi.org/10.3390/ijerph17155377.

Abstract:
According to the Self-Determination Theory, perceived job pressures can coerce professionals to develop more controlled motivations towards their work, and consequently increase the probability of using controlling motivational strategies. This study sought to analyze work-related motivations as mediators between two types of perceived job pressures: organizational constraints and perceptions of clients’ controlled motivation and the use of controlling motivational strategies by exercise professionals. Using a cross-sectional design, involving 366 exercise professionals (172 women), mediation paths were assessed following Preacher and Hayes statistical procedures. Models were adjusted for gender, work experience (years), and the internal tendency to feel events as pressuring. Organizational constraints were associated with lower autonomous motivation for work and the use of controlling strategies. Perceptions of clients’ controlled motivation were associated with work-related amotivation and the use of controlling strategies. Amotivation mediated the association between organizational constraints and controlling strategies. Overall, results support theoretical predictions and previous research, extending it to the exercise domain, highlighting the interplay between job pressures, work-related motivations, and the use of controlling strategies. The understanding of what influences exercise professionals’ motivation, and consequently the motivational strategies they use, is of paramount importance for exercise promotion and the benefit of those who seek their expert guidance.

Abstract:
Purpose – The rapid development of Web 2.0 and social media enables the rise of crowdsourcing. Crowdsourcing contest is a typical case of crowdsourcing and has been adopted by many organisations for business solution and decision making. From a participant's perspective, it is interesting to explore what motivates people to participate in crowdsourcing contest. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the category of motivation based on self-determination theory and synthesises various motivation factors in crowdsourcing contest. Meanwhile, perceived motivational affordances and task granularity are also examined as the moderate constructs. Design/methodology/approach – The paper builds a conceptual model to illustrate the relationships between various motivations (extrinsic and intrinsic) and participation effort under the moderating of perceived motivational affordances and task granularity. An empirical study is conducted to test the research model by surveying the Chinese participants of crowdsourcing contest. Findings – The results show that various motivations might play different roles in relating to participation effort expended in the crowdsourcing contest. Moreover, task granularity may positively moderate the relationship between external motivation and participation effort. The results also show that supporting of a participant's perceived motivational affordances might strengthen the relationship between the individual's motivation with an internal focus (intrinsic, integrated, identified and introjected motivation) and participation effort. Originality/value – Overall, the research has some conceptual and theoretical implications to the literature. This study synthesises various motivation factors identified by previous studies in crowdsourcing projects or communities as a form of motivation spectrum, namely external, introjected, identified, integrated and intrinsic motivation, which contributes to the motivation literatures. Meanwhile, the findings indicate that various motivations might play different roles in relating to participation effort expended in the crowdsourcing contest. Also, the study theoretically extends the crowdsourcing participation research to incorporate the effects of perceived motivational affordances in crowdsourcing contest. In addition, the study may yield some practical implications for sponsors, managers and designers in crowdsourcing contest.

Abstract:
We used a quasi-experimental research design to study the extent of motivational crowding in a recent sustainable development intervention in northern India. The project provided participants with both private and communal material benefits to enhance their incomes, and environmental and social information to inculcate pro-environmental motivations. We compared changes in reported motivations of participants for conserving forest resources, before and after project implementation, with changes in reported motivations of matched nonparticipants. We found that villagers who received private economic benefits were more likely to change from an environmental to an economic motivation for forest protection, whereas those who engaged in communal activities related to the project were less likely to change from an environmental to an economic motivation. These results, which indicate a substantial but conditional degree of motivational crowding, clarify the relationships between institutional change, incentives, and motivations and have important implications for the design of sustainable development interventions.

Abstract:
While the study of perpetrators has benefited greatly from burgeoning work on motivations for participating in genocidal violence, there is a considerable gap regarding how these motivations change over time. This article draws on psychological theories to provide an approach to understanding such motivational change. In the interaction of situational and dispositional approaches, the article proposes that motivations derive from and are structured by hierarchies of needs and that these hierarchies can change through three processes of adaption within the hierarchy: motivation addition, motivation removal and hierarchy re-ordering. The article is primarily conceptual but draws on insights from various different cases in its development and illustrates the model with empirical examples of motivations for participating in genocidal violence.

Abstract:
Abstract:

Abstract:
Using a qualitative research and semi-structured interviews this study aims to describe what motivates green buying behaviour. During the last few decades consumers have increasingly started to adopt a more environmentally friendly and sustainable buying bahaviour. Consumers buying behaviour was previously based on cultural, social, personal and psychological factors, but recently it has changed, there is now a demand for products and services that not only satisfy the customer's immediate needs, but also has a positive impact on the environment. There is no consensus in the current situation around what motivates environmentally friendly purchasing behavior, previous research highlights factors such as price and quality, emotion, culture and morality. Other research claims that functionality, social factors, temporary factors and knowledge motivates environmentally friendly purchasing behavior, which in turn justifies further studies on the subject. This study shows that the price of an environmentally friendly product is more elastic and consumers are prepared to pay more for an environmentally friendly product. Consumers' willingness to pay more are rooted in an expectation of a higher quality and a desire to protect the environment. Emotions are a big motivation behind eco-friendly purchases and bottoms in either pride and guilt or a combination of the two. This study also proves that knowledge of why a product is environmentally friendly is a key factor as to why people consume environmentally friendly.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Dessa är Passive och Extrinsic, Pro-Bullying ochAmotivation, Passive och kön, Defending och Extrinsic samt mellan Defending och kön.<br>Previous research has shown that children can be divided into different roles during situations ofbullying in primary school. Therefore, it is of interest to find factors that affect what those roles couldbe. In this thesis, the purpose is to analyze the relation between motivation (Extrinsic, Amotivation,Identification) and behavior (Defending, Passive, Pro-Bullying). It is also of interest to analyzepossible differences in behavior depending on age and gender. To be able to analyze relationsbetween psychological concepts, latent variables will be used in conjunction with models for factoranalysis (SEM). This type of model does not take differences between classes into consideration, therefore multilevel models will also be used, where the latter takes differences between classes intoconsideration but not the fact that the variables are latent. Another aspect of this thesis will be to compare the methods to each other and analyze potentialdifferences in drawn conclusions. There will be two different types of multilevel models, one ofwhich uses mean as the estimator for the latent variable while the other model will be using factorscores that are calculated with a confirmative factor analysis. Results showed that there are significant relations between all types of behavior and motivations inat least one of the methods used. In all the methods, there were significant positive relationsbetween Passive and Amotivation, Defending and Identification, as well as Pro-Bullying and Extrinsic. Relations that had a significant negative association were Passive and Identification, Pro-Bullying andIdentification, as well as Defending and Amotivation. Relations that were significant, but only in one method, are the following: Pro-Bullying andAmotivation, Passive and Extrinsic, Defending and Extrinsic. These have a positive relation. There is no relation between gender, or age, and a specific behavior that was significant in all themethods used. Relation between behavior and age, or gender, that was significant in at least one, isPassive and gender, Defending and gender, Defending and age. The results from this show that boysare less passive and more defending compared to girls. The relation between Defending and age isnegative. The intraclass correlation, and Likelihood ratio test, shows that there is a significant variancebetween classes in the three behaviors when a model without explanatory variables is being used. The tests also indicated that there was no significant variance in behavior between schools. ALikelihood ratio test of models with explanatory variables show that the only type of behavior with asignificant difference between students and classes is Defending. The difference between factor scores and mean was very small, there were only differences in therelation between Defending and age. Between SEM and Multilevel, the difference is greater, wherethere are differences in conclusion in five of the relations; Passive and extrinsic, Pro-Bullying andAmotivation, Passive and gender, Defending and Extrinsic, as well as Defending and gender.

Abstract:
The subject of this study is about Electronic word-of-mouth and the purpose is to find out what’s motivating customer to write Electronic word-of-mouth and what connections customers believes the motivation has to customer commitment, customer satisfaction and customer loyalty. The method used in this study is qualitative semi-structured interviews and a system called Dialogue- Hermeneutic Method, DHM, which is a kind of mindmap-system used to structure the respondent’s subjective theory. There were six interviews made for this study where the point was for the respondents to analyse themselves and their use of Electronic word-of-mouth. After the interview the respondents painted their subjective theory on a paper and showed how they thought the process to be, this method is called DHM. The material of scientific articles used in this study has been peer- reviewed but the articles those not discuss the exact angle used in this study, because this angle seems to be new on the field. The result showed that the majority of the respondents are mostly motivated to write Electronic word-of-mouth when they are very satisfied or very disgruntled and the motivations who was the most important was to spread information, self-efficacy, moral obligation, altruism and obligation to the company. The connection between Electronic word-of-mouth, motivation, customer commitment, customer satisfaction and customer loyalty are more visible without loyalty, because loyalty to the company isn’t necessary for the customer to engage. It is a bigger chance that a customer gets motivated by writing a eWOM when the customer is satisfied with a product rather than the customer gets motivated by being loyal to the company. The foundation that leads to motivation and engagement is satisfaction and loyalty but satisfaction has a stronger foundation.

Abstract:
Motivations, Attitudes and Modern Languages. A study of students’ motivational processes and attitudes while learning foreign languages. This doctoral thesis investigates students’ motivational processes and attitudes while studying and learning foreign languages (FLs). Students were asked about their choice of FL, and what had motivated them during their many years of studies. The study analyzes open-ended questionnaires and interviews with 43 students enrolled in the last year of foreign language studies in two schools, limiting its focus to the three most commonly studied FLs – French, German and Spanish. The theoretical framework of the thesis draws on sociocognitive theory (Bandura 1997; Linnenbrink &amp; Pintrich 2002). Several informants refer to motivation in terms that could be related to intrinsic motivation. They have chosen to continue studying their particular target language due to an emotional state which could be related to enjoyment, pleasure and curiosity (Deci &amp; Ryan 1985). Another salient feature is the frequent reference to mastery goals. Many of the informants express a motivation directed towards mastery and growth, or a main goal to be fluent or communicatively competent in their target language. Several informants also underline the motivational importance of experiencing competence, success and development. They become motivated by experiencing self-efficacy (Bandura 1997). This self-efficacy is rooted in experience of success, but also in being encouraged by significant others or role models, i.e. family members and friends. Despite a frequent awareness of the weakening general interest for FL, most students have a supportive network. Likewise, family and friends play a crucial role for many informants while choosing their target language initially. This key factor interacts with other important factors, such as the experiences of visiting countries or settings where the target language is used. In this context, target language attitudes tend to be important when choosing language and pursuing studies.

Abstract:
This paper is an inventory of the general motivations of Swedish film tourists. The paper is based on a quantitative research survey to gain insight from Swedish film tourists in the matter of what it is in movies that are motivating them to travel. The motivations behind film tourists visiting film destinations in a qualitative perspective, are storytelling, authenticity, film tourists gaze and fandom. By travelling to film destinations tourists takes part of magical tourism experiences. The paper has a deductive view point to the subject of film tourists and the results from the survey are collected from communities on Facebook called Harry Potter-fans in Sweden, Star Wars Sweden and The lord of the ring-fans in Sweden. The result from the survey shows that Swedish film tourists from these communities are motivated by the terms of storytelling, authenticity, film tourists gaze and fandom and that they are all experiencing something extraordinary when they travel because of movies. The motivations are also the foundation and the general aspect of travelling to film destinations, which either push or pull the film tourists towards the film destinations.

Abstract:
Tourism is the biggest and fastest growing economic sector in the world. China Outbound Tourism Development claims that the world can count on up to 54 million Chinese tourists who travel during this year, 2010. It is estimated that approximately 6, 68 billion dollars will be spent during the travels. </p><p>The authors of this thesis have conducted a study of Chinese tourists' travel motives and decisions to travel to Sweden. The mission was to find out why Chinese choose to travel to Sweden, and what it is that attracts those to choose a country far away from China. The thesis was based on qualitative interviews, and the interviews were carried out by semi-structured questions. The interviews were conducted in Chinese, which then was translated into Swedish by the authors. In order to receive a response the authors of the essay chose to conduct interviews with Chinese tourists at various attractive places in Stockholm, including the City Hall, Old Town, and the Vasa Museum. </p><p>The readers will in the empirical part be able to read about what respondents felt about Sweden and what their reason was for travel, and if they have plans to visit Sweden again. Based on the analysis that is done, the authors’ note that it is important to be constantly updated about what is in demand at the market.  It is also very important to offer what is desired in order to become a preferred destination to visit. The results of the study led to several conclusions. From the interviews and the responses the authors could create a pattern, creating an understanding of why visitors choose to come to Sweden, how their perceptions differ before starting the journey and after the voyage. The key is to know what visitors are looking for, and what they may want to visit at a specific location, and then hopefully do a return visit to the destination.</p>

Abstract:
Health economics literature has demonstrated that physician motivation is related with three reasons—extrinsic motivation, intrinsic motivation, and prosocial motivation—and that this motivational structure is influenced by the type of organization in which they work. Yet this research proves insufficient to identify the origin of the physician's psychological motivations. To shed light on this gap, this chapter aims to outline a neuroimaging methodology which would prove useful to identify the neurocognitive motivational structures of hospital physicians with the proposes the design of several intrasubject laboratory experiments, using the functional neuroimaging technique magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Identifying the neuronal origin of doctors' motivational framework belonging to private or public health organizations would be a step forward in defining the most appropriate motivational plan for a medical profile working in different hospital environments.

Abstract:
Motivation is a paramount factor to student success. Although it is well known that the learner’s motivation and emotional state in educational contexts are very important, they have not been fully addressed in intelligent tutoring systems (ITS). In this paper, a method for integrated motivation diagnosis and motivational planning is described in a manner applied to an operable system. For the motivational diagnosis rules, three different channels of data (performance from interaction with the system, verbal communication, and feedbacks) are combined. For the motivational planning rules, four different strategies (different learning process, helps, different teaching strategies, and arousal questions or feedbacks) are combined. By applying the mechanisms, a tutoring system for the topic of perspective projection with motivation diagnosis and motivational planning on a multiagent system with fuzzy logic has been implemented.

Abstract:
Following the successful adoption of the open source model in the software realm, open source is becoming a new design paradigm in hardware development. Open source models for tangible products are still in its infancy, and many studies are required to demonstrate its application to for-profit product development. It is an alluring question why entrepreneurs decide to use an open model to develop their products under risks and unknowns, such as infringement and community management. The goal of this paper is to investigate the motivations of entrepreneurs of open source hardware companies. The leaders and founders of twenty-three companies were interviewed to understand their motivation and experiences in creating a company based on open source hardware. Based on these interviews, we generated a hierarchical framework to explain these motivations, where each level of the framework has been defined, explained and illustrated with representative quotes. The motivations of open source action are framed by two categories in the paper: 1) Intrinsic Motivation, which describes the motivations of an entrepreneur as an individual, who needs personal satisfaction, enjoyment as well as altruism and reciprocity; 2) Extrinsic Motivation, which describes motivations of an entrepreneur whose identity is as a for-profit company leader.

Abstract:
Abstract To develop competence through e-learning tools, students must be motivated to use these tools. Hence, we conducted two empirical studies to explore the motivating potential of an adaptive video role playing game (AVR) for training communication competencies. In Study 1 (N = 54), we used a within-person design to examine students’ motivation in three learning conditions: in the classroom, when playing the AVR, and when doing homework. The results showed that, relative to the homework condition, in the AVR condition students were higher in perceived competence, relatedness, intrinsic motivation, and flow. No difference between the classroom condition and the AVR condition were found. In Study 2 (N = 150), we used a randomized experimental design to examine the motivational consequences of using videos (AVR) rather than photos (APR) in the adaptive role playing game. We found that, relative to students in the APR condition, students in the AVR condition were higher in relatedness and flow. No differences in perceived competence, autonomy, and intrinsic motivation were observed. We conclude that an AVR may have considerable motivational benefits relative to common homework assignments, and some motivational benefits relative to an APR. Abstract:
The ultimate goal of most design projects or endeavors should be to create a product with high quality as it typically leads to higher customer satisfaction and brand retention. Product design teams are usually comprised of a group of engineers with varying backgrounds, personalities, and motivational drives. This paper presents an initial study on how motivation of individuals affects the quality of their resulting designs. The ultimate goal of this research is to identify factors — such as motivational factors — that may prove useful to forming the most effective design teams. Initial data for this study stems from a senior level capstone design course in a mechanical engineering program and takes the form of a design quality assessment; and one survey instrument that assesses the 6 distinguishing qualities of serious leisure, and in particular, its motivations and benefits. Design quality is measured by a group of engineering faculty and industry representatives utilizing a proposed design quality rubric which scrutinizes factors such as customer satisfaction, manufacturability, and product fit and finish. Motivational factors are measured using the Serious Leisure Inventory and Measure (SLIM) short form, a 9-point Likert style questionnaire. The goal of this research is to identify teaming strategies such that a group of designers will achieve the level of design quality desired of a specific product or project. Findings in this study indicate that teams, comprised of individuals largely motivated toward design-focused leisure, or conversely demotivated by personal aspects, tend to realize better design quality outcomes.

Abstract:
Gamification, i.e. the integration of game design elements into a non-gaming environment, aims to increase users’ engagement and motivation to achieve their goals regarding a given task. It is placed at the border between formal and informal learning approaches. Motivational difficulties are well known in educational settings, especially in Computer Science, where strict formal content meets very playful computer gamers. Hence, we followed the approach of gamification to raise the motivation of learners in the field of Business Process Management (BPM) lifecycle. We developed a board rallye game, based on 16 game design elements. The core of the rallye game is to convey knowledge in a playful way. In order to be able to determine the effects of the rallye game on several aspects, e.g. knowledge transfer and (learning) motivation, we carried out field experiments with 57 students at the Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt and at the Hochschule Augsburg. In this paper the perspective of self-determination theory (SDT), that has found general acceptance in motivational research, is used to understand and analyze the motivational power of gamification.
