Motor current signature analysis (MCSA) has been an effective method to monitor electrical machines for many years, predominantly because of its low instrumentation cost, remote implementation and comprehensive information contents. However, it has shortages of low accuracy and efficiency in resolving weak signals from incipient faults, such as detecting early stages of induction motor fault. In this thesis MCSA has been improved to accurately detect electrical and mechanical faults in the induction motor namely broken rotor bars, stator faults and motor bearing faults. The fault provokes amplitude or phase modulation of the fundamental current component. The system measures the vibration signals by using the wireless sensor node mounted on the motor. A sensorless speed estimation algorithm is developed to find out the mechanical rotary frequency of adjustable-speed motor. Moreover, the principal component analysis is used to intercept the fault characteristics. Finally, the system adopts the dynamic structure neural network to establish the diagnosis functionality. The new system incorporates the hybrid discriminant analysis and the dynamic structure neural network to increase the accuracy of fault diagnosis. Traditional motor fault diagnosis system only focuses on the fixed rotary speed measurement. When the motor speed changes, the system requires a tachometer to measure the proper rotary frequency. abstract: This thesis presents a new technique to develop an air-conditioner (A/C) compressor single phase induction motor model for use in an electro-magnetic transient program (EMTP) simulation tool. The method developed also has the capability to represent multiple units of the component in a specific three-phase distribution feeder and investigate the phenomenon of fault-induced delayed voltage recovery (FIDVR) and the cause of motor stalling. The system of differential equations representing the single phase induction motor model is developed and formulated. Implicit backward Euler method

Modeling, fault assessment, and diagnostics of rolling element bearings and induction motors were studied. Dynamic model of rolling element bearings with faults were developed using vector bond graphs. The model incorporates gyroscopic and centrifugal effects, contact deflections and forces, contact slip and separations, and localized faults. Dents and pits on inner race, outer race and balls were modeled through surface profile changes. Experiments with healthy and faulty bearings validated the model. Bearing load zones under various radial loads and clearances were simulated. The model was u

Firstly, the faults are classified into three major categories, rotor core damage, bearing and electrical damages. Furthermore they are subdivided into ten classifications, they are rotor imbalance, curved rotor shaft, non-centralized, loose of rotor copper bar, damage of bearing inner ring, damage of bearing outer ring, balls damage, uneven gas gap, broken copper b

This thesis studies step motors and wheel motors, and the current signals and vibration signals in these motors are analyzed to detect the bearing fault. Since bearing faults can be diagnosed quickly, the EV’s operation could be more stable. This thesis proposes a system to detect the bearing fault. In this thesis first the behavior of induction generators under unbalanced voltage conditions is studied. In this context, first the existing schemes for characterizing the unbalance in simple ways have been studied. The two schemes IEC, NEMA which are in use to quantify the unbalance, as an unbalance factor require the use of complex algebra. A new scheme to characterize voltage unbalance, without using any complex algebra has been proposed and its effectiveness is compared with the NEMA scheme. The performance of the induction generators under unbalanced voltage conditions is first studied u
