Abstract:
The paper has investigated the effects of ramming on the mould properties of Yola natural sand. The work considered the variation of the number of rams with green compression strength, dry compression strength, green permeability and bulk density. The results showed that as the number of rams increase, the green compression also increases attaining the highest strength of 186.17kPa as the number of rams reached 6 rams. The dry compression strength also increased with the number of rams. The green permeability however started increasing but dropped after the fourth blow. This drop is normal; af

This paper reports the influence of solidification rate and stress-relief annealing on the mechanical properties of cast 6063 Aluminium alloy (Al6063). Ingots of Al6063 were melted and then cast using sand and metal moulds. Some of the cast samples were heat treated and then cooled in natural air. Tensile test, hardness test, impact test and microstructural analysis were carried out on the samples. The results show substantial changes in the mechanical properties of the specimens. The ultimate tensile strength, yield strength and hardness percentage elongation of cast Al6063 increases with the

Abstract:
Expansive soils like clays undergo swelling that can both be detrimental and acceptable in different applications. In the Northern part of India, especially Delhi region, natural soils containing clays & clayey sands support most of the buildings. Mechanically stabilized clays mixed with sand are used for local earthwork construction such as roads and landfills. Exact understanding of the swelling behaviour of such soils is a pre-requisite before the start of any construction projects. In this paper the swelling behaviour of clayey soil reinforced with geocell & Jute fibres has been pr

The use of expanded clay aggregate (ECA) for developing lightweight concrete results in strength-reduction properties. However, the ECA-based concrete strength properties can be improved by adding steel fibre (SF), glass fibre mesh (GFM) and multi-walled nano-carbon tubes (MWCNT). The combined effect of MWCNT, GFM, SF and ECA-based concrete and its strength properties is still unexplored. It is worth drawing a logical conclusion concerning the impact on the strength of concrete by incorporating the materials mentioned above. Two-stage expanded clay aggregate fibrous concrete (TECAFC) is a new

Abstract: Concrete can be defined as a building material that can be composed by mixing gravel or broken stone, sand, cement, and water. The mixture can be poured into any shape, size of mould, which on hardening gives a solid stone like mass, the strength of hardened solid mass can be increased by adding admixtures. The main aim of the admixtures is to enhance the properties to some extend of the desired solid mass. In common man language concrete can be defined as mixture of paste and aggregates. The partial replacement of aggregates is need for the future generation of concrete structures f

Abstract Suitability of the given binding agent for the moulding sands preparation depends on the one hand on the estimation of technological properties of the sand and the mould made of it and the obtained casting quality and on the other hand on the assessment of this sand influence on the natural and working environment. Out of moulding sands used in the foundry industry, sands with organic binders deserve a special attention. These binders are based on synthetic resins, which ensure obtaining the proper technological properties and sound castings, however, they negatively influence the env
