Abstract:
Birds usually moult their feathers in a particular sequence which may incur aerodynamic, physiological and behavioural implications. Among birds, hummingbirds are unique species in their sustained hovering flight. Because hummingbirds frequently hover-feed, they must maintain sufficiently high flight capacities even when moulting their flight feathers. A hummingbird wing consists of 10 primary flight feathers whose absence during moult may strongly affect wing performance. Using dynamic similarity rules, we compared time-accurate aerodynamic loads and flow field measurements over several wing

A casual observer may very well consider America’s dwellings in the period after independence as being homogeneous in character. A log cabin was a log cabin, after all, and Mount Vernon and Monticello, owned by famous leaders, were, rather, the exceptions that somehow prove the rule, or at least provide evidence that there was a second economic class consisting of only a few cases. The idea of a continuous distribution of housing values, from hovels to mansions, seems absent from a common perception of living conditions in the United States in its early, formative, years. The diverse hummingbird family (Trochilidae) has unique adaptations for nectarivory, among which is the ability to sustain hover-feeding. As hummingbirds mainly feed while hovering, it is crucial to maintain this ability throughout the annual cycle—especially during flight-feather moult, in which wing area is reduced. To quantify the aerodynamic characteristics and flow mechanisms of a hummingbird wing throughout the annual cycle, time-accurate aerodynamic loads and flow field measurements were correlated over a dynamically scaled wing model of Anna’s hummingbird ( Calypte anna ). Abstract The success of the MV-22 Osprey has created the opportunity for a new design of gunship, tailored to the task of escorting it, an opportunity identified by many. Existing and emerging rotorcraft technology does not appear to have the complete capability, so this centre-line tiltrotor approach is aimed specifically at the escort duty. The mission is taken to be escorting the MV-22 throughout a land assault (Marine Corps), to provide cover while the MV-22 is on the ground at the landing zone, and to still have useful capacity for diversions. To meet this task this Escort concept stays w

Abstract:
The approximate age of Planet Earth is around 4.54 billion years. This age of the earth has been determined from isotopic dating of the rock samples from the earth’s crust as well as from the soils and rocks of the moon and meteorites. Dating methods e.g., Rubidium (87R) – Strontium (87Sr) and Uranium (238U, 235U, 232U) – Lead (206Pb, 207Pb, 208Pb) are widely used for dating of the rocks pertaining to deep time. Succeeding the birth of planet earth, the origin of first life on the earth is one of the greatest enigmas. There have been a number of questions that have been asked on this issue but

The article discusses the historical geography of the river Prut (967 km). In the ancient period it was known as the Pyretus, Porata, or Prout. The river originates on the eastern slope of Mount Hoverla (2 068 m), in the Carpathian Mountains in Ukraine. The Prut flows to the southeast, eventually joining the Danube near Giurgiuleşti, east of Galați. The Prut currently divides three countries: Romania, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. At present, it constitutes the border between Romania and Moldova, with a total length of 695 km. It has a hydrographic basin totaling 27 540 km2 , of which 1
