Abstract:
Paul McCartney's Give my Regards to Broad Street opened in New York City (and in 319 cinemas across the USA) on 26 October 1984, following the most intense publicity campaign that the McCartneys and 20th-Century Fox could mount. Apart from a wave of magazine interviews with Linda and Paul, a new video, No More Lonely Nights gave a cute synopsis, and the song itself was released as a single; a soundtrack album was produced and McCartney's own company, MPL Communications, put out a songbook including music and pictures from the film plus a forty-eight page screenplay (McCartney 1984). Despite all this, and an $8,000,000 investment by Fox the movie quickly sank like a stone and was withdrawn from distribution after a couple of weeks. Most people have never seen Give my Regards to Broad Street.

Abstract:
Mount Pleasant, a neighbourhood of Washington, DC that has experienced several decades of residential gentrification (Gale, 1980; Modan, 2007; Williams, 1988), nonetheless possesses a commercial corridor where local stores far outnumber boutique retail and corporate chain outlets. Its situation challenges a critical strain within the commercial gentrification literature that emphasises the likelihood of retail displacement during the gentrification process and characterises gentrifier consumers as primarily interested in retail outlets that are familiar or carefully designed to suit their taste. This study investigates gentrifiers’ consumption practices in Mount Pleasant to ascertain how they differ from those of peers in neighbourhoods where gentrification has followed a more typical trajectory. Using theories of distinction (Bourdieu, 1984) and social preservation (Brown-Saracino, 2009), I argue that many local gentrifiers, contradictorily, seek to accrue cultural capital by consuming ‘authentic’ local culture and products while paying attention to the costs of turnover and displacement.

The streets are designed for explicit spaces where vehicles can circulate in complete safety. Not with upright, to specific areas, for example, keeping an eye on and automated level intersections, sharp curves, cluttered or prone to accidents, Increased speed control could be important in ensuring well-being. This has been achieved in various ways, for example, the mandatory posting of speed limit signs, the use of fire signals to alarm conductors, and streetscapes. In particular circumstances, barriers are needed, but their use on the streets is not considered an acceptable design practice. As a result, the normal speed circuit breakers do not meet the need, but they interfere with the vehicle and in a few cases have resulted in serious and transient injuries. Signage may also distract the driver and take his or her attention off the street. Be that as it may, the lack of light or above the upper light makes it difficult to perceive the speed breaker ahead. This report deals with the technique of distinguishing mounds and potholes and provides ideal precautions for drivers to stay away from accidents or vehicles harms. An image preparation frame is used to differentiate the mount.

Abstract The Bali Province Government plans the development of Bali Cultural Centre as a comprehensive cultural information centre to support the development of Culture-oriented Bali Tourism. The Bali Cultural Centre site is situated in an area of post-mining remnants in Klungkung Regency. The sites located at coordinates 8°32‘41.35” - 8°34‘30.94” South Latitude and 115°24‘54.92” - 115°26‘6.99” East Longitude. This site is also portion of estuary area of the Unda River which has a high potential for the danger of cold lava flood from the Mount Agung eruption. The structure to manage cold lava floods at the Unda River estuary is being conducted. The construction is divided into two locations which design to satisfactory a 50-year design flood with discharge of 1436.11 m3 per second. The first location is at upstream (north side of Prof. Ida Bagus Mantra Street) using a single rectangular cross section. The second location is at downstream (south area of Prof. Ida Bagus Mantra Street) using a combine double rectangular cross section. These two types of cross sections are designed to accommodate the capacity of water discharge under normal conditions and still able to drain water discharge in the 50-year return period. The presence of this channel allows the cold lava flood flow directly towards the sea-shore and so as to reduce the risk. It is possible that the sediments settle at the base of the channel, therefore, channel shape normalization and periodic dredging for maintenance are essential.

Abstract:
Rattling around on a cold, damp Edinburgh street, a plastic water bottle is a stark reminder of one of the greatest environmental crises facing our planet. In little under 100 years a growing tsunami of plastic waste has contaminated not just our streets but nearly every corner of the natural world – from Mount Everest to the deepest oceans. But this plastic bottle provided the inspiration that could yet turn the tide. Diverted from landfill to the laboratory the bottle soon grabbed the attention of the world’s media by undergoing a remarkable transformation from plastic into vanillin – the main component of vanilla and one of the most in-demand spices in the world. This seemingly impossible act of alchemy was made possible by harnessing the metabolic power of bacteria. Its success has enormous implications. Not only could it meet our insatiable appetite for this rare flavouring, but it could radically change the way we tackle another addiction – the endless stream of single-use and disposable plastics that have become part of everyday life. Yet this only scratches the surface of the potential of this approach. By coaxing microbes to behave as eco-friendly factories that produce useful materials, we could tackle many other global challenges.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTThe issue of black youth unemployment has become a central aspect of government race relations policies over the last few years, particularly in the aftermath of the 1981 street disturbances. This paper attempts to locate the various stages of response to this question, both at the level of ideology and of policy. It argues that although the policies pursued have been legitimized as helping young blacks, they have failed to mount an effective response to the employment crisis facing this group. In addition, it is argued that policies have tended to ignore the question of racism and to concentrate on the supposed cultural and personal handicaps which young blacks inherit from their cultural background. It concludes by questioning the ideology of equal opportunity, which is the core concept underlying government responses to racial discrimination, and argues for a more critical analysis of recent interventions premised on this notion.

The Southern Bida basin consists of the Lokoja, Patti, and Agbaja formations. This study focuses on the Lokoja formation and samples gotten were used for petrography and heavy mineral analysis. Results of all analytical techniques employed in the study are presented here. A critical assessment of each set of results and their integration aided the proper interpretation and useful discussion. This study focuses on the Southern Bida Basin, specifically the Lokoja Formation because the exposures of Patti are poorly exposed. Outcrop samples were obtained from the exposed sections of the study area in Kabawa and Robinson street respectively. Different features were observed, such as the thickness of the exposure, the nature of the lithology, color, and sedimentary structures. The dominant lithologies in the area include sandstone and ironstone. The sandy facies are generally arkosic characterized by poorly sorted very fine to conglomeratic sandstone sequence. Laboratory investigations of samples included petrography and heavy mineral analysis. Sandstone samples were collected from the study area. Each sample was divided into two parts: the first part for petrographic studies and the second part for heavy mineral analysis.

Abstract:
The objective of the study was to examine the microbial quality of street-vended foods in Sibasa and Thohoyandou markets of Thulamela Municipality, South Africa. Gravy, salad, beef and chicken stews were randomly sampled from seven markets. Microbiological international standard methods were used for the Total plate counts, coliform bacteria, Salmonella spp., Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, yeast and mould counts. The microbial counts (log10 CFU/g) of foods sold at Thohoyandou ranged from 2.0±2.08 to too numerous to count for Total plate count, 2.0±1.00 to 6.6±7.57 for Salmonella spp., 2.0±2.64 to 3.9±6.03 for S. aureus, 2.3±1.73 to too numerous to count for yeast. At Sibasa, microbial counts (log10 CFU/g) ranged from 2.1±6.24 to 6.9±5.30 for total plate count, 2.0±0.00 to 3.8±10.00 for coliform bacteria, 2.0±2.64 to 4.7±8.33 for Salmonella spp., 2.0±6.03 to 3.9±9.30, for S. aureus, 2.1±1.00 to 3.7±39.58 for yeast and 2.0±1.15 to 4.9±21.66 for B. cereus. Mould was not detected in all the foods sold at both locations. The total plate count was significantly different (P<0.05) between salads and chicken stews. For Salmonella spp., significant differences (P<0.05) were observed between salads and beef stews. For S. aureus, a significant difference was found in salads (P<0.05). For yeast, significant differences (P<0.05) were observed between salads and beef stews. The fact that most street-vended foods were contaminated with a range of microorganisms is a matter of public concern. Department of Health, South Africa should initiate a food safety program for the vendors to be trained in hygienic preparation of foods and good sanitation practices to better safeguard the health and wellness of consumers. There is also a need for Environmental Health Practitioners to mount a better monitoring system that would contain selling street-vended food that is unfit for human consumption.

Abstract:
The architect John Sidney Swan (1874-1936) represents a little represented group in the history of New Zealand architecture. At the establishment of the New Zealand Institute of Architects in 1905, Swan was one of few architects present, along with William Gray Young (1895-1962), who had been trained in New Zealand through the article system. While training "on the job" was a common occurrence in the early development of the building industry in this country, few of these architects achieved great renown. Swan however, was a prominent architect in his day, designing Erskine Chapel in Island Bay (1906), Saint Gerard's Church in Mount Victoria (1908) and an unbuilt proposal for a Roman Catholic Basilica in Dufferin Street (1912). This renown may have been due to Swan's mentor, Fredrick de Jersey Clere, the vocal English émigré architect. However, this mentorship does not wholly explain Swan's prolific, and sometimes eccentric practice. This paper is part of an ongoing project to document Swan's work, and develop an understanding of his particular style, which, on the one hand, reflects an awareness of the contemporary English fashions, and yet, on the other, rejoices in an almost theatrical excessiveness, quite contrary both to the evolving architectural austerity of modernism, and Clere's more restrained style.

Full text
Abstract:
The article studies the translation of The Ladder of Divine Ascent by John Climacus with the aim to name historical evidence and facts about the life in Eastern monasticism of the 6th-7th centuries, described in this work of literature. The author uses the term “sacred space” to define the residences of Egyptian monks described by John Climacus. In total, The Ladder names four Christian monasteries (St. Catherine’s Monastery of Sinai, the Raifa Monastery, the Lavra of St. Savva the Sanctified, and the Tavennisi Monastery), Scetis, five places of monastic seclusion near St. Catherine’s Monastery of Sinai (Fola, Siddin, Arsilaia, and two unnamed places: the residence of St. Stephen on Mount Sinai and the residence of Isychii on Mount Khoriv). The names of three monasteries included in the “sacred space” are not given, though The Ladder contains vivid pictures of the life there. These are: 1) a monastery in Asia, where St. Acacius of Sinai lived; 2) a monastery in Pontus, where St. John the Silent lived; 3) a monastery near Alexandria, which plays the key role in the “sacred space” of The Ladder. This monastery owned a lavra and a metochion, used a prison. The name of the hegumen of this monastery is also unknown, though The Ladder presents him as an ideal collective vision of a senior priest: a sheperd, father, teacher, judge, doctor, helmsman, and artist. The symbolic key to understanding The Ladder is the Parable about the Good Shepherd and the Mercenary. The traits of a “good shepherd” The Ladder are epitomized by an anonymous hegumen of an anonymous monastery. Concealing the name of the hegumen, John Climacus names the monks who lived in this monastery (Isidore, Lawrence, Avvakir, Macedonian, Mina). In total, there were 330 monks, besides those were in the lavra or metochion. John Climacus privides a vibrant description of the life in this monastery, which he observed for two month, paying special attention to the description of the monastery prison. The monks voluntarily doom themselves to suffering in the prison, with their torments making the deepest impression on the medieval reader. These images can be found in various types of fine arts, in Byzantine hymnography and in other literary monuments, for example, in the “Testament” of the Kiev Metropolitan Constantine I, who ordered not to bury his body after death, but to drag it out to the wasteland and leave it to be torn apart by the street dogs. The question remains why the name of a huge monastery near Alexandria, whose hegumen enjoyed undoubted spiritual authority, has not been mentioned in The Ladder. Probably, the monastery was the spiritual center of Monothelitism, so that it was cursed and deleted from all sources, including The Ladder. The author declares no conflicts of interests.

Abstract:
Noah a.s is the Apostle who was first sent by Allah SWT to his people who have deviated from the religion of nature (Islam). He conveyed his da'wah to his people for 950 years, in conveying da'wah a very tough challenge, because they scolded, denied, caught and beat him until Noah a.s helpless then throw him in the street. But Allah Almighty returns strength to him. Thus with his faith and passionate spirit, he returns to his task of preaching back and giving advice and telling them to abandon idolatry, by returning to worship Allah Almighty who can bring benefits and can distress kemudharatan. But they still reject it and deny it, insult and revile it. Thus he surrendered all to Allah (swt) by praying to Him to destroy them so that there would be a generation who believed and obeyed His commands. Then Allah SWT told Noah a.s to make a ship (the ark) as a savior himself with those who believe. After the boat is finished, God radiates water from all corners of the earth, bringing in a powerful cyclone and bringing down rain from the sky for 40 days and 40 nights. Thus the entire surface of the earth is flooded. All the inhabitants of the earth are destroyed, the only survivors Noah a.s and those who believe with him in the ship. After the great flood ended Noah a.s with his adherents landed on Mount Juudi Mousul Iraq. They descend from the ship on the day of 'Ashura or ten Muharram. Then Noah a.s fasted on that day as a sign of his gratitude for his salvation from the great disaster. Then he lived after the cyclone for 350 years. According to the story in the Torah that the age of Noah a.s reached 1350 years. Meanwhile, according to the Qur'an only describes his da'wah with his people for 950 years. As for his definite age God is surely the All-Knowing God. When he died he was buried near the Grand Mosque of Makkah.

AbstractArchaeological excavations at the site of Xochicalco, Morelos, have explored several elements of public architecture important for clarifying aspects of urban organization and civic life during the Epiclassic period. Excavations confirm the presence of a ditch and terrace defensive system, strategic control of access leading into the site, and the presence of walled streets entering the site and extending throughout the city. The urban design also included systems for surface drainage that were linked to street networks. A section of the drainage system was constructed as a subterranean sewer using corbeled arch construction where it passed beneath a large platform mound. Analysis of the materials recovered from buildings throughout these excavations also provide the basis for identifying domestic activities and differentiating between residential and nonresidential structures.

Abstract:
The tsunami of Sunda Strait occurred on December 22, 2018, at 21:03 West Indonesia Time (zone). An eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau caused an eruption that triggered a landslide on the slopes of Mount Anak Krakatau covering an area of 64 hectares that hit the coastal area of western Banten and southern Lampung and resulted in 437 deaths, 14.059 people were injured, and 33.721 people were displaced. Before the tsunami, signal transmissions (gaps) at the Lava seismograph station installed on the body of Mount Anak Krakatau experienced broken so that Mount Anak Krakatau Observation Post could not record volcanic earthquake signals since December 22, 2018, at 21.03 West Indonesia Time (zone). Given these facts, proper monitoring and analysis were required to monitor and analyze the source of ground vibrations originating from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau. Therefore, this study aims to confirm the eruptive activity of Mount Anak Krakatau based on seismic monitoring and analysis sourced from the BMKG's seismic sensor network. The method the author uses is by monitoring the seismic signal recorded by the seismometer and analyzing the seismic signal using the Seiscomp3 software. By the results of monitoring and analysis of seismic data, it was found that the location of the center of the ground shaking was on Mount Anak Krakatau with a magnitude of 3.4, and a depth of 1 km. To anticipate similar tsunami events in the future, it is very necessary to have a tsunami early warning system originating from volcanic activity and volcanic body avalanches.

Abstract:
With the aid of a whole-mount technique, we have detected a small cluster of alkaline phosphatase (ALP)-positive cells in whole mounts of mid-primitive-streak-stage embryos, 7–7 1/4 days post coitum (dpc). Within the cluster, about 8 cells contain a small cytoplasmic spot, intensely stained for ALP activity and possibly associated with an active Golgi complex. The cluster lies just posterior to the definitive primitive streak in the extraembryonic mesoderm, separated from the embryo by the amniotic fold. Towards the end of gastrulation, the number of cells containing the ALP-positive spot rises to between 50 and 80. Thereafter the number of cells in the extraembryonic cluster declines, and similar cells start to be seen in the mesoderm of the primitive streak and then in the endoderm. At 8 dpc, about 125 ALP-stained cells are found, mainly in the hindgut endoderm and also at the base of the allantois, their appearance and location at this stage agreeing closely with previous reports on primordial germ cells (PGCs). Embryos from which the cluster area has been removed at the 7-day stage are devoid of PGCs after culture for 48 h, whereas the excised tissue is rich in PGCs. We argue that the cells in the cluster are indeed primordial germ cells, at a stage significantly earlier than any reported previously. This would indicate that the PGC lineage in the mouse is set aside at least as early as 7 dpc, possibly as one of the first ‘mesodermal’ cell types to emerge, and that its differentiation, as expressed by ALP activity, is gradual.

Sunda Strait Tsunami happened in December 2018 due to a flank collapsed of Mount of Anak Krakatoa. Lampung Province was affected by Sunda Strait Tsunami at various locations that close to Mount of Anak Krakatoa. The research is conducted to modelling the tsunami wave that happened at Legundi Island in 1D model using SwanOne software. The methodology of the research is using data input from bathymetric survey and apply the wave transformation equations in the nearshore using SwanOne software to do the 1D model. There are four scenarios to do the wave modelling. All scenarios consider from former study about Sunda Strait Tsunami 2018. The results from all scenarios are verified by prior research from Takabatake (2019) of inundation height in Legundi Island, it is 3,34 m. The result shows the inundation height from wave modelling is a combination of wave height (1,533 m), water depth (1,658 m) and wave setup (0,215 m), and the outcome is 3,406 m. The model shows a fine result because the percentage error of the model is only 0,769%, which is below 5%. This research can be a good approach for another wave modelling in other locations and also to do further research to wave modelling in 2D model.

Abstract:
Tsunami is not only caused by the strength of tectonic earthquakes with the dislocation of the seafloor, but also by landslides /rocks in shallow waters, or the relatively large fall of meteors/ celestial bodies. Unlike other tsunamis caused by slab collisions, tsunamis in the Sunda Strait tsunami caused by high tides and underwater landslides due to the eruption of krakatoa. Tsunami due to the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau threatens at any time so that technology is needed to be able to help the community and BMKG monitor activities in the Sunda Strait so as to provide security and comfort of the surrounding residents. Therefore, research was made to measure the height of waves to detect high waves causing tsunamis in the Sunda Strait. In this research, Tsunami detection system using electrical circuits in its testing with submersible sensors as a wave height reader. The result of the sensor height readings read by the sensor in the process uses a Resberry-Pi microcontroller. The height limit set on the sensor produces siren sounds and sends short messages sent to residents of coastal communities of the Sunda Strait. The results showed that the tsunami detection system managed to read the water level in real time accurately according to the calibration equation. The water level reading tool set by the limit is 2 meters with the length of the wave using a maximum time of 90 seconds. The device will send a short message and produce a siren sound when the wave reaches a height of 2 meters for 90 seconds in a row. Sending messages takes 2-5 seconds, if there is a tsunami due to the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau the evacuation time to the safe zone for coastal communities of the Sunda Strait is still affordable and safe.

AbstractThe fourth season of the current project at Euesperides (Benghazi) took place in Spring 2002. Excavations continued in Areas P, Q and R, accompanied by limited augering work to determine the limits of surviving archaeology to the south of the Sidi Abeid mound. Excavations in Area P revealed part of a courtyard house from the penultimate phase of the site, with a probableandronandgunaikon. Its destruction is dated to after 261 BC. In Area Q work concentrated on the dismantling of street deposits and associated flanking houses from the later phases of the city's life; a soakaway drainage feature under the street was also investigated. The sequence of city wall circuits and their post-abandonment robbing was clarified. In Area R excavations established the structure of the mound of deposits deriving from the production of purple dye fromMurex trunculusshellfish, and its relationship to the robbed-out walls of the courtyard building within which this activity occurred. The processing of ceramic finds underlines the active trading contacts enjoyed by Euesperides, with most of the fine pottery and a fifth of the coarse pottery being imported from overseas, and transport amphorae ranging in origin from the Straits of Gibraltar to the northern Aegean. The coin finds confirm that the city was abandoned after the death of Magas (258/250 BC); and it appears that the Herakles types, common at the site, were minted there under Thibron (323–322/322 BC).

Abstract:
The murine Brachyury (T) gene is required in mesoderm formation. Mutants carrying different T alleles show a graded severity of defects correlated with gene dosage along the body axis. The phenotypes range from shortening of the tail to the malformation of sacral vertebrae in heterozygotes, and to disruption of trunk development and embryonic death in homozygotes. Defects include a severe disturbance of the primitive streak, an early cessation of mesoderm formation and absence of the allantois and notochord, the latter resulting in an abnormality of the neural tube and somites. The T gene is expressed in nascent mesoderm and in the notochord of wild-type embryos. Here the expression of T in whole-mount mutant embryos homozygous for the T allele TWis is described. The TWis gene product is altered, but the TWis/TWis phenotype is very similar to that of T/T embryos which lack T. In early TWis/TWis embryos T expression is normal, but ceases prematurely during early organogenesis coincident with a cessation of mesoderm formation. The archenteron/node region is disrupted and the extension of the notochord precursor comes to a halt, followed by a decrease and finally a complete loss of T gene expression in the primitive streak and the head process/notochord precursor. It appears that the primary defect of the mutant embryo is the disruption of the notochord precursor in the node region which is required for axis elongation. Thus the T gene product is directly or indirectly involved in the organization of axial development.

Abstract:
Pacific sand lance ( Ammodytes personatus) and surf smelt ( Hypomesus pretiosus) are ecologically important forage fish in the marine food webs within the Salish Sea, including British Columbia (BC). Although important, little information exists around the spatiotemporal distribution of these fishes’ beach spawning habitat in the BC Salish Sea. In 2017, the Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region Research Institute initiated spawning beach surveys within the Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region (MABR). Surveys have geographically expanded along the eastern Vancouver Island coastline between Bowser and Cowichan Bay, BC, including Gabriola Island and Thetis Island. Pacific sand lance embryos have been detected at 17 beaches, with six beaches located within the MABR. Pacific sand lance spawning events have been detected between November and mid-February, with the bulk of embryos detected in November and December. To date, surf smelt embryos have not been detected at the 56 different beaches. These data begin to fill existing data gaps surrounding Pacific sand lance and surf smelt in BC. Furthermore, longer-term data submissions to the Strait of Georgia Data Centre, an open-access database, will provide the necessary data needed to advocate for improved regulatory protections for these ecologically important fish and their spawning habitat.

Gravity measurement has been conducted in South Lampung area to study the characteristics of the distribution of bedrock and igneous rocks, especially those that can be utilized for development in the National Strategic Area of the Sunda Strait. This study uses a 2D qualitative modeling method and utilizing spectrum analysis of complete Bouguer anomaly data. Based on the result of modeling of residual gravity anomaly, it was found that the intrusion pattern on Sulan granitoid pluton and surrounding plutons showed a significant intrusion of the body and scattered in some Tarahan area. 2D qualitative modeling shows Paleozoic metamorphic rocks are responsible as bedding rocks, and the spread was identified scattered throughout the study area, although it cannot be ascertained whether the bedrock in the Bakauheni area is precisely the same rock as the bedrock in Tarahan area. Meanwhile, Quaternary volcanic rocks are still dominated by tuffaceous sandstone and breccia. This method also confirms that andesite lava is commonly found as a product of the eruption of Mount Rajabasa and Pre-Rajabasa in the Bakauheni region. Nevertheless, some potential of basaltic andesite rocks can be obtained in monogenetic volcanic zones exposed around the foot of Mount Rajabasa.

Volcanic activity of Mount Anak Krakatau has been increased in the recent years. One of the consequences was Tsunami Sunda Strait in 2018. This heightened the awareness of the potential impact of a tsunami induced by Anak Krakatau for the construction of NCICD Project. This research is aimed to calculate the potential impact in the terms of wave force. Tsunami Krakatau 1883 was used as reference for two reasons. First, the comprehensive research has been conducted for this event. Second, the magnitude of Mount Anak Krakatau-induced tsunami will not be higher than that of Tsunami Krakatau 1883. Non shallow water equation-based numerical model is applied to simulate the tsunami. Time series from the model result is extracted as an input to calculate the wave force. There are four different method used such as Rule of Thumb, Linear Theory, Sainflou Method and Goda Method. The results show that the tsunami will hit the outer sea dike with a minimal force of 100 kN and a maximum force of 400 kN. OSD1-A is the safest sea dike since the tsunami only will hit the structure with a half force.

Abstract:
Volcanic ash concentrations in the plume from Sakurajima volcano in Japan are observed from airplanes equipped with optical particle counters and GPS tracking devices. The volcano emits several puffs a day. The puffs are also recorded by the Sakurajima Volcanological Observatory. High concentrations are observed in the puffs and fallout driven by vertical air current, called streak fallout. Puffs dispersion is analyzed by the classical diffusion-advection method and a new gravitational dispersion method. The fluid mechanic of the gravitational dispersion, streak fallout, and classical diffusion-advection theory is described in three separate appendices together with methods to find the time gravitational dispersion constant and the diffusion coefficient from satellite photos. The diffusion-advection equation may be used to scale volcanic eruptions so the same eruption plumes can be scaled to constant flux and wind conditions or two eruptions can be scaled to each other. The dispersion analyses show that dispersion of volcanic plumes does not follow either theories completely. It is most likely diffusion in the interface of the plume and the ambient air, together with gravitational flattening of the plumes core. This means larger boundary concentration gradients and smaller diffusion coefficients than state of the art methods can predict.

Abstract:
The chicken homebox containing gene, CdxA (formerly CHox-cad), was previously shown to be expressed during gastrulation. Localization of CdxA transcripts by in situ hybridization to tissue sections revealed that, during gastrulation, expression of this gene exhibits a posterior localization along the primitive streak. The transcripts are localized to epiblast cells in the vicinity of the primitive streak, to cells of the primitive streak itself and in the definitive endoderm as it replaces the hypoblast. In order to study in greater detail the pattern of expression of the CdxA gene during gastrulation, we expressed the full-length CdxA protein as a fusion protein in E. coli and generated monoclonal antibodies against it. Chicken embryos at different stages of gastrulation were processed for whole-mount immunohistochemical localization of the protein using anti-CdxA antibodies. Once the pattern of expression in the whole embryo was determined, the same embryos were sectioned to determine the identity of the cells expressing the CdxA protein. Detailed analysis of the CdxA protein in embryos, from the onset of primitive streak formation to the beginning of the tail bud stage (stages 2 to 10), has shown different patterns of expression during primitive streak elongation and regression. The CdxA protein is initially detected at the posterior marginal zone and the expression moves rostrally into the primitive streak during mid-streak stages. As the primitive streak elongates, the CdxA stripe of expression moves anteriorly. By definitive streak stages, the CdxA stripe of expression delineates a position along the anterior-posterior axis in the primitive streak. CdxA, like its Drosophila homologue cad, is expressed during gastrulation in a stripe localized to the posterior region of the embryo. These observations suggest that CdxA as a homebox gene may be part of a regulatory network coupled to axial determination during gastrulation in the early chick embryo.

Abstract:
Instruments on two bottom-mount platforms deployed in the Bohai Strait during a cruise from January 6–13, 2018 recorded an intense northerly wind event. The responses of hydrodynamic and hydrographical characteristics in Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea to the wind event were analyzed aided by the wind, wave, sea surface suspended sediment concentration and sea surface height datasets from open sources. It is shown that the strong wind event had a significant impact on the redistribution of sea surface height, regional wave conditions, regional circulations and the accompanying sediment transport pattern. Specifically, the sediment transport through the Bohai Strait may be divided into two chronological phases related to the wind event: (1) the enhanced sediment transport phase during the buildup and peak of the wind event when both the Northern Shandong Coastal Current and regional suspended sediment concentration were sharply increased; and (2) the relaxation phase when the northerly wind subsided or even reversed, accompanied by the enhanced Yellow Sea Warm Current with lowered suspended sediment concentration. Such results at synoptic scale would improve our capability of quantifying sediment exchange between the Bohai and Yellow sea, through the Bohai Strait and provide valuable reference for the study of other similar environments worldwide.

The results of the study show that the empirical equation for estimating the pCO2 sea is as follows: : pCO2= -472.069+1044.043x log(SST) -435.897xlog(SSS) -5.03xlog (Chl). This formula can be applied for both seasons. The results of the analysis of the T-student test and p-value showed a strong relationship between the SST parameters and pCO2 with a correlation of 0.91 then followed by salinity with a correlation of -0.82. Whereas chlorophyll-a holds a weak proportion with a correlation of 0.32. The increase in SST accelerates the solubility of CO2 from atmosphere to the sea thereby increasing CO2 sea concentration and increasing pCO2 sea. While the increase in salinity and chlorophyll-a only gives a weak effect

Abstract:
Abstract. On 22 December 2018, a tsunami was generated from the Mount Anak Krakatau area that was caused by volcanic flank failures. The tsunami had severe impacts on the western coast of Banten and the southern coasts of Lampung in Indonesia. A series of surveys to measure the impacts of the tsunami was started 3 d after the tsunami and lasted for 10 d. Immediate investigations allowed the collection of relatively authentic images of the tsunami impacts before the clearing process started. This article investigates the impacts of the 2018 Sunda Strait tsunami on the affected areas and presents an analysis of the impacts of pure hydrodynamic tsunami forces on buildings. Impacts of the tsunami were expected to exhibit different characteristics than those found following the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami in Aceh. Data were collected from 117 flow depths along the Banten and Lampung coasts. Furthermore, 98 buildings or houses were assessed for damage. Results of this study revealed that the flow depths were higher in Banten than in Lampung. Directions of the tsunami arrays created by the complex bathymetry around the strait caused these differences. Tsunami-induced damage to buildings was mostly the result of impact forces and drag forces. Damping forces could not be associated with the damage. The tsunami warning system in Indonesia should be extended to anticipate non-seismic tsunamis, such as landslides and volcanic processes driven by tsunamis. The lack of a tsunami warning during the first few minutes after the generation of the first wave led to a significant number of human casualties in both of the affected areas.

Abstract:
AbstractFollowing more than 25 years of exploration and research since the last regional appraisal, the number of known subaerially exposed volcanoes in the northern Antarctic Peninsula region has more than trebled, from less than 15 to more than 50, and that total must be increased at least three-fold if seamounts in Bransfield Strait are included. Several volcanoes remain unvisited and there are relatively few detailed studies. The region includes Deception Island, the most prolific active volcano in Antarctica, and Mount Haddington, the largest volcano in Antarctica. The tectonic environment of the volcanism is more variable than elsewhere in Antarctica. Most of the volcanism is related to subduction. It includes very young ensialic marginal basin volcanism (Bransfield Strait), back-arc alkaline volcanism (James Ross Island Volcanic Group) and slab-window-related volcanism (seamount offshore of Anvers Island), as well as volcanism of uncertain origin (Anvers and Brabant islands; small volcanic centres on Livingston and Greenwich islands). Only ‘normal’ arc volcanism is not clearly represented, possibly because active subduction virtually ceased atc.4 Ma. The eruptive environment for the volcanism varied between subglacial, marine and subaerial but a subglacial setting is prominent, particularly in the James Ross Island Volcanic Group.
