Alpine soils are young, poorly developed soils that occur above treeline. This study investigates soils located in the alpine-subalpine zone of the Wallowa Mountains, northeast Oregon. Parent material, topography, and vegetation are the most influential pedogenic factors in the high alpine landscape of the Wallowas. This study analyzes mountain-front recharge from the Santa Rita mountains. Trilinear diagrams, finger-print diagrams, and scattergrams suggest that two types of water recharge the regional aquifer by effluent seepage as Madera Canyon Stream flows onto Madera Canyon fan. One type of water is dominated by calcium and bicarbonate ions, and the other type is dominated by calcium and sulfate ions. The Tatric crystalline unit of the Western Carpathians in northern Slovakia displays an inverted metamorphic sequence where high-grade migmatite and orthogneiss units are overlying lower-grade mica schists. Enclosed within the migmatites are lenses of eclogite-bearing amphibolites. Firstly distance sampling technique involving transects and total count methods were employed to assess population size and dynamics of MN. I determined the source parameters of 53 moderate-sized earthquakes in the region of the Eastern Himalayan Syntaxis through the joint inversion of regional and teleseismic distance long-period body waves. The average rates of deformation are determined by summing the moment tensors from both recent and historic earthquakes. The issue of sediment removal from the San Gabriel Mountains has been a complex issue that has created problems with beach replenishment, habitat destruction and the need to spend millions of dollars at regular intervals to avoid safety hazards. Most recently 11 acres of riparian habitat, including 179 oaks and 70 sycamores, were removed for sediment placement. Other sites including Hahamongna Watershed Park and La Tuna Canyon also face a similar fate. Terrain-following meshes become highly distorted above such steep slopes, degrading the numerical balance between the pressure gradient and gravity. My paintings rely on discovery-- excavating into the surface to find the painting beneath. I work in an actual space that dimensionally inhabits the picture plane. The process begins with acrylic paint applied in thick layers, creating a sedimentation of color that is later unearthed. The painting emerges as I carve, gouge and dig away dry paint to reveal and investigate a world in paint alone. The process allows for a journey through the depth of the paint, subtracting and adding to the supports until the painting is ultimately resolved.
