The generation of goal-directed movements requires the solution of many difficult computational problems. Among these are transformations from extrinsic to intrinsic reference frames, specifying solution paths, removing under-specification due to excess degrees of freedom and path multiplicity, constraint satisfaction, and error correction. There are no current motor-control computational models that address these issues in the context of realistic arm movement with redundant degrees of freedom. In this paper, we conjecture there is a geometric stage between sensory input and physical executio

Does repression increase or decrease unity within ethnic or nationalist movements? Conventional wisdom lends itself to two contradictory predictions. On one hand, it is said that conflict with an out-group is the surest path to unity in an in-group. On the other hand, repression exaggerates the gap between radicals and moderates in a movement. Challenging both views, this article argues that repression amplifies trends in cooperation or conflict existent in a movement before the onset of repression. All movements have some institutional arrangement, meaning a set of procedures and relationship

Abstract:
AbstractInternational movements by people from economically highly developed welfare states are a puzzle for the classic canon of migration theories, which generally focus on flows from less to more developed regions. Based on a simple theoretical framework linking largely disparate literatures on international and internal migration as well as the field of global work experience, this chapter provides an analysis of the emigration and remigration decisions of German citizens. Whereas the five theoretical dimensions-expected financial returns, job satisfaction, social capital, mobility capital, and employment in transnational professions-already explain much of the variance in the emigration decisions, the theoretical and empirical understanding of remigration decision-making processes remains a challenge. Contributing to recent debates about a brain drain from economically highly developed countries, this chapter provides evidence that the international migration of German citizens is best understood as brain circulation. Temporary migration dominates these international movements and emigrants are similar to remigrants along many theoretical dimensions. Although some indications for a potential loss of human capital caused by international migration do exist, they remain insignificant in light of Germany’s overall volume of international migration. Political debates about flows of people from highly developed countries should focus less on potential losses of human capital for national economies and more on the economic and non-economic returns international migration offers for individual life courses.

From the start, the Umbrella Movement failed to win overwhelming public support. Why would many Hong Kong people not endorse a civil disobedience movement aimed at dismantling the exclusionary political order and bringing forth democracy? Based on an original public opinion survey collected during the movement, this article provides preliminary answers to these questions. I find that those who disapproved of the movement are no less politically informed. Instead, three factors were strong predictors of disapproval of the movement: (1) satisfaction with the performance of the chief executive; (2) distrust of democracy as a solution to Hong Kong’s problems; and (3) concern about the negative impact of the protest on the rule of law.

Abstract:
The discussion on the digital gender divide is often focused on the women who are yet to adopt ICT. The focus on women who adopt and reject ICT is rare. Women who adopt and reject ICT also account for women who do not access ICT. They often reject ICT because they are unsatisfied with the ICT technology or service adopted. To shed light on this discussion, a small scaled deductive exploratory research was conducted to understand the role of post-adoption satisfaction on the adoption of functionalities provided via mobile Facebook. The theoretical approach was the expectation and confirmation theory. The outcome indicated that post-adoption satisfaction did affect how much of the functionalities on mobile Facebook the female respondents were interested in exploring. Based on this outcome, this chapter presents a postulation in the form of a discussion to indicate that post-adoption satisfaction could be one of the reasons for the global digital gender divide.

Abstract:
This chapter looks at a particular instance of the local production of Catholicism in Cameroon by focusing on the agency of a ritual specialist and promoter of inculturation, Father Hebga, a Jesuit charismatic priest, who negotiates the related contradictions through ambiguous processes of religious and cultural hybridization. The leading pastoral concern at the heart of his praxis is the satisfaction of the needs of the faithful searching for healing in the framework of the catholic charismatic renewal. As one of the pioneers of Catholic charismatic renewal in Sub-Saharan Africa, Hebga’s agency mediates between the institutional constraints of the church hierarchy and the religious needs of the masses. The wider ideological framework is the discourse of Inculturation which has dominated theological debates in Africa Catholicism since the 1970s. In this context we see how Father Hebga operates as a cultural broker of postcolonial discourses, vying to restore the dignity of Africans violated by symbolic violence associated with the slave trade, colonization and Christian missionization.

Abstract:
Chapter 8 explores the dilemmas of belonging that arise in the solidarity orientation, in work aimed at increasing group and movement cohesion. The chapter considers first whether constituents and adherents can share work-in-common within the movement itself. It distinguishes between three approaches: disjoint “unlived politics,” conjoint “prefiguration,” and “self-sufficiency.” The chapter also considers whether constituents and adherents can derive the same emotional satisfaction from the life of the social movement. It argues that the emotions that motivate constituents differ from those that motivate adherents. The adherent’s disjoint emotions—felt for or in relation to others—are hard to share with the constituents, whose own emotions—hurt, anger, pride—shared conjointly with each other, are hard to share with the adherents. The theory is used to explain the last of the puzzling cases: the difficulties of middle-class Victorian socialists in achieving fellowship with the workers.

This chapter talks about the satisfaction of recalling some of the achievements of the Women's Suffrage Movement in Britain, especially in a period when the possibilities of social progress and the practicability of applied social science are being questioned. The development of the personal, legal, and political liberties of half the population of the country within the span of less than eighty years stands as one of the supreme examples of consciously directed social change. The chapter then draws together some of the vital statistics of birth, marriage, and death for the light they shed on the changes that have taken place in the social position of women. Then, it suggests that the accumulated effect of these changes now presents the makers of social policy with some new and fundamental problems.

Social media is used to share the data or information among the large group of people. Big data is a term used for data sets that are large or complex and that cannot be processed by traditional processing system. Sentimental analysis is one of the major data analytics applied on big data. It is a task of natural language processing to determine whether a text contains subjective information and what information it expresses. It helps in achieving various goals like the measurement of customer satisfaction, observing public mood on political movement, movie sales prediction, market intelligence, and many more. In this chapter, the authors present various techniques used for sentimental analysis and related work using these techniques. The chapter also presents open issues and challenges in sentimental analysis landscape.

Abstract:
Abstract To cope with today’s frequent, extensive and unpredictable changes, humans and machines need to work together on the same team. Team organization and management called for now is to develop a truly adaptable network without any constraints. Movement works as a communication tool for the human-machine team, and in addition, movement will bring emotional harmonization between humans and machines and psychological satisfaction and happiness to humans. Although instinct has been neglected in traditional engineering, it plays an important role to coordinate many body parts and balance our

Heavy traffic consequences in crowded cities can be extremely reduced by using mass transportation. Recent extensive studies on Tehran subway system, as a representative of crowded cities, show that ever increasing commutation demand results in rapid decline in service quality and satisfaction level, system capacity wastage, and poorer system performance. Since passenger boarding/alighting period is noticeable compared to the inter-station travel time, it seems that passenger boarding/alighting management would play a significant role in system performance improvement. Aiming at increasing sat

Abstract:
Abstract A novel approach for the automatic generation and refinement of finite element meshes over nonconvex domains subdivided by multiply connected, rigid body-movable subdomains has been developed. The basis of this method relies on 1) the automatic insertion of nodes on the digitized boundaries and within the interiors of movable subdomains 2) the generation of superelement meshes, using the nodes which have been inserted on the subdomains, 3) determination of the points of intersection between adjacent subdomains following their rigid body movement, 3) ensuring the satisfaction of both i
