As an important tool to influence stakeholders’ perception, leader messages, subsumed under public relations discourse, play an integral role in corporate communication. Drawing on the analysis of linguistic move structure and communication styles employed by researchers, this study adopts a multidimensional framework by using both discourse and quantitative analysis to compare how leaders in Global 500 corporations in China and the United States rely upon specific linguistic features to engage stakeholders in corporate discourse published on their websites. In this paper, we will conduct a preliminary investigation into a relatively new approach to terminography: corpus-based terminography. This subject has thus far received very little attention in the terminology literature, so we will begin by briefly investigating the evolution of corpus-based research in the fields of linguistics and lexicography. We will then move on to examine in more detail the development of the emerging field of corpus-based terminography, including the advantages of adopting a corpus-based approach and the requirements for compiling machine-readable corpora that are us

This paper explores the pervasiveness of features of orality in the language of performed fiction. Features of orality are typical of spontaneous spoken conversations where they are the result of the ongoing planning process and the interaction between the interlocutors, but they also occur in the context of performed fiction (movies and plays) and in narrative fiction (e.g. novels). In these contexts, they are not the result of the spontaneous planning process but are generally produced to imitate such processes.
