This work introduces an extension of the iterated moving average filter, called the Extended Kolmogorov-Zurbenko (EKZ) filter for time series and spatio-temporal analysis. The iterated application of a central simple moving average (SMA) filter, also known as a Kolmogorov-Zurbenko (KZ) filter, is a low-pass filter defined by the length of the moving average window and the number of iterations. These two arguments determine the filter properties such as the energy transfer function and cut-off frequency. However, the existing KZ filter is only defined for positive odd integer window lengths. Th

Continuous Thermodilution is a novel method of quantifying coronary flow (Q) in mL/min. To account for variability of Q within the cardiac cycle, the trace is smoothened with a 2 s moving average filter. This can sometimes be ineffective due to significant heart rate variability, ventricular extrasystoles, and deep inspiration, resulting in a fluctuating temperature trace and ambiguity in the location of the “steady state”. Abstract:
This paper provides a simple and direct output-only baseline-free method to detect damage from the noisy acceleration data by using Moving Average Filter (MAF). MAF is a convolution approach based on a simple filter kernel (rectangular shape) that works as an averaging method to smooth signal and remove incorporated noise. In this paper, a method is proposed to employ MAF to smooth acceleration signals obtained from a series of accelerometers and determine the damage location along a steel beam. To verify the proposed method, a simply supported beam was modelled through a 3D numerical simulati

Abstract:
Due to high demand in Internet of Things applications, researchers are exploring deeper alternative methods to provide efficiency in terms of application, energy, and cost among other factors. A frequently used technique is the Received Signal Strength Indicator value for different Internet of Things applications. It is imperative to investigate the digital signal filter for the Received Signal Strength Indicator readings to interpret it into more reliable data. A contrasting analysis of three different types of digital filters is presented in this paper, namely: Simple Moving Average filter,

Abstract:
With the rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT), the positioning accuracy requirement of the IoT is increasing, especially for those applications without Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals. Ultra-Wideband (UWB) is treated as a high-accuracy positioning method that can be utilized in GNSS-blocked environments. However, UWB’s performance is still limited when it is applied in practical applications due to errors such as Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) errors, multipath errors, and systematic errors in UWB range values. To constrain the impacts of these mentioned errors on UWB

Abstract:
Moving average filter is a signal processing method used to reduce fluctuations or noise in data by taking the average of the most recent values. This filter works by taking the n most recent values in the data and calculating the average. This research investigates the effect of the n parameter value in the moving average filter on the stability of ultrasonic sensor readings regarding object distance. It was found that the value of n had a significant impact on the stability of the results. Using n = 20 produces a stable graph of distance values with minimal fluctuations, while n = 10 reduces
