Abstract:
In this thesis we investigated the MQTT protocol, which results in being a valid solution for data transmission in an IoT solution. After having explored the main communication protocols, we focused on the main features of the MQTT that has been selected for our application. To this purpose, a MQTT broker has been created on Node-RED, while the remaining elements of the application have been developed on MATLAB. In particular, we exploited the MQTT and the Database toolboxes: the former is used to exchange data between two PCs through the MQTT protocol, while the latter is necessary to insert data into a database. Before describing the application, we discussed the relevance of databases and the one we have chosen for our need. The application we implemented showed how to transmit smart data between different devices on the same network through the MQTT protocol, with the aim to store information in a central database on PostgreSQL. The architecture built could be easily generalized and therefore applied in a real industrial case, as the possibility to centralize data generated from several machine controllers is becoming a fundamental requirement for industries. In summary, the aim of this paper is to create a new communication exchange information data between machines in an industry, home or any other domain by using the lightweight protocol communication call MQTT. Although Node-Red, MatLAb, Postgres can be written in different program language, they can share each other information, data to manage, control and monitoring entire system without using any cable to link the machine but only an Internet connection. IIoT becomes more popular nowadays.

Internet of Things, i.e. IoT, has become a very trending topic in researchand has been investigated in recent years. There can be severaldifferent scenarios and implementations where IoT is involved. Eachof them has its requirements. In these type IoT networks new communicationprotocols which are meant to be lightweight are includedsuch as MQTT.In this thesis there are two key aspects which are under study: securityand achieving a lightweight communication. We want to proposea secure and lightweight solution in an IoT scenario using MQTT asthe communication protocol.We perform different experiments with different implementationsover MQTT which we evaluate, compare and analyze.The results obtained help to answer our research questions andshow that the proposed solution fulfills the goals we proposed in thebeginning of this work.<br>"Internet of Things", dvs IoT, har blivit ett mycket trenderande ämneinom forskning och har undersökts de senaste åren. Det kan finnasflera olika scenarier och implementeringar där IoT är involverad. Varoch en av dem har sina krav. I dessa typer av IoT-nätverk ingår nyakommunikationsprotokoll som är lightweight, såsom MQTT.I detta arbete finns två viktiga aspekter som studeras: säkerhet ochuppnå en lightweight kommunikation. Vi vill föreslå en säker och lightweight lösning i ett IoT-scenario med MQTT som kommunikationsprotokoll.Vi utför olika experiment med olika implementeringar över MQTTsom vi utvärderar, jämför och analyserar.De erhållna resultaten bidrar till att svara på våra forskningsfrågoroch visar att den föreslagna lösningen uppfyller de mål vi föreslog ibörjan av detta arbete.

Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka och förstå hur säkerhetsöverträdelser kan förhindrasoch mitigeras i ett MQTT protokoll för att öka den överliggande säkerheten. Jag är särskiltintresserad av tekniker såsom Fuzzing, Fuzzy Logic och Machine Learning..För att undersöka syftet, analyserade och diskuterade jag tidigare implementationer avFuzzing, Fuzzy Logic och Machine Learning, i ett MQTT protokoll. Analysen visade attFuzzing ansågs vara en väldigt effektiv metod för att förhindra säkerhetsöverträdelser samtatt både Fuzzy Logic och Machine Learning var effektiva metoder för mitigering.Sammanfattningsvis, kan säkerhetsnivån i ett MQTT protokoll öka genom implementering avmetoder som används i syfte att förhindra och mitigera säkerhetsöverträdelser. Exempelviskan man först använda Fuzzing för att hitta och korrigera sårbarheter och därigenomförhindra dem. Därefter kan man antingen använda sig av Fuzzy Logic eller MachineLearning för att mitigera plötsliga attacker på MQTT protokollet när den är i produktion.Detta betyder att att utvecklaren kan kombinera metoder för att både förhindra och mitigeraöverträdelser i syfte att öka säkerhetsnivån i ett MQTT protokoll.

Abstract:
Human seeks the maximum profits with least efforts in each and every single life aspect. The development of technology starting with the machine-to-machine concept to reduce human interface with manufacturing processes, hence reducing errors, cost and time. The development enters a new era of connecting those machines and devices to internet, and furthermore make part of data processing and analysis at those machine or devices parts. This concept is what is known nowadays as the Internet of Things (IoT). In this thesis, design for a proposed system is introduced. MQTT messaging protocol used as the data exchange protocol to aggregate the data from WSN that incorporated local and remote sensor. ATmega 328 microcontroller unit, NodeMCU development board, SIM800L GSM module and DHT11 sensor modules where used to implement the nodes while Raspberry Pi 3B was used to implement a gateway that acts as the MQTT broker in order to aggregate the data. The proposed system has been implemented and tested successfully. The power consumption for the remote sensor nodes consumed only 20 mWh and the response time for the data transferred within the system’s network from the remote sensor node to the server is about 7 milliseconds with a total error of 0.11%. The system shows an excellent performance and provide a simple solution to link remote sensors which are out of the gateway’s local network coverage.

Microcontroller platforms are heavily used in embedded solutions adopted in nearly every industry covering a wide range of applications and use cases. In the paper and pulp industry the change prompted by the rising popularity of data decentralisation, big data analysis and machine learning, forces companies to upgrade or renew old platforms used to collect and analyse data. This thesis will evaluate a generation change for a communication platform that collects data from a sensor, its capabilities regarding secure communication over TCP/IP with the possibility to implement an efficient machine-to-machine communication protocol. The main focus of the evaluation is development, implementation and integration of software for the embedded system with a real time operating system using the ARM Cortex M7. Using small open source tools and the powerful ARM core we were able to build a small, flexible, real time system that publishes sensor data over MQTT securely using TCP/IP and TLS.

Abstract:
Internet of Things (IoT) is poised to transform the quality of life and provide new business opportunities with its wide range of applications. However, the bene_ts of this emerging paradigm are coupled with serious cyber security issues. The lack of strong cyber security measures in protecting IoT systems can result in cyber attacks targeting all the layers of IoT architecture which includes the IoT devices, the IoT communication protocols and the services accessing the IoT data. Various IoT malware such as Mirai, BASHLITE and BrickBot show an already rising IoT device based attacks as well as the usage of infected IoT devices to launch other cyber attacks. However, as sustained IoT deployment and functionality are heavily reliant on the use of e_ective data communication protocols, the attacks on other layers of IoT architecture are anticipated to increase. In the IoT landscape, the publish/- subscribe based Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol is widely popular. Hence, cyber security threats against the MQTT protocol are projected to rise at par with its increasing use by IoT manufacturers. In particular, the Internet exposed MQTT brokers are vulnerable to protocolbased Application Layer Denial of Service (DoS) attacks, which have been known to cause wide spread service disruptions in legacy systems. In this thesis, we propose Application Layer based DoS attacks that target the authentication and authorisation mechanism of the the MQTT protocol. In addition, we also propose an MQTT protocol attack detection framework based on machine learning. Through extensive experiments, we demonstrate the impact of authentication and authorisation DoS attacks on three opensource MQTT brokers. Based on the proposed DoS attack scenarios, an IoT-MQTT attack dataset was generated to evaluate the e_ectiveness of the proposed framework to detect these malicious attacks. The DoS attack evaluation results obtained indicate that such attacks can overwhelm the MQTT brokers resources even when legitimate access to it was denied and resources were restricted. The evaluations also indicate that the proposed DoS attack scenarios can signi_cantly increase the MQTT message delay, especially in QoS2 messages causing heavy tail latencies. In addition, the proposed MQTT features showed high attack detection accuracy compared to simply using TCP based features to detect MQTT based attacks. It was also observed that the protocol _eld size and length based features drastically reduced the false positive rates and hence, are suitable for detecting IoT based attacks.

Abstract:
This thesis project has studied a number of protocols that could be used to communicate between a vehicle and a remote server in the context of Scania’s connected services. While there are many factors that are of interest to Scania (such as response time, transmission speed, and amount of data overhead for each message), this thesis will evaluate each protocol in terms of how much data overhead is introduced and how packet loss affects this overhead. The thesis begins by giving an overview of how a number of alternative protocols work and what they offer with regards to Scania’s needs. Next these protocols are compared based on previous studies and each protocol’s specifications to determine which protocol would be the best choice for realizing Scania’s connected services. Finally, a test framework was set up using a virtual environment to simulate different networking conditions. Each of the candidate protocols were deployed in this environment and setup to send sample data. The behaviour of each protocol during these tests served as the basis for the analysis of all of these protocols. The thesis draws the conclusion that to reduce the data transmission overhead between vehicles and Scania’s servers the most suitable protocol is the UDP based MQTT SN.<br>I den här rapporten har jag undersökt ett antal protokoll som kan användas för att kommunicera mellan server och lastbil och därmed användas för Scanias Connected Services. Då det är många faktorer som är intressanta när det kommer till kommunikation mellan lastbil och server för Scania som till exempel responstid, överföringshastighet och mängden extra data vid överföring så har jag valt att begränsa mig till att utvärdera protokollen utifrån hur mycket extra data de använder vid överföring och hur detta påverkas av paketförlust. Rapporten börjar med att ge en överblick över vilka tänkbara protokoll som kan användas och vad de kan erbjuda gällande Scanias behov. Efter det så jämförs protokollen baserat på tidigare studier och protokollens specifikationer för att avgöra vilket protokoll som är bäst lämpat att användas i Scanias Connected Services. Sists så skapas ett virtuellt ramverk för att simulera olike nätverksförhållanden. Här testas varje protokoll och får sända olike datamängder för att sedan få sin prestanda utvärderad baserat på hur mycket extra data som sändes. Dessa resultat ligger sedan till grund för den analys och slutsats angående vilket protokoll som är bäst lämpat att användas av Scania. Rapporten drar slutsatsen att baserat på den information som finns tillgänglig och de resultat som ficks av testerna så skulle den UDP baserade MQTT-SN vara bäst lämpad för att minimera mängden extra data som skickas.

Grazie alla costante evoluzione tecnologica, negli ultimi anni sempre più oggetti di vita quotidiana stanno accedendo ad Internet. Il proliferare dei dispositivi “smart” ha dato il via ad una nuova rivoluzione tecnologica: quella di Internet of Things (IoT), che sta portando nelle mani degli utenti un elevatissimo numero di informazioni in grado di offrire notevoli benefici alla vita di ogni giorno. Per poter accedere ai dati messi a disposizione risulterà necessario realizzare un servizio in grado di consentire la scoperta, l’accesso e l’interazione con i nodi della rete che si occuperanno della gestione delle informazioni. In letteratura sono già disponibili alcuni di questi meccanismi, ma essi presentano dei difetti che verrebbero ancor più accentuati dalle ridotte capacità computazionali dei terminali IoT. In questo progetto di tesi verrà presentato un servizio di discovery per gateway IoT Kura-based, pensato, grazie all’utilizzo del protocollo di messaggistica MQTT, per operare con terminali dalle performance limitate ed in situazioni di scarsa connettività. Il servizio realizzato prevede che degli smartphone Android richiedano a tutti i gateway in una determinata località i parametri per entrare nel loro network. La richiesta verrà inviata mediante un messaggio MQTT pubblicato in un topic location-specific su un broker remoto. I gateway che riceveranno il messaggio, se interessati alle caratteristiche del client, gli risponderanno comunicando i dati di accesso al network in modo che il dispositivo possa auto-configurarsi per accedervi. Ad accesso avvenuto client e gateway comunicheranno in modo diretto attraverso un broker locale. In fase di testing si valuteranno le performance del servizio analizzando i tempi di risposta e l’utilizzo di risorse lato gateway, e l’assorbimento di potenza lato client.

Abstract:
IoT is a rapidly growing area with products in the consumer, commercial and industrial market. Collecting data with multiple small and often battery-powered devices sets new challenges for both security and communication. There has been a distinct lack of a IoT specific communication protocols. The industry has had to use bulky interfaces not suitable for resource-constrained devices. MQTT is a standardised communication protocol made for the IoT industry. MQTT does however not have built-in security and it is up to the developers to implement a suitable security countermeasure. To evaluate how different security countermeasures impact MQTT in complexity, current consumption and security the following research questions are answered. How do you derive a measurement from the SEF that can be compared with a current consumption measurement? Which level of security, according to the SEF, will RSA, AES and TLS provide to MQTT when publishing a message to a broker? What level of complexity is added to MQTT when using chosen security countermeasure? Which of the analysed security countermeasure upholds an adequate security level while also having a low current consumption? To answer the above research questions an experiment approach has been used. Implementations of TLS, RSA and AES have been evaluated to measure how they affect the security level and current consumption of an MQTT publication, compared to no security countermeasures at all.Both RSA and AES had the same security level, but the current consumption for RSA was four times higher. The experiment showed that the security level is significantly higher for TLS, while it also has the highest current consumption. The security countermeasure evaluated differs greatly. TLS provides complete protections, while RSA and AES lacks authentication and does not ensure integrity and non-repudiation.Even if the current consumption for TLS is higher, the security it provides make it unreasonable to recommend any of the other security countermeasure implementations.

This project was aimed at developing affordable solutions to improve performances of real-time monitoring of road vehicles utilizing low-cost satellite positioning equipment and wireless cellular communication network. This study investigates the problems by measuring and benchmarking two-way communication latency, data reliability and positioning accuracy using low-cost GPS equipment and a lightweight machine-to-machine (M2M) protocol called Message Queue Transmission Telemetry (MQTT). A prototype of vehicle monitoring platform which consists of on-board-unit and central monitoring server was developed to facilitate the research study.

Abstract:
This study compares the scalability of two popular communication protocols within IoT, MQTT and WebSocket. The scalability comparison of the protocols is performed using a publish-subscribe pattern. EMQX is used to run the MQTT message broker, and Socket.IO is used for theWebSocket message broker. Five metrics are recorded; memory usage, network usage, CPU utilization, Round Trip Time (RTT) and message loss. The brokers are set in two different scenarios. The first scenario being many publishers and few subscribers, and the second scenario being many subscribers and few publishers. AWS EC2 is used to host the brokers, as well as the publishers and subscribers. The findings of this study indicate that WebSocket is best suited for memory usage and CPU utilization. MQTT is much better suited when it comes to network usage. MQTT and WebSocket has almost identical average RTT in the first scenario. However in the second scenario MQTT has an average RTT of 164 ms, compared to WebSocket that has an average RTT of 331 ms. Both communication protocols perform similar for message loss, whereWebSocket has zero dropped message, while  MQTT has a drop rate of only 0.001%.<br>Denna studie jämförde skalbarheten mellan två populära kommunikationsprotokoll inom IoT, MQTT och WebSocket. För att jämföra skalbarheten av kommunikationsprotokollen användes en utgivare-prenumerant-metodik. För MQTT användes meddelandehanteraren EMQX, och för WebSocket användes Socket.IO. Fem mätvärden dokumenterades; minnesanvändning, nätverksanvändning, CPU-användning, tur och retur - tid och meddelandeförlust. Meddelandehanterarna sattes i två olika scenarier. Första scenariot bestod av många utgivare och få prenumeranter. Det andra scenariot bestod av många prenumeranter och få utgivare. AWS EC2 användes för att agera som värd för meddelandehanterarna, samt för utgivarna och prenumeranterna. Resultaten av denna studie indikerar att WebSocket är bäst lämpad för minnesanvändning och CPU-användning. MQTT är däremot bättre lämpad för nätverksanvändning. MQTT och WebSocket hade nästan identiska genomsnittliga tur och retur - tider i första scenariot, dock i andra scenariot hade MQTT en genomsnittlig tur och retur - tid på 164 ms medan WebSocket hade en genomsnittlig tur och retur - tid på 331 ms. Båda kommunikationsprotokollen hade snarlika resultat när det kom till  meddelandeförlust, WebSocket hade noll tappade meddelanden och MQTT hade en meddelandeförlust på 0.001 %.

Abstract:
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the impact on latency and power consumption of certain usage environments for selected communication protocols that have been designed for resource constrained usage. The research questions in this thesis is based on the findings in Lindén report “A latency comparison of IoT protocols in MES” and seeks to answer the following: ”How does MQTT impact the latency and power consumption on a constrained device?” ”How does CoAP impact the latency and power consumption on a constrained device?” ”How does usage environment influence the latency for MQTT and CoAP?” This thesis only seeks to explore concepts and usage environments related to wireless sensor networks, internet of things and constrained devices. The experiments have been carried out on a ESP WROOM 32 Core board V2 applying MQTT and CoAP as the communication protocols. The overall research method used in this thesis is the experimental research design proposed by Wohlin et al. Experiments have been created to support or disprove hypotheses which are formulated to answer the research questions. The experiments were conducted in test environments, which mimic a real-life wireless sensor network environment. The process is thoroughly recorded to further increase the traceability of this thesis. This decision was made due to a comment Boyle et al. made about the problems with real-life experiments about the wireless communication-based research domain. Where Boyle et al. states that there is “insufficient knowledge” available for the research community. The MQTT related latency experiments showed that QoS level 0 had the lowest latency of all the QoS levels. However, the results also showed that QoS 1 and 2 almost had an identical latency. The CoAP related latency experiments did not indicate any obvious trends. The results from the power consumption related experiments were inconclusive since the data was incomplete. The usage environment related experiments yielded conclusive results. The data showed that there was a small variation in the latency impact across the various usage environments. Furthermore, the data suggest that CoAP and MQTT had lower latencies in a high signal strength environment compared to a lower signal strength environment. However, it is not clear if there were any unknown factors influencing the results.

Internet of things (IoT) är det överläggande området i denna rapport. IoT är ett väldigt intressant I nuläget och är snabbt växande. IoT kan beskrivas som ett nätverk av kommunicerande enheter som delar information och automatiserar eller försimplar uppgifter och därav ökar effektivitet och säkerhet. Området växer så pass fort att det förväntas vara 24 miljarder anslutna enheter vid år 2050, denna utökning leder i sin tur till ett ökat behov av förståelse för IoT protokollen som hanterar kommunikationen emellan enheterna. Detta för att kunna välja det mest optimala protokollet för ett givet scenario. Detta arbete kommer att välja ett lovande protokoll för undersökning samt evaluering gällande dess prestation berörande fördröjning, dataöverföringshastighet och skalbarhet.  Protokollet som valdes var MQTT (Message Queuing Telemetry Transport). Baserat på dessa evaluerade värden föra en diskussion gällande protokollets lämplighet inom scenariona. Värdena kommer att tas fram via tidmätningar start till slut för kommunikationen samt tid för att skicka en mängd meddelanden, båda i respekt till antalet samtidigt kommunicerande program. Testen körs med en lokal PC som agerar Broker och en Raspberry Pi som kör samtliga programmen i individuella terminaler. Resultaten var att fördröjningen verkar ha en näst intill linjär relation och dataöverföringshastighet ett exponentiellt avtagande beteende i respekt till samtidigt kommunicerande enheter. Dem mätta resultaten analyseras och diskuteras, och kommer till slutsatsen att protokollet är en lämplig kandidat för de flesta scenarion, så som smarta bilar, smarta hem och till viss del industriell användning. Den största nackdelen med protokollet var dess höga standardavvikelse gällande individuella meddelandens fördröjning.<br>Internet of things (IoT) is the base topic of this thesis, and it is a rapidly growing area, it can be described  as a network of communicating devices sharing information and streamlining tasks in addition to increasing efficiency and security. It is expected to be 24 billion connected devices by year 2050 and with this growth comes an increased demand on understanding the IoT protocols to be able to choose a suitable protocol for a given scenario. This thesis will discuss this area and pick one protocol to evaluate specifically regarding latency, throughput, and scalability. The protocol chosen were MQTT (Message Queuing Telemetry Transport). Based on these values then discuss whether the protocol is a suitable candidate for the scenarios. The data to evaluate this will be gathered by measuring the end-to-end time of the protocol in respect to the number of communicating programs, and to measure the time it takes to communicate a number of messages with respect to the number of programs handling the communication. These tests are performed with a local PC acting as the broker and a Raspberry pi running each of the communicating programs on individual terminals. The results were that latency seem to have a close to liner relation, and that throughput seem to have an exponentially decreasing relation with respect to number of clients cooperating. The measured results are analyzed and discussed and concluded that the protocol is a fitting candidate for most scenarios such as smart cars, smart homes and to some extent industry. The biggest flawed concluded was the protocols high standard deviation for individual messages latency. The outcome of the benchmarks measurement showed that increasing the number of nodes would not result in superior performance. It was noted that an optimal number of nodes was found to be between 1 and 20 for all the tests performed. The study showed that no load balancer could be considered a clear winner, instead, different configurations of load balancers performed varyingly well at different tests.

In the domain of the Internet of Things (IoT), The Message Queueing Telemetry Protocol (MQTT) is the most widely used protocol for applications across a wide range of realms, including industrial automation, healthcare, smart homes, and smart cities; MQTT is also used in many other critical real-world applicastions. An example is BMW’s Car Sharing application, that uses MQTT to provide reliable connectivity. However, due to a lack of security considerations during the design of the MQTT protocol, all the networks implementing it are prone to cyberattacks, such as denial-of-service (DoS) attacks. While the research community has a primary focus on MQTT vulnerabilities from the perspective of intrusion detection, digital forensic considerations of the protocol have yet to be addressed. This work attempts to address this issue, specifically by generating a novel dataset based on data captured from a testbed in an IoT setting, and the application of optimised Machine Learning (ML) algorithms to differentiate between cyberattacks and benign network traffic. The philosophical assumptions guiding the conduct of this research are Positivist Paradigm, Quantitative Methodology, Experimental Research Mode, and Quasi-Experimental as a Sub-category. As a result of the IoT testbed construction, a substantial quantity of IoT data was produced, including standard MQTT data and ten different DoS and DDoS attack scenarios. In addition, a network forensic analysis of the collected data shows specific information that can be extracted and the differences between attacks and normal data. Also, eight different ML algorithms were compared, resulting in the suggestions of Random Forest (RF), XGBoost, and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) for use in the proposed framework. Gray Wolf Optimiser (GWO) was selected to combine RF and ANN in a core component of the framework. It has been demonstrated that RF with GWO and ANN with GWO can optimise results. The output of this research can have a potential impact on the implementations of MQTT-powered networks globally, thereby improving the security of modern networks that use this protocol.

Abstract:
This report is going to investigate the possibility to save energy by converting a valve opening mechanism in a waste disposal system from a pneumatic system to an electric system. To power the system, which mainly consists of an electric actuator and a valve control module, a solar panel system was designed. The valve system was controlled by the lightweight messaging protocol MQTT. To be able to choose an electric actuator the needed force was measured and data regarding maximal stroke was taken from the data sheet of the existing setup. For developing an optimal solar panel system a program was written in Google Spreadsheet. The program takes input regarding power, cycles, solar panel system specifications and environmental factors. The output from the program is energy consumption for the system, specification for solar charger, solar panel setup and charge data. The result was that the solar panel system needed to consists of four 12 V VRLA batteries with a capacity of 90 Ah each and four solar panels with a rated power of 300 W each. The solar charger must be able to handle 900 W and provide an output current of 25,5 A to fulfil the demands. The new electric actuator will consume four times less energy than the old pneumatic actuator. Most of the energy savings are consequences of reduced energy consumption at idle of the system. A demonstarator was built to test the system.<br>Den här rapporten kommer att undersöka möjligheten att spara energi genom att konvertera ett ventilöppningsmekanism i ett avfallshanteringssystem från ett pneumatiskt system till ett elektriskt system. För att driva systemet, som främst består av en elektrisk aktuator och en ventil styrenhet, ska ett solcellssystem designas. Ventilsystemet ska styras med hjälp lättviktsmeddelandeprotokollet MQTT. För att kunna välja en aktuator mättes den behövda kraften och data angående maximal slaglängd togs från databladet på den nuvarande konstruktionen. För att utveckla ett optimalt solcellssystem skrevs ett program i Google Kalkylark. Programmet använder energi, cykler, solcellssystem och miljöfaktorer som indata. Som utdata ges energiförbrukning hos systemet, specifikation för solcellsregulator, solpaneler och laddningsdata. Resultatet var att det solcellssystem som behövs bestå av fyra 12 V VRLA batterier med en kapacitet på 90 Ah var och fyra solpaneler med en nominell effekt på 300 W vardera. Solcellssregulatorn behöver kunna hantera 900 W och generera en ström på 25,5 A. Den nya elektriska aktuatorn kommer förbruka fyra gånger så lite energi jämfört med den gamla pneumatiska aktuatorn. Den största delen av energibesparingarna är en konsekvens av minskad energiförbrukning av systemet i vila. En prototyp byggdes för att testa systemet.

Med ett ökande antal IoT enheter finns behov av energieffektiva metoder för överföring av data över långa avstånd. Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) är ett samlingsnamn för nätverkstekniker som utvecklats för att tillgodose dessa behov. LoRa som undersökt i detta arbete är en av dessa tekniker och arbetets syfte har varit att ta reda på hur olika typer av terränger påverkar överföringen med LoRa samt vilka möjligheter det finns för att förbättra överföringen då förhållandena inte är gynnsamma. Undersökningen har genomförts genom tester där nätverksutrusning ställts upp på utvalda platser för att göra mätningar på signalstyrka och paketförlust vid skogs- och stadsmiljö samt fri sikt. Parametrar som inverkar på signalstyrka och paketförlust har varierats vid ett av testen för undersökning vid ej gynnsamma förhållanden. Att kunna på ett lämpligt sätt samla in och presentera data från en IoT-applikation är en förutsättning för att kunna dra nytta av den informationen som applikationen ger. Ett SCADA system används inom många områden till detta ändamål och arbetet innefattar även en lösning för överföring från LoRa till WinCC som är ett SCADA system. Undersökningen av LoRa har visat att längst räckvidd med bäst signalstyrka och minst paketförlust fås vid fri sikt och den terräng som ger sämst resultat är skogsterräng. Den parameter som ger mest påverkan på signalstyrkan är bandbredden och parametern spridningsfaktor ger vid ökning ett mindre antal förlorade datapaket.<br>With an increasing number of IoT devices, there is a need for energy efficient methods for transferring data over long distances. The Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) is a collective name for network technologies developed to meet these needs. LoRa, which has been investigated in this work, is one of these techniques. The purpose of the investigation has been to find out how different types of terrain affect the transmission with LoRa and what opportunities there are to improve the transmission when the conditions are bad. The investigation has been carried out through tests where network equipment has been placed in selected locations to make measurements on signal strength and packet loss in forest and urban environments as well as free sight. Parameters that give an impact on signal strength and packet loss have been varied in one of the tests for investigation in the case of bad conditions. Being able to collect and present data from an IoT application is a condition to get any benefits form the information from the application. A SCADA is used in many areas for this purpose and the work also includes a solution for transmission of data from LoRa to WinCC which is a SCADA system. The investigation of LoRa has shown that the longest range with the best signal strength and with the minimum number of lost packages are obtained in clear sight and the terrain that produces the worst results is forest terrain. The parameter that has the most impact on signal strength is the bandwidth and the parameter spreading factor gives a smaller number of lost data packets when increasing.

Molte aziende nel mondo tengono traccia dei movimenti motivando la loro attività affermando che gli utenti stessi acconsentono a essere tracciati, i dati geolocalizzati memorizzati sono anonimi e al sicuro. È doveroso ricordare infatti che i dati sulla posizione contengono miliardi di punti senza informazioni identificabili come nomi o indirizzi e-mail; il problema in materia sussiste in quanto è stato dimostrato essere fattibile il collegamento di nomi reali ai punti che appaiono sulle mappe nel mondo. Si possono quindi ricordare dozzine di aziende che traggono profitto da tali dati ogni giorno in tutto il mondo, raccogliendoli direttamente dagli smartphone. Per questo motivo in questo progetto di tesi è stato affrontato il tema della privacy nella geolocalizzazione, proponendo un’estensione di un protocollo molto utilizzato in vari ambiti dell'Internet of Things (IoT): MQTT. Il protocollo è stato scelto per le sue ottime prestazioni in sensori e dispositivi nell'ambito dell'IoT, come lo stato dell'arte riportato conferma. Il focus nel mondo dell'IoT è avvenuto in seguito alla presenza continua di questi dispositivi in automobili, ambienti di lavoro, domestici e molti altri, rendendo così un’esigenza fondamentale la regolazione del trattamento dei dati di geolocalizzazione all'interno di questi sensori. Si è realizzato un meccanismo di abbonamento ad un servizio fornito in base ad un geofence precedentemente progettato da determinati utenti. Si rilevano l'entrata, l'uscita e la permanenza nei geofence stessi al fine di avvertire gli utenti con messaggi da loro preimpostati e con notifiche relative al servizio a cui si sono volontariamente abbonati.

Las plataformas IoT son sistemas solicitados por las empresas para unificar toda la labor de gestión y operativa relativa al IoT, sin embargo, las empresas para optar por un nuevo tipo de tecnología requieren de referencias de mercado como evaluaciones en ambientes de prueba, diseños validados o experiencias en la misma tecnología en otras empresas del mismo rubro. A pesar de esto, se carece de estas pruebas, evaluaciones y estándares en las plataformas IoT actuales del mercado por lo cual se dificulta su adopción. Es así, como la presente tesis tiene como objetivo realizar la prueba, evaluación y diseño del rendimiento de una plataforma IoT empleando software de código libre. Esto se realizará mediante la implementación de todos los componentes en un centro de datos de prueba y como resultado, se podrá contrastar el beneficio de las distintas plataformas IoT en cada escenario establecido. Dado que los escenarios propuestos son en base a plataformas IoT de terceros, se busca desarrollar un nuevo sistema que cubra las mismas capacidades, y por consiguiente, sea el inicio de futuros proyectos que se complementen con lo propuesto para las tecnologías IoT Finalmente, obtenido toda la información y capacidades respecto a las plataformas, se realizó un análisis exhaustivo del porqué de cada parámetro recibido y como estos pueden beneficiar a los requerimientos empresariales de todo tamaño. Node-RED is used as control software. The user interface is created by an extension "dashboard". For communication between elements using the MQTT protocol. The InfluxDB database is used for data storage. The Grafana tool is used to visualize historical data. The majority of the created system consists of open software. The system is universal, expandable and it is possible to connect it with another system. The system can be used or adapted to similar problems of advanced heating control.

Absolicon Solar Collector AB har börjat undersöka möjligheten att snabbt kunna kvalitetssäkrakoncentrerade paraboliska solfångare till sin nya drivlina. Detta genom att beräkna den geometriska formen på tråget utifrån kameror som förs övertråget och detekterar kanterna på det reflekterade receiverröret. Mätdata skickas sedan till en central dator över Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT)som sköter beräkningen av trågets geometriska form.Projektet har fått namnet ARGQOS som är en akronym för Absolicon Robotized GeometricalQuantification Ocular System. I projektet skulle åtta stycken identiska kamerahus designas, konstrueras och testas därkameran och datorn för kantdetektionen ska vara monterad. På kamerahuset ska det även finnas LED-belysningen för att kunna kommunicera sin driftstatustill operatören.Även mjukvaran behöver utvecklas för kantigenkännande algoritmer samt för kommunikationtill systemets centraldator över MQTT, där bland annat mätdata och viktig information kommerskickas. Tester har sedan gjorts för att utvärdera kamerahusets funktion där första testet bestod av att utvärdera hårdvaran på kamerahuset. Det andra testet som gjordes var att utvärdera mjukvaranoch ett testschema upprättades för att efterlikna en riktig mätning. Även kommunikationen medcentraldatorn via MQTT testades. I det tredje testet gjordes en riktig mätning av en parabolisk koncentrerade solfångare. Dettaför att se hur mycket av de reflekterade kanterna i solfångaren kunde detekteras samt hur brasolfångaren var genom att räkna ut om varje detekterad punkt träffade receiverröret eller inte. Det fjärde och sista testet som gjordes var för att validera om metoden fungerade genomatt först mäta en defekt solfångare med en laser och se vart den träffade och missadereceiverröret och sedan mäta den med systemet ARGQOS och jämföra resultaten. Testerna visar kamerahusen är väl fungerade i en industriell applikation och att programmetfungerar stabilt med få mindre buggar och mätningar på solfångare kan köras upprepadegånger utan problem. Kamerorna kunde detektera de reflekterade kanterna på nästan hela tråget med fåproblemområden. De visade också att mätningen var känsligt för yttre störningar som kom med i reflektorn påsolfångaren samt systemet är känslig för belysning. I valideringen med den defekta solfångaren kunde man se att lasern och ARGQOS visar sammasak men ytterligare tester behövs göras för att vara helt säker.<br>Absolicon Solar Collector AB has started to investigate the possibility to implement a quickquality insurance for concentrating parabolic solar collectors to their new power train. This will be done by calculating the geometrical shape on the trough by letting cameras move over the through and detect the edges on the reflected receiver pipe. Measure data will be sent to a central computer through Message Queuing Telemetry Transport(MQTT) that handles the calculation of the troughs geometrical shape. The project has been named ARGQOS and is an acronym for Absolicon Robotized GeometricalQuantification Ocular System. In the project eight identical camera houses should be designed, constructed and tested where the camera and the computer would be mounted. LED-lights should also be located on top of the camera house to communicate the operational status of the unit to the operator. The software also had to be developed for edge recognition algorithms, communication to the system central computer over MQTT, where measure data and other important information will be send. Tests has been made to determine the function of the camera house where the first test consisted of the evaluation of the hardware of the camera house for industrial usage. The second test that was made was the evaluation of the software and a test scheme was established to mimic a real measurement on a concentrated parabolic solar collector. Even the communication with the central computer trough MQTT was tested. In the third test a measurement was done to a real concentrating parabolic solar collector to see how well the reflected edges could be detected. Also the status of the solar collector by calculating if the detected points hit the receiver pipe or not. The fourth and final test that was made was to validate the method by first measure a defect parabolic solar collector with a laser to where the laser hit and missed the receiver pipe and then measure the same solar collector with the system ARGQOS and compare the results. The tests show that the camera houses have the intended function for industrial usage and that the program is working well and is stable with only a few minor bugs. Measurements on parabolic solar collectors can be done repeatedly without any problems. The cameras could detect the reflected edges on almost the whole trough with only a few problem areas. It also displayed that the measurement was sensitive to outer disturbances that was reflected in the trough and the system was sensitive to the ambient light. In the validation test the comparison between the measurement between the system and the laser displayed the same result. More tests need to be performed to be sure that the validation holds.

Cílem této práce je vytvořit komunikační sběrnici pro platformu Testos, což umožní nástrojům platformy spolu komunikovat a využívat navzájem svoje služby. V textu jsou prozkoum8na současná řešení a protokoly založené na modelu Publish-Subscribe. Dále také práce specifikuje požadavky na komunikační sběrnici vyhovující potřebám platformy Testos a také navrhuje řešení pro splnění daných požadavků.   V rámci výzkumu byly prozkoumány tři řešení - MQTT, DDS a AMQP. Průzkum každého řešení byl zaměřen na způsob komunikace a hlavní funkční prvky. Jako startovací bod implementace sběrnice byl vybrán protokol MQTT. Tato práce také specifikuje jak tento protokol rozšířit, aby byly splněny požadavky na sběrnici. Mezi stěžejní rozšíření navrhnuté v rámci této práce patří management životního cyklu požadavků rozšiřující způsob doručování zpráv a mechanismus zasílání požadavků standardu MQTT. Protokol byl také rozšířen o možnost shlukování zpráv do BULK paketu za účelem snížení množství potřebných síťových zdrojů. Výsledkem je Testos Bus, který je postavený na upraveném a rozšířeném protokolu MQTT, který zahrunuje implementaci brokeru a klientských knihoven pro Python a C++. Testos Bus naplňuje všechny povinné požadavky platformy, což ověřují automatické testy.

The work deals with the transfer of measured data using MQTT from a remote computer to the PLC and with the HMI to increase user comfort. The main priority of the work was to simplify the hardware and thus reduce the cost of the automated testbed.

Abstract:
More and more devices around us are connected to the internet and communicate to each other. This includes devices such as radon sensors. Radon is a radio active gas and is the cause of several hundred cases of lung cancer. Smart connected radon sensors can be helpful to reduce the levels of radon as they provide remote access to the user. This study examines the opportunity to connect an already existing radon sensor to the “Internet of Things”. The aim of this study has been to answer the problem “find a better solution for the IoT system and develop it”. The study was performed with a literature study of three Internet of Things platforms. This resulted in one Internet of Thing platform being used throughout the study. A database system and a system with the chosen platform was implemented and a time measurement of the different systems was performed. The study has shown that a less secured system is faster and it is also shown that the Amazon Web Service IoT Core is fast with respect to the many features offered. The study concludes that the choice of system depends on where and how the system is supposed to be implement. If the system just needs to send and store data, a regular MySQL database is enough. If the system in the future is supposed to be able to communicate with other devices, a IoT platform should be used.

Abstract:
Today at various locations and factories we have a lot of sensors and actuators that interact with each other and a control-unit. The control-unit is in most cases a cloud-based solution. This is in most cases a good solution. However, there is a rise in expected devices and sensors which will most likely be too much data for the existing network to handle. This paper researches if a fog-unit might be the solution to this problem. The setup of the fog-unit in the network is a unit between the cloud and the sensors and actuators. In this paper the fog-unit and sensors/actuators have been emulated on Raspberry Pi’s. The sensors are emulated using python-threads and communicate with the fog-unit using the UDP-based protocol CoAP and the fog communicates to the cloud using the TCP- based protocol MQTT. After a prototype was built it using said Raspberry Pi’s it was sent through a few measurements in the fields of bandwidth, cloud-utilization and response times. This was later compared to another setup without the fog-unit as the control setup. The result with this kind of setup was that a fog-unit lowers the cloud-utilization and use of bandwidth, however it increases the round trip time of a request from the cloud by a large amount. Which leads to the conclusion that a fog-unit in this kind of setup might be a good network solution if the response time to the cloud isn’t important.

Isto tem encorajado um aumento no interesse em IoT, devido às múltiplas aplicações nos mais variados contextos. Ainda assim sistemas de IoT enfrentam desafios tais como o suporte de altos volume de conexões ou a baixa capacidade de computação face a algoritmos para segurança dos dados. O objectivo desta dissertação é criar um sistema de recolha de dados de sensor de qualidade do ar que resolva esses desafios usando tecnologias de estado de arte, dando preferência a ferramentas de código aberto. O sistema foi implementado em volta Apache Kafka, com Spring Boot e VerneMQ responsáveis por receber dados e PostgreSQL, com plugin Timescale, encarregue de os guardar. Um protótipo do sistema foi implementado usando contentores Docker, mas não foi possível organiza-los com Kubernetes; Abstract: Cloud-based system for IoT data acquisition The purpose of IoT is to bring the physical world into a digital one and allowing it to be controlled and monitored from a virtual standpoint. The interest in IoT has increased due to its many applications in various fields, but IoT systems still deal with challenges such as the support of a high volume of connections or the low processing capacity of devices faced with data security algorithms. The objective of this dissertation is to create a data collection for air quality sensors system, that solves those challenges based on state of the art technologies, giving preference to open-source tools. Implementation was done around Apache Kafka, with Spring Boot and VerneMQ receiving data, HMAC granting a level security on data transport and PostgreSQL with the plugin Timescale storing the data. A prototype of the system was implemented in Docker containers, but we were unable to orchestrate them through Kubernetes.

The main goal of this diploma thesis is to investigate the smart cars field together with the technologies linked closely to it. Further, the thesis offers an overview of options to extend the vehicle capabilities with the car computer created with the Raspberry Pi Zero W. The thesis provides hands-on experience and is stuctured into two parts. The first, theoretical section focuses on Internet of Things and Machine to Machine communication. It also describes the currently available smart car solutions on the market, their pros and cons. The practical part of this thesis describes design and creation of a smart computer based on Raspberry Pi Zero W with draft of self-made security system from vehicle containing a motion sensor and a camera. It also includes a development and integration steps with a mobile application capable of viewing the static information regarding the car state, such as Rotations per minute. Vehicle speed, etc. The created system also has the capability of informing the user about it's current location on request.

This diploma thesis deals with the creation of a general communication interface between the smart product and process cells within test bed Barman. The aim is to create distributed production according to the Industry 4.0 concept, where each product manages it’s production itself. The first part deals with the analysis of test bed, where are discussed requirements and method of production. Then with the selection of a communication protocol that would meet Industry 4.0 and distributed control requirements. The result of the research was OPC UA communication protocol. Using this protocol, the product and the process cell will communicate with each other. I chose the appropriate implementation for the selected protocol to be used for creating communication modules of the product and the process cell. Production data will be stored in an RFID chip located in the product. Part of the work is devoted to creation this data structure, which contains the recipe as well as production state data. Creation of RFID reader is the work of another student, with whom I solved the method of data exchange between application of the reader and the communication module of the product. When creating a communication module of the process cell, I solved the design of an information model that describes the entire process cell, and the dynamic creation of nodes in the address space. I have mentioned a few examples of how I worked with a selected implementation of OPC UA and how I used it in both applications. I implemented decentralized search of another process cells in the local network. This feature was easy to implement with OPC UA, specifically with the LDS-ME service. I solved the control of production for the communication module of the product and method of communication with the process cell. And in the last part I deal with manual, which describes how to compile projects correctly, specifically on the Linux operating system, and I have described a way to test the whole solution together with the results.

Immense amounts of water are wasted daily, and it is as important as ever to optimize our water consumption, especially considering that today around 850 million people lack access to clean water. With the rise of the Internet of Things, creating a monitoring system for this purpose becomes easier, but there arises a problem of interfacing water meters to IoT capable devices.In this thesis a framework for IoT smart water monitoring is presented. Both short range and long range communication techniques are shown, compared and discussed. Similarly, different smart water meters and their characteristics are compared.The main goal of this thesis was to implement an interface between a sensor node and the water meter, ensuring the transmission of data in an easy way. To achieve this goal, a M-Bus library integrated into Contiki-OS is presented, thereby showing that it is possible to interface a water meter with a sensor node. The implemented library is capable of changing some of the configurations of the water meter, receiving data from the water meter, as well as forwarding the data via MQTT or CoAP protocols for further processing on the server side.<br>Stora mängder vatten slösas dagligen och det är viktigt nu att vi optimerar vattenförbrukningen, särskilt med tanke på att cirka 850 miljoner människor idag saknar tillgång till rent vatten. Med uppkomst av Sakernas Internet blir det lättare att skapa ett övervakningssystem för detta ändamål, men det finns fortfarande problem med att ansluta vattenmätare till IoT-kompatibla enheter.I detta arbete presenteras ett ramverk för smart vattenmätning med IoT. Både kortdistansoch långdistanskommunikationsteknik presenteras, jämförs och diskuteras. På samma sätt jämförs olika smarta vattenmätare och deras egenskaper.Huvudsyftet med denna arbetet var att implementera ett gränssnitt mellan en sensornod och vattenmätare, vilket säkerställer överföring av data på ett enkelt sätt. För att uppnå detta mål presenteras ett M-Bus-bibliotek integrerat i ContikiOS, vilket visar att det är möjligt att koppla en vattenmätare till en sensornod. Det implementerade biblioteket kan ändra delar av vattenmätarens konfigurering, ta emot data från vattenmätaren, samt vidarebefordra data via MQTT eller CoAP för vidare bearbetning hos servern.

Le aziende manufatturiere affrontano costantemente problemi di ottimizzazione dei processi di logistica per cercare di ottenere sempre di più dalle loro macchine e dai loro processi produttivi utilizzando la tecnologia disponibile. Uno di questi problemi di ottimizzazione `e sicuramente la logistica per la gestione del magazzino, quindi come utilizzare lo spazio del magazzino efficientemente e allo stesso tempo ottenere l’instradamento ottimo dei veicoli che trasportano i prodotti nelle varie fasi di lavorazione. L’obiettivo di questa tesi `e di cercare i diversi approcci usati in letteratura e sulla base di questi migliorare il routing delle macchine e l’assegnazione delle risorse in uno scenario reale. Un algoritmo di routing `e stato modificato e migliorato per il caso specifico con una euristica di assegnazione delle risorse che meglio gestisce l’uso del magazzino e dei veicoli. In aggiunta a ci`o sono stati analizzati diversi metodi di comunicazione fra l’algoritmo e il software di simulazione usato per il testing. In particolare diversi protocolli per comunicazione macchina-macchina sono stati esaminati per vedere quale sarebbe la scelta migliore una volta che il software sar`a implementato in un ambiente di produzione reale.

In the industry there is a need for a more efficient way to troubleshoot machines that uses the protocol EtherNet/IP. The current methods is time consuming and complex. This project gather data from a simulated network and analyze the data. The result of the analyze is presented on a cellphone application with a description and a possible solution. The application is a cross-platform application developed with Cordova. The simulated network is created on a Raspberry Pi 2. The analyze is done on another Raspberry Pi 2 running the software Node-RED. Communication between the simulated network Raspberry and the cellphone is with Bluetooth Low Energy. Communication between cellphone and the server is with MQTT. There are several areas where this kind of application may suit. This project is in one specific area – troubleshooting EtherNet/IP.

Many industries are now moving several of their processes into the cloud computing sphere. One important process is to collect machine data in an effective way. Moving signal collection processes to the cloud instead of on premise raises many questions about performance, scalability, security and cost.This thesis focuses on some of the market leading and cutting edge protocols appropriate for industrial production data collection. It investigates and compares the pros and cons of the protocols with respect to the demands of industrial systems. The thesis also presents examples of how the protocols can be used to collect data all the way to a higher-level system such as ERP or MES.The protocols focused on are MQTT and AMQP (in OPC-UA). The possibilities of OPC-UA in cloud computing is of extra interest to investigate in this thesis due to its increasing usage and development.

A current challenge in the Internet of Things is the seeking after conceptual structures to connect the presumably billions of devices of innumerable forms and capabilities. An emerging architectural concept, the fog cloud computing, moves the seemingly unlimited computational power of the distant cloud to the edge of the network, closer to the potentially computationally limited things, effectively diminishing the experienced latency. To allow computationally-constrained devices partaking in the network they have to be relieved from the burden of constant availability and extensive computational execution. Establishing a publish/subscribe communication pattern with the utilization of the popular Internet of Things application layer protocol Constrained Application Protocol is depicted one approach of overcoming this issue. In this project, a Java based library to establish a publish/subscribe communication pattern for the Constrained Application Protocol was develop. Furthermore, efforts to build and assess prototypes of several publish/subscribe application layer protocols executed over varying common as well as secured versions of the standard and non-standard transport layer protocols were made to take advantage, evaluate, and compare the developed library. The results indicate that the standard protocol stacks represent solid candidates yet one non-standard protocol stack is the considered prime candidate which still maintains a low response time while not adding a significant amount of communication overhead.

In the first part there is description of topologies a communication protocols used for wireless automation. Further there are characterized some devices for lighting, heating, ventilation and cooling regulation. These are used for a model network of a building management, where is system OpenHAB also presented. In the next chapter is aprissed specific edifice and its typical operation where is also designed basic and extended solution for it. This part continues with computation of energy consumption in TRNSYS software, that are used to calculate economic return for both variants.

Il mantenimento dell’ambiente e delle strutture edilizie è un compito all’apparenza banale la cui buona riuscita non è tuttavia da dare scontata. I sensori (di posizionamento, vibrazioni, accelerazioni, temperatura, pressione, umidità, nebbia, visibilità e alti…. ) utilizzati sono in grande maggioranza semplici e di bassa potenza/ bassa larghezza di banda e mandano dei messaggi che devono essere ricevuti e trattati in tempo reale. Visto che i tempi di rilevamento, localizzazione, valutazione della gravità e segnalazione del danno saranno molto rapidi, il monitoraggio e l’efficienza saranno di ottima qualità. “Dal 2019 in Italia è obbligatorio per tutte le opere pubbliche con un importo a partire da 100Ml di euro di dotarle di sensori/attuatori immessi direttamente nelle strutture oppure su elementi già esistenti ovvero il concetto di SMS(smart Material/Structture)” . Ma non solo il campo dell’edilizia è coinvolto a questi cambiamenti rivoluzionari, sono coinvolti tutti i campi e discipline che esistono. Infatti è quasi impossibile pensare a un mondo di domani senza la componente smart (smart device, smart auto, smart house, smart ospedale….). Quindi questo concetto apre una porta a un mondo totalmente unito e interconnesso. Ma di grande importanza apre un mondo che da libero spazio alla creatività per un mondo più semplice e più piacevole. In questa tesi abbiamo realizzato un sistema costituito da un sensore(che puo essere messo in un ambiente /edificio per il monitoraggio), un raspberry pi3, un database , un MQTT e un programma in C Sharp scritto su Visual Studio. Con l’obbiettivo di raccogliere i datti provenienti dal sensore e stoccarli sul database in modo semplice e rapido con uso di bassa larghezza di banda e bassa potenza del sistema intero. E poi abbiamo ottimizzato il sistema.

La tesi tratta lo sviluppo di un prototipo di sistema di monitoraggio di arnie urbane da apicoltura tramite l’utilizzo di dispositivi a basso costo. Il progetto è stato realizzato nell'ambito di un tirocinio per tesi presso ACME21 S.R.L., startup con sede a Faenza e produttrice delle arnie interessate. Lo scopo finale del lavoro è quello di disegnare un’architettura in cui implementare agevolmente, come sviluppo futuro, algoritmi di machine learning per l’analisi dello stato di salute delle api. Il sistema si compone di diverse parti: in primo luogo un modulo ESP8266 effettua rilevazioni periodiche di temperatura, umidità e frequenze audio per poi trasmettere i dati raccolti tramite protocollo MQTT attraverso una connessione Wi-Fi; i dati sono successivamente letti e memorizzati su un server remoto, che espone una REST API per la consultazione e gestione di quest’ultimi; un pannello di controllo realizzato con tecnologie web ne permette la consultazione a livello grafico. Il prototipo realizzato si è rivelato robusto e in grado di osservare cambiamenti significativi ai parametri ambientali, senza tuttavia esibire al momento una precisione elevata. Secondo le analisi effettuate il risultato ottenuto è comunque consono agli obiettivi preposti.

To date, the propagation of technology has reached almost everybody on our planet. Smartphones are so widespread that they are more than the number of humans. This means that almost everyone has a small computer in his pocket. Furthermore, automation pervades our lives increasingly as the days go by. We have smart cars, smart traffic lights, smart tools and any other smart thing one can think about. Among all these smart things, one of the most appreciated by mankind is the smart house. A pleasing environment where you do not have to move from the sofa to turn off the light or check your fridge or play some music on your stereo. You can do everything with just a few touches on your phone. The drawback of all these comforts is that you need a different application for each smart component or you need to buy from a single vendor. We want to address this issue by giving a common access point for a smart house in its entirety. One of the most common application types installed on smartphones is the chat application. We want to create a chatbot that lets the user control every component of their house from a single application. This is not our only goal. We also want to extend our system to read sensor information yielded by city sensors. This lets you know, for example, the temperature of a specific city in real time or it can show you free parking in a specific area. The only limit is the distribution of sensors in the environment. We design a scalable, extensible and secure system to handle both the sensor reading and the smart house control. All this is achieved with just a chatbot and no other burdensome applications. The contribution of this thesis is three-folded: first, we analyze the application domain in order to identify the main components of the system. We then design and implement the system as a container for other sub-systems. Finally, we design and implement the connection layer between all the sub-systems.

Okrem backendového riešenia sa práca zameriava aj na vytvorenie WordPress pluginu pomocou React.js na zobrazovanie údajov poskytnutých backendovým API koncovému používateľovi. Tento plugin zároveň umožňuje správcovi WordPress serveru umiestniť komponent používateľského rozhrania Service discovery na stránku s obsahom podľa výberu správcu.

Fallolyckor bland äldre är ett stort folkhälsoproblem. Således har det utvecklats en rad olika system för fjärrövervakning av äldre för att möjliggöra en tidig detekte- ring av fallolyckor. Majoriteten av de forskningar som hittills har gjorts inom fallo- lyckor har fokuserat på att utveckla nya mer framgångsrika algoritmer just för att identifiera fall från icke-fall. Trots det visar statistiken att dödsfall och skador orsa- kade av fallolyckor ökar för varje år i samband med den ökande andel äldre perso- ner i befolkningen. Detta examensarbete handlar om att förbättra nuvarande falldetekteringsanord- ningar genom att täcka de brister och tillgodose de behov som finns i nuvarande tekniker. De förbättringar som har kartlagts är att kunna ge en säkrare bedömning av patientens hälsa och kunna påkalla snabbare hjälpinsats när en fallolycka har inträffat. Sammanfattningsvis kan det konstateras att ett multisensorsystem i form av en prototyp har konstruerats för att täcka de brister som har kartlagts. Utöver att pro- totypen detekterar fall och kroppsrörelser med hjälp av en accelerometersensor innehåller den även en sensor för detektering av livstecken i from av EKG. Den in- nehåller dessutom cellulära och trådlösa nätverksanslutningar i form av GPRS och Wi-Fi för att möjliggöra rörelsefriheten hos äldre. Vidare innehåller prototypen en sensor för GPS som ger information om platsposition.<br>Accidental falls among the elderly is a major public health problem. As a result, a variety of systems have been developed for remote monitoring of the elderly to permit early detection of falls. The majority of the research that has been done so far in fall accidents has focused on developing new more successful algorithms spe- cifically to identify fall from non-fall. Although the statistics show that mortality and injuries caused by falls are increasing every year in conjunction with the in- creasing proportion of older people in the population. This thesis is about improving the current fall detection devices by covering the gaps and meet the needs of the current fall detection techniques. The improve- ments that have been identified is to provide a secure assessment of the patient's health and be able to call for aid more quickly when a fall occurs. Another im- provement is the mobility for the elderly to be outdoors and have the ability to per- form daily activities without being limited by the location position. In summary it can be said that a multisensor system in form of a prototype has been designed to cover the deficiencies and improvements that have been identi- fied. Apart from detection of falls and body movements through an accelerometer sensor the prototype does also include a sensor for detecting vital signs in form of ECG. It also supports cellular and wireless network communication in form of GPRS and Wi-Fi to enable freedom of movement for the elderly. Furthermore, the prototype includes a sensor for GPS that provides information about location position.

Device connessi come termostati intelligenti e sistemi d’illuminazione automatica stanno entrando nelle case, ma un’altra grande opportunità per l’Internet of Things si trova all’aperto, nel settore agricolo. L’obiettivo di questo lavoro di tesi è studiare il modo migliore di implementare l’infrastruttura di comunicazione Machine-to-Machine (M2M) per il progetto Agri-Eagle sviluppato alla VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. In particolare, questo lavoro si focalizza sulla comunicazione M2M che segue il modello publish/subscribe, e l’obiettivo è analizzare come Smart-M3 e MQTT con JSON-LD sono in grado di soddisfare i requisiti del sistema Agri-Eagle. Per valutare la fattibilità di questi due soluzioni, sono state fatte implementazioni di riferimento dell'infrastruttura di comunicazione M2M con entrambe le tecnologie. Queste implementazioni di riferimento sono state poi valutate nelle seguenti aree: prestazioni e scalabilità, facilità di sviluppo e progettazione sforzi, l'interoperabilità, espressività ed estensibilità. Grazie all’implementazione in due fasi differenti, basate sui differenti requisiti del progetto, e l'analisi e test degli aspetti sopra citati, l'autore è stato in grado di capire che sia Smart-M3 e MQTT con JSON-LD soddisfano i requisiti del progetto.

Abstract:
This work deals with connecting remote devices measure data of various types from physical quantities such as a temperature, a humidity to data displaying CPU or memory usage of the system to the user. The system uses Blockly to controlling logic and dependencies between devices. In the work is used lots of technologies for examples: MQTT, Websockets, GSM, Lightweight Mesh and others. The system is based on microservice which named is Flask. Flask service is an application interface for HTTP services of Python programming language. This can provide measured data by graphs and predefined components for viewing data. For controlling system was used single-board computer Raspberry Pi with a multitouch 7-inch display.

The aim of the diploma thesis is to study the possibilities of creating a monitoring system for older production facilities already in operation. Select the necessary components for the nature of the equipment to create a system that is able to capture and provide information about activities on the equipment. The second goal is to design a suitable communication model for clear information about the operation, sending and storing data. The third goal is to analyze the dual-core ESP32 microprocessor against its predecessors in the role of system control unit.
