Abstract:
This paper attempts to present a solution that allows the users to scan the remote host machine on a network and to assess IPv6 enablement for MS-SQL. It aims to detect the hardware and the software installed on that machine. This goal is achieved by the use of Windows Application Programming Interface (API) through Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Scripts which handles the registry. WMI Scripts are used to connect to the registry of a remote host machine that reads the installed path of the software and hardware details of that machine. First, it will detect the underlying Operating System whether it can support IPv6 or not. If the underlying operating system can support IPv6, then only applications running on it can run on IPv6 enabled network. So for this the system also assesses the IPv6 enablement of MS-SQL Server.

Abstract:
Comparison of efficiency is not a trivial phenomenon because of disparities between different database systems. This paper presents a methodology of comparing relational database systems in respect of mean time of execution individual DML queries containing subqueries and conjunction of tables. The presented methodology can be additionally accommodated to studies of efficiency in a range of database system itself (study of queries executed directly in database engine). The described methodology allows to receive statement telling which database system is better in comparison to another in dependency of functionalities fulfilled by external application. In the article the analysis of mean time of execution individual DML queries was performed. Two research hypotheses have been put forward: "Microsoft SQL Server database system needs less time to execute INSERT and UPDATE queries than Oracle database" and "Oracle database system needs less time to execute DML queries with binary data than SQL Server"

Abstract:

This master’s thesis was performed at PartnerTech AB in Åtvidaberg. It addresses the problem of managing test results obtained from testing electronics manufactured by PartnerTech. PartnerTech has developed a test system, called Tor, which performs tests on manufactured boards and stores the test results in files. The Tor system consists of both hardware and software part, where the software runs on an ordinary PC with MS DOS/Windows 2000. The effects on the existing Tor system that this thesis implies are minimal.

This work focuses on a way of storing the produced test files in a database. In this work a data model has been developed, implemented, and evaluated together with a system that imports test files into the database and a graphical user interface that allows a user to easily search and browse the stored test results. It is also possible to print test reports from the Tor system. For implementing the database system Microsoft SQL Server 2000 was chosen as database server and an XML based data format was chosen to import and export data to and from the database. Two alternative graphical user interface applications were developed and compared - one server based on Microsoft IIS and one client based in Microsoft Access. For advanced data manipulation certain parts of the system were developed in Microsoft Excel.

Abstract:
The mission of the Transmutation Research Program (TRP) at University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is to establish a nuclear engineering test bed that can carry out effective transmutation and advanced reactor research and development effort. Chemical Engineering Division, Argonne National Laboratories (ANL) is in charge the design, modeling, and demonstration of countercurrent solvent-extraction process for treating high-level liquid waste, such as U and Tc. The Nevada Center for Advanced Computational Methods (NCACM) at UNLV is developing a systems engineering model that provides process optimization through the automatic adjustment on input parameters, such as feed compositions, stages, flow rates, etc., based on the extraction efficiency of components and concerned output factors. An object-oriented programming (OOP) is considered. Previously designed Microsoft (MS) Excel macro-based program, Argonne Model for Universal Solvent Extraction (AMUSE) code, based on firm understanding of the chemistry and thermodynamics, is the core module for Uranium Extraction process (UREX). Currently AMUSE is the only available module. The Transmutation Research Program System Engineering Model Project (TRPSEMPro) consists of task manager, task integration and solution/monitor modules. A MS SQL server database is implemented for managing large data flow from optimization processing. Task manager coordinates and interacts with other two modules. Task integration module works as a flowsheet constructor that builds task hierarchy, input parameter values and constrains. Task solution/monitor component presents both final and in-progress outputs in tabular and graphical formats. The package also provides a multiple-run process that executes a design matrix without invoking the optimization module. Experimental reports can be generated through database query and formatting.

Abstract:
Aim/Purpose: [This Proceedings paper was revised and published in the 2018 issue of the journal Issues in Informing Science and Information Technology, Volume 15] This paper investigates the new technical skills that are needed for Data Engineering. Past research is compared to new research which creates a list of the 20 top tech-nical skills required by a Data Engineer. The growing availability of Data Engineering jobs is discussed. The research methodology describes the gathering of sample data and then the use of Pig and MapReduce on AWS (Amazon Web Services) to count occurrences of Data Engineering technical skills from 100 Indeed.com job advertisements in July, 2017. Background: A decade ago, Data Engineering relied heavily on the technology of Relational Database Management Sys-tems (RDBMS). For example, Grisham, P., Krasner, H., and Perry D. (2006) described an Empirical Soft-ware Engineering Lab (ESEL) that introduced Relational Database concepts to students with hands-on learning that they called “Data Engineering Education with Real-World Projects.” However, as seismic im-provements occurred for the processing of large distributed datasets, big data analytics has moved into the forefront of the IT industry. As a result, the definition for Data Engineering has broadened and evolved to include newer technology that supports the distributed processing of very large amounts of data (e.g. Hadoop Ecosystem and NoSQL Databases). This paper examines the technical skills that are needed to work as a Data Engineer in today’s rapidly changing technical environment. Research is presented that re-views 100 job postings for Data Engineers from Indeed (2017) during the month of July, 2017 and then ranks the technical skills in order of importance. The results are compared to earlier research by Stitch (2016) that ranked the top technical skills for Data Engineers in 2016 using LinkedIn to survey 6,500 peo-ple that identified themselves as Data Engineers. Methodology: A sample of 100 Data Engineering job postings were collected and analyzed from Indeed during July, 2017. The job postings were pasted into a text file and then related words were grouped together to make phrases. For example, the word “data” was put into context with other related words to form phrases such as “Big Data”, “Data Architecture” and “Data Engineering”. A text editor was used for this task and the find/replace functionality of the text editor proved to be very useful for this project. After making phrases, the large text file was uploaded to the Amazon cloud (AWS) and a Pig batch job using Map Reduce was leveraged to count the occurrence of phrases and words within the text file. The resulting phrases/words with occurrence counts was download to a Personal Computer (PC) and then was loaded into an Excel spreadsheet. Using a spreadsheet enabled the phrases/words to be sorted by oc-currence count and then facilitated the filtering out of irrelevant words. Another task to prepare the data involved the combination phrases or words that were synonymous. For example, the occurrence count for the acronym ELT and the occurrence count for the acronym ETL were added together to make an overall ELT/ETL occurrence count. ETL is a Data Warehousing acronym for Extracting, Transforming and Loading data. This task required knowledge of the subject area. Also, some words were counted in lower case and then the same word was also counted in mixed or upper case, thus producing two or three occur-rence counts for the same word. These different counts were added together to make an overall occur-rence count for the word (e.g. word occurrence counts for Python and python were added together). Fi-nally, the Indeed occurrence counts were sorted to allow for the identification of a list of the top 20 tech-nical skills needed by a Data Engineer. Contribution: Provides new information about the Technical Skills needed by Data Engineers. Findings: Twelve of the 20 Stitch (2016) report phrases/words that are highlighted in bold above matched the tech-nical skills mentioned in the Indeed research. I considered C, C++ and Java a match to the broader cate-gory of Programing in the Indeed data. Although the ranked order of the two lists did not match, the top five ranked technical skills for both lists are similar. The reader of this paper might consider the skills of SQL, Python, Hadoop/HDFS to be very important technical skills for a Data Engineer. Although the programming language R is very popular with Data Scientists, it did not make the top 20 skills for Data Engineering; it was in the overall list from Indeed. The R programming language is oriented towards ana-lytical processing (e.g. used by Data Scientists), whereas the Python language is a scripting and object-oriented language that facilitates the creation of Data Pipelines (e.g. used by Data Engineers). Because the data was collected one year apart and from very different data sources, the timing of the data collection and the different data sources could account for some of the differences in the ranked lists. It is worth noting that the Indeed research ranked list introduced the technical skills of Design Skills, Spark, AWS (Amazon Web Services), Data Modeling, Kafta, Scala, Cloud Computing, Data Pipelines, APIs and AWS Redshift Data Warehousing to the top 20 ranked technical skills list. The Stitch (2016) report that did not have matches to the Indeed (2017) sample data for Linux, Databases, MySQL, Business Intelligence, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Data Analysis and Unix. Although many of these Stitch top 20 technical skills were on the Indeed list, they did not make the top 20 ranked technical skills. Recommendations for Practitioners: Some of the skills needed for Database Technologies are transferable to Data Engineering. Recommendation for Researchers: None Impact on Society: There is not much peer reviewed literature on the subject of Data Engineering, this paper will add new information to the subject area. Future Research: I'm developing a Specialization in Data Engineering for the MS in Data Science degree at our university.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper poses and solves the problem of using artificial intelligence methods for processing big volumes of geodata from geological and technological measurement stations in order to identify and predict complications during well drilling. Big volumes of geodata from the stations of geological and technological measurements during drilling varied from units to tens of terabytes. Digital modernization of the life cycle of well construction using machine learning methods contributes to improving the efficiency of drilling oil and gas wells. The clustering of big volumes of geodata from various sources and types of sensors used to measure parameters during drilling has been carried out. In the process of creating, training and applying software components with artificial neural networks, the specified accuracy of calculations was achieved, hidden and non-obvious patterns were revealed in big volumes of geological, geophysical, technical and technological parameters. To predict the operational results of drilling wells, classification models were developed using artificial intelligence methods. The use of a high-performance computing cluster significantly reduced the time spent on assessing the probability of complications and predicting these probabilities for 7-10 minutes ahead. A hierarchical distributed data warehouse has been formed, containing real-time drilling data in WITSML format using the SQL server (Microsoft). The module for preprocessing and uploading geodata to the WITSML repository uses the Energistics Standards DevKit API and Energistic data objects to work with geodata in the WITSML format. Drilling problems forecast accuracy which has been reached with developed system may significantly reduce non-productive time spent on eliminating of stuck pipe, mud loss and oil and gas influx events.

Abstract:
Weighing and blending process is an important step of industrial and agricultural production. Traditionally, the simplest way of weighing and blending is to weigh the variety of raw materials manually and mix them together. There are some disadvantages of this method, such as measuring inaccurate, low productivity and labor-intensive. The comparatively advanced method is making use of the computer control technology to realize automatic weighing and blending according to predetermined formula. According to the production characteristics and technological requirements of a certain chemical product, an integrated control system of weighing and blending for liquid raw material based on DCS (Distributed Control System) is developed in this paper. The system is composed of IPC (Industrial Personal Computer), ADAM data acquisition modules, weighing sensor and execution unit. The 485 bus is adopted to transmit data between the different equipments. With the support of SQL Server 2000, the process control and production management of weighing and blending are realized with C++ builder 6.0. The integrated system can be divided into three subsystems, namely, the process control subsystem, the production monitoring subsystem and the production information management subsystem. The application result indicates that this system improves the production efficiency and stabilizes the production process.
