Abstract:
To realize online automatic measuring of total sugar content in chlortetracycline fermenter, we developed an online automatic measuring system based on MSP430 microcomputer. We designed the automatic sampling, filtering and washing of fermented liquid by controlling the I/O of MSP430 and the relay. The data of total sugar content was sampled and processed by MSP430. The data of total sugar content can display clearly and easily on host computer with the RS232 serial port connection between MSP430 and host computer. The software of this system was programed with C language based on IAR for MSP430 environment. The experiment results show that the online automatic measuring system of total sugar content in chlortetracycline fermenter can be met the demand of practical application.

Abstract:
In order to achieve the automatic measurement of the total sugar content in Chlortetracycline fermentation kettle, MSP430 is designed as the hard core of the automatic measurement system. Based on MSP430 MCU, opening and closing valves of the automatic measurement system can be controlled, and the total sugar content can be acquired by measuring dope from filter. Wind turbine and valves of automatic measuring system are controlled in order to prepare for the next measurement of total sugar content. MSP430 software environment is developed using C language, and upper computer display system is developed using LabVIEW. The system motion state can be observed through the upper computer system. MSP430 can be connected upper computer through the RS232 protocol for data communications. Experimental results show that the automatic measurement system can meet the requirements of the actual application.

Abstract:
This paper designs the hardware and software interface of the 1-Wire slave device based on MSP430 MCU. It gives the hardware circuit schematic and the software flow, describes the working principle. The design of hardware is very easy to use and the costs are low because the hardware of the 1-Wire bus slave device includes a MSP430 MCU and some ordinary components only. The software is easy to program and expends its function so for different purposes. By this design, the scope of application of 1-Wire bus is expended. The device has none interface of 1-Wire bus can communicate with MSP430 first and then communicate with master by the simulative 1-Wire bus slave device interface based on MSP430. If system has used 1-Wire device, using this design could reduce the complexity because need not use other information protocol.

Abstract:
In this paper, we propose the first ARIA block cipher on both MSP430 and Advanced RISC Machines (ARM) microcontrollers. To achieve the optimized ARIA implementation on target embedded processors, core operations of ARIA, such as substitute and diffusion layers, are carefully re-designed for both MSP430 (Texas Instruments, Dallas, TX, USA) and ARM Cortex-M3 microcontrollers (STMicroelectronics, Geneva, Switzerland). In particular, two bytes of input data in ARIA block cipher are concatenated to re-construct the 16-bit wise word. The 16-bit word-wise operation is executed at once with the 16-bit instruction to improve the performance for the 16-bit MSP430 microcontroller. This approach also optimizes the number of required registers, memory accesses, and operations to half numbers rather than 8-bit word wise implementations. For the ARM Cortex-M3 microcontroller, the 8×32 look-up table based ARIA block cipher implementation is further optimized with the novel memory access. The memory access is finely scheduled to fully utilize the 3-stage pipeline architecture of ARM Cortex-M3 microcontrollers. Furthermore, the counter (CTR) mode of operation is more optimized through pre-computation techniques than the electronic code book (ECB) mode of operation. Finally, proposed ARIA implementations on both low-end target microcontrollers (MSP430 and ARM Cortex-M3) achieved (209 and 96 for 128-bit security level, respectively), (241 and 111 for 192-bit security level, respectively), and (274 and 126 for 256-bit security level, respectively). Compared with previous works, the running timing on low-end target microcontrollers (MSP430 and ARM Cortex-M3) is improved by (92.20% and 10.09% for 128-bit security level, respectively), (92.26% and 10.87% for 192-bit security level, respectively), and (92.28% and 10.62% for 256-bit security level, respectively). The proposed ARIA–CTR implementation improved the performance by 6.6% and 4.0% compared to the proposed ARIA–ECB implementations for MSP430 and ARM Cortex-M3 microcontrollers, respectively.

The linear array CCD spectral acquisition system for a Photoelectric Direct Reading Spectrometer is presented. The spectral acquisition circuit, data processing and shortage circuit are designed. Taking microcontroller MSP430 as a control chip, Using PWM signals generated by MSP430 timer, the correct timing of CCD clock pulse, ADC clock and FIFO write enable signal was established. The experiment shows that the synchronization of spectral acquisition, data conversion and shortage was achieved, and the spectral acquisition system is feasible and reliability.

We introduce the high smart pressure sensor’s hardware-circuit design which based on Ultra-Low Power MSP430 MCU, analyze the BP network algorithm in temperature compensation to deal with the pressure sensor’s temperature drift, and collect pressure sensor’s temperature and pressure signals by MCU for offline training in BP network. The result shows that the MSP430 MCU can reduce system power and its rich exterior equipments can reduce the size of pressure sensor, the accuracy is improved by BP network algorithm, zero drift and time drift are best controlled.

As the resonance frequency of the ultrasonic vibration system drifts according to the different operating condition, Ultrasonic power supply based on MSP430 is designed in this thesis. Series inductance and parallel capacitance are used to match the vibration system and series resonance technology used in primary side of inverter transformer can reduce switch loss. ADC module in MSP430 is used to get frequency shift, and PWM module is made to adjust the operating frequency of TL494, which can realize closed loop control of frequency tracking. The results of experiments show that the method designed in this thesis has high detection accuracy, high speed dynamic response and high stability of frequency tracking.

In this paper, a new portable digital instrument is developed to measure the frequency, rms voltage, rms current and harmonic of power grid. Three phase voltage and current are sensed with precise transformer and then processed by signal conditioning unit before sampling. Synchronous AC sampling technique is introduced to avoid leakage effect of FFT. Consequently, frequency estimation, rms measurement and harmonic estimation are achieved based on MSP430. The experiment results indicate that this analyzer provides accurate frequency estimates with error in the range of 0.001Hz and amplitude estimates with error in the range of 0.1%, which can meet the need of offline application.

We express the suited network module by C language program, and analyze the software-implemented method. The result shows that the MSP430 MCU can reduce system power and its rich exterior equipments can reduce the size of pressure sensor, the training of BP network by use of digital A/D value of MCU conversion reduces the error, the pressure sensor’s precision is improved by BP network, the precision is 0.1%.

Abstract:
As wireless sensor networks (WSNs) become more widespread, potential attacks against them also increase and applying cryptography becomes inevitable to make secure WSN nodes. WSN nodes typically contain only a constrained microcontroller, such as MSP430, Atmega, etc., and running public key cryptography on these constrained devices is considered a challenge. Since WSN nodes are spread around in the field, the distribution of the shared private key, which is used in a symmetric key cryptographic algorithm for securing communications, is a problem. Thus, it is necessary to use public key cryptography to effectively solve the key distribution problem. The RSA cryptosystem, which requires at least a 1024-bit key, is the most widely used public key cryptographic algorithm. However, its large key size is considered a drawback for resource constrained microcontrollers. On the other hand, RSA allows for extremely fast digital signature generation which may make it desirable in applications where messages transmitted by sensor nodes need to be authenticated. Furthermore, for compatibility with an existing communication infrastructure, it may be desirable to adopt RSA in a WSN setting. With this work, we show that, in spite of its long key size, RSA is applicable for wireless sensor networks when optimized arithmetic, low-level coding and some acceleration algorithms are used. We pick three versions of the MSP430 microcontroller, which is used widely on wireless sensor network nodes, and implement 1024-bit RSA on them. Our implementation achieves 1024-bit RSA encryption and decryption operations on MSP430 in only 0 . 047 s and 1 . 14 s, respectively. In order to achieve these timings, we utilize several acceleration techniques, such as the subtractive Karatsuba-Ofman, Montgomery multiplication, operand scanning, Chinese remainder theorem and sliding window method. To the best of our knowledge, our timings for 1024-bit RSA encryption and decryption operations are the fastest reported timings in the literature for the MSP430 microcontroller.

A new type residual current protector is designed in this paper. Using residual magnetic flux and the resonance voltage as leakage current signal in iron core, when there are residual current in power suply system, the device can automatically take relevant actions according to the real-time residual current value that is detected by detection circuit. The protector can be used to against electric shock and protect a ground fault. When the protection is occurred, the residual current protective device (RCD) possesses the inverse time lag function, ideal time delay and the automatic reclosing function. It also transmits the fault information to control center by the inter-integrated circuit (I2C) bus. Resonant circuit can avoid live parts injury, which limit the current value through contact resistance, and does not interrupt the work of electrical equipment. So the RCD can be used in all kinds of low voltage single-phase system that will snsure the safety and the reliability of the power supply.

The timing square wave generated by Timer B outputted by the I/O port was taken as the control signal of the stepping motor, and the control signal drove the stepping motor through the L297 and L298N chips. At the same time, four buttons were used to control the status of the motor, and an AMPIRE-12864 was used to display the real-time data of speed of stepping motor measured by the photoelectric encoder. The system software was implemented by C language under the environment of IAR for MSP430, and the system overall and module simulation were implemented under PROTUES software environment. Finally, the calibrating test was conducted. The results prove this apparatus can obtain the anticipant effect.

The design solution presented in this article is a pressure data acquisition system which is based on the piezoresistive pressure sensor and MSP430F249 microcontroller. It can be simulated on the Protues7. FlexiForce-A201 sensor can be seen as a variable resistance in the circuit. Using the signal conditioning circuit and on chip components ADC12 and DAC12 to realize the 8 channels of analog signals and transformation and the A/D conversion accuracy is 12-bit. The results of transformation can be both stored in the M45PE16 flash and real-time displayed on the LCD1602. This system used the on-chip peripherals and powered by button cell. This solution can realize the independence of system and data source by joining up various sensors. It is simple, low-power and universal.

Taking the MSP4 microcomputer with 16 bits bus and FLASH memory as the core, a high-resolution PCB coordinate positioning system is designed and fabricated. The simple handwriting input device is fabricated with the PCB common copper clad laminate of 10*15cm. Due to its material, such input device can form a small resistance array, so it will involve a problem about how to select the measurement methods of the small resistance. Through many repeat tests of various experimental schemes and the high-precision A/D sampling, the voltage signal transmit from the resistance through the instrument transporting and filtering is indicated on the LCD12864. And through certain approximate algorithm and data processing, the contact coordinates of the digitizer pen can be indicated in real time, and you can also draw simple graphics through the system. In addition, the system is characterized by high resolution and low power consumption.

A low-power consumption heat meter with long-distance communication was designed based on MSP430F413 and TDC-GP2. The new flow measurement circuit and correction method were introduced in detail, which improved the accuracy of the heat meter effectively. In order to reduce the power consumption, the running time of the CPU was minimized, the floating-point operation was avoided, and the communication circuit was designed specially. The experiments showed the design is valid.
