Introduction This Special Issue (Part 2) expands upon the theme “Building Local Capacity for Long-term Disaster Resilience” presented in Special Issue Part 1 (JDR Volume 5, Number 2, April 2010) by examining the evolving concept of disaster resilience and providing additional reflections upon various aspects of its meaning. Part 1 provided a mixed set of examples of resiliency efforts, ranging from administrative challenges of integrating resilience into recovery to the analysis of hazard mitigation plans directed toward guiding local capability for developing resiliency. A thorough exploration of the effects of a given minute’s currency exchange rates on subsequent 1, 5, 10, 15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes’ currency exchange rates is presented in this article, with machine learning and ensemble methods being applied. The focus is on twelve currency pairs, including EUR/AUD, EUR/GBP, and EUR/PLN, with a data set of per-minute logs of these pairs’ exchange rates from 2022 being leveraged. A stacked ensemble of Random Forest and Support Vector Regression (SVR) is used to predict future exchange rates. A comparison of this model is also made with the single RF, single

Following unprecedented and protracted political and economic crises during the period spanning 2000 to 2009, Zimbabwe experienced increased migration of its populace to the diaspora. One notable positive result of this migration phenomenon has been an increase in the inflows of remittances, which have partly inspired the emergence of enterprises. In February of 2009, Zimbabwe introduced the multi-currency system, which introduced new dynamics related to the sustainability of these enterprises. This, coupled with the foregoing, called for the review of the sustainability of remittance-inspired

Purpose The purpose of this study is to offer a conceptual model that bridges gaps in the current research by combining constructs from the health belief model (HBM) and theory of planned behaviour (TPB). Furthermore, the researchers applied the constructed model to analyse the determinants of workers’ intentions to use e-wallet payment options for business transactions rather than physical currency during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, the paper examines whether there are any significant variations in the usage intentions of Ghanaian workers in the formal and informal sectors. Design

To support the understanding that banks’ debt issuance means money creation, while centralized nonbank financial institutions’ and decentralized bond market intermediary lending does not, the paper aims to convey two related points: First, the notion of money creation as a result of banks’ loan creation is compatible with the notion of liquid funding needs in a multi-bank system, in which liquid fund (reserve) transfers across banks happen naturally. Second, interest rate-based monetary policy has a bearing on macroeconomic dynamics precisely due to that multi-bank structure. It would lose its
