Abstract:
AbstractSkin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer and, with its increasing incidence, accurate early diagnosis is crucial to improve prognosis of patients. In the process of visual inspection, dermatologists follow specific dermoscopic algorithms and identify important features to provide a diagnosis. This process can be automated as such characteristics can be extracted by computer vision techniques. Although deep neural networks can extract useful features from digital images for skin lesion classification, performance can be improved by providing additional information. The extracted pseudo-features can be used as input (multimodal) or output (multi-tasking) to train a robust deep learning model. This work investigates the multimodal and multi-tasking techniques for more efficient training, given the single optimization of several related tasks in the latter, and generation of better diagnosis predictions. Additionally, the role of lesion segmentation is also studied. Results show that multi-tasking improves learning of beneficial features which lead to better predictions, and pseudo-features inspired by the ABCD rule provide readily available helpful information about the skin lesion.

Abstract:
AbstractHyperproperties are properties that relate multiple execution traces. Previous work on monitoring hyperproperties focused on synchronous hyperproperties, usually specified in HyperLTL. When monitoring synchronous hyperproperties, all traces are assumed to proceed at the same speed. We introduce (multi-trace) prefix transducers and show how to use them for monitoring synchronous as well as, for the first time, asynchronous hyperproperties. Prefix transducers map multiple input traces into one or more output traces by incrementally matching prefixes of the input traces against expressions similar to regular expressions. The prefixes of different traces which are consumed by a single matching step of the monitor may have different lengths. The deterministic and executable nature of prefix transducers makes them more suitable as an intermediate formalism for runtime verification than logical specifications, which tend to be highly non-deterministic, especially in the case of asynchronous hyperproperties. We report on a set of experiments about monitoring asynchronous version of observational determinism.

Full text
Abstract:
This chapter evaluates output feedback of uncertain multi-input systems. Similar to the case of single-input delay, the result of multi-input delays obtained in the chapter is not global, as it does not believe the problem where the actuator state is not measurable and the delay value is unknown at the same time is solvable globally, since the problem is not linearly parameterized. In a practical sense, the stability result proven in the chapter is not a highly satisfactory result since it is local both in the initial state and in the initial parameter error. This means that the initial delay estimate needs to be sufficiently close to the true delay. Under such an assumption, one might as well use a linear controller and rely on robustness of the feedback law to small errors in the assumed delay value. Nevertheless, the chapter presents the local result here as it highlights quite clearly why a global result is not obtainable when both the delay value and the delay state are unavailable.

Full text
Abstract:
This paper presents a hybrid buck-boost DC-DC converter structure to address the limitations of single-output and low conversion ratios (CR) in traditional energy harvesting systems. To reduce the CR of the inductive boost and enhance the total CR of the converter while improving efficiency, the proposed converter cascades a boost circuit with a reconfigurable switched capacitor (SC), and also includes a supercapacitor. The advantage of this architecture is the ability to use low-voltage low-threshold transistors with lower parasitic capacitance and on-resistance, which achieve high-voltage output while reducing switching and conduction losses. The supercapacitor can store energy under a light load and provide additional energy replenishment in buck mode under heavy load. The reconfigurable SC circuit can enable a 2V or 3V output by configuring the switch array. Adaptive switching frequency control was used to achieve a balance between load capability and switching loss. The proposed DC-DC converter is designed with a 0.18 µm CMOS process and has maximum conversion efficiencies of 91.83%, 89.42%, and 88.09% for the inductive boost stage, 2V SC output stage, and 3V SC output stage, respectively. The output voltage ripple is less than 20 mV at 1V output and less than 30 mV at 2V output and 3V output. The input voltage of the converter is as low as 20 mV. The converter features multi-output, high-conversion-ratio, and enhanced efficiency, which are suitable for energy-harvesting applications.

Abstract:
Abstract The design of a single-sided LIM, similar to the design of any other electrical machine, is regarded as a problem of synthesis. This means that the operation Y = AX should be performed, where A is the mathematical operator of model being considered, X is the set of input data, and Y is the set of output results. Both sets, X and Y, can consist of a few subsets. The general design data of a single-sided LIM are: (i) geometry (longitudinal or transverse magnetic flux); (ii) type of primary winding (distributed or concentrated, single-layer, or double-layer); (iii) type of reaction rail (cage, solid ferromagnetic, double-layer, or multi-layer); (iv) thrust Fx at a given input frequency f, and linear velocity v; (v) input frequency f; (vi) linear velocity v; (vii) input voltage V1, and connection of the primary winding (Y or Δ.); (viii) duty cycle (continuous, short time, or short-time intermittent); (ix) class of insulation (For H). Instead of the linear velocity v corresponding to Fx, the synchronous linear velocity V8 is sometimes given.
