Abstract:
In the forthcoming broadband wireless communications, channel equalisation and estimation solutions are required to be robust against frequency selective fading channels and have a low signal processing complexity. This thesis investigates iterative frequency-domain channel equalisation and estimation for single-carrier (SC) multi-input multi-output (MIMO) wireless communication systems, aiming to outperform iterative time-domain channel equalisation and estimation with a low complexity.

Abstract:
In this thesis, we propose and investigate code acquisition schemes employing both colocated and cooperative Multiple Input/Multiple Output (MIMO) aided Single-Carrier (SC) and Multi-Carrier (MC) Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) DownLink (DL) schemes. We study their characteristics and performance in terms of both Non-Coherent (NC) and Differentially Coherent (DC) MIMO scenarios. Furthermore, we also propose iterative code acquisition schemes for the Direct Sequence-Ultra WideBand (DS-UWB) DL. There is a paucity of code acquisition techniques designed for transmit diversity aided systems.

Multi-User Multi-Input Multi-Output (MU-MIMO) systems are considered to be the sustainable technologies of the current and future of the upcoming wireless and mobile networks generations. The perspectives of these technologies under several scenarios is the focus of the present thesis. The initial system model covers the MU-MIMO, especially in the massive form that is considered to be the promising ideas and pillars of the 5G network. It is observed that the optimal number of users should be served in the time-frequency resource even though the maximum limitation of the MU-MIMO is governed

RF and acoustic communications are widely used in terrestrial and underwater environments, respectively. This thesis examines the use of ultrasonic communication alternately in terrestrial applications. We first investigate the ultrasonic channel in order to observe whether reliable communication is possible among the ultrasonic nodes as an alternative to RF-based communications. Some key characteristics of the single-input-single-output (SISO) and single-inputmultiple- output (SIMO) ultrasonic channel are inspected with extensive experiments utilizing ultrasonic transmitters and receivers. The processes involved in fuzzy controllers closely imitate human control processes. Human responses to stimuli are not governed by transfer functions and neither are those from fuzzy controllers. The fuzzy approach is of course not the answer to all problems, but it can clearly be very successful, and can also be helpful to anyone involved in developing control systems.
