Abstract:
The development of a smart sensor is proposed to improve the thermal error compensation model of a multi-spindle automatic lathe. The smart sensor is capable of gathering real-time information about rotating spindle drum temperatures. Thereafter, the temperature obtained by the smart sensor is applied as input to the thermal error compensation model based on the transfer function instead of an indigenous temperature measured on the stationary part of the multi-spindle automatic lathe. Using spindle drum temperature as the model input increases the prediction of thermal displacements in the X-axis by 16%.

Abstract:
AbstractThe article deals with the description of the production of a shaped part composed of an outer pyramid and cylindrical surface, of inner cylindrical surfaces of different diameters and of an inner tongue groove. It describes the proposed tools and tool holders resulting from the technological process. In order to meet the required tolerances and shape deviations for the given component, the CTX alpha 500 two-spindle multi-axis CNC lathe was chosen for its production. Its control system enables the workshop method of programming and simulation of individual operations in automatic mode or in block-by-block mode. The design of the selected CNC lathe enables the machining of rotary parts in one clamping, which is ensured by the right and left spindle with chucks. The surface quality of the pyramidal surface and the internal diameter of D18H8 was measured using a Hommel Etamic W5 roughness gauge. The measured roughness values for the hole were: D = 18H8, Rz = 3.007 μm, Ra = 0.729 μm and for the pyramidal surface: Rz = 1.527 μm and Ra = 0.329 μm.

Abstract:
A conventional manual lathe electric motor drives the multi-stage gearbox transmitting torque to the spindle so that the workpiece makes contact with the machine tool at a given speed. The cutting speed is proportional to both the diameter of the workpiece and the spindle speed, however, the increments in spindle speed are limited. Manual lathe machines cannot be regulated at the optimum cutting speeds for all diameters. An innovative modernization of the main driveline of a TSB16 manual lathe is proposed in this paper, allowing for a cost-effective system for digital control of spindle speeds using an inverter. The inverter is controlled using an 8-bit AO (analog output) converter with special software developed with Visual Basic. The results of the analysis and various test runs with this new system for automated control of spindle rotation, showed that the required cutting speed can be achieved for any workpiece diameter. The deviation of cutting-speed of the upgraded system for any turning diameter is greatly reduced in comparison with the deviation of cutting-speed of a manual lathe. Finally, tests on this versatile system demonstrated a cost-effective method for modernizing the drive system of conventional lathe machines.

Abstract:
This diploma thesis deals with the design of a two-axis multi-spindle lathe carriage. In the first part, there is made a research, and its aim is to find possible variants of design solutions. After the best rated variant was selected, the thesis further continues with the necessary technical calculations of the main design nodes such as a synchronous servomotor, ball screw, linear guide and bearing. The design itself was carried out with regard to calculations and the resulting model was examined in terms of dynamic stability. The subject of examination was to find the natural frequencies of the assembly and to determine the amplitudes of the oscillations which arise from the harmonic excitation force. Finally, Lobe diagrams for grooving and longitudinal turning operations were drawn.
