Abstract:
Visible light communications (VLC) (including LiFi) represent a subset of the broader field of optical wireless communications. Where narrow beams, typical of free space optical communications are largely free from interference. VLC encompasses use cases involving combined illumination and data access and supporting a wireless access point (AP) model. The use of many units provides scaling of spatial coverage for both lighting and data access. However, AP replication in close proximity creates many interference challenges that motivate the investigation embodied in this paper. In particular, we frame the interference challenge in the context of existing strategies for driving improvements in link performance and consider the impacts of multiple users, multiple sources and multiple cells. Lastly, we review the state of existing research in this area and recommend areas for further study. This article is part of the theme issue ‘Optical wireless communication’.

Abstract:
Recent progress in Web Real-Time Communication (WebRTC) promotes multi-apps environment by creating islands of communication apps where users of one website or service cannot easily communicate with those of another. We describe the architecture and implementation of a multi-platform system to do user reachability in multiple communication services where users decide how they want to be reached on multiple apps, e.g. in an organization that has voice-over-IP, web conferencing and messaging from different vendors. We argue for user and endpoint driven reachability policies and cross-app interactions, instead of pair-wise service federation or global location service. Our architecture separates the user contacts from reachability apps, and has several independent and non-interoperable WebRTC-based apps for two-way and multi-party multimedia communication. Our software is implemented using HTML5 and JavaScript, and using a cross-platform development tool, runs as native apps on mobile as well as personal computers. Our flexible implementation can be used for enterprise or personal communications, or as a white-labeled app for consumers of a business.

Abstract:
A multifunctional system that performs synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and communication tasks is presented. The system depends on orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) waveform shaping and multiple input multiple output (MIMO) configuration to achieve enhancement in the spectral efficiency of communication operation and provide interference rejection in SAR imaging. The SAR interval idle time is utilized to enhance the communication signal through diversity. Adaptive system features are introduced to achieve multi-user detection and improve the communication reliability, by means of space division multiple access (SDMA) and space–time block coding (STBC). Investigations of linear and nonlinear multi-user detection (MUD) techniques are provided. Moreover, a genetic algorithm-based system is developed to optimize the MUD problem and to provide near-optimal performance even for overloaded scenarios. A gain of more than 4 dB is achieved at bit error rate of 10-2.

Abstract:
A transmit antenna selection (TxAS) aided multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) system is proposed for operating in the MIMO downlink channel environments, which shows significant improvement in terms of higher data rate when compared to the conventional MU-MIMO systems operating without adopting TxAS, while maintaining low hardware costs. We opt for employing a simple yet efficient zero-forcing beamforming (ZFBF) linear precoding scheme at the transmitter in order to reduce the decoding complexity when considering users’ side. Moreover, considering that users within the same cell may require various qualities of service (QoS), we further propose a novel user-oriented smart TxAS (UOSTxAS) scheme, of which the main idea is to carry out AS based on the QoS requirements of different users. At last, we implement the proposed UOSTxAS scheme in the software defined radio (SDR) MIMO communication hardware platform, which is the first prototype hardware system that runs the UOSTxAS MU-MIMO scheme. Our results show that, by employing TxAS, the proposed UOSTxAS scheme is capable of offering higher data rates for priority users, while reasonably ensuring the performance of the common users requiring lower rates both in simulation and in the implemented SDR MIMO communication platform.

Abstract:
Avatars are virtual characters making the communication between user and machine more natural and interactive. The main advantage of using avatars within interfaces is to allow user to interact intuitively with the system by giving him the illusion of communicating with a real human. This illusion is obtained by mimicking human communication, i.e. giving avatar the ability of expressing emotions through facial and body language. We proposed the method based on multi-layered representation for a kind of 3D anthropomorphic avatar, and validated it as an information presenter. The way of controlling the avatar's emotion is to use parameterized facial muscle model and skeleton skinning, scheduled with multi-thread. Then a series of naturalistic avatar animation produced.

Abstract:
In this paper, we design linear precoders for the downlink of a visible light communication (VLC) system that simultaneously serves multiple users. Instead of using phosphor-coated white light-emitting diodes (PWLEDs), we focus on Red-Green-Blue light-emitting diodes (RGB-LEDs) that allow modulating three separate data streams on the three primary colors of the RGB-LEDs. For this system, we design a zero-forcing (ZF) precoder that maximizes the weighted sum rate for a multilevel pulse amplitude modulation (M-PAM). The precoding design in RGB-based systems presents some challenges due to the system constraints, such as the limited power, the non-negative amplitude constraints per light-emitting diode (LED), and the need to guarantee white light emission while transmitting with RGB-LEDs. For comparison purposes, we also consider the ZF design for a PWLED-based system and evaluate the performance of both a PWLED- and an RGB-based system.

Abstract:
Support of multiple users in wideband powerline communication (PLC) is essential to enhance the dependence on such emerging systems. This paper presents novel adaptations of the space division multiple access (SDMA) techniques to PLC. Multicarrier data transmission and orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) techniques are invoked to mitigate the technical challenges of PLC channel impairments and enhance the spectral efficiency. Performance is enhanced using orthogonal Walsh–Hadamard codes. Linear and nonlinear multi-user detection (MUD) schemes are investigated, including the optimal maximum likelihood (ML) methods and the near-optimal sphere detectors(SDs). Presented results indicate the potential of the proposed scheme to enhance wideband PLC systems.

Abstract:
In this paper, several techniques for multi-user interference suppression from power-controlled direct-sequence CDMA systems are proposed and the emphasis is on the one-shot structure. The proposed schemes arise from the optimum detector that takes into account the existence of power-controlled chip-synchronous multi-user interference and white Gaussian noise. Restricting the multi-user interference to the power-controlled chip-synchronous case strongly reduces the complexity of the optimum detector. For more reduction in the complexity, some approximations of the obtained techniques are also considered. It is shown that in asynchronous CDMA systems and in the presence of white Gaussian noise, the proposed detectors outperform the correlator with comparable complexity

Abstract:
Ultra-wideband(UWB) is currently one of three new technologies of wireless communication. Multi-user detection technique is mainly used to eliminate multiple access interference(MAI)in DS-CDMA UWB communication systems. Linear multi-user detection algorithm for multi-access interference suppression or even elimination has certain results. But for a fixed decision threshold is set to 0, the detection performance of linear multi-user detection algorithm will be decreased significantly. Therefore a kind of multi-user detection with pre-processing has been researched. Through the pre-processing, we set dynamic threshold to direct decision the user's data bit information so as to solve the problem the linear multi-user detector’s decision threshold which is fixed impact the detection performance. We may get the global optimal solution though pre-processing of using the thought of the branch and bound algorithm and forcing rules. Then the original problem changes into a smaller multi-user detection problem, in order to get the aim of reducing MAI, increasing the probability of a correct decision and reducing the bit error rate. From the simulation experiment results, it is shown that it has a significant effect in system detection, because after pre-processing the probability of a correct decision has increased, and the bit error rate has been reduced.

Abstract:
Abstract The main objective of the research is to provide a multi-agent data mining system for diagnosing diabetes. Here, we use multi-agents for diagnosing diabetes such as user agent, connection agent, updation agent, and security agent, in which each agent performs their own task under the coordination of the connection agent. For secure communication, the user symptoms are encrypted with the help of Elliptic Curve Cryptography and Optimal Advanced Encryption Standard. In Optimal Advanced Encryption Standard algorithm, the key values are optimally selected by means of differential evaluation algorithm. After receiving the encrypted data, the suggested method needs to find the diabetes level of the user through multiple kernel support vector machine algorithm. Based on that, the agent prescribes the drugs for the corresponding user. The performance of the proposed technique is evaluated by classification accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, precision, recall, execution time and memory value. The proposed method will be implemented in JAVA platform.

With the constraints of chromaticity, luminance, and signal range, the precoding designs are formulated to achieve the max-min fairness and the maximum sum-rate. Since the closed-form expression for the capacities is not available, the lower and upper bounds are chosen as the performance criterions. To make the optimization problems be easy to be solved by using standard optimization packages, the non-convex problems are cast into convex ones. Subsequently, algorithms are developed to find optimal solutions. Extensive simulation results indicate that the proposed precoding schemes outperform the conventional pseudo inverse method.

Abstract:
Noise multiple and user interference are the two important influencing factors that carrier synchronization technology in the wireless communication system faces. On the one hand, the phase locked loop and data aided carrier synchronization device is faced with poor estimation precision and slow convergence speed. On the other hand frequency offset and channel estimation problem need to be solved in multi-input multi-output (MIMO) communication system collaboration under the condition of dry low signal to noise ratio. So research of carrier synchronization algorithm of low complexity, high precision in view of the low SNR and multi-user communication system is becoming an important issue. 1.
