Longmen Shan Mountain Belt is a prominent orogeny along the eastern margin of the Tibetan plateau. Its current deformation has significant implications for the Cenozoic tectonics of the Tibetan plateau. The M=8 Wenchuan earthquake substantially ruptured the Longmen Shan mountain in 2008. Numerous tectonics and rheological implications are concluded by this event on crustal dynamics along the eastern margin of the Tibetan plateau. Several high-resolution gravity surveys were conducted before and after the event to investigate the regional isostasy and crustal dynamics. From 2008 to 2011, four g

Mafic volcanic rocks of the Hekou Group and nearby gabbroic intrusions have identical zircon U-Pb ages of ~1700 Ma. The sedimentary and mafic rocks are suggested to have formed in an intra-continental rift, similar to those of the North Australian Craton. Such a similarity suggests that the Yangtze Block was likely linked with the North Australian Craton in the Columbia supercontinent during late Paleoproterozoic. Overlying the Hekou Group is

Furthermore, flexibility has been posited to play a crucial role in the development of psychological well-being in adolescents but its significance has seldom been examined in the context of traumatic events. This thesis explores attitudes to the body, illness and healing in contemporary rural China through the prism of Pierre Bourdieu's notion of habitus. It is divided in two parts. Part 1 aims to situate attitudes to the body in the specific social, cultural and political economic settings which have engendered them. I show that bodily dispositions articulate ways of engaging with one's surroundings and claims to authority and status. Past experiences equip different generations with different habitus (Bourdieu, 1977; 1990). At the same time, habitus is revised in light of engagements with new en

On May 12, 2008, an earthquake, measuring 8.0 Ms, occurred in Wenchuan, Sichuan province, China. The earthquake killed more than 70,000 people and left about 20,000 missing. “Reconstructing new homeland” (重建新家園) became the key policy in Sichuan’s rural reform after the 2008 earthquake at Wenchuan. Discursively and in practice, the “homeland” that was being reconstructed involved two components — “home” and “land”. In the Chinese context, “home” referred to both family and household, while “land” consisted of the physical environment and the resources therein. This thesis argues that all these components were constructed and contested by gendered subjects, and the “reconstructing new homeland” policy was a site where the gender-environment linkage became highly con
