The major goal of this study was to gain a better understanding of the effects that grain boundaries have on conduction in multilayer ceramic (MLC) capacitors. Electrical measurements were made so that current-voltage curves and impedance plots could be constructed. It was found that the current-voltage curves of new COG and X7R multilayer ceramic capacitors are both ohmic at low voltages and super-ohmic at intermediate voltages. Epitaxial Be films were grown for the first time on α-Al₂O₃ (0001), Si (111), Si (100), GaAs (111), and Ge (111) single-crystal substrates.
