Abstract:
The monogeneric Daphniphyllaceae contain 36 taxa in the genus Daphniphyllum Blume that are endemic to Southeast Asia. Daphniphyllum is a morphologically homogeneous group of evergreen shrubs to trees divided into three sections: Daphniphyllum, Lunata T. C. Huang, and Staminodia Hurusawa. While the medicinal value of the Daphniphyllaceae has been explored in many studies, the understanding of their evolutionary history and infrageneric classification is still limited. Abstract:
Endophytic fungi have been known to play a role in protecting their host plants against diseases and extreme environments. The purpose of this study was to determine the antagonistic activity of three Aspergillus isolates against F. oxysporum f. sp. cubense (Foc), and to identify the Aspergillus identity using multilocus phylogeny analysis. Antagonistic assay by dual culture method showed that the Aspergillus sp. strain PD2, strain PD4, and strain PD5 inhibited the growth of Foc isolate by 37.31%, 26.52%, and 12.04%, respectively. The assignment of accurate species names is crucial, especially for those with confirmed agronomic potential such as highland papayas. The use of additional methodologies and data sets is recommended to establish well-supported boundaries among species of Vasconcellea. Accordingly, six chloroplast (trnL-trnF, rpl20-rps12, psbA-trnH intergenic spacers, matK and rbcL genes) and nuclear (ITS) markers were used to delimit species in the genus Vasconcellea using phylogeny and four DNA-based methods. The extant medically and socially important cobras have been the subject to several comparative taxonomic studies since the 1940s, but still lack an inclusive and thorough phylogenetic tree. With recent major advancements in phylogenetic analysis, it is now common to use multiple independent loci for studying the phylogenetic relationships within groups. For the first time, 27 from the 29 identified Naja species, alongside 5 putative new or elevated species had 4426 base pairs across 1701 sequences of mitochondrial and nuclear DNA sequence data analysed. Colletotrichum species are considered one of the most economically important plant pathogens. They cause many losses in tropical, subtropical and temperate regions affecting a wide range of plant species. In tropical and subtropical regions C. gloeosporioides and C. acutatum are associated with significant losses on pre and post-harvest anthracnoses. There are still many features to understand about Colletotrichum biology and its systematics. The accurate identification of species involved with each anthracnose is of high relevance to establish management strategies to control the disease. Alt
