Abstract:
Multimodal summarization with multimodal output (MSMO) is to generate a multimodal summary for a multimodal news report, which has been proven to effectively improve users' satisfaction. The existing MSMO methods are trained by the target of text modality, leading to the modality-bias problem that ignores the quality of model-selected image during training. To alleviate this problem, we propose a multimodal objective function with the guidance of multimodal reference to use the loss from the summary generation and the image selection. Due to the lack of multimodal reference data, we present tw

Multimodal and multi-domain stylization are two important problems in the field of image style transfer. Currently, there are few methods that can perform multimodal and multi-domain stylization simultaneously. In this study, we propose a unified framework for multimodal and multi-domain style transfer with the support of both exemplar-based reference and randomly sampled guidance. The key component of our method is a novel style distribution alignment module that eliminates the explicit distribution gaps between various style domains and reduces the risk of mode collapse. However, progress towards this goal is still at an early stage. The aim of this paper is to propose a MR visualisation platform which projects multiple imaging modalities to assist intraoperative surgical guidance. Methodology In this work, a MR visualisation platform has been developed for the Microsoft HoloLens. Abstract:
AbstractNoninvasive, robust, and reproducible methods to image kidneys are provided by different imaging modalities. A combination of modalities (multimodality) can give better insight into structure and function and to understand the physiology of the kidney. Magnetic resonance imaging can be complemented by a multimodal imaging approach to obtain additional information or include interventional procedures. In the clinic, renal ultrasound has been essential for the diagnosis and management of kidney disease and for the guidance of invasive procedures for a long time. Adapting ultrasound to preclinical requirements and for translational research, the combination with photoacoustic imaging expands the capabilities to obtain anatomical, functional, and molecular information from animal models. This chapter describes the basic concepts of how to image kidneys using different and most appropriate modalities. This chapter is based upon work from the COST Action PARENCHIMA, a community-driven network funded by the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) program of the European Union, which aims to improve the reproducibility and standardization of renal MRI biomarkers. This introduction chapter is complemented by two separate chapters describing the experimental procedure and data analysis.

Abstract:
This chapter describes a technology-centered intervention project to demonstrate the benefits of a multimodal, Web-based platform, STEPS to Literacy, for teaching academic writing to Latina/o adolescent learners of English. After laying out a theoretical and empirical rationale, the authors provide details about the design features and instructional approach that support student writing. Next, an example is given of the use of STEPS in the classroom, in which eighth-grade students with the teacher's guidance analyze multimodal documents, take notes, and write an essay for a unit on the Civil Rights Movement. A summary of the benefits of such an online system for academic writing development is outlined, and a set of points for teachers to consider for planning and implementation in the classroom concludes the chapter.

Abstract:
Chapter 11 describes many of the most common interventional and surgical procedures performed in the field of chronic pain medicine. They are discussed in a cranial to caudal pattern, and this is done not only for logical arrangement but also to highlight the breadth of procedures that are utilized in practice. Interventional and surgical pain management techniques using image or landmark guidance may provide diagnostic and therapeutic relief for patients suffering from pain. Performed by formally trained and experienced proceduralists, interventions, in conjunction with other multimodal strategies such as medications, physical therapy, and behavioral therapies, can be useful techniques for helping patients achieve improved function and pain relief. Benefits may be short or longer term, depending on the interventional strategy utilized. Indications, evidence, and risks must be considered when choosing the most appropriate interventional options for a patient.

Abstract:
This chapter explores the varied participatory practices that were triggered during the Spring 2016 iteration of the Digital Dialogue Project (DDP), an initiative that connected different age groups in distinct subject-area classes within contrasting schools embedded inside divergent communities. During the project, youth (from 3rd grade to 12th grade) engaged in three phases: (1) producing multimodal products connected to curricular goals, (2) virtually sharing/viewing/commenting on the digital product with small groups of 3-5 youth from different schools, and (3) meeting face to face at a culminating field trip to engage in collaborative theater exercises to dramatically embody the groups' digital stories. Authors provide concrete examples of the kinds of participation that the DDP evoked as well as key pedagogical commitments to literacies that were central to designing and implementing the project. Throughout the chapter, real talk for practicing teachers is provided in order to offer guidance for those interested in imagining similar participatory projects for youth.
