MS is a significant source of stress for many individuals. It is a chronic disease. The onset most often is in young adulthood. There are no preventative measures. Treatment is limited and often ineffective. For many the disease is characterised by unpredictable periods of remission and exacerbation of symptoms. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurodegenerative disease of uncertain etiology and pathology, affected by genetic and environmental factors. Nutrition may be one of these factors. This study used one validated 80-item food frequency questionnaire and one 24-hour recall to assess dietary intake, anthropometric and lifestyle practices, and self-perceived impacts of food in 36 adults with MS. Although it is known that DMF have protective antioxidant properties against brain and spinal cord damage during MS, its precise mechanism of action remains still elusive.
