The effect of the sodium-to-potassium ratio (Na/K) on renal function within the clinically normal range of renal function are limited. We investigated the effects of an estimated 24 h urinary Na/K (e24hUNa/K) on a 6-year renal function decline among 927 urban Japanese community dwellers with no history of cardiovascular diseases and medication for hypertension, diabetes, or dyslipidemia. We partitioned the subjects into quartiles according to the e24hUNa/K. The estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was calculated using the chronic kidney disease epidemiology collaboration (CKD/EPI) formu

ABSTRACT Background Risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD) is higher in normal-weight metabolically unhealthy people, especially when combined with hypertension. In this context, whether the visceral adiposity index (VAI), which reflects body fat distribution and metabolism, can be used to identify the risk of CKD among normal-weight hypertensive patients is unclear. Objectives This study aimed to evaluate the association between VAI and renal function in normal-weight hypertensive patients. Methods In this cross-sectional study, 8591 hypertensive patients with normal BMI from the China H-type H

In the present paper, we study and develop the definite integrals of Gradshteyn-Ryzhik given by Qureshi et al. [3]. The results are in general character and besides of this have been put in a compact form avoiding the occurrence of infinite series and thus making them useful in applications. Several other new and known results can also be obtained from our main theorems.

Traditional steady-state control methods are applied to turbofan engines operating in the small region near certain operating conditions, which need to switch controllers for operating in the large region and then may lead to instability and performance degradation of the closed-loop system. In this paper, a novel multivariable nonlinear robust control method for turbofan engines is proposed to improve the control performance within the large region. To enlarge the controllable region, a polynomial state-space model describes the nonlinear characteristics of turbofan engines. Based on the anal

Sarcopenia is associated with NAFLD. It is unknown if the association is explained by shared risk factors. Our study sought to investigate the association between liver fat and sarcopenia in our cohort. Liver fat was measured on CT between 2008 and 2011. We excluded heavy alcohol use and missing covariates. Muscle mass in a subset (n = 485) was measured by 24 h urinary creatinine. Physical function was defined by h strength and walking speed. Sarcopenia was defined as low muscle mass and/or low physical function. We created multivariable-adjusted regression models to evaluate cross-sectional a

Background: Identifying acute kidney injury (AKI) within few hours of onset is certainly helpful. However, early prediction of a long-term eGFR decline may be an even more important goal. Our aim was to identify and compare serum [creatinine, kineticGFR, cystatin C, neutrophil gelatinase–associated lipocalin (NGAL)] and urinary (NephroCheck, NGAL, proteinuria, albuminuria, acantocytes at urinary sediment) predictors of AKI that might efficiently predict long-term GFR decline after robotic Nephron-Spearing Surgery (rNSS). Urinary neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (uNGAL) has been suggested as potential early marker of delayed graft function (DGF) following kidney transplantation (KTx). We conducted a prospective study in 40 consecutive KTx recipients to evaluate serial changes of uNGAL within the first week after KTx and assess its performance in predicting DGF (dialysis requirement during initial posttransplant week) and graft function throughout first year. Urine samples were collected on post-KTx days 0, 1, 2, 4, and 7. Linear mixed and multivariable regression models, receiver-operating characteris
