As the requirements to operate the electric power system become more stringent and operating costs must be kept to a minimum, operators and planners must ensure that power system models are accurate and capable of replicating system disturbances. Traditionally, load models were represented as static ZIP models; however, NERC has recently required that planners model the transient dynamics of motor loads to study their effect on the postdisturbance behavior of the power system. Abstract:
Doctor of Philosophy
Department of Statistics
Juan Du
Spatio-temporal and/or multivariate dependence naturally occur in datasets obtained in various disciplines; such as atmospheric sciences, meteorology, engineering and agriculture. There is a great deal of need to effectively model the complex dependence and correlated structure exhibited in these datasets. For this purpose, this dissertation studies methods and application of the spatio-temporal modeling and multivariate computation. First, a collection of spatio-temporal functions is proposed to model spatio-temporal processes wh

Abstract:
In this thesis, we consider radial basis function interpolations in d-dimensional Euclidean space Hd and the unit sphere 5d_1, where the data is generated not only by point-evaluations, but also by the derivatives, or differential/pseudo-differential operators. Some sufficient and necessary conditions for the well-posedness of the interpolations are given. The results on sensitivity and sta bility of the interpolation systems are obtained. The optimal properties of the interpolants are analysed through the variational framework and reproducing kernel Hilbert space property, the error bounds an

Abstract:

Proteomics is a relatively new discipline being implemented in life science fields. Proteomics allows a whole-systems approach to discerning changes in organismal physiology due to physical perturbations. The advantages of a proteomic approach may be counteracted by the ability to analyze the data in a meaningful way due to inherent problems with statistical assumptions. Furthermore, analyzing significant protein volume differences among treatment groups often requires analysis of numerous proteins even when limiting analyses to a particular protein type or physiological pathway.
