This research focuses on the study of Egyptian corn-mummies. The aim is to systematically record and analyse this class of objects in terms of form, decoration, representational theme, archaeological and cultural context, chronology and use. The present catalogue comprising 91 specimens (over 10 of which have not been previously studied) makes it possible to define the artefacts as mummiform objects, 35-50 cm long, made from a mixture of earth and grain, wrapped in resin-soaked linen bandages and often provided with Osirian wax mask and four small packages interpreted as the Sons of Horus. The Urabe strain of mumps was attenuated to produce a vaccine that was introduced in several countries, but withdrawn from the market when it was discovered to be insufficiently attenuated. The Urabe AM9 mumps vaccine was removed from use in many countries due to an unacceptable incidence of post-vaccination disease. The vaccine was found to be a mixture of closely related viruses, presumably with differing degrees of attenuation. One virus isolated from the vaccine has been shown to be fully attenuated in a rodent model. We sought to develop an inactivated nasal mumps virus (MuV) vaccine combined with the Protollin (Prl) adjuvant/delivery system. Antigen based on split Jones MuV was produced and characterized.<br>Eight-week old BALB/c female mice were vaccinated with two or three doses of MuV antigen (4 or 8 micrograms) with or without 4 micrograms of Prl. Weight and behaviours were monitored to assess safety, and serum, respiratory secretions and splenocytes were obtained at study termination to assess MuV-specific immunity.<br>All vaccines were well-tolerated.
