AbstractThe 2-year StART Entrepreneurship Project (StART) aims to support creative industries students to develop skills and utilise real-world experience to build successful and sustainable careers. UK-based and funded by the Office for Students and Research England, StART is a collaboration between the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (RCSSD) and University of the Arts London (UAL). The project involves the development of new in-curricular and extracurricular content and events, tailored specifically for students studying for higher education degrees in these and other specialist creative arts institutions.This chapter explores one specific way of delivering entrepreneurship education to students, an intense period of contact time often referred to as a ‘boot camp’. The chapter outlines the planning stage of this event, including how existing research on entrepreneurial learning might be mapped onto the boot camp format and how aspects of the QAA (Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Education: Guidance for UK education providers, Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, Gloucester, 2018) guidance was to be integrated. The chapter will also detail how existing frameworks such as EntreComp (McCallum et al., Joint Research Centre Entrepreneurship and the creative economy (3):400–414, 2018) and the CLEAR IDEAS model (Birdi, European Journal of Work and Organizational Psychology 30(3):400–414, 2021) informed design and delivery and how input from external industry partners and students themselves (both event participants and members of the StART Student Advisory Board) was a key part of the planning.

Arts marketers have long argued that marketing thinking needs to be substantially adapted to deal with the complexities and particularities of the creative and cultural industries. There are a number of books which take a practical approach to the marketing of music (e.g. Baker’s (2012) Guerilla Music Marketing Online), or provide an overview of the music industry (e.g. Kusek and Leonhard’s (2005) The Future of Music: A Manifesto for the Digital Music Revolution and Wikstrom’s (2009) The Music Industry: Music in the Cloud), or comment on economic aspects of the business from the point of view of popular music studies. This book, in contrast, deals with the application of marketing and consumer studies theory to the business. As far as the authors can establish, this has not been attempted before.

Brands are the universal symbols of the modern era, comprising a set of values with which the consumer identifies. To activate a brand is to make its promise tangible through different marketing and advertising tools. The fashion film is established in the retail sector as a form of brand communication, which can encompass fashion, photography, film, advertising, music, and art, becoming heir to different and varied artistic disciplines: a format that allows interaction with customers by breaking traditional boundaries through transmediality. The aim of this chapter is to analyse the series of three fashion films, “Zara Sce-nes,” launched in 2019, in the context of the communication of changes in the brand's business strategy. With this purpose, the different chapters are analysed from the fashion film perspective as social media content and a brand communication tool.

Abstract For almost a century, technology has made it possible to experience opera beyond the confines of the opera house. Since it opened in 1883, the Metropolitan Opera has always kept abreast of new technologies and seized on them when they saw that employing them would make opera more widely available. One of its earliest, and still most far-reaching reaching initiatives, is the radio broadcasts which began in 1931 and continue today, some on Saturday afternoons and others more recently added on SiriusXM, and the television “Live from the Met,” broadcasts which have evolved into the Live in HD broadcasts into movie theaters. This chapter discusses the history of the Met’s use of technology, focusing on the radio broadcasts. It delves further into them and discusses many of the aspects that are considered when the broadcasts are produced, including how to create a show whose listeners range from new audience members to more knowledgeable ones, the style of presentation, the scripts, intermission features, business and artistic considerations, and more.

Abstract Discussions of policy making in the first Handbook addressed various aspects of policy for arts education (Smith, 1992). Essays ranged over such topics as the definition of policy, descriptions of particular policy decisions, the role of professional associations, the involvement of federal and private agencies, and questionable instances of policy formulation and implementation. My own contribution discussed a few of the latter. One of the flaws of policy making stemmed from inadequate considerations of the nature and value of art, without which policies can have little direction. Another consisted of limited visions of arts education that were inadequate for an effective understanding and appreciating of works of art. Yet another was attributing to both art and arts education inordinate measures of instrumental efficacy. A surfeit of benefits, for example, was believed to derive from simply having “art experiences,” a phrase characteristically left undefined. Also noted were examples of bad faith, which is to say the undertaking of purportedly unbiased and objective studies and research that were in fact intended to advance particular agendas. Termed “advocacy research,” this tendency came under strong scrutiny by critics. Advocacy, of course, is necessary and can be pursued responsibly, but in too many instances the motives and statements of advocates begged credibility. Moreover, there was a tendency to glamorize advocacy by showcasing figures from the worlds of entertainment and business whose contributions usually consisted of little more than sound bites.
