Mansi (Voguls) is one of the Ob-Ugric peoples of Western Siberia. Mansi have a lot of pho-noinstruments (including folk-music instruments): string (zither, lute, harp), shaman’s drum, hunter’s whistles, reindeer herder’s and household’s sounding items, children’s sound toys, etc. The most popu-lar of them is the zither named saŋkvəltap. This instrument is tuned over the diatonic pentachord: c-d-e-f-g or c-d-es-f-g, and there are other variants of tuning. The vibration levels in four traditional stringed instruments during playing have been investigated, including the double bass, violin, guitar, and the piano. The vibration levels, which were measured at several positions and at different dynamic levels, were evaluated with respect to reported thresholds for detection of vibrotactile stimuli. Abstract:
This chapter presents an original approach for the development of an automatic music transcription system of a Malagasy traditional plucked string instrument, called marovany zither. Our approach is based on a technology of multichannel capturing sensory system, which allows breaking down a complex polyphonic audio signal into a sum of monophonic sensor signals. A very high precision in transcription is obtained, i.e. &amp; gt; 95% on the average note-based F-measure metric. A second part of this chapter consists in using these transcripts in the human-machine improvisation system ImproteK. Details of an exploratory working session with a local Malagasy musician are reported and discussed.

Abstract:
This chapter explores the origins and meaning of the phrase "the devil's music," paying particular attention to the way in which black southern blues performers, male and female, contest the term. Africa, through the mechanism of the slave trade and the condemnation of instrumental music by Islamic clerics, offers one possible origin for devil's music concept. The prelude to the demonization of the blues and its representative instrument, the steel-stringed guitar, is the evangelization of the slaves and the demonization of the fiddle during the second Great Revival. As blues emerged in the Mississippi Delta early in the Twentieth Century, blues musicians like John Lee Hooker, Robert Johnson, and the Mississippi Sheiks, along with an irreverent "young modern" generation of black youth, mocked the hypocrisy of black ministers and spurned the religious certainties of their parents and the church.
