Abstract:
La combustion en milieu poreux est traitée par le biais de simulations numériques directes et détaillées, à la microéchelle, dans une extension du travail de Debenest (2003, 2005) qui porte principalement sur un enrichissement du modèle chimique. On considère plus particulièrement la combustion en lit fixe de particules solides, avec comme première application le brûlage de schistes bitumineux. Les processus de transport (convection, diffusion, conduction) et les réactions chimiques sont explicitement décrits à l'échelle des pores, ce qui permet d'exhiber leurs couplages et de révéler les phénomènes locaux qui déterminent les comportements globaux. Les simulations sont conduites principalement dans deux configurations bidimensionnelles, milieu stratifié ou réseau de cylindres, en examinant les effets des réactions pyrolytiques (cracking du kérogène et calcination des carbonates), et avec un schéma d'oxydoréduction qui fait intervenir jusqu'à quatre réactions. Une typologie phénoménologique est établie, incluant notamment l'existence de deux régimes principaux, avec ou sans flamme dans les pores. Des plages de fonctionnement sont identifiées, suivant les paramètres opératoires. On peut en rationaliser les tendances à l'aide de considérations théoriques, et montrer qu'une description macroscopique peut nécessiter des formulations différentes, selon les situations
Combustion in porous media is addressed by means of direct, detailed numerical simulations, on the microscale, in an extension of the work of Debenest (2003) where the main improvements are related to the chemical model. More specifically, fixed bed combustion of solid particles is considered, with application to the burning of oil shales. The transport processes (convection, diffusion, conduction) and the chemical reactions are explicitely described on the pore scale, which allows to account for their local couplings and to identify the small-scale phenomena which control the global behaviors. The simulations are conducted mainly in two two-dimensional configurations, a stratified medium and a network of cylinders. The effect of pyrolytic reactions (kerogen cracking and calcination of the carbonates) are examined, as well as the oxydative processes, with a chemical scheme involving four species and up to four reactions. A phenomenological typology is established, which features for instance two main regimes, with or without a flamme in the pore space. Ranges of functioning modes are identified, according to the operating parameters. Their trends can be rationalized by theoretical considerations, and it is shown that different situations may require different formulations in a macroscopic description

Abstract:
Nahhâs' rise to the leadership of the Wafd and the national movement reflected the rise of a new social force in Egyptian society and politics, the urban, middle-class professionals, especially the lawyers. This group, which first adopted the ideology of the Watani Party under the leadership of Mustafa Kâmil at the turn of the century, would soon shift its ideological orientation towards the ideology of the Umma Party controlled by its rural landowner supporters, and join forces under the leadership of Saâd Zaghlul and the newly-created Wafd Party. Nahhâs was soon to clash with the landowners, and his political career would be marked inside the Party by a continuous struggle of his wing for the domination of the Party, partly achieved in 1927 by his election, and then by the defection of the rival wing in 1932. The policy of the Party under the leadership of Nahhâs towards the British and the Palace reflected the inner balance of power between the two wings. The landowners being defeated by the lawyers in the elections brought about by the 1923 Constitution, would abandon their Umma ant-autocratic principles, while Nahhâs, the ex-Watani adherent, would implement the Umma's concept of co-operation with the British to achieve gradual independence, while at the same time curtailing the power of the Palace for a more constitutional representative government. In this light we can understand the 1936 Anglo-Egyptian treaty and the Palace incident of 4 February 1942. It was with the rise of a new urban middle class after World War II and the decline of Nahhâs as a representative of this group by bringing into the leadership ranks of the Wafd a landowner, Siraj al-Din, that the social base on which he depended moved to other political groups which finally succeeded in bringing down the whole of Nahhâs' regime in 1952.

Cette thèse, qui se fonde sur les publications originales en langue arabe et sur la documentation archivistique, a pour but de mettre en lumière les perspectives d'action, à la fois sociales, politiques, juridiques et religieuses, d'un réformiste égyptien moderne : cheikh Mustafa al-Maraghi né en Haute-Egypte en 1881, études à al6Azhar, cadi puis grand cadi au Soudan de 1904 à 1919, diverses fonctions dans la magistrature religieuse au Caire, recteur d'al-Azhar en 1928-29 et 1935-1945. L'un des grands axes de la pensée d'al-Maraghi est que 'Egypte a vocation à devenir le centre et le guide du monde musulman. C'est cette idée qui l'amène à lutter pour l'attribution du califat au sultan Kamil en 1915, puis pour sa restauration en faveur de Fouad et enfin de Farouk. C'est elle aussi qui l'incite à élaborer un projet de réforme pour al-Azhar dont l'objectif n'est pas seulement d'en faire une université moderne d'une haute valeur scientifique et capable d'assurer l'avenir professionnel de ses étudiants, mais aussi un centre de diffusion de l'Islam auquel tous les musulmans puissent avoir recours pour leur formation doctrinale et spirituelle. This dissertation, which is based on original Arabic sources and archival materials, provides the first historical and critical biography of a modern reformer : Shaykh al Maraghi, born in Upper Egypt in 1881, educated at al-Azhar, Cadi and Grand Cadi in the Sudan from 1904 to 1919, high judicial positions in the Sharia courts in Cairo, rector of al-Azhar 1928-1929 and 1935-1945. The study aims primarily at bringing out the social, political, legal and religious thought of an Egyptian sheikh who was a disciple of Muhammad Abduh and, in many fields, carried on the work undertaken by his master. Al-Maraghi was anxious to promote a more religious grounded political and social life. In his view, Egypt's destiny was to occupy a position of primacy by assuming the religious and political leadership of the Muslim world. This is why he endeavoured to obtain the Caliphate for Sultan Kamil in 1915, and then for King Fuad and King Faruq. For that reason also he tried to implement reforms whose purpose was not only to make al-Azhar a true university and to secure jobs for its graduates, but also to restore its prestige and influence in the Muslim world so that it could play the leading role in the education of the people

Abstract:
This work is a comparative study of the process of secularization in Turkey and Indonesia, with reference to the thought and policies of Mustafa Kemal and Sukarno. In their rational approach to religion and the concern to modernize their societies the two leaders were guided by a secularist paradigm of the relationship of state and religion that each formulated. The abolition of the sultanate-caliphate system, the end of Islam as the state religion and the replacement of Shari/'a by Western codes demonstrated the impact of modernization and secularization on Turkey. The "polity-dominance secularization" of Mustafa Kemal along with, among other thing, the abolition of religious education, the banning of the mystical orders, and the mandatory use of Turkish in Islamic ritual, made Turkey a completely secular state. In Indonesia, secularization was meant not only to serve the cause of modernization but also has had a special significance for ensuring the religious minority's support of the political system. Sukarno's decision to establish a quasi-secular Pancasila state was guided by a concern for political unity. However, unlike Mustafa Kemal, Sukarno avoided the strategy of overt opposition to religion, in order not to entail unacceptable political risks. Though the Indonesian Islamic parties have frequently opposed Sukarno's secularism, the Islamic ideological orientation was significantly moderated by Sukarno's pragmatic syncretism, as embodied in his manifesto NASAKOM (nationalism, religion and communism). Unlike in Turkey, Islamic parties were recognized, and Islamic courts and the system of religious education were integrated into the structure of state in Indonesia.

Cette thèse s'intéresse à la fin de l'ère ottomane. Elle étudie notamment les propositions des islamistes pour sortir l'Etat de la crise politique régnante ainsi que les querelles politiques qui sévirent lors des différentes étapes de la fondation de la république. Il y est question de la lutte entre la modernisation et l'esprit conservateur. Afin de mieux comprendre le point de vue des islamistes conservateurs défendant la tradition et le califat ainsi que cela des modernistes dont l'aboutissement fut la fondation de la république, nous avons choisi d'analyser ces avis et ces combats à travers la perspective sabrienne, Mustafa Sabri ayant été d'abord leader d'un parti d'opposition puis cheikh ul-islam. L'association des débats d'aujourd'hui à ceux d'autrefois: le califat, la séparation de la religion et de l'État (laïcité), le nationalisme, la place de la femme, le culte en langue nationale, permet, nous semble-t-il, de contribuer à l'élaboration de solution les concernant puisqu'ils perdurent jusqu'à nos jours
The broad object of this study is to examine the end of the Ottoman Era. It pays close attention to the Islamists' proposals to pull the State out of the prevailing political crisis and it also follows the fierce political debates that emerged during the different steps leading to the foundation of the Republic of Turkey. This study brings to light the conflict between modernization and conservatism. In order to have a better understanding ot the views expressed by, on the one hand, the conservative islamists defending tradition and the calliphate, and on the otherhand, the modernists whose goal was the foundation of the Republic, this study was conducted with a Sabrian perspective-Mustafa Sabri being first a leader of an opposition party and then a Cheih ul islam. The paralell drawn between today's debates and those occuring then (the calliphate, the separation between religion and State (laïcité), nationalism, women's place in society, the prayer in national language) seems to allow for the élaboration of solutions concerning these issues, since they still exist today

Abstract:
The aim of this work is to make some contributions towards understanding the stagnation of Islamic theology and the intellectual life of Muslims by concentrating on the life and works of Mustafa Sabri Efendi, one of the last Ottoman seyhulislams (chief jurisconsult of the State and head of the Ottoman religious establishment). Sabri was a leading scholar and politically active figure of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in the Ottoman State, and was appointed seyhulislams four times in the final years of the State. Due to his resistance to the Committee of Union and Progress and Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, he lived half of his life in exile in various countries, and died in Egypt.
The merit of Sabri's thought lies in its full reflection of influential theological and philosophical currents in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and in its recognition of the crucial importance of ontological and epistemological problems for contemporary Islam. Sabri emphasized that the epistemic structure of Islamic thought had collapsed, meaning that the first task of the Muslim psyche would have to consist in learning how to conceptualize and to formulate systematically its own positions on what "being" is (ontology) and what "knowledge" is (epistemology) in terms intelligible to others.
