Mycotic aneurysms, one of the most important complications of bacteremic Salmonella infection, are endovascular infections with a frequency of 25-35% in patients older than 50 years. Salmonella species commonly causes gastrointestinal infection in humans. Occasionally they lead to serious complications such as mycotic aneurysms which are rare but potentially fatal. Mortality is high without timely intervention. The clinical presentation is variable and early diagnosis requires a high degree of clinical alertness. Here, we reported a case of mycotic aneurysm secondary to Salmonella enteritidis infection. The case highlights the need to evaluate all elderly patients with non-typhoid Salmonella bacteremia for possible endovascular infections.

Summary Tracheal wash and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid analyses were performed in 9 dogs that had mycotic infections with pulmonary involvement. Characteristic organisms were identified in tracheal wash fluid in 3 of 7 dogs with blastomycosis. Organisms were identified in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid in 5 of 7 dogs with blastomycosis and in one dog with histoplasmosis.
