Abstract:
Two species of Actus, A. conoidus and A. salvadoricus, are recorded, described and illustrated for the first time from Vietnam. Actus conoidus was collected from Bach Long Vi Island, Quang Ninh Province; its measurements and features corresponded well with the type population from Manipur, India. Actus salvadoricus was found in the Na Hang preservation area, Tuyen Quang Province; its measurements and morphological features corresponded well with the type population from Ilopango, San Andres, Sonsonate and El Recreo, El Salvador, as well as those from Okinawa, Japan. Two known species of the genus Sporonchulus, namely S. ibitiensis and S. vagabundus, collected from natural areas of Vietnam, are characterized, including descriptions and illustrations of both species, as well as SEM observations and molecular (18S-, 28S rDNA) analyses of S. ibitiensis. The identity of the two species is discussed, with detailed comparison with previously known populations. The taxonomy of the genus is updated, presenting a diagnosis, list of species, key to their identification, and a compendium of their main morphometrics. Mononchids are predatory soil nematodes of ecological and agricultural importance. Our morphological examination of preserved mononchid specimens collected from South Kalimantan, Indonesia, revealed that they are Mylonchulus brachyuris (Bütschli, 1873). The morphological characters of these South Kalimantan specimens generally fit the published descriptions of this species. However, they have some deviations which are considered to be intraspecific variations and contribute to a redescription of the species. Summary A species of predatory nematode, Mylonchulus sigmaturus Cobb, 1917, was recovered around the soil and roots of banana plants (Musa paradisiaca) from four different localities of Pakistan. The male of this species represents a new record from Pakistan. Morphological and morphometric data of the species have been contributed along with the molecular study. The phylogenetic analysis using 18S rDNA placed the Pakistani populations of M. sigmaturus with the same species in a clade with 100 posterior probabilities. Mononchida members are predatory nematodes with the potential to reduce the number of plant-parasitic nematodes in the soil. During a survey on Mononchida in Iran, several populations of Mylonchulus were recovered from various localities. A population of M. hawaiiensis was studied using 18S rDNA. The phylogenetic analysis using Bayesian inference placed the sequenced M. hawiinesis (OP210758) together with other M. hawaiiensis from Japan (AB361438-AB361442) with a 1.00 posterior probability support.
