Abstract:
Although clinicians judge muscle tenseness by palpation, methods to quantify this have not become established. We examined the reliability and validity of a commercially available myotonometer to assess the biceps brachii and brachioradialis. Torques ranging from 0–72% of maximum effort were isometrically resisted in five men and five women, all healthy and 21–23 years of age. Root-mean-square of surface electromyographic response was also measured. Intraclass correlations were 0.80 or higher within sessions but decreased to 0.57 between sessions except for myotonometry of the biceps brachii.

Introduction. The use of classical methods for diagnosing muscle fatigue of physical workers, including dynamometry and electromyography, is often limited due to the complexity of the process, the inability to use them in production, and the subjectivity of the methodology. At the same time, such a method as myotonometry does not have these disadvantages, but the main area of its use at the moment is clinical practice. The aim of study was to determine the possibility of using myotonometry to assess muscle fatigue. Materials and methods. In the course of the study, the biomechanical characteri

Context:Hamstring musculotendinous stiffness (MTS) is associated with lower-extremity injury risk (ie, hamstring strain, anterior cruciate ligament injury) and is commonly assessed using the damped oscillatory technique. However, despite a preponderance of studies that measure MTS reliably in laboratory settings, there are no valid clinical measurement tools. A valid clinical measurement technique is needed to assess MTS and permit identification of individuals at heightened risk of injury and track rehabilitation progress. Objective:To determine the validity and reliability of the Myotonometer

Post-stroke spasticity seriously affects patients’ quality of life. Spasticity is considered to involve both neural and non-neural factors. Current clinical scales, such as the Modified Ashworth Scale and the Modified Tardieu Scale, lack reliability and reproducibility. These scales are also unable to identify the neural and non-neural contributions to spasticity. Surface electromyography and biomechanical and myotonometry measurement methods for post-stroke spasticity are discussed in this report.
