The MZI was constructed with a core-offset fusion single mode fiber (SMF) structure with a length of 3.0 cm. As APES gradually attaches to the MZI, the external environment of the MZI changes, which in turn causes change in the MZI’s interference. Three XOR photonics logic gate configurations namely semiconductor optical amplifier-Mach Zender interferometer cross phase modulation (SOA-MZI XPM), SOA-MZI cross gain modulation (XGM) and terahertz optical asymmetrical demultiplexer (TOAD) XOR are analysed and compared in terms of generated power, optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) values and bit error rate (BER) signal quality. <p>The task of the project was to evaluate a differential phase shift keying demodulation technique by replacing a Mach-Zehnder interferometer receiver with an optical filter (Fiber Bragg Grating). Computer simulations were made with single optical transmission, multi channel systems and transmission with combined angle/intensity modulated optical signals. The simulations showed good results at both 10 and 40 Gbit/s. Laboratory experiments were made at 10 Gbit/s to verify the simulation results.
