Abstract:

This paper proposed precoding of OFDM signal using Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) and adding of Log companding algorithm so as to reduce PAPR. Three scenarios were considered to fully examine the effect of PAPR in OFDM system based on simulations conducted in MATLAB environment while varying the number of subcarriers, N = 64 and 256. Initial simulation using conventional OFDM showed high PAPR in transmitted signal for N = 64 and 256, which resulted in PAPR of 9.741 and 11.41 dB respectively. Abstract:

AbstractPurpose: This study investigated the periprocedural complication rates, long-term outcome, and restenosis of endovascular treatment for intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICS) at our hospital.Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 217 patients comprising 256 endovascular treatments for high-grade symptomatic ICS. The lesion was located in the internal carotid artery in 77, the middle cerebral artery in 111, the basilar artery in 29, and the vertebral artery in 39. Patients were divided into two groups, before (early-phase group, 1999–2013) and after approval of Wingspan (late-phase group, 2014–2017).Results: In the early-phase group (n = 163), 157 lesions were treated by balloon angioplasty and 31 (17%) by coronary stenting. In the late-phase group (n = 54), 33 lesions were treated by balloon angioplasty and 35 (52%) by Wingspan stenting. Overall technical success rates were 96% in the balloon angioplasty and 100% in stenting groups. The 30-day rate of stroke, TIA, and death were 4.8% in the early-phase group and 4.4% in the late-phase group. There was one minor stroke and two TIAs during the follow-up period in the late-phase group.Conclusions: Endovascular treatment for symptomatic ICS in this study appeared to be safe and effective if patients are properly selected. However, future well-designed randomized trials with different techniques and modified patients selection criteria are certainly warranted.

Abstract:

Abstract Drought is an important stress phenomenon in Bangladesh that greatly hampers crop production. So, it is imperative to develop drought-tolerant rice varieties. Low-yielding, non-uniform flowering and late-maturing Africa rice - New Rice for Africa (NERICA), viz. NERICA-1, NERICA-4 and NERICA-10 varieties - were irradiated with different doses of gamma-rays (250, 300 and 350 Gy) in 2010. M1 plants were grown and M<sub>2</sub> plants were selected based on earliness and higher grain yield. The desired mutants along with other mutants were grown as the M<sub>3</sub> generation during 2011. A total of 37 mutants from NERICA-1, NERICA-4 and NERICA-10 were selected on the basis of plant height, short duration, drought tolerance and high yield in the M<sub>4</sub> generation. In the M<sub>5</sub> generation, six mutants were selected for drought tolerance, earliness, grain quality and higher yield. With respect to days to maturity and grain yield (t/ha), the mutant N<sub>1</sub>/250/P-2-6-1 of NERICA-1 matured earlier (108 days) and had higher grain yield (5.1 t/ha) than the parent. The mutant N<sub>4</sub>/350/P-4(5) of NERICA-4 also showed a higher grain yield (6.2 t/ha) than its parent and other mutants. On the other hand, NERICA-10 mutant N<sub>10</sub>/350/P-5-4 matured earlier and had a higher yield (4.5 t/ha) than its parent. Finally, based on agronomic performance and drought tolerance, the two mutants N<sub>4</sub>/350/P-4(5) and N<sub>10</sub>/350/P-5-4 were selected and were evaluated in drought-prone and upland areas during 2016 and 2017. These two mutants performed well with higher grain yield than the released upland rice varieties. They will be released soon for commercial cultivation and are anticipated to play a vital role in food security in Bangladesh.

Abstract:

Abstract The irradiated pollen technique (IPT) is the most successful haploidization technique within Cucurbitaceae. The influence of gamma-ray doses (250, 350, 450 and 550 Gy), genotypes and stage of development of embryos obtained by IPT on the induction of haploid embryos were studied in several Iranian melon cultivars as well as their hybrids with alien cultivars. Female flowers were pollinated using pollen that had been irradiated with gamma rays. Different shapes and stages of embryos were excised 21-25 days after pollination and cultured on E20A medium. Direct culture, liquid culture and integrated culture methods were used; integrated culture and liquid culture methods showed advantages in increasing the efficiency of haploid plant production in melon breeding programmes. Results revealed that 550 Gy of gamma irradiation was successful in inducing parthenogenesis and fruit development, whereas lower irradiation doses were not effective in inducing haploid embryos. The percentages of embryos per seed were the highest in 'Samsoori' (1.2%) and 'Saveh' (1.1%) cultivars. Some of the heart-shaped and cotyledon-shaped embryos developed into haploid plants. In total, 52 parthenogenic melon plantlets were recovered from 274 embryos via IPT. AbstractVarious contextual factors contribute to teachers’ failure to employ effective differentiated instruction in classroom practices. This is evident in the high drop-out rate of South African students. These students mostly attend schools in lower income and rural areas that are poorly resourced and where teachers are not always trained to support students and apply differentiated instruction in the classroom. The study aimed to establish from students’ observations and teachers’ perceptions to what extent differentiated instruction is employed in classrooms. Data was collected in public secondary schools (n = 25) of the Gauteng Province in South Africa, using a quantitative approach. The social context of these schools still embodies poverty, lack of educational opportunities and resources, and overcrowded classrooms (ratio 1:40). Two questionnaires were completed, one by secondary school students (n = 4510) and another by teachers (n = 424). Contradictions were detected when students’ observations of their teachers’ differentiated classroom practices were compared with their teachers’ perceptions. Findings showed that teachers did not always establish if students understood the content and did not always know what their difficulties were. The possible reasons could be inadequate training of teachers to identify students’ learning barriers and to create and implement differentiated activities; teachers experiencing a lack of time to complete the curriculum; a lack of resources; teaching large classes; and an inability to manage and maintain discipline in classes.

AbstractOrogenic gold deposits formed in various terranes of most ages since the Paleoarchean and generally consist of quartz veins hosted in shear zones formed at the ductile brittle transition under greenschist to lower amphibolite metamorphic conditions. Vein mineralogy is dominated by quartz with various amounts of silicates, carbonates, phyllosilicates, borates, tungstates, sulfides, and oxides. The isotopic composition of these minerals and fluid inclusions has been investigated since the 1960s to constrain the characteristics of orogenic fluid systems involved in the formation of gold deposits worldwide. This review is based on 8580 stable isotope analyses, including δ18O, δD, δ13C, δ34S δ15N, δ11B, and δ30Si values, from 5478 samples from 558 orogenic gold deposits reported in the literature from 1960 to 2010. This contribution describes the variability of the light stable isotopic systems as function of the minerals, the age of the deposits, their regional setting, and their country rocks. The temperature of isotopic equilibrium of orogenic gold veins is estimated from mineral pairs for oxygen and sulfur isotopes. Based on these temperatures, and on fractionation between mineral and fluid components (H2O, CO2 and H2S), the isotopic composition of fluids is estimated to better constrain the main parameters shared by most of auriferous orogenic fluid systems. Orogenic gold deposits display similar isotopic features through time, suggesting that fluid conditions and sources leading to the formation of orogenic gold deposits did not change significantly from the Archean to the Cenozoic. No consistent secular variations of mineral isotope composition for oxygen (−8.1‰ ≤ δ18O ≤ 33‰, n = 4011), hydrogen (−187‰ ≤ δD ≤ −4‰, n = 246), carbon (−26.7‰ ≤ δ13C ≤ 12.3‰, n = 1179), boron (−21.6‰ ≤ δ11B ≤ 9‰, n = 119), and silicon (−0.5‰ ≤ δ30Si ≤ 0.8‰, n = 33) are documented. Only nitrogen (1.6‰ ≤ δ15N ≤ 23.7‰, n = 258) and sulfide sulfur from deposits hosted in sedimentary rocks (−27.2‰ ≤ δ34S ≤ 25‰, n = 717) display secular variations. For nitrogen, the change in composition is interpreted to record the variation of δ15N values of sediments devolatilized during metamorphism. For sulfur, secular variations reflect incorporation of local sedimentary sulfur of ultimate seawater origin. No significant variation of temperature of vein formation is documented for orogenic gold deposits of different ages. Quartz-silicate, quartz-carbonate and sulfide-sulfide mineral pairs display consistent temperatures of 360 ± 76 °C (1σ; n = 332), in agreement with the more common greenschist facies hostrocks and fluid inclusion microthermometry. Fluid sources for orogenic gold deposits are complex but the isotopic systems (hydrogen, boron, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur) are most consistent with contributions from metamorphic fluids released by devolatilization of igneous, volcano-sedimentary and/or sedimentary rocks. The contribution of magmatic water exsolved from magma during crystallization is not a necessary component, even if permissible in specific cases. Isotopic data arrays can be interpreted as the result of fluid mixing between a high T (~550 °C)—high δ18O (~10‰)—low δD (~−60‰) deep-seated (metamorphic) fluid reservoir and a low T (~200 °C)—low δ18O (~2‰)—high δD (~0‰) upper crustal fluid reservoir in a number of orogenic gold deposits. The origin of the upper crustal fluid is most likely sea- or meteoric water filling the host rock porosity, with a long history of water–rock isotope exchange. Mixing of deep-seated and upper crustal fluids also explains the large variation of tourmaline δ11B values from orogenic gold veins. Regional spatial variations of oxygen and hydrogen isotope compositions of deep-seated fluid reservoirs are documented between orogenic gold districts. This is the case for the Val-d’Or (Abitibi), Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie (Yilgarn) where the oxygen isotope composition of the deep-seated fluid end-member is 4‰ lower compared to that from the Timmins, Larder Lake, and Kirkland Lake districts (Abitibi). However, both mixing trends converge towards a common, low δ18O upper crustal fluid end-member. Such variations cannot be related to fluid buffering at the site of deposition and suggest provinciality of the fluid source. The contribution of meteoric water is mainly recorded by fluid inclusions from Mesozoic and Cenozoic age deposits, but micas are not systematically in isotopic equilibrium with fluid inclusions trapped in quartz from the same vein. This suggests late involvement of meteoric water unrelated to deposit formation. Yet, a number of deposits with low δD mica may record infiltration of meteoric water in orogenic gold deposits. Isotope exchange between mineralizing fluid and country rocks is documented for oxygen, carbon, sulfur and silicon isotopes. Large variations (> 10‰) of sulfide δ34S values at the deposit scale are likely related to evolving redox conditions of the mineralizing fluid during reaction with country rocks. Deposits hosted in sedimentary rocks show a shift to higher δ18O values as a result of fluid/rock oxygen exchange with the regional sedimentary country rocks.

This paper continued the study of the complexity behavior of the satisfiability analysis of hard random formulas given in the conjunctive normal form (CNF). In the 3-CNF formula, each clause contains three literals of logical variables. The number of logical variables in the formula is N. In this paper, the SAT solver is improved by introducing equality reduction and pure literal identification procedures. The solver improvement reduced the exponent (with base 2) from N/20.86 to N/21.41 with an R=4.6 ratio of the number of clauses to the number of variables. The results show that the efficiency of the pure literals identification procedure decreases as R increases. An important part of the study is an empirical estimation of the algorithmic complexity of the SAT problem with large number of variables. The proposed method gives a convenient lower bound on the complexity of analysis for random 3-CNF formulas. We estimated the algorithmic complexity for the range N=256÷8192. The exponential dependence of complexity on N for random 3-CNF formulas at a fixed value of R is demonstrated in this range.

The results of a computational experiment on the assessment of the complexity of proving the unsatisfiability of random 3-CNF logical formulas are presented. The dependence of the complexity of this proving on the R-ratio of the number of clauses to the number of variables is demonstrated. The computational experiment was carried out for the range of the N-number of variables from 256 to 512. An exponential dependence of the median complexity of proving the unsatisfiability of formulas on the number of variables was revealed for each of R value: 4.3, 4.6, 5.0, 5.5, 6.0. A formula is constructed that approximates the results of the experiment. According to this formula the exponential component of the median complexity of the analysis of random 3-CNF is estimated as 2 to the power N / (8.4R-17.8).
