Abstract:
This article is dedicated to examination of lexical means of the comic in humorous stories of Nikolay Nosov. The article conducts systemic analysis, examines the achievement of comic potential in writer’s approaches via specific examples: irony, paradox, personification, tautology, and words formed in accordance with children etymology. The question is raised on the distinctness of Nosov’s humor and its lexical expression. Special attention is given to the analysis of psychology and behavior of the characters in particular situations, as well as determination of the original child’s way of thinking that differs from the adults. The scientific novelty is defined by an attempt of systemic analysis of lexical means for creating comic effect in the humorous stories of Nikolay Nosov. The relevance of this work on the one hand is substantiated by continued interest of the Russian and foreign researchers to the works of N. Nosov, and on the other – consists in comprehension of the insufficiently studied lexical means of the comic in his stories. The conducted analysis demonstrates the peculiarity of Nosov’s humor in creating comic effect, revelation of character of the heroes, and specificities of the children’s way of thinking.

Abstract:
This article is dedicated to the analysis of theatrical tradition, which is a manifestation of the game principle in the stories by N. N. Nosov, and is closely associated with life experience and pursuits of the writer. The author carries out a systemic analysis, reviews the embodiment of theatrical traditions on the specific examples, and reveals that in the works of N. N. Nosov, the theatrical principle is reflected in acquisition of the peculiarities of dramatic genres (dialogization, explicit conflict, primacy of action over description, use of declamation, role game as a plot element). Such tools allow creating a comic effect, depict the true character traits of the heroes, convey a bright and creative childhood atmoshpere. The scientific novelty of this research consists in comprehensive analysis of the  theatrical tradition in the works of N. N. Nosov. The relevance is substantiated by insufficient study of the topic of theatrical tradition in the stories by N. N. Nosov, as well as by heightened interest towards his works. The acquired conclusions cab be used in studying literary heritage of the writer. The interpretations of texts offered in this article may valuable in staging the works of N. N. Nosov in the theater or cinematography.

Abstract:
Abstract The relevance of the research is due to the interest of modern science in the successful experience of comprehending social reality and of social forecasting in forms nontrivial for systematic rational thinking. T topic is especially important in the context of global instability, in which human civilization has been living for the last decades. The main question is the possible existence of a critical philosophy in terms of the ideological pressure of the Soviet period. The author substantiates the hypothesis that children’s literature could be a form of free development of philosophical thinking, permissible in these circumstances. The research is of practical value to humanities scholars studying Soviet and post-Soviet period Russian culture, literature, philosophy, regardless of their theoretical and ideological orientations, since it examines the philosophical aspects in the works by the Soviet children’s writer Nikolai Nosov, author of trilogy about Dunno (rus. Neznajka), and not well-known abroad. The article justifies the opinion that Nosov’s creative heritage is underestimated both in Russian and foreign humanities and not sufficiently analyzed. Through the analysis of N. Nosov’s texts, undertaken by Russian and foreign scholars and publicists (among which L. Abdel-Rahim and L. Karawan deserve a special mention), implicit social and philosophical ideas are revealed, and the basic social forecasting is determined in relation to the society of ‘developed socialism’. Marxist philosophy had a significant impact on N. Nosov’s worldview; however, the writer is alien to the ideological blinders of the dominant forms of Soviet philosophy. Nosov’s Marxism in the form of popular ‘children’s’ discourse suddenly finds itself able to effectively implement critical and prognostic function of philosophy. Being decades ahead of Soviet ideologists and philosophers in this respect, N. Nosov convincingly showed the problem nature of ‘developed socialism’. An important diagnosis of this society and a forecast for its future is possible ‘breakdown’ of the historical process (despite scientific and technical achievements) due to the insufficient level of culture and consciousness, the immaturity of social relations.

Abstract:
This article analyzes the translations of charactonyms into Uzbek, which werefound in N. N. Nosov’s fairy - tale novels “The Adventures of Dunno and his Friends”, “Dunno in the Sunny City” and A. S. Nekrasov’s story “The Adventures of Captain Vrungel”. The article presents opinions on the transfer of descriptive names, their classification, difficulties and techniques of their translation from Russian into Uzbek. The artistic and aesthetic task, assigned to them, is revealed, as well as aspects of their “translatability” and “untranslatability” are presented. These two approaches are considered on the example of the works of N. Nosov and A. Nekrasov. The article proves that thecharactonyms, given by N. Nosov to the heroes of the work, based on character, appearance, profession, from the names of flora and fauna and objects, are translated into Uzbek without losing the artistic and aesthetic significance assigned to them by the author. When translating the story of A. Nekrasov into Uzbek, in opinion of the author of the article, in order to preserve the national specifics of the work, according to the theory of “untranslatability”, it is advisable to leave the descriptive names (surnames formed from male names, names of professions, nicknames, etc.) as they are given in the original.

Abstract:
The article considers the poetics of the grotesque and the absurd in the literature for children, in particular, the stories of T. Sobakin (“The Bald Monster”, “Motya”, “Then I Thought”), N. Nosov (“Dreamers”), M. Yessenovsky (“Ur-Yur-vyr”), as well as poems by A. Givargizov (“Unusual”), A. Orlova (“I am growing...”) and A. Usachev (“Vobla and the magazine”). Ideas about the wholeness of images and their harmony towards the created artistic reality are considered key characteristics for both concepts. So, absurd images are created by multiple points of view and contradictions between them, they clearly express the border between the ordinary and the implausible. The elements there are not completely combined and can be separated from each other by the means of imagination. Grotesque images in literature for children, created by objectifying individual elements or combining plans that do not contradict each other, are more natural and can also be visualized, and that is what distinguishes grotesque and absurdity from nonsense. The physicality and the variability of the image remain the most common ways of creating the grotesque in children’s literature. The grotesque and absurd does not depend on the fantastic assumption, which allows such images to exist both inside and outside the category of the fantastic.

One of the most popular styles in Russian architecture at the turn of the XIX and XX centuries is Art Nouveau. This is a special direction in architecture, the influence of which we see in painting and sculpture. Art Nouveau, passes several stages of its development from early Art Nouveau (end of XIX century) to romantic (end of XIX century - beginning of XX century) and rationalistic Art Nouveau (1910s). The article deals with the architectural features of a unique example of wooden Art Nouveau, the mansion of V. D. Nosov, built by the famous architect L. N. Kekushev in 1903 (romantic stage). The question of the preservation and use of this object is raised, and an alternative project proposal is put forward, which helps to adapt the general plan to the proposed function of the object with the least material costs.

Abstract:
In the following article, we explore the ways to create a comic effect in the in the stories of the modern Yakut children’s writer A. Borisova Zapiski dlya moikh potomkov (Notes for My Descendants). The comedic tropes are analyzed on three levels: the characters, the situations, and the language. Children's literature has always been particularly humorous and entertaining, which is vividly seen in the works of the best domestic children's writers (N. Nosov, V. Dragunsky, V. Golyavkin etc.). Because of this, in literary criticism and linguistics there is an extensive classification of various techniques for creating a comedic effect. E. Garanina, N. M. Rotanova, I. V. Tsikusheva and others are engaged in the study of these techniques using children's literature as their research material. Nevertheless, the major works are still devoted to the issues of linguistic comedic effects which determines the relevance of this study. The comic effect of the story by A. Borisova is achieved in several ways, including those of non-literary nature, for example, theatrical circus in the form of classic buffoonery. The comedy is delivered by the main character of the story – the restless girl Valentinka whose defining trait is her ability to get into various funny situations. Valentine’s character is outlined from different sides; the negative sides of the girl are, too, shown to the reader. Because of this, the author emphasizes that the protagonist is a realistic character with all the positive and negative traits typical for real people. Thus the author achieves one of the goals of children’s literature: to convey the important moral and moral values to the child reader using the example of a young protagonist. The comedic elements of fictional situations are based on unexpected or comic contrast caused by a misunderstandings. Language-based comedy is represented quite widely and is based on various types of wordplay, for example, using polysemy, phraseological units or language paradoxes, incorrect word reproduction and imitation of word formation typical for children’s speech. Summing up, we can say that the stories of the Yakut author A. Borisova Zapiski dlya moikh potomkov (Notes for My Descendants) demonstrate various ways of creating a comic effect on a variety of text levels.

Abstract:
Introduction. At the present stage, the expansion of the range of interests of preschool children is a social order of society for the preschool education system. One of the important tasks of modern education is the development of various forms of personal activity of children, including the development of emotional intelligence. Modern pedagogy faces many problems of a psychological nature. One of the most relevant is the low level of emotional intelligence development. In pedagogical practice, certain difficulties of interaction with preschoolers through the emotional-volitional sphere are noted: features of internal experiences and their influence on the behavioral sphere; a vivid expression of the emotional response; emotional disorders in the form of increased anxiety and fatigue; lack of formation of empathy and empathy; unjustified feelings of fear, etc. Materials and methods. To collect the results, we used theoretical and empirical methods: pedagogical diagnostics, observation, questionnaires, and statistical processing of the research results (Pearson's chi-squared test). The study involved teachers, masters, bachelors of the Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University (Russian Federation), as well as children (N = 139), parents, teachers and heads of educational organizations. The results of the study. The program was created and tested for the development of emotional intelligence using works of art, including game-fairy tales, exercises, sketches on fairy-tale plots, and advisory material; in creating and conducting generalizing diagnostics for the development of emotional intelligence, identifying new forms of educational activities and components of the educational process. The study conducted using the chi-square test showed statistical differences (p < 0,05) in the results of the diagnostic data of the ascertaining and control stages, which confirms the effectiveness of the development of emotional intelligence of preschoolers by means of artistic works and methods of fairy-tale therapy. In conclusion, the ways to optimize and solve the problems are outlined.

Abstract:
The article first gives a general view of children reading of fiction in Siberia and the Far East. The relevance of studying children reading is determined by its great social and pedagogical potential. The study objectives are: 1) to identify popular children genres of literature; 2) to recreate the repertoire of favorite authors and their works; 3) to compare the range of reading of Siberian and Far Eastern young people with the reading of their age mates from other regions of the country; 4) to identify main factors forming readers demand of the younger generation. The study has shown that fairy tales, fantasy, detectives, adventures, historic and love stories are the most popular among children. National and foreign writers of the XIX - early XXI centuries are called among the children's favorite authors: A. Barto, M. Bulgakov, A. Volkov, A. Green, A. Dumas, A. Ishimova, A. Lindgren, S. Marshak, A. Milne, N. Nosov, A. Pushkin, M. Reed, M. Twain, L. Charskaya, E. Uspensky and many others. The comparison was made between reading literature by children from Transurals and the European part of Russia. Similarity in the repertoire of reading, favorite genres and authors is proved. Selection of literary works is determined by children personal interests and the curriculum content. Therefore, reading fiction is both leisure and business. Reading fiction on the pupils’ personal choice is usually considered as leisure. Reading literature for educational purposes is related to business. The article pays attention to the difficulty of separating leisure reading from business one when it concerns reading fiction by students. Growing readers’ interest in picturized literary works is marked. This article was written on a wide range of sources and research literature.

Abstract:
Ovules (seeds) of Ginkgo gomolitzkyana N. Nosova, sp. nov. are described from the Angrenian Formation of the Middle Jurassic in Angren, Uzbekistan. Ovules are attached to pedicels with a collar at bases. Collar diameter of G. gomolitzkyana is similar to that of G. ginkgoidea from the Middle Jurassic of Sweden and G. apodes from the Lower Cretaceous of China. Unfortunately the epidermal structures of the two last species are not described. Epidermal patterns of the outer surface of the collar of G. gomolitzkyana are similar to those of G. yimaensis. Lack of data on the structures of the collar inner surface of G. gomolitzkyana does not allow any detailed comparison. G. yimaensis differs from G. gomolitzkyana by 1.5โ€”2 times larger collar diameter. The ovules (seeds) of G. gomolitzkyana are similar to the ovules (seeds) of G. ginkgoidea, G. yimaensis, G. apodes, G. cranei and Ginkgo sp. (Deng et al., 2004), but they are smaller. The cuticle of the integument and the nucellus cuticle of G. apodes and Ginkgo sp. are not described, what does not allow a comparison with them. G. cranei, unlike G. gomolitzkyana, has thicker outer cuticle of integument and lacking papillae on the subsidiary cells of the stomata. The structures of megaspore membrane are studied only for G. ginkgoidea and G. yimaensis. They are similar to the structures of G. biloba and G. gomolitzkyana. Megaspore membrane of G. ginkgoidea is thicker, than that of G. gomolitzkyana. The dimensions of lacuna and bacula of G. ginkgoidea are not specified. The bacula of the megaspore membrane of G. yimaensis are smaller, than those of G. gomolitzkyana. In addition, G. yimaensis differs from the new species by the curved anticlinal cell walls of the outer integument epidermis. Unlike G. gomolitzkyana anticlinal cell walls of the nucellus of G. ginkgoidea are sometimes sinuous and mostly puncticulate. The seeds of G. biloba are five times larger than seeds of G. gomolitzkyana. The thickness of the outer integument cuticle of the living species is larger and the bacula of the megaspore membrane are thicker. This is the first record of the female reproductive structure of Ginkgo from the Jurassic in the Middle Asia.

Full text
Abstract:
The genus Mirovia was established by M. Reymanowna in 1985 for a single species M. szaferi Reymanowna described from the Middle Jurassic of southern Poland and originally referred to the ginkgoaleans. Later, M. N. Bose and S. Manum (1990) assigned it to the conifers, having chosen Mirovia as the type genus of the new family Miroviaceae. The leaves of Mirovia are dimorphic — long and short. Long leaves are linear or lanceolate, short leaves being ⅓—.⁄₁₅ of the long ones, ovate-lanceolate, obovate or oval. Leaves are tapering towards the base, which is sometimes twisted. In some leaves, a small, 1—2 mm long, area at the base is plicate (pl. I, fig. 1—3, pl. II, fig. 7, 8, pl. V, fig. 3; Reymanowna, 1985, pl. I, fig. 2, 3, text-fig. A, M; Nosova, Wcisło-Luraniec, 2007, pl. 1, fig. 1, 13). Sometimes an abscission scar is preserved (pl. I, fig. 3, 4; Reymanowna, 1985, pl. I, fig. 2, 4; Nosova, Wcisło-Luraniec, 2007, pl. 1, fig. 13). There are two veins and 2—7 resin ducts in the leaf mesophyll. The leaves of Mirovia are characterized by stomata arranged in a single zone on the abaxial side of the leaf, which is not embedded into groove. Records of Mirovia leaves are rather numerous in the Jurassic to the Cretaceous of Arctic Canada, Greenland, Europe, Middle Asia, Siberia and Far East (Florin 1922; Samylina, 1961, 1963; Abramova, 1985; Kiritchkova, 1985; Reymanowna, 1985; Manum, 1987; Bose, Manum, 1990; Manum et al., 1991; Hvalj, 1997; Watson et al., 2001; Nosova, 2001; Nosova, Wcisło-Luraniec, 2007; Gordenko, 2007, 2008; Nosova, Kiritchkova, 2008; Bugdaeva, Markevich, 2009). For the first time, remains of Mirovia is reported here from the Late Cretaceous of the Sverdlovsk oblast’ (the Urals) and from the Tambov oblast’ (European Russia, age unknown). The epidermal structure of the leaves from the Sverdlovsk oblast’ fi ts the diagnosis of M. neosibirica (L. Abramova) N. Nosova from the Cenomanian-Turonian of the New Siberian Islands (Russia) (Abramova, 1985; Nosova, 2001; Nosova, Wcisło-Luraniec, 2007). The single leaf of Mirovia from the Tambov oblast’ has similar morphological and epidermal features to the leaves of M. szaferi from the Bathonian of Poland (Reymanowna, 1985; Nosova, Wcisło-Luraniec, 2007). The epidermal structure of the leaves from the Early Cretaceous of the Lena coal basin (Eastern Siberia), identifi ed as M. macrophylla (Florin) N. Nosova (Nosova, Wcisło-Luraniec, 2007), was studied in detail. The diagnosis of M. sibirica (Samyl.) M. N. Bose et Manum (Samylina, 1963; Bose, Manum, 1990) from the Berriasian—Valanginian of the Lena coal basin is emended. The leaves of Mirovia from the Bajocian of Norway (M. macrophylla), the Kimmeridgian of Scotland (M. scotica (Florin) N. Nosova), and the Albian of West Greenland (M. hallei (Florin) N. Nosova), stored in the Museum of Natural History of Sweden (Stockholm), are reconsidered. Diagnostic features of Mirovia leaves are discussed and an emended diagnosis of the genus is provided.

Abstract:
Leaf fragments with an epidermal structure confidently suggesting their affinity to the genus Phoenicopsis Heer (Czekanowskiales) have been discovered for the first time in the Jurassic of Mangyshlak (Kazakhstan). Representatives of this genus were previously identified n this flora based on the morphological characters of the leaf compressions only. Two new species of the subgenus Phoenicopsis are described, P. insolita N. Nosova et Kiritch., sp. nov. and P. sauranica N. Nosova et Kiritch., sp. nov., as well as a species of the subgenus Culgoweria, P. tanynbaica N. Nosova et Kiritch., sp. nov. The stomatal topography of P. kilpperiana (Schweitzer et Kirchner) Kiritch. has been re-examined in greater detail on the basis of the available type material from the Early Jurassic of Iran.

Background. Extraperitoneal radical prostatectomy (RP) in patients with prostate cancer is useful when there are no oncological indications to lymph node dissection (e.g. in low and intermediate-low risk of the disease), and allows to perform precise anastomosis and facilitates the early postoperative period. However, even minimally invasive approach does not avoid such factors as a urinary catheter that may disturb patients.Objective. We assessed the possibility to remove the urinary catheter as early as possible.Materials and methods. 28 patients with low (n = 22) and low-intermediate (n = 6) prostate cancer risk (according to NCCN (National Comprehensive Cancer Network) criteria) underwent an extraperitoneal laparoscopic RP from March 2017 to November 2018. All operations were performed by the same surgeon (A. Nosov). The inclusion criteria were the following: localized prostate cancer, prostate specific antigen (PSA) <10 ng/ml, ISUP group 1–2, life expectancy of more than 10 years and preoperative patient’s counseling (awareness about early catheter removal and discharge). All patients were continent before surgery. During surgery, the prostate and seminal vesicles were removed extraperitoneally without peritoneal cavity opening and conversion. Bladder neck sparing was performed in all cases but nerve-vascular bundles were spared according to indication (preoperative International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF), oncological reasons). Vesicourethral anastomosis was performed by two V-Loc circular sutures. No drainage tubes were inserted to control bleeding/urinary leakage. A urinary catheter Foley 20 Fr was inserted into the bladder after anastomosis completion. No other urinary drainage (suprapubic tubes, etc) was used. Anastomosis resistance and completeness were checked at the end of surgery by filling the bladder with 150 ml of saline through the catheter. Except for cases with macroscopic hematuria, urinary catheters were removed on the 1st postoperative day’s morning (<24 hours) with an active followup (daily voiding assessment, pelvic ultrasound and postvoided residual volume assessment) on Day 1. Immediately after the catheter removal, alpha-blockers (for urination alleviation) and PDE-5 inhibitors (in patients with neurovascular sparing) were prescribed. All patients were available for a 3-month follow-up. During the follow-up, a monthly combined assessment was performed, including IPSS, QoL, PSA analysis, pelvic ultrasound and urofloumetry.Results. The average patient’s age was 63 years (52–71 years). The median preoperative PSA level was 7.6 ng/ml. The intraoperative technique was unremarkable with no blood transfusion or conversion. All early postoperative complications were classified as minor – grade I, II and IIIa in 2 (7.2 %), 5 (17.8 %) and 1 (3.6 %) patients, respectively. Related to the early catheter removal complications included 1 (3.6 %) patient with urinary leakage (resolved by repeated prolonged urinary catheter insertion) and 4 (14.3 %) with urinary obstruction – resolved by single catheterization (n = 2), percutaneous suprapubic cystostomy (n = 2). No major complications were noticed during the follow-up. Totally, 22 (78.6 %) patients were discharged on the next day after the catheter removal – on the 2nd postoperative day. All discharged patients did not need readmission during the follow-up. Remained 6 (21.4 %) patients stayed at the hospital for 5–18 days. The pathological investigation showed upgrading in 9 (32.1 %) patients with low risk and in 1 (3.6 %) patient with low-intermediate risk. Upstaging to locally advanced forms was noticed in 6 (21.4 %) patients. All patients had the PSA level of <0.2 ng/ml 30–90 days after surgery. Postoperative assessment showed improvement in urinary function and erectile function sparing in selected patients, with no compromising functional results due to the early catheter removal.Conclusion. Despite the common widespread of minimally invasive RP, there is no consensus on the terms of a urinary catheter removal. According to our data, we suggested it might be of some benefit to remove a urinary catheter early in selected and well-informed patients. A thorough vesicourethral anastomosis pursuance, nerve-sparing, bladder neck sparing and Retzius sparing procedure, intraand postoperative assessment is necessary in all cases.

Abstract:
Diagnostic features are systematized for the leaf epidermal structure of the Leptotoma Kiritch. et Samyl. The study of the new findings and the revision of the type material of L. kryshtofovichii Srebrod. et Samyl. from the Early Cretaceous of Eastern Transbaikalia reveal the occurrence of occasional stomata on the lateral epidermis as well as the presence of a central or proximal papilla on the subsidiary cells of the stomata, which allows to emend the specific diagnosis. The same sediments yield L. baikalica N. Nosova, sp. nov., that differs considerably from other Leptotoma species in its peculiar set of epidermal characters. For the first time, discrete resin ducts are found in the leaves of Leptotoma. The revision of type specimens of L. tenuis Samyl. and L. prynadae Travina from the Middle Jurassic of Kansk-Achinsk Coal Basin (Krasnoyarsk kray) suggests their affinity to Baiera. The re-investigation of the type material of L. borealis Travina and L. sibirica Kiritch. et Batjaeva from the Jurassic of Western Siberia indicates that these species should be merged, with L. sibirica kept as the priority name. For the first time for the Lower Cretaceous, findings of Leptotoma leaves are reported from the Maastrichtian of the Amur oblast (L. samylinae N. Nosova, sp. nov.).

Abstract:
Pain is associated with negative affect such as anxiety and depression. The amygdala plays a key role in emotionality and has been shown to undergo neuroplastic changes in models of affective disorders. Many neurons in the central nucleus of the amygdala (CeA) are driven by nociceptive inputs, but the role of the amygdala in persistent pain states is not known. This study is the first to address nociceptive processing by CeA neurons in a model of prolonged pain. Extracellular single-unit recordings were made from 41 CeA neurons in anesthetized rats. Each neuron's responses to brief mechanical stimulation of joints, muscles, and skin and to cutaneous thermal stimuli were recorded. Background activity, receptive field size, and threshold were mapped, and stimulus-response functions were constructed. These parameters were measured repeatedly before and after induction of arthritis in one knee by intraarticular injections of kaolin and carrageenan. Multireceptive (MR) amygdala neurons ( n = 20) with excitatory input from the knee joint responded more strongly to noxious than to innocuous mechanical stimuli of deep tissue ( n = 20) and skin ( n = 11). After induction of arthritis, 18 of 20 MR neurons developed enhanced responses to mechanical stimuli and expansion of receptive field size. These changes occurred with a biphasic time course (early peak: 1–1.5 h; persistent plateau phase: after 3–4 h). Responses to thermal stimuli did not change (7 of 7 neurons), but background activity (16 of 18 neurons) and electrically evoked orthodromic activity (11 of 12 neurons) increased in the arthritic state. Nociceptive-specific (NS) neurons ( n = 13) showed no changes of their responses to mechanical, thermal, and electrical stimulation after induction of arthritis. A third group of neurons did not respond to somesthetic stimuli under control conditions (noSOM neurons; n = 8) but developed prolonged responses to mechanical, but not thermal, stimuli in arthritis (5 of 8 neurons). These data suggest that prolonged pain is accompanied by enhanced responsiveness of a subset of CeA neurons. Their sensitization to mechanical, but not thermal, stimuli argues against a nonspecific state of hyperexcitability. MR neurons could serve to integrate and evaluate information in the context of prolonged pain. Recruitment of noSOM neurons increases the gain of amygdala processing. NS neurons preserve the distinction between nociceptive and nonnociceptive inputs.

Abstract:
Among the numerous remains of the Jurassic conifers in the Irkutsk Coal Basin, several types of leafy shoots are distinguished. One type is characterized by the leaves with numerous veins. These remains were described as Podozamites irkutensis N. Nosova et Kiritch. (Nosova et al., 2017). The leaves of other types have a midvein. These leafy shoots are attributed to several taxa: Marskea sp. nov. (in press), Elatocladus falcatus (Heer) Prynada, E. heeriana N. Nosova et Kiritch., sp. nov., Elatocladus sp. and Pagiophyllum sp. Elatocladus falcatus (Heer) Prynada, 1962 (=Elatides falcata Heer, 1976) was described from the deposits of the lower subformation of the Prisayan Formation (the Aalenian) of the Ust’-Baley locality. An epidermal structure of the Elatocladus falcatus leaves is unknown. Here we designate the lectotype for E. falcatus. We have studied the leaf epidermal structure of the leafy shoots from the upper subformation of the Prisayan Formation (the Aalenian-Bajocian) in the localities Topka and Vladimirovka. Based on the morphological and epidermal features, we describe a new species Elatocladus heeriana. The shoots of E. heeriana have with helically arranged leaves. The leaves are sessile and dorsoventrally flattened, linear, lanceolate to falcate, with the tip curving toward the apex of the stem, with the broad and decurrent base and acute apex. The leaves are hypostomatic. They are characterized by straight to undulating anticlinal cell walls of the abaxial epidermis near the leaf edge and base. Stomata are arranged in two narrow bands, orientated transversely to irregularly. Subsidiary cells of the stomatal complexes are without papillae. Rare fragments of the Pagiophyllum sp. shoots were found in the deposits of the upper subformation of the Prisayan Formation (the Aalenian–Bajocian) in the localities Olkha and Vladimirovka. Their leaves are falcate, with a median keel on the abaxial side. The bad preservation of the cuticle did not allow us to study the epidermal pattern in details. Stomata are arranged in the bands, orientated irregularly. Subsidiary cells of the stomatal complexes are without papillae. One pollen cone (microstrobilus), attached presumably to the E. heeriana shoot, and several detached pollen cones of Schidolepium gracile Heer (1880) were found. The pollen cones are elongated, with numerous imbricate, helically arranged and dorsoventrally flattened microsporophylls. Sterile part of the microsporophyll expands to the distal lamina with acute apex. Some microsporophylls near the cone base are oval with rounded apex. The numerous microsporangia are visible in the apical part of the mature pollen cone, but a distal lamina of the microsporophylls often is indistinct here. Microsporangia (5–7 per microsporophyll) are elongated, fusiform. Pollen grains are spherical, nonsaccate, with the rugulate-perforate surface, apertures are invisible. The emended diagnosis is provided for the type species S. gracile, as well as the lectotype is designated.

Abstract:
In the result of investigation of new findings, the variability of leaf shape and epidermal characters of Ginkgo pilifera Samyl. were studied. Geographical and stratigraphic ranges of this species were analyzed on the base of new material and earlier published data. This species was described by Samylina (1967) from the upper part of the Timmerdyakh Formation exposed in the Lena-Vilyui depression in Eastern Siberia. After that many new occurrences of this species were reported. G. pilifera was widely distributed from late Albian to Maastrichtian in Asian part of the Siberian-Canadian paleogeographical region. The earliest occurrence was documented from the late Albian-lower Turonian deposits of the Krivorechenskaya Formation, Grebenka River basin, Northeastern Russia. Approximately in the same time (in the Cenomanian) remains of G. pilifera appeared in the lower part of the Timmerdyakh Formation in the Lena-Vilyui depression. In Western Siberia in the late Albian and Cenomanian other species of Ginkgo were found: G. sertensis N. Nosova et Golovn. and G. chlonoviae N. Nosova et Golovn. were described from the Kiya Formation and G. ragosinii N. Nosova et Golovn. and G. tjukansis Kiritch. were described from the Simonovo Formation. In the Turonian and Coniacian G. pilifera was discovered in the upper part of the Timmerdyakh Formation, in the Valizhgen Formation of Yelistratov peninsula in Penzhina Bay area, in volcanogenic deposits of the Kolyma River basin and in the Derevyannye Gory Formation of New Siberia Island. In the Santonian-Campanian this species was reported from the Arkagala Formation of the Kolyma River basin and from two localities in the Amur River basin: from upper part of the Kundur Formation in Russia and from the Taipinglinchang Formation in China. The last occurrence is the most southern finding of this species. In Maastrichtian G. pilifera penetrated in Western Siberia, that significantly increased its area in western direction. The most variable character in G. pilifera morphology is the leaf shape. Leaves change from entire to deep-dissected into several wide lobes with rounded or truncate apices. Dissected forms occured from late Albian to Coniacian and predominated in the Krivorechenskaya (late Albian-lower Turonian) and the Valizhgen (Turonian-Coniacian) Formations Northeastern Russia.During Santonian-Maastrichtian only entire forms were distributed. The variability of epidermal characters is insignificant. The most variable characters are degree of undulation of the anticlinal cell walls, degree of development of cuticular thickenings and number of stomata on adaxial epidermises and number of trichomes on of abaxial and adaxial epidermises. The specific diagnosis of this species was emended. Remains of G. pilifera occur in allochtonous taphocenosis together with other plants characteristic to riparian habitats. Probably, this species was confined to river valleys and was not connected with swamp environments.Paleoecological implication of great number of papillae and trichomes is steel unclear. Emended diagnosis. Leaves broadly fan-shaped, entire with undulate upper margin with several shallow incisions, or, more rarely, dissected into several wide lobes with rounded or truncate apices. Leaves amphistomatic. Anticlinal cell walls of adaxial epidermis sinuous with amplitude up to 2–3 μm; in costal zones sometimes slightly sinuous or straight. Periclinal walls with cuticular dome-shaped thickenings and rare trichomes. Number and development of cuticular thickenings vary in different areas of leaf lamina and in different leaves. Weak development of thickenings usually correlates with increased number of trichomes. Stomata at abaxial epidermis rare; the papillae of subsidiary cells do not cover the stoma completely. Anticlinal cell walls of abaxial epidermis slightly sinuous or straight. Periclinal walls usually with papillae (12-20 μm long), more rarely, smooth. Trichomes (up to 60–100 μm long) occur rather often. Big trichomes usually consist of 2-3 cells. Stomata at adaxial epidermis orientated irregularly, without formation of regular rows, surrounded by five to seven subsidiary cells. Each subsidiary cell bears a proximal papilla up to 15–25 μm long. These papillae completely cover the stoma.

Abstract:
The works of Ukrainian scholars who study local political identity are investigated in the present article. Local identity holds a special place in the structure of political identity affecting the political consciousness and behaviour of local territorial communities, the development of political processes and institutions at the local and regional levels. It is local identity that is primary in the hierarchy of territorial political identities (regional or national), develops the skills of political participation, specifies the features of the political culture within the territorial community. The trends in the study of local political identity in the modern Ukrainian political science are considered: - theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of local identities: concepts, characteristics of the main categories of territorial identities, methodology of study (H. Korzhov, H. Nosova and N. Mikhno); - problems of formation of local identities of united territorial communities, as a necessary condition for their effective development: mechanisms, factors and potential, practices (Ya. Kotenko and A. Tkachuk, N. Natalenko, O. Vrublevsky, O. Dancheva, A. Seitosmanov and E. Chubarov); - territorial identities in the context of the formation of subsidiary democracy, democratic political culture (M. Bryl, T. Panchenko, I. Lutsiuk and S. Matvienkiv); - study of features, factors and mechanisms of formation of local identities of Ukrainian cities, their socio-cultural differences and the level of inclusion in the national process (T. Bevz, O. Zorich, M. Karmazina, O. Musiiezdov, N. Rotar and H. Fesenko). Nevertheless, Ukrainian academic community still is not aware about many issues related to the study of local political identities. Therefore, there are still some relevant research areas: the further study of foreign experience in the formation of local identities; the role of local identity in the formation of social capital of the territory, social solidarity and responsibility; study of local political identity as a factor and resource of territorial development, etc.

Abstract:
The fond of the Chief Prosecutor of the Holy Synod in the Russian State Historical Archive contains a file “On the transformation of the Jerusalem Ecclesiastical Mission into a priorate at the consulate in Jerusalem.” The file has not yet attracted the researchers’ attention; its materials have not been published. The documents dated 1878–79 clarify the events that led to liquidation of the Spiritual Mission in Jerusalem in 1879, Chancellor A. M. Gorchakov’s report to Alexander II of February 13, 1879, in particular. The resolution on the document shows that the report was approved by the emperor. The Spiritual Mission was transformed into a priorate at the consular church in Jerusalem, and thus shut down. The decision was caused by long-term conflict between the Spiritual Mission and the consulate. Both institutions were subordinate to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; its Palestinian Commission was in charge of building infrastructure for pilgrims. Their spheres of activities were not demarcated clearly, resulting in rivalry. The liquidation of the Mission was prompted by the fact that its head, Archimandrite Antonin (Kapustin), acquired land in Palestine with donations sent from Russia. Among the documents there are letters of consul in Jerusalem N. A. Ilarionov and Ambassador to Constantinople A. B. Lobanov-Rostovsky. They shed light on the purchase of land in Palestine by Archimandrite Antoninus. The land procurements were made in the name of a Turkish citizen, an employee of the Spiritual Mission Yakov Halebi, which could have resulted in serious legal and political problems. Antonin ignored all requests of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Holy Synod to straighten out the land title. The consulate had no control over the lands acquired by Antonin, and could not force the archimandrite to transfer them to the Russian government. It was decided to resolve the conflict between the two institutions by lowering the status of the Mission. The project was drafted at the Palestinian Commission with the B. P. Mansurov’s participation. The Holy Synod was notified of the liquidation of the Spiritual Mission when the decision was approved by the emperor. Another important document in the file is a letter from Archimandrite Antonin (Kapustin) to A.S. Norov dated January 10, 1879. The letter informed of the upcoming liquidation of the Spiritual Mission. This letter was handed over by Norov to the Empress Maria Alexandrovna and reported to the Chief Procurator of the Holy Synod. However, this did not prevent the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from transforming the Mission into a priorate. Until 1881, the Mission was titled priorate in all documents. The efforts of the future founders of the Orthodox Palestinian Society, E.V. Putyatin, K.P. Pobedonostsev, and V. N. Khitrovo, managed to halter and, later, to cancel the decision.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the problem of interrelation between spiritual and secular principles in the history of Russian literature, which is topical for modern Russian literary studies and which is revealed on the example of studying pilgrimage literature, including Siberian authors. The practice of pilgrimage journeys to the Holy Land and their descriptions became common among Siberians only in the late 19th century in connection with the opening of the Palestine Society and its regional branches in Russia. However, at the level of images and motifs, pilgrimage travel appears in Siberian travel prose much earlier and enriches its traditional genres — missionary and bishop’s journals and diaries. This thesis is proven in the article using the example of the travel diaries of Bishop Gerasim of Astrakhan and Enotayevsk (1809–1880), in his youth Irkutsk priest Georgii Dobroserdov. First published in the late 1870s, his diaries were written in the 1830s–40s, during the heyday of the genre of the pilgrimage literary journey in the works of D. V. Dashkov, A. N. Muravyov, A. S. Norov and others. Dobroserdov’s diaries are not only close to these works chronologically, but are also similar stylistically: they combine the image of a Christian pilgrim with that of a sensitive sentimental traveller. At the same time, both sentimental and pilgrimage beginnings are forms of artistic generalisation deliberately introduced by the author in texts of a different genre nature — a missionary journal and a diary of a private journey, which originally had no pilgrimage purposes. The sentimental poetics gives the diaries their artistry, and the realisation of the pilgrimage plot gives them the status of a work of spiritual literature. The ideological and stylistic proximity between the works of secular writers and representatives of the clergy, such as A. N. Muravyev and Bishop Gerasim, representatives of central Russia and Siberia, testifies to the unity of the pre-revolutionary historical and literary process.

Abstract:
Complex mineral ammonium nitrate-based fertilizers are complex multicomponent salt systems possessing low thermal stability and prone to self-sustaining decomposition. This leads to the need to increase the requirements for fire and explosion safety in their manufacture, storage and transportation, caused by the fact that ammonium nitrate is a solid oxidant able to support a combustion, and its heating in confined space can lead to detonation. Components that make up such fertilizers can both reduce (phosphates and ammonium sulfate) and accelerate (chlorine compounds) decomposition of ammonium nitrate. Thus, the thermal stability of fertilizers based on ammonium nitrate largely depends on the ratio of the components that make up its composition or formed as a result of the chemical reaction. The simplest way to reduce the content of ammonium nitrate and increase the thermal stability of fertilizer without changing the content of essential nutrients is to increase the degree of phosphoric acid ammoniation. In this paper, the phase composition change of grade 22:11:11 nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium fertilizer obtained with different ammoniation degree in the process of thermal decomposition was studied by X-ray phase analysis. To obtain this fertilizer, wet-process phosphoric acid obtained sulfuric acid attack of the Khibin apatite concentrate by a hemihydrate method is used. It is shown that an increase in the ammoniation degree has a significant effect on the exothermic decomposition of ammonium nitrate and the amount of material that is released into the gas phase. The phases formed at each stage of the decomposition are determined.Forcitation:Gorbovskiy K.G., Ryzhova A.S., Norov A.M., Pagaleshkin D.A., Kalinina V.N., Mikhaylichenko A.I. Abstract:
The main objective of this work is to determine the possibility of obtaining aluminum fluoride from fluorosilicic acid, a waste product of wet-process phosphoric acid production, and hydrated aluminum oxide, which can be obtained by acid or acid-salt processing of Kola nepheline concentrate. The article presents a study on obtaining hydrated aluminum oxide from nepheline concentrate by hydrosulfate processing and determining the X-ray phase and chemical composition of the obtained sample. It is shown that hydrated aluminum oxide has amorphous structure with a tendency to exhibit crystallizing phase reflexes, as well as an increased content of ammonium sulfate impurity. A study was conducted on obtaining aluminum fluoride from aluminum hydroxide in order to develop a comparison sample. A study was conducted on obtaining aluminum fluoride from hydrated aluminum oxide under process parameters similar to those used in industrial production. X-ray phase and chemical analysis of the developed samples was performed. It is shown that the comparison sample obtained from aluminum hydroxide corresponds to the highest grade of aluminum fluoride. It is identified that when using hydrated aluminum oxide, it is possible to obtain aluminum fluoride from fluorosilicate acid. It is shown that aluminum fluoride obtained from hydrated aluminum oxide has a deviation from the first grade in the sulfate impurities content. A method for improving hydrated aluminum oxide technology to reduce the content of ammonium sulfate impurities is proposed. A method for improving aluminum fluoride from hydrated aluminum oxide technology is proposed to reduce the content of free Al2O3 and increase the main component content. The possibility of using hydrated aluminum oxide as a substitute for aluminum hydroxide grade GD18 in the aluminum fluoride production is confirmed. For citation: Morozkov A.V., Norov A.M. Abstract:
This article discusses technical measures aimed at improving the energy efficiency of the production of granular fertilizers, and relate to one of the two key approaches to the organization of the technological process. The first key approach implies a more complete use of the heat of exothermic reactions. The second key approach implies the use of a set of measures aimed at using (recovering) heat from internal and external heat flows of the installation. The activities of each key approach make it possible to solve the issues of energy saving, reducing natural gas consumption and reducing the "carbon footprint" in the production of mineral phosphorus-containing fertilizers. Examples of technical measures that were carried out or are planned to be implemented at the chemical enterprises with the direct participation of specialists of JSC NIUF at the stage of pre-design study, development of project documentation, start-up and development of design production indicators are given. The most dynamic development of production capacities for the production of mineral phosphorus-containing fertilizers at the chemical enterprises has occurred since the beginning of the tenth years of this century due to the reconstruction of existing systems and the construction of new installations. When developing the organization of production, developing technologies and designing technical re-equipment and new construction, the principles of the best available technologies (BAT) were applied, including the implementation of energy saving measures. The use of energy- and resource-saving approaches in the production of mineral phosphorus-containing fertilizers, the introduction of modern equipment and aggregates into production makes it possible to reduce the specific consumption of natural gas per unit of production, reduce energy consumption, as well as reduce the negative impact on the environment, including reducing the "carbon footprint" in fertilizer production to zero. Abstract:
A study has been conducted on the possibility of obtaining fertilizers with controlled nitrogen release by applying a non-organic digestible shell of monocalcium phosphate to granules of nitrogen-containing mineral NPK and NP(S) fertilizers. It is shown that the structure of the obtained granules has a clearly defined core and the protective shell itself. The study of granules by fractions showed that the applied monocalcium phosphate shell is evenly distributed over the entire surface of the pellet, regardless of the fraction, and the maximum deviation of the actual shell thickness from the calculated value is less than 10%. The sphericity of the obtained granules is also the same for all fractions, while the coated granules are more spherical compared to the original samples. When studying the physical and mechanical properties of the obtained fertilizers coated with monocalcium phosphate, it was found that they have higher consumer qualities compared to traditional mineral fertilizers – they are characterized by lower caking and dustiness, as well as slightly higher granule strength. A tendency to improve the physical and mechanical properties with an increase in the thickness of the shell for the studied values has been revealed. The study of the rate of nitrogen release in laboratory tests has shown that the use of monocalcium phosphate as a shell material can reduce the rate of release of the element from fertilizers and prolong the period of fertilizer action compared with uncoated samples. Agrochemical tests of the developed coated fertilizers showed an increase in wheat grain yield by 10-18% and a more efficient use of nitrogen from the coated fertilizer compared to the original samples (an increase of 6-18%). Just as for the physical and mechanical properties, it was noted that increasing the shell thickness in the studied range improved the agrochemical efficiency of the fertilizers obtained. In addition, it was found that fertilizers coated with monocalcium phosphate are not inferior in agronomic efficiency to fertilizers with nitrification inhibitors. The study of the dynamics of nitrogen uptake by wheat proved the controllability of nitrogen release from the obtained fertilizers with a shell and the possibility of regulating this process by changing the shell thickness. Abstract:
Magneto-optic ellipsometry in the longitudinal Kerr configuration was performed to determine the complex permittivity tensor of the Co and SmCo thin films within the spectral range from 400nm to 1000nm. The Co film was a middle layer in a Au/Co/Au trilayer structure. Magneto-optical response was analyzed in terms of Mueller matrix elements. Reduced magneto-optical response of the Co layer is explained by influence of the gold top layer of the trilayer structure. Full Text: PDF ReferencesM. Abstract:
February 19, 2023 marked the 200th anniversary of the birth of Konstantin Dmitrievich Ushinsky (1823–1870). The multifaceted personality of the great Russian teacher and his works, which determined the course of development of Russian pedagogy, have repeatedly become the subject of research by Russian historians of pedagogy. At the same time, many assessments given by researchers in the previous historical period suffered from ideological limitations. In addition, in recent years, new, previously unknown facts related to the personality of K. D. Ushinsky and his works have appeared at the disposal of scientists. The author of the article used an axiological approach, which allows to identify the value potential in the subject of research, and a biographical method. To achieve the purpose of the study – the characteristics of Ushinsky's work at the Smolny Institute of Noble Maidens – the following tasks are consistently solved: information is given about the enlightenment figures who contributed to the transition of K. D. Ushinsky to work in Smolny (A. V. Nikitenko, A. S. Norov); an assessment of the state of women's education in Russia in the middle of the nineteenth century is given; Ushinsky reform at the Institute of Noble Maidens; It is shown how his conflict with the "Smolninsky" retrogrades (M. P. Leontiev) proceeded. The article contains excerpts from the memoirs of Ushinsky by his contemporaries and friends (E. N. Tsevlovskaya, M. L. Peskovsky, Yu. S. Rehnevsky). The conclusion is made about the need for further research of the biography of the great Russian teacher in order to establish new facts that would allow a fuller representation of his life and pedagogical activity.

In general, the number of respondents involved in the sequential transformation phase of the experiment comprised of n = 50 people, i. e. men in the second period of their adulthood (35 &ndash; 45 years). <strong>Methods.</strong>&nbsp;The paper uses the data gained from the analysis of professional scientific and methodological literature, pedagogical observation; functional assessment of movements; analysis of men&#39;s posture was performed using the &quot;Torso&quot; program, visual screening of the biogeometric profile of posture, methods of mathematical statistics. <strong>Results of the study</strong><em>. </em>The paper presents a theoretical generalization as well as it offers a new solution to the scientific task, which presupposes development and scientific substantiation of correctional technology, applied for impairment of biogeometric profile of posture observed among men of the second period of their adulthood&nbsp;in the process of their health-recreational fitness training, all together aiming at improving general health. The author&#39;s technology consisted of three stages, in which physical activity was strictly regulated. The letter was determined on the basis of diagnosing the state of men&#39;s posture biogeometric profile. Among the criteria for the effectiveness of the author&#39;s technology the following ones should be noted, including the type of posture, the level of biogeometric profile of posture, the level of movements functional assessment, indicators of physical development, as well as physical fitness level of men aged 36 &ndash; 45 years. <strong>Conclusions.</strong>&nbsp;The results of a consistent transformation experiment have confirmed the effectiveness of the developed technology when it is used for correction of impaired biogeometric profile of the posture observed among men in the second period of their adulthood during their fitness training process. During the study the effectiveness of the author&#39;s technology was experimentally confirmed, which in its turn served as a basis for recommending it for practical use in the process of health-recreational&nbsp;fitness training by mature men. The framework of this work does not reduce the scientific potential of the chosen issue, and therefore the prospect of further research is to introduce and study the effectiveness of a differentiated approach to health-recreational&nbsp;fitness training by mature women given the level of biogeometric profile of their posture. &nbsp; <strong>Key words: </strong>health-recreational fitness, technology,&nbsp;condition of biogeometric profile posture,&nbsp;correction, men, mature age.

Abstract:
Japanese spiraea (Spiraea japonica L.f.), belonging to Rosaceae, is widely planted for its ornamental value in China. Since July 2011, powdery mildew infections on leaves and stems of Japanese spiraea have been noticed in some parks and gardens of Chengyang District in Qingdao City, China (GPS coordinates 36°31′04.22″ N, 120°39′41.92″ E). Symptoms first appeared as white spots covered with mycelium on both side of the leaves and young stems. As the disease progressed, abundant mycelial growth covered the whole shoots and caused growth reduction and leaf distortion with or without reddening. A voucher specimen was deposited in the herbarium of Qingdao Agricultural University (Accession No. HMQAU13013). Hyphae were flexuous to straight, branched, septate, 5 to 7 μm wide, and had nipple-shaped appressoria. Conidiophores arising from the upper surface of hyphal cells produced 2 to 5 immature conidia in chains with a crenate outline. Foot-cells of conidiophores were straight, 60 to 125 × 7 to 9 μm, and followed by 1 to 2 shorter cells. Conidia were ellipsoid-ovoid to doliiform, measured 25 to 32 × 12 to 15 μm with a length/width ratio of 1.8 to 2.6, and had distinct fibrosin bodies. Chasmothecia were not found. The structures and measurements were compatible with the anamorphic state of Podosphaera spiraeae (Sawada) U. Braun &amp; S. Takam. as described before (1). The identity of HMQAU13013 was further confirmed by analysis of nucleotide sequences of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions amplified using the primers ITS1/ITS4 (4). The resulting 564-bp sequence was deposited in GenBank (Accession No. KF500426). A GenBank BLAST search of complete ITS sequence showed 100% identity with that of P. spiraeae on S. cantoniensis (AB525940). A pathogenicity test was conducted through inoculation by gently pressing a diseased leaf onto five healthy leaves of a potted Japanese spiraea. Five non-inoculated leaves served as controls. The plants were maintained in a greenhouse at 22°C. Inoculated leaves developed typical symptoms of powdery mildew after 5 days, but the non-inoculated leaves remained symptomless. The fungus presented on the inoculated plant was morphologically identical to that originally observed on diseased plants, fulfilling Koch's postulates. Powdery mildew of S. japonica caused by P. spiraeae has been recorded in Japan, Poland, and Switzerland (2,3). To our knowledge, this is the first report of powdery mildew caused by P. spiraeae on Japanese spiraea in China. References: (1) U. Braun and R. T. A. Cook. Abstract:
Leaf rust symptoms have been noticed sporadically on northern highbush blueberry plants (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) in Michigan for the past 8 years. In 2009, leaf rust was seen in several cultivated blueberry fields and on greenhouse-grown blueberry plants in southwest Michigan. In 2010, leaf rust was widespread throughout western Michigan and particularly evident in the fall, sometimes resulting in premature defoliation. Cultivars Rubel, Jersey, Elliott, Liberty, and Brigitta were most commonly affected. Both the 2009 and 2010 growing seasons were characterized by above-average precipitation in early to mid-summer. Early symptoms on the adaxial leaf surface consisted of roughly circular yellow spots that later developed brown, necrotic centers. Older lesions were more angular and sometimes surrounded by a purplish border. In the fall, a “green island” effect was sometimes apparent around the lesions. On the abaxial side, numerous yellow-to-orange rust pustules (uredinia) were visible. Uredinia were dome shaped, erumpent, 100 to 400 μm in diameter, clustered, and sometimes coalescing. Urediniospores were broadly obovate with dark yellowish content and measured 19 to 25 × 16 to 20 μm (average 22 × 18 μm, n = 30). Spore walls were hyaline, echinulate, and 1.0 to 1.5 μm thick with obscure germ pores. Uredinia were examined with light and scanning electron microscopy for the presence of conspicuous ostiolar cells characteristic of Naohidemyces vaccinii (Wint.) Sato, Katsuya et Y. Hiratsuka, but none were observed. No telia or teliospores were observed. On the basis of morphology, the pathogen was identified as Thekopsora minima P. Syd. &amp; Syd. (3,4) and a sample was deposited in the U.S. National Fungus Collection (BPI 881107). Genomic DNA was extracted from urediniospores of rust isolates from six different locations, and a 267-bp fragment of the ITS2 region was amplified and sequenced using the primers ITS3 and ITS4 (GenBank Accession No. HQ661383). All sequences were identical to each other and shared 99% identity (232 of 234 bp) with a T. minima isolate from South Africa (GenBank Accession No. GU355675). The alternate host, hemlock (mostly Tsuga canadensis L.) is a common and valuable conifer in the Michigan landscape. Hemlock trees were not examined for the presence of aecia but are assumed to play a role in the epidemiology of the disease in Michigan because leaf rust tends to be more severe near hemlock trees. Pucciniastrum vaccinii (G. Wint.) Jorst. was considered the causal agent of blueberry leaf rust until Sato et al. (1,4) identified three unique species. While T. minima has been reported on black huckleberry (Gaylussacia baccata [Wangenh.] K. Koch) in Michigan (4), to our knowledge, this is the first report of T. minima on highbush blueberry in the state. T. minima has been reported on highbush blueberry in Delaware and New York (4), Japan (2), and South Africa (3). The severity of the outbreak in 2010 warrants further research into economic losses, epidemiology, and management of the disease. References: (1) D. F. Farr and A. Y. Rossman. Fungal Databases.
