Abstract:
The computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) fabrication technique has become one of the hottest topics in the dental field. This technology can be applied to fixed partial dentures, removable dentures, and implant prostheses. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of NaCaPO4-blended zirconia as a new CAD/CAM material. Eleven different proportional samples of zirconia and NaCaPO4 (xZyN) were prepared and characterized by X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and Vickers microhardness, and the milling property of these new samples was tested via a digital optical microscope. After calcination at 950 °C for 4 h, XRD results showed that the intensity of tetragonal ZrO2 gradually decreased with an increase in the content of NaCaPO4. Furthermore, with the increase in NaCaPO4 content, the sintering became more obvious, which improved the densification of the sintered body and reduced its porosity. Specimens went through milling by a computer numerical control (CNC) machine, and the marginal integrity revealed that being sintered at 1350 °C was better than being sintered at 950 °C. Moreover, 7Z3N showed better marginal fit than that of 6Z4N among thirty-six samples when sintered at 1350 °C (p < 0.05). The milling test results revealed that 7Z3N could be a new CAD/CAM material for dental restoration use in the future.

Abstract:
The petroleum industry’s standard porosity-resistivity model (i.e., Archie’s law), although it is fit for its purpose, remains poorly understood after seven decades of use. This results from the choice of the graphical display and trend formula used to analyze Archie’s seminal porosity-resistivity data, taken in the Nacatoch sandstone, a petroliferous clastic formation in the Gulf of Mexico coastal area. Archie’s model accurately predicts the conductivity-brine volume trend for this sandstone. Not all rocks follow the same porosity-resistivity trends observed in the Nacatoch sandstone, but those that do are defined as Archie rocks. Archie’s Nacatoch sandstone data set has significant irreducible scatter, or noise. Data with significant scatter cannot be used to uniquely define a trend. Alternative graphical analyses of Archie’s Nacatoch sandstone data indicates that Archie could have analyzed these data differently had it occurred to him to do so. A physics-based porosity-conductivity model, a “geometrical factor theory” (GFT), is preferred as an alternative to the Archie model because it has a physical interpretation. In this model, the bulk conductivity of an Archie rock is the product of three factors: brine conductivity, fractional brine volume, and an explicit geometrical factor. The model is offered in the form of a theorem, proved in three steps, to make our arguments as explicit and transparent as possible. The model is developed through its culmination as a saturation equation to illustrate that it is a complete theory for Archie rocks. The predictive power of the Archie model and GFT are similar, but unlike the adjustable parameters of the Archie model ([Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], and [Formula: see text]), all of the parameters of GFT have a priori physical interpretations. Through a connection to site percolation theory, GFT has promise to connect porosity-conductivity interpretation to circuit theory first principles.

Abstract:
We studied the spontaneous crystallization behavior for 60.5SiO2-2.5Al2O3-3P2O5- 18Na2O-16RMgO-16(1-R)CaO system glasses during cooling of melts through changing the relative content of alkaline-earth oxides. Such compositional variation leads to the formation of different crystalline phases, as well as different degree of crystallization, with the help of X-ray diffraction (XRD), heat capacity (Cp) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It is found that the obtained glasses are opalescent due to formation of orthorhombic NaCaPO4 during cooling when R≤0.5, and the degree of crystallization increases with substituting MgO for CaO. On the other hand, the spontaneous crystallized phases is hexagonal NaCaPO4 for R=0.75 and is Na2MgSiO4 for R=1.0, respectively, and besides, the appearance become transparent.

Abstract:
The present work demonstrates the production of chlorapatite (ClAp) through thermal decomposition of chemically treated fish scales, originating from an Amazon fish species (Arapaima gigas). The scales were treated with hydrochloric acid (HCl) solution for deproteinization. Afterwards, the solution was neutralized by sodium hydroxide (NaOH) treatment to obtain an apatite-rich slurry. The heat treatment was carried out at different temperatures including 600 °C, 800 °C, and 1000 °C. The powders obtained were characterized through X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The XRD analysis and FTIR spectra confirmed the incorporation of chlorine into the apatite structure. The FTIR results showed absorption bands relative to the OH–, PO43− functional groups which are a characteristic of chlorapatite. Moreover, the intensity of the OH–Cl elongation could be observed. Chlorapatite Ca5(PO4)3Cl, NaCl, and NaCaPO4 phases were identified, achieving up to 87.4 wt% for ClAp. The SEM observations show that with increasing temperature, the ClAp obtained consists of slightly larger, more crystalline grains. Furthermore, the grains ranged in size, between 1-5 μm and ClAp1000 sample recorded crystallinity of 84.27%. ClAp and NaCaPO4 can be used in electronics as phosphor materials due to their luminescence and biomedical applications.
