Abstract:
For Haloxylon ammodendron – a typical succulent xerophyte that accumulates Na+ to resist drought stress– the use of a Na-compound fertiliser (NaCF) at small scales could increase drought resistance. In this study we compared the effects of NaCF, NP (with N and P contents the same as in NaCF), diammonium phosphate (DP), and a control (C) on growth of H. ammodendron in the Alashan Desert regions of China. Results indicated that NaCF significantly increased plant height (PH) by 56, 27 and 12%, main root length (MRL) by 72, 60 and 45%, dry weight (DW) of whole plant by 291, 124 and 89%over the C, NP and DP treatments respectively in the nursery. NaCF also significantly improved drought resistance of H. ammodendron in large-scale desert afforestation, where it increased PH by 4.6 and 1.8cmplant–1, main root length (MRL) by 4.5 and 4.1cmplant–1, and DW by 17.9 and 15.9gplant–1 compared with the C and DP treatments respectively. Furthermore, compared with the seedlings treated with DP in the nursery and in the desert afforestation, seedlings treated with NaCF resulted in water saving potentials of 50 and 33% respectively. These findings indicate that NaCF could be beneficial if widely applied in eco-restoration of the degraded vegetations in desert regions of China.

Abstract:
Objetivos: O presente estudo teve como objetivo explorar a correlação entre o uso de corticosteroides e a ocorrência de necrose avascular do colo do fêmur (NACF), identificar os mecanismos biológicos subjacentes a essa correlação, e avaliar a incidência e os fatores de risco adicionais associados ao desenvolvimento de NACF em pacientes submetidos à corticoterapia. Métodos: Foi realizada uma revisão crítica da literatura com a seleção de estudos relevantes que investigam a relação entre a corticoterapia e a NACF. A busca de literatura incluiu bases de dados como PubMed e MEDLINE, utilizando termos específicos relacionados a osteonecrose, corticoterapia e fatores de risco. Os estudos selecionados foram analisados quanto à qualidade metodológica e à relevância dos achados para os objetivos do estudo. Resultados: A revisão revelou uma forte correlação dose-dependente entre a administração de corticosteroides e o risco de desenvolvimento de NACF, com a apoptose dos osteócitos e a redução da angiogênese emergindo como mecanismos patogênicos centrais. Além disso, regimes de administração em dias alternados demonstraram reduzir significativamente o risco de NACF em pacientes com lúpus eritematoso sistêmico. Fatores de risco adicionais, como consumo de álcool e coagulopatias, foram identificados como amplificadores significativos do risco de NACF quando combinados com corticoterapia. Conclusão: A análise consolidada dos estudos revisados reforça a necessidade de personalização dos tratamentos com corticosteroides, considerando a dose, a duração e os fatores de risco individuais dos pacientes para mitigar o risco de NACF.

We evaluated 1541 patients with aseptic necrosis of the femoral head who underwent prosthetic surgery over a period of 20 years and assessed each implant survival rate depending on the surgucal technique used. The patients were divided into two groups. The first group contained patients with stage II and III of aseptic necrosis, while the second group contained patients with coxarthrosis secondary to the aseptic necrosis of the femoral head. In 20 years, the revision of the bipolar prosthesis in patients with NACF stage III was rated at 1.65%, p=0.0005 and the total prosthesis was rated 7.41%, in patients with secondary NACF coxarthrosis, in spite of 3.98% which was in patients with NACF, p=0.002. The cotyloid was the most frequent cause for the bipolar prosthesis revision and the aseptic loosening of the cup was the most common cause for the total prosthesis revision in patients with secondary NACF coxarthrosis.

Introdução: A necrose asséptica da cabeça do fêmur (NACF) é uma condição patológica que resulta na morte do tecido ósseo na região da cabeça femoral, sem a presença de inflamação ou infecção. Essa condição é mais comum em cães de pequeno porte, especialmente aqueles com idades entre 3 e 13 meses. A NACF ocorre devido à redução do suprimento sanguíneo, levando a necrose, microfraturas e deformidades articulares progressivas. Objetivo: Este estudo visa revisar a etiopatogenia, sinais clínicos e opções de tratamento para a NACF em cães. Metodologia: Foi realizada uma revisão de literatura em bases de dados como Google Acadêmico, PubMed e Scielo, abrangendo publicações de 2009 a 2018. Foram utilizados descritores como “Necrose Asséptica”, “Cães” e “Tratamento Cirúrgico”. Os artigos foram selecionados com base na relevância e rigor científico, excluindo-se teses e dissertações. Resultados e Discussão: A etiologia da NACF ainda não é completamente compreendida, mas a isquemia na cabeça femoral é um fator crucial. Algumas raças apresentam predisposição genética. A condição se manifesta por meio de claudicação, dor intensa e atrofia muscular. O diagnóstico é feito com base em sinais clínicos e confirmado por radiografias, que revelam alterações na cabeça femoral. O tratamento conservador pode ser insuficiente, sendo a artroplastia excisional a opção cirúrgica mais indicada. Este procedimento remove a cabeça e o colo do fêmur, permitindo a formação de uma pseudoarticulação e alívio da dor. Conclusão: A NACF é uma condição desafiadora que, se tratada cirurgicamente de maneira adequada, apresenta um prognóstico favorável. A recuperação e a qualidade de vida dos cães afetados melhoram significativamente com o tratamento apropriado e acompanhamento veterinário.

Abstract:
This study included 56 patients who presented hip pain occurring spontaneously without any trauma history. A new radiological protocol was initiated for all the patients suspected of NACF. A pelvis, Dunlop profile and modified Budin at both hips scan was performed. In order to emphasize the effectiveness of the new radiological protocol, the following indicators were analyzed: the mobility of the affected hip, the radiological changes typical to the aseptic necrosis of the femoral head, the extension angle of the necrosis area on every incidence after Kerboul [1,2], the surface area covering the necrosis zone on every incidence and the coverage on every patient. The modified Budin profile has a greater diagnostic value for the early stages of NACF than the Dunlop profile and the radiography. The Budin incidence is important in order to differentiate stage III of NACF from stage IV by highlighting the degenerative changes in the acetabular cavity.

Abstract:
Facial asymmetry in a crying newborn can be due to a variety of different causes. Neonatal asymmetric crying facies (NACF) is a specific phenotype, which is often underrecognized. It is defined as asymmetry of the mouth and lips with grimacing or smiling, but a symmetric appearance at rest. NACF needs to be differentiated from complete facial palsy in a newborn, which can occur due to traumatic or developmental etiologies. Developmental causes can be present in isolation or may be a part of a recognized syndrome. While asymmetric lower lip depression may be seen in both conditions, complete facial palsy is also associated with upper and mid face deformities. We present a case of NACF and compare it to a case of facial palsy due to perinatal trauma. The purpose of this case series is to clarify some of the confusing nomenclatures and highlight the differences in the physical exam findings, diagnosis, and eventual prognosis of these cases.

A Necrose Asséptica da Cabeça do Fêmur (NACF) é uma enfermidade não inflamatória, asséptica e de origem pouco esclarecida que compromete a vascularização, resultando em necrose da cabeça e colo femoral, com maior acometimento unilateral, em animais de até 1 ano de idade, pequeno porte e sem predileção sexual, sendo os felinos raramente acometidos. O objetivo do trabalho é relatar o caso de uma gata, com NACF bilateral. Felino, fêmea, Sem Raça Definida, 7 meses de idade, atendida no Hospital Veterinário Escola Universidade Guarulhos – São Paulo, com histórico de claudicação de membro pélvico esquerdo há 3 dias. Ao exame físico observou-se atrofia muscular, impotência funcional do membro acometido, dor durante abdução e adução. Exames hematológicos e bioquímicos sem alterações e radiografia com diminuição da radiopacidade e alteração morfológica em colo e cabeça femoral bilateral sendo sugestivo de NACF. Realizada intervenção cirúrgica com a excisão do colo e cabeça femoral do membro esquerdo e após 2 meses, realizado a intervenção do membro contralateral. As amostras foram encaminhadas para histopatológico confirmando o diagnóstico de NACF. Conclui-se que a idade do paciente condiz com a literatura, ainda que o acometimento bilateral seja menos comum. Devido ao início agudo e sem histórico de trauma, fatores hormonais, hereditários ou anatômicos podem estar envolvidos. A enfermidade na espécie felina encontra-se escassa em relatos. Embora rara, a NACF acomete felinos, inclusive de forma bilateral. A técnica cirúrgica proposta e a fisioterapia pós-operatória mostraram-se eficaz no tratamento da afecção

Introducción. Los pacientes con necrosis avascular de la cabeza femoral (NACF) secundaria a anemia de células falciformes (ACF) tienen un mayor riesgo de complicaciones perioperatorias que la población general cuando se someten a una artroplastia de cadera. Objetivos. Describir los resultados de un protocolo multidisciplinario para el manejo de pacientes con ACF sometidos a artroplastia total de cadera (ATC) por NACF y realizar una caracterización de los pacientes que fueron atendidos usando este protocolo en la Clínica Imbanaco, un hospital de cuarto nivel de atención de Cali (Colombia). Metodología. Estudio de cohorte descriptivo retrospectivo realizado con datos de 12 pacientes con ACF y NACF llevados a ATC en la institución entre enero de 2001 y abril de 2022. Los datos fueron recolectados a partir de la revisión de las historias clínicas y el protocolo se presenta mediante flujogramas. Resultados. La edad promedio de los pacientes fue 33,75 años, 75% (n=9) eran mujeres y en 41,67% (n=5) se realizó ATC derecha, mientras que en 16,66% la ATC fue bilateral. Los promedios de hemoglobina (Hb) preoperatoria y posoperatoria fueron 10,87g/dL (7,7-14,2) y 9,08g/dL (5,7-10,2); asimismo, se realizó eritroféresis preoperatoria a 2 pacientes (Hb-S: 27%-32%). Además, 4 pacientes (33,33%) presentaron comorbilidades. La frecuencia cardíaca, frecuencia respiratoria, presión arterial, temperatura y saturación de oxígeno promedio fueron 77,08lpm, 16,41rpm, 83,1mmHg, 36,53°C, 96,66%, respectivamente. Todos los pacientes recibieron profilaxis antibiótica y tromboprofilaxis farmacológica posoperatoria y en todos se usaron vástagos femorales no cementados. El puntaje promedio en la escala de Oxford fue 10,88 en el preoperatorio y 43,11 en el posoperatorio. Conclusiones. Según estos los resultados aquí reportados, el protocolo multidisciplinario implementado en nuestra institución es efectivo para el manejo de pacientes con ACF llevados a ATC por NACF.

In recent years, the research of combining a knowledge graph with recommendation systems has caused widespread concern. By studying the interconnections in knowledge graphs, potential connections between users and items can be discovered, which provides abundant and complementary information for recommendation of items. However, most existing studies have not effectively established the relation between entities and users. Therefore, the recommendation results may be affected by some unrelated entities. In this paper, we propose a neighborhood aggregation collaborative filtering (NACF) based on knowledge graph. It uses the knowledge graph to spread and extract the user’s potential interest, and iteratively injects them into the user features with attentional deviation. We conducted a large number of experiments on three public datasets; we verifyied that NACF is ahead of the most advanced models in top-k recommendation and click-through rate (CTR) prediction.

Abstract:
Facial asymmetry especially Neonatal asymmetric crying facies (NACF) is not an uncommon diagnosis. Many cases are undiagnosed or underreported. Early determination of the etiology is important for better cosmetic outcome. Newborn infant presents at birth with asymmetry of the right side of the face every time he cried. Infant's face is symmetric when he is calm and not crying. Infant is born at full term by elective cesarean section. Pregnancy was uncomplicated and the infant had normal APGARS. No forceps, vacuum or other instruments were used to facilitate the delivery. No family history of similar asymmetry of face, cardiac defects or neurological problems. Infant is both breastfeeding and bottle feeding with normal sucking and no drooling. On examination, vitals are within normal limits. Infant has asymmetry of the lower face when crying with no asymmetry of the upper face. He had no lagophthalmos and nasolabial folds were intact. Infant had no asymmetry of the face when he was not crying or quiet. A harsh systolic murmur is noted at the left lower sternal border. Infant has good peripheral pulses, good perfusion and no cyanosis. Infant is moving all extremities and has no neurological deficits. Rest of the physical examination is within normal limits. NACF is not uncommon and the actual incidence may be higher, as milder cases are either undiagnosed or underreported. A thorough birth history and careful physical exam are important as well as looking for associated anomalies like cardiac defects. Early determination of etiology is important as cosmetic outcome is better in the nerve compression group than the muscle hypoplasia group.

In this work, the polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) based gel polymer electrolyte samples have been prepared by the solution casting technique. The composition range of the salt was from 3 wt% to 35 wt%. The ionic conductivity of the samples was measured using a.c. impedance technique. The highest room temperature conductivity was obtained from the sample containing 30 wt% of NaCF3SO3 salt, i.e. 5.31 x 10-3 S cm-1. The increase in the ionic conductivity with increasing salt concentrations is due to the increase in both concentration and mobility of charge carriers. The decrease in ionic conductivity at higher salt concentrations can be explained by aggregation of the ions, leading to the formation of ion-pair, thus decreasing the number of charge carriers and hence the ionic mobility. The conductivity-temperature dependence obeys the Arrhenius rule from which the activation energy was evaluated. The ionic transference number estimated by dc polarization method revealed that the conducting species are predominantly ions.

Abstract Democratisation has brought a new, riskier pattern of corruption to Korea. More groups and institutions have secured a role in a more inclusive democratic policy making process. As a result, corruption schemes now require the consent of a wide and diverse set of veto players, often including the political opposition, producing expansive democratic ‘corruption webs’. The key democratic element of competition for votes rewards opposition members in the web for blowing the whistle. Increased likelihood of exposure and punishment deter many from corruption, which has subsequently declined in Korea under democracy, as measured by perception polls, experience surveys and objective measures of elite rent exchange. The Roh Moo-hyeon NACF scandals demonstrate that democratic corruption webs also mitigate damage from scandals — forcing participants to limit rent exchange to minimise exposure to clean veto players. Democratic oversight ensures that even bribe-taking officials implement policy according to publicly-declared objectives. Finally, competition for votes encourages timely exposure of democratic corruption rackets.

OBJETIVO: Avaliar a ação do laser diodo Arseneto de Gálio na evolução pós-operatória de cães submetidos à excisão artroplástica da cabeça e colo do fêmur. MÉTODOS: Treze cães portadores de Legg-Calvé-Perthes Disease ou Necrose Asséptica da Cabeça do Fêmur (NACF) foram divididos em dois grupos: (I) sete cães que não foram irradiados - grupo controle; (II) seis cães irradiados uma vez ao dia durante cinco dias consecutivos com o laser Arseneto de Gálio (904nm), densidade de energia 4J/cm2 e tempo de exposição automaticamente ajustado pelo aparelho. Para a avaliação da evolução pós-operatória preencheu-se protocolo com graduação da dor de apoio do membro operado. Utilizou-se teste estatístico não paramétrico U de Mann-Whitney para análise dos resultados. RESULTADOS: O grupo I iniciou o apoio do membro com uma média de 12 dias de pós-operatório e o grupo II com uma média de quatro dias de pós-operatório, sendo estatisticamente significante (p=0.0012). CONCLUSÃO: A irradiação com o laser de baixa potência Arseneto de Gálio (904nm) na dose 4J/cm2, periarticular, promoveu rápido retorno da função do membro em cães após a excisão artroplástica da cabeça do fêmur, otimizando a recuperação pós-operatória.

AbstractIn order to increase the efficiency of dedicated frequency channels, i.e. to increase the specific data transfer rate, multipositional quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK, aka 4-PSK) should be used. The problems with QPSK signal demodulation is a rotation of the signal constellation plane by an angle multiple of 90° and a slow response of the carrier oscillation recovery scheme. The study considers the existing methods for eliminating the phase ambiguity of the recovered carrier frequency in typical QPSK modems, and identifies the shortcoming of a low-speed response oscillation recovery circuit. The authors propose a QPSK demodulator circuit with a fast adjustment of the reference oscillator, which is due to the fact that no loop filter is used in the feedback and that a digital calculator of the required phase shift is used. An algorithm for the frame synchronization restoration with the simultaneous elimination of the phase ambiguity multiple of 90° was also developed using synthesized binary sequences with an ideal non-periodic autocorrelation function (NACF) at even shifts that do not have the rotary symmetry property. The phase ambiguity elimination algorithm proposed in the article can be used as an alternative to standard modems with differential coding.

To find out the proper sodium ion conducting electrolyte at room temperature, we investigated the ac impedance measurement of PVdF gel polymer electrolyte and liquid tetraglyme(TEGDME) with various concentrations of sodium trifluoromethane sulfonate(NaCF3SO3). The concentration of NaCF3SO3 did not severely affect the ionic conductivity. The sodium ionic conductivity using TEGDME with NaCF3SO3 was about 3.3×10-4 S㎝-1 which was lower than that of the PVdF gel polymer electrolyte, 5.0×10-4 S㎝-1. From the viewpoint of ionic conductivity, PVdF gel polymer electrolyte was proper electrolyte for sodium battery.

In modern society, food has social, economic meaning as a cultural product. This paper aims to examine the process of Imsil becoming famous for cheese, focusing on the history of Imsil Cheese-NACF, and to investigate the process by which cheese has been the representative of regional products in Imsil-gun. We found two historical background in the process. First, as pizza franchises spread over the country due to the expansion of eating-out culture in the late 1990s, cheese, the main ingredient of pizza, was highlighted as an important ingredient. So, Imsil Cheese Pizza franchises were founded, and they used Imsil Cheese of the first cheese producer in Korea as a promotional strategy. As a result, Imsil's cheese became famous through the signboard. Second, as the cheese experience program in Imsil Cheese Village became famous, the number of visitors to the village was increasing and it was creating an identity as a cheese village. In this process, Imsil-gun started to foster the cheese industry as a regional focus project, and took the unique position of cheese as a local specialty. The key to claiming that Imsil is the hometown of cheese is the historicity that Ji Jeong-hwan made cheese in Imsil for the first time in Korea. This paper shows that Ji Jeong-hwan has become a symbolic capital of Imsil.

The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of ionic liquid to PEO-NaCF3SO3 solid polymer electrolyte. Sodium ion conducting polymer electrolyte films consisting of Polyethylene oxide (PEO) as a polymer host, Sodium trifluoromethanesulfonate (NaCF3SO3) as doping salt and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate (EMiTF) as ionic liquid has been prepared by solution cast technique. Different amounts (5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 wt. %) of EMiTF will be added to the optimized polymer-salt composition to develop PEO - NaCF3SO3 – EMiTF polymer electrolyte. Difference Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) indicated that the crystalline degree and the weight loss % of the electrolyte decrease with increasing the wt. % of the EMiTF respectively. The ionic transference number was found in the value of 0.95 which suggests that ions are the charge carriers.

The nursing attitude and response to death has been shown to affect the quality of palliative care and end-of-life services that are interrelated services. Aim of the study The aim of this research was to evaluate the professional attitude of nurses towards the care of the families of critically ill patients in the ICU, leading to the emergence of specific attitudes, relating them to their demographic and professional characteristics, with the aim of drawing conclusions for the improvement of quality in end-of-life care. Material and Methods The sample of the study was 81 nurses from a large tertiary hospital. Participants completed the “Nurse Activities for Communicating with Families” (NACF) questionnaire. The questions are about ways in which nurses can help the patient’s family during the patient’s stay in the ICU. Results The results revealed that the nurses took actions related to the information and psychological support of the patient’s family. On the contrary, they did not focus on the spiritual / religious needs of the patient and the needs of the family based on their cultural background. Conclusions The professional treatment of staff is characterized by compassion and empathy, but it is necessary to train them on important issues related to diversity, including the religious, spiritual values and beliefs of patients and their relatives.

ABSTRACT The nitrogen assimilation control protein (NAC) fromKlebsiella aerogenes or Escherichia coli(NACK or NACE, respectively) is a transcriptional regulator that is both necessary and sufficient to activate transcription of the histidine utilization (hut) operon and to repress transcription of the glutamate dehydrogenase (gdh) operon in K. aerogenes. Truncated NAC polypeptides, generated by the introduction of stop codons within thenac open reading frame, were tested for the ability to activate hut and repress gdh in vivo. Most of the NACK and NACE fragments with 100 or more amino acids (wild-type NACK and NACE both have 305 amino acids) were functional in activating hut and repressing gdh expression in vivo. Full-length NACK and NACE were isolated as chimeric proteins with the maltose-binding protein (MBP). NACK and NACE released from such chimeras were able to activatehut transcription in a purified system in vitro, as were NACK129 and NACE100 (a NACKfragment of 129 amino acids and a NACE fragment of 100 amino acids) released from comparable chimeras. A set of NACE and NACK fragments carrying nickel-binding histidine tags (his6) at their C termini were also generated. All such constructs derived from NACE were insoluble, as was NACE itself. Of the his6-tagged constructs derived from NACK, NACK100 was inactive, but NACK120 was active. Several NAC fragments were tested for dimerization. NACK120-his6 and NACK100-his6 were dimers in solution. MBP-NACK and MBP-NACK129 were monomers in solution but dimerized when the MBP was released by cleavage with factor Xa. MBP-NACE was readily cleaved by factor Xa, but the resulting NACE was also degraded by the protease. However, MBP-NACE-his6 was completely resistant to cleavage by factor Xa, suggesting an interaction between the C and N termini of this protein.

The evaluation of tree and shrub species in forests throughout Anambra State poses a significant challenge. Despite the importance of these forests in terms of ecology and biodiversity, there is a lack of comprehensive documentation on the various tree and shrub species found in the area. The absence of precise taxonomic information impedes conservation efforts, sustainable management, and well-informed decision-making regarding forest resources. This study was carried out to delineate the species of trees and shrubs present in some forest sites in Anambra State, Nigeria. Three tropical forests were selected from different zones of the study area based on their high floristic composition. They include Unizik Conservation Forest Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka South (NACF), Ishigwu Forest, Umuomaku Orumba South (IFU), and Umuikwu Forest, Anam Anambra West (UFA). A field inventory of trees and shrubs flora was adopted for data collection. On each location, six plots of 10 m × 10 m each were randomly demarcated following a line transect and trees within the plots were assessed. Identification and recording of different tree and shrub species was done by considering morphological features of leaves and stem. A total of 114 species belonging to 101 genera in 38 families were recorded across the three forests. The forests contained different proportions of unique species, indicating differences in species richness. It is recommended that habitat preservation be prioritized due to the wide variety of species observed in the three forests. Measures should be implemented to avoid deforestation, illegal logging, and land-use changes that could harm these ecosystems.

Ergebnisse Im Untersuchungszeitraum wurden 1135 PatientInnen an 143 Studienstandorten rekrutiert. Bei 22 % der PatientInnen fanden sich initial mehr als 3 suspekte Lymphknoten. In 64 % der Fälle wurde der Target-Lymphknoten (TLN) markiert. Dabei erfolgte die Markierung bei 83 % der PatientInnen mit Clips/Coils, bei je 8 % mit magnetischen Seeds oder Kohlenstoffsuspension und bei 1 % mit einem Radarmarker. Bei jeweils 48 % der PatientInnen wurde nach NACT eine Targeted Axillary Dissection (TAD) oder eine axilläre Lymphonodektomie (ALND) geplant, bei 2 % eine alleinige Sentinel-Lymphknoten-Biopsie (SLNB). Klinisch wurde der Nodalstatus nach NACT in 65 % der Fälle als unauffällig beurteilt. Bei 65 % der Frauen wurde der histologische Lymphknotenstatus durch die Palpation und bei 69 % der PatientInnen durch die Sonografie korrekt erfasst. Clarifying the relationship between cooperative management and cultivated land use eco-efficiency (LUEE) is of great significance to promoting the green and low-carbon transition of agriculture. To explore the role of cooperative management in the green and low-carbon transition of agriculture of smallholder farmers in the western Tarim River Basin, in this study, based on the field survey data of 444 farmers in 2021, the carbon emissions of cultivated land were used to measure the LUEE with the slack-based model (SBM) with undesirable outputs. Then, propensity score matching (PSM) was used to test the relationship between cooperative management and LUEE. Additionally, the mediating effect of farmers’ green development willingness (FGDW) and the moderating effect of farmers’ part-time off-farm employment (POE) on the relationship was explored. The present study hypothesized that joining cooperatives has an improving effect on the LUEE, which can be achieved by increasing FGDW, and this effect can be enhanced by farmers’ POE. The results show that: (1) The LUEE was generally low (average LUEE value: 0.2678), and there was a significant difference between farmer households (the difference between the maximum and minimum values was as high as 2.8716). (2) Cooperative management had a significant improving effect on the LUEE. The LUEE of cooperative farmers (ACF) increased by 8.6% compared with that of non-cooperative farmers (NACF). (3) Joining a cooperative could improve the LUEE by improving FGDW. (4) POE could enhance the improving effect of cooperative management on the LUEE. Overall, all three hypotheses were supported: cooperative management could achieve scale effects that small farmers cannot achieve, which had a positive effect on improving the LUEE. This study provides a new ecological perspective for the analysis of the relationship between agricultural cooperatives and LUEE and decision-making reference for the rational utilization of cultivated land in northwest China.

Zusammenfassung Hintergrund Der Zusammenhang zwischen pathologischer Komplettremission (pCR) der Brust und klinischen/pathologischen Parametern ist bei Brustkrebspatientinnen, die sich einer neoadjuvanten Chemotherapie (NACT) unterziehen, bekannt. Noch nicht geklärt ist aber der Zusammenhang zwischen diesen Parametern und der residualen axillären Lymphknotenlast nach NACT. Methoden In dieser Studie wurden Patientinnen mit klinisch okkulten Lymphknotenmetastasen (d. h. klinisch negativ, aber SLN-positiv vor NACT; d. h. aus dem Arm B der SENTINA-Studie) aufgenommen. Bei allen Patientinnen wurden eine zweite Sentinel-Lymphknoten-Biopsie (SLNB) sowie eine axilläre Lymphknotendissektion nach NACT durchgeführt. Es wurden univariate und multivariate Analysen durchgeführt, um den Zusammenhang zwischen klinischen/pathologischen Parametern und axillärem Lymphknotenbefall nach NACT zu bestimmen. Ergebnisse Es wurden 360 Patientinnen aus dem Arm B der SENTINA-Studie in diese Studie aufgenommen; die Daten von 318 dieser Patientinnen wurden analysiert. Nach der NACT wurde bei 71/318 (22,3 %) Patientinnen ein Befall der SLN oder Non-SLN festgestellt. Bei insgesamt 71/318 (22,3 %) Patientinnen konnte eine pCR der Brust erreicht werden. Der Zusammenhang zwischen extranodaler Ausbreitung, fehlender Multifokalität sowie pCR der Brust und der residualen axillären Lymphknotenlast war statistisch signifikant. Bei der deskriptiven Analyse aller Patientinnen mit klinisch negativen axillären Lymphknoten vor NACT in der SENTINA-Studie hatten 1,2 % der triplenegativen (TN) Patientinnen und 0,5 % der HER/2-positiven Patientinnen eine residuale axilläre Tumorlast trotz pCR der Brust. Schlussfolgerung Patientinnen der SENTINA-Studie mit klinisch negativen axillären Lymphknoten und Sentinel-Lymphknoten-Befall haben ein signifikantes Risiko für nodale Metastasen nach NACT. Allerdings ist das Risiko einer residualen axillären Tumorlast besonders gering bei Frauen mit pathologischer Komplettremission der Brust und triplenegativen oder HER/2-positiven Tumoren.

Daher stellt sich die Frage, ob bei einer Komplettremission nach NACT eine operative Therapie der Brust notwendig ist und ob es ein Vorteil für das onkologische Behandlungsergebnis ist, wenn kein Tumor mehr nachgewiesen werden kann. Ein Verzicht auf die Operation und gegebenenfalls auch auf die Radiotherapie ist jedoch nur auf der Basis einer verlässlichen pCR-Diagnose ohne Operation denkbar. Bildgebende Verfahren erreichen derzeit nicht die nötige Sensitivität und Spezifität, um die Diagnose einer pathologischen Komplettremission sicher zu stellen. Daher sind weitere Studien nötig, um herauszufinden, welche Methode die bestmögliche Evaluation des Tumoransprechens auf NACT erlaubt. Erste vielversprechende Ergebnisse zeigen sich in Studien zu bildgebungsgesteuerten, minimalinvasiven Biopsien nach NACT. Diese evaluieren die Möglichkeit einer pCR-Diagnose vor der Operation und könnten die Grundlage für weitere Studien zu einem möglichen Verzicht auf eine Operation in diesem ausgewählten Kollektiv sein.

ABSTRACT The nitrogen assimilation control gene, nac, was detected in Escherichia coli but not in Salmonella typhimurium by Southern blotting, using a probe from theKlebsiella aerogenes nac (nacK ) gene. The E. coli nac gene (nacE ) was isolated from a cosmid clone by complementation of anac mutation in K. aerogenes. nacE was fully functional in this complementation assay. DNA sequence analysis showed considerable divergence betweennacE and nacK , with a predicted amino acid sequence identity of only 79% and most of the divergence in the C-terminal half of the protein sequence. The total predicted size of NACE is 305 amino acids, the same as for NACK. A null mutation, nac-28, was generated by reverse genetics. Mutants bearing nac-28 have a variety of phenotypes related to nitrogen metabolism, including slower growth on cytosine, faster growth on arginine, and suppression of the failure of an Ntr-constitutive mutant to grow with serine as sole nitrogen source. In addition to a loss of nitrogen regulation of histidase formation,nac-28 mutants also showed a loss of a weak repression of glutamate dehydrogenase formation. This repression was unexpected because it is balanced by a NAC-independent activation of glutamate dehydrogenase formation during nitrogen-limited growth. Attempts to purify NACE by using methods established for NACK failed, and NACE appears to be degraded with a half-life at 30°C as short as 15 min during inhibition of protein synthesis.

Understanding which species coexist, their roles, and interactions enrich our knowledge of local ecosystems; and, the ecosystem services rendered by forests are paramount. Identifying key tree species allows us to assess their contributions to ecosystem services such as carbon sequestration, soil stability, and habitat provision. This research examined the functional trait and phylogenetic diversity of tree and shrub species in three tropical forests in Anambra State. A combination of line transects and plot sampling was used in this study. Field inventory of tree flora was undertaken to collect data. At each location, six plots of 10 m × 10 m each were randomly demarcated using a line cut and the trees within the plots were assessed. The identification and recording of different tree species was carried out according to the Linnaeus taxonomy of species classification. Functional leaf characteristics (dry mass, size and specific area) were recorded for at least two healthy, unshaded adults of the different species. Phylogenetic diversity was determined by constructing phylogenetic trees. All data analysis for this study was performed using the Python programming language. The Statistical Package for Product and Services was used to provide supplementary analyzes such as dendrogram plotting. The metrics of functional diversity, including Rao's squared entropy (Rao's Q), functional richness, functional evenness and functional divergence, for the three plant communities were also presented. Phylogenetic representation of all tree and shrub species included in the analysis of NACF, IFU and UFA, based on species abundance data, revealed several distinct clusters within the dendrogram and some close clusters, indicating close relationships between species in the dendrogram dense cluster. There were also intermediate and distant clusters that showed moderate similarities and differences in relationships, respectively. Overall, the diversity of functional traits examined in this study provides valuable insights into ecosystem functioning. This will be helpful to researchers, and other stakeholders can use this information to model carbon sequestration, nutrient cycling, and other ecosystem services.

The effect of NaCI salinity on growth and development of somatic embryos of Habanero pepper was examined. Addition of 75 and 100 mm NaCI into the medium greatly increased the growth and development of somatic embryos and both of these concentrations favored the proliferation of somatic embryos. However, supplementation of 200 and 300 mm NaCI to the medium showed a negative effect on the growth and development of somatic embryos. Concentration increases of NaCl provoked a significant reduction of the embryos survival rate with the average lethal dose (46%) being registered in the treatment of 100 mm. Furthermore, a lower tolerance to salt stress (NaCl) was observed in deformed somatic embryos. Concentrations of 200 and 300 mm NaCl significantly delayed development in the surviving embryos in both treatments. These embryos remained at the globular stage throughout culture time. At 75 mm NaCl, most of the embryos were observed in the torpedo stage. However, the embryos exposed to 100 mm NaCl were observed mainly in globular and cotiledonar stages. It is quite likely that the transition from one intermediate stage of development to another occurs rapidly. With the exception of the concentration at 300 mm NaCl, salt stress stimulated embryonic germination, particularly at 100 mm NaCl. The content of proline in somatic embryos increased substantially in response to salinization. The results suggest that somatic embryos of C. chinense can tolerate concentrations of NaCl up to 100 mm without their development being affected. Moreover, they have sufficient cellular mechanisms to tolerate salinity at relatively higher levels.

The influences of NaCl concentration, incubation temperature, and pH on the germination of Echinacea angustifolia seeds were investigated. Dehulled, surface-disinfected seeds were germinated in petri dishes containing 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, or 4.0 g–liter–1 NaCl at 12, 17, 22, or 27C for 10 days. Percent seed germination was the highest at 0 ppm NaCl and was progressively reduced as NaCI concentrations increased to 4 g–liter–1 at all temperatures. The NaCI suppression of germination was most severe when seeds were incubated at 27C. No germination occurred at 12C. When seeds were germinated over a pH range from 4 to 11, the highest percent germination occurred at pHs between 6 and 8 at 25C.

Material und Methoden: Für den Versuch standen 10 gesunde, laktierende und nichtgravide, 3- bis 6-jährige Kühe der Rasse Deutsch Holstein mit einer Tagesmilchleistung von 20,3±2,7 Litern zur Verfügung. Den Tieren wurde vor, während sowie 0 und 60 Minuten nach der Infusion von 0,9%iger NaCl-Lösung, 5- oder 20%iger Glukoselösung Blut zur Bestimmung des Gehalts an Glukose und anorganischem Phosphat entnommen. Ergebnisse: Es konnte ein signifikanter Einfluss der Glukose infusion auf den Blutglukosespiegel der Kühe nachgewiesen werden. Nach Infusion von 1000 ml einer 20%igen Glukoselösung (200 g Glukose) stieg die Glukosekonzentration um durchschnittlich 13,26 mmol/l, nach Verabreichung von 1000 ml einer 5%igen Glukoselösung (50 g Glukose) um durchschnittlich 3,31 mmol/l. Kein signifikanter Zusammenhang ergab sich zwischen einer 0,9%igen NaCl-Infusion, 5- oder 20%igen Glukoseinfusion und der Blutkonzentration an anorganischem Phosphat. Schlussfolgerung: Eine Infusion von 1000 ml 5- oder 20%iger Glukoselösung bedingt keinen nachteiligen Abfall des Blutphosphatspiegels und eignet sich zur Verbesserung der Blutglukose versorgung der Kuh.

Material und Methoden: Bei 16 weiblichen, 6 Monate alten Zwergkaninchen kamen in randomisierter Reihenfolge über jeweils 27 Tage folgende Fütterungsvarianten zum Einsatz: Alleinfuttermittel (AF) ohne Ergänzung = Kontrolle; AF + 10 g NaCl/kg Futter = NaCl; AF + 2,5 g NH4Cl/kg Futter = NH4Cl. Jedes Tier erhielt jede Fütterung ad libitum ohne Raufutterzugabe sowie Wasserad libitum. Zwischen den Fütterungsvarianten erfolgte jeweils eine 14-tägige Wash-out-Periode mit ausschließlicher Heufütterung. Zu Beginn der Fütterungsperiode, nach 21-tägiger Adaptation sowie 3-tägiger Sammlung von Harn und Kot, wurden Blut- und Harnproben entnommen. Die Analyse umfasste neben Futter- und Wasseraufnahme verschiedene Parameter des Säure-Basen-Status sowie Mineralstoffgehalte in Blut, Harn und Kot. Ergebnisse: Die NaCl-Zulage bewirkte eine numerische Erhöhung der Wasseraufnahme von 40,5 ± 14,4 ml/kg Körpermasse (KM) (Kontrolle) auf 49,5 ± 14,3 ml/kg KM. Die tägliche Harnmenge stieg von 16,9 ± 7,8 ml/kg KM (Kontrolle) auf 21,1 ± 7,4 ml/kg KM an. Unter NaCl-Zulage sank das spezifische Gewicht des Harns von 1,060 ± 0,008 auf 1,044 ± 0,008 ab. Die NH4Cl-Supplementierung hatte keinen signifikanten Einfluss auf den Harn-pH-Wert, Parameter des Säure-Basen-Status oder die Kalziumretention. Die Werte der relativen Übersättigung (RSS) für Kalziumoxalat und Kalziumphosphat differierten zwischen den Fütterungsgruppen nicht signifikant. Die RSS für Struvit erhöhte sich von einem mittleren Ausgangswert von 360 ± 735 nach Heufütterung auf 3312 ± 6188 für die Kontrolle, auf 2910 ± 4913 für NaCl und auf 3022 ± 6635 für NH4Cl (p < 0,05). Schlussfolgerungen: Durch die NaCl-Zulage wurde die Harnmenge signifikant gesteigert und das spezifische Gewicht des Harns gesenkt. Eine NaCl-Gabe stellt somit einen möglichen ergänzenden therapeutischen Ansatz für eine vermehrte Ausscheidung von Kristallen dar. Eine Ansäuerung des Harns durch Zulage von NH4Cl ließ sich nicht erreichen.

Determination of plant salt stress responses is essential for stabilization of crop productivity under saline conditions. It is known that high soil salinity may adversely affect photosynthesis,&nbsp;which is a prerequisite for biomass production. For this reason, there is a considerable interest in measuring the photosynthetic rate of horticultural crops under saline conditions. A greenhouse pot experiment was set up to study the effects of saline irrigation water on faba bean (Vicia faba L.) photosynthetic rate and chlorophyll content index. Faba bean seedlings were transplanted into pots and treated with saline irrigation water. NaCI salinity was applied in a nutrient solution as follows: NaCl<sub>0</sub> &mdash; control (basic nutrient solution without added NaCI), NaCl<sub>50</sub> (control + 50 mM&nbsp;NaCl) and NaCl<sub>100&nbsp;</sub>(control +&nbsp;100 mM&nbsp;NaCI). Five weeks after salinity treatment started faba bean leaf intercellular CO<sub>2</sub> concentration (Ci), stomata! conductance (g<sub>s</sub>), transpiration rate (E), photosynthetic rate (A) and chlorophyll content index (CCI) were measured. Stomatal conductance, transpiration rate and photosynthetic rate of faba bean plants irrigated with saline water significantly decreased (P&lt;0.01) in regard to control plants,&nbsp; but without significant difference amongst treatments.&nbsp; Intercellular CO<sub>2</sub>&nbsp;concentration was not significantly affected by application of saline irrigation water. Salinity treatments significantly altered (P=0.01) chlorophyll content index, although the influence was not linear to the salinity treatments. Raised soil salinity imposed water limitation for faba bean plants, which was suggested by lower stomatal conductance. Plant adaptive responses to salt stress include retention of water by stomatal closure, decreasing both transpiration and photosynthetic rate. Therefore application of saline irrigation water results in decreased rate of transpiration and limits faba bean photosynthesis as well.

30 days old healthy seedlings of Ceriops decandra were selected for NaC1 treatment. The experimental plants were treated with NaCl solution (Control, 200, 400, 600, 800, 1000 mM) by soil drenching method to analyze the ions such as Sodium, Calcium, Chloride, Nitrogen, Phosphorous and Manganese. The results showed that above 800 mM the seedlings did not survived. Sampling for analysis of ions was taken on the 60th, 90th and 120th days after planting (DAP). Nitrogen and Calcium content were increased in 400 mM NaCl leaf tissues and were slightly increased in stem and roots of 400 mM. Chloride and Sodium was more accumulated by 800 mM NaCl treated leaves and then stem and root. Magnesium and Phosphorous content were decreased above the optimum concentration of NaCl.

ZusammenfassungÜber viele Jahrzehnte war die komplette Ausräumung der axillären Lymphknoten im Sinne einer Axilladissektion ein Standardverfahren in der Therapie des Mammakarzinom. Die Zielsetzung lag in der Bestimmung des histologischen Nodalstatus für die Festlegung der adjuvanten Therapie sowie in der Sicherung der lokoregionären Tumorkontrolle. Neben der Diskussion zur Optimierung der Therapiestrategien in der systemischen Behandlung und in der Strahlentherapie fokussieren aktuelle Diskussionen insbesondere auch auf die Verbesserung der chirurgischen Maßnahmen beim Mammakarzinom. Unter Berücksichtigung der zunehmenden Bedeutung der neoadjuvanten Chemotherapie erfährt die operative Behandlung des Mammakarzinoms sowohl im Bereich der Brust als auch im Bereich der Achselhöhle einen Wandel. Basierend auf der derzeitigen Datenlage wird die SLNE vor einer neoadjuvanten Chemotherapie grundsätzlich nicht empfohlen. Demgegenüber wird die operative axilläre Intervention – von der SLNE über die TAD bis zur ALND – nach der neoadjuvanten Chemotherapie als Vorgehen der Wahl zum axillären Staging angesehen. Zur Verringerung der Falsch-negativ-Rate des operativen Stagings der Axilla bei pN+CNB vor NACT und ycN0 nach NACT sind Targeted axillary Dissection (TAD), die Entfernung von &gt; 2 SLNs (SLNE, kein ungezieltes axilläres Sampling), die Immunhistochemie zur Detektion von isolierten Tumorzellen oder Mikrometastasen und die Markierung von positiven Lymphknoten vor NACT als Standard anzusehen. In dem aktuellen Update zur operativen axillären Intervention wird auf die Bedeutung von isolierten Tumorzellen und Mikrometastasen nach neoadjuvanter Chemotherapie und die klinischen Konsequenzen einer mittels SLNE und TAD diagnostizierten Low Volume residual Disease eingegangen und ein Überblick bez. der diesjährigen AGO-Empfehlungen zum operativen Management der Axilla im Rahmen der Primäroperation und im Zusammenhang mit der neoadjuvanten Chemotherapie gegeben.

Salinity stress has become an important limiting factor for plant growth and productivity. To evaluate the effect of salinity on plant and root development three pea genotypes were grown under different concentrations of NaCl (50, 100 and 200 mM NaCI) in an in vitro and in vivo conditions. After two weeks of cultivation in culture medium the seedling emergence rate was not significantly affected by 50 mM NaCl. In culture medium containing 200 mM NaCl only in variety Prometei over 50% of the seeds developed to the plants. The data indicated that increasing NaCl level significantly reduced shoot and root lengths, and plant fresh weight. Six weeks (42 days) after sowing in vivo, a reduction in plant height and weight was observed at 200 mM NaCl concentration. A proven differences of the root traits were established only in variety Prometei. On the bases of the obtained results it can be concluded that variety Prometei was the most tolerant to applied salt stress.

Composite membranes nylon-AC (NAC) were obtained by immersing a nylon mesh substrate in a 5 % solution of cellulose acetate (AC) in acetone. The AC content in the membrane ranged from 21 to 45 %, depending on the number of applied surface layers. According to the results of studying the properties of composite membranes, an increase in water absorption and total porosity of membranes after the application of the first layer of AC was found, and with the application of the next layer of AC, the values of water absorption and total porosity slightly decrease, which is due to the compaction of the membrane structure. Also, a decrease in the contact angle of the membrane wetting by 33° was revealed, which means an increase in the hydrophilic properties of the membrane, which increases the wettability and productivity of the obtained membranes. Composite membranes with two and three layers of AC: NAC2 and NAC3 were used to separate 0.5 % water-oil emulsion with particle sizes from 81 to 422 nm. The specific productivity of the NAC2 membrane by 0.5 % water-oil emulsion was 9433 dm3/(m2·h), the productivity of the NAC3 membrane was 3799 dm3/(m2·h) at a pressure of 0.55 MPa, which exceeds the performance of the commercial ultrafiltration membrane UPM-100 equal to 1843 dm3/(m2·h). According to the results of the study, the retention capacity of composite membranes for oil products from a water-oil emulsion was established, which was 61 % for NAC2 membranes and 75 % for NAC3 membrane. These indicators are not inferior to the retention capacity of a commercial ultrafiltration membrane of the UPM-100 brand.

Zusammenfassung Gegenstand und Ziel: Anhand einer kontrollierten klinischen Studie sollte bei akut an Bronchopneumonie erkrankten Kälbern die therapeutische Wirkung einer Inhalation mit hypertoner (9%iger) NaCl-Lösung geprüft werden. Material und Methoden: 100 Kälber (Alter 7–64 Tage) aus einem Milchviehbetrieb wurden nach Auftreten einer Bronchopneumonie auf die Test- und Kontrollgruppe randomisiert. Die Testgruppe erhielt zusätzlich zur standardisierten antibiotischen Therapie während der ersten fünf Tage täglich einmal eine Inhalation mit 9%iger NaCl-Lösung (Einzeldosis 35 mg; Aerosol- Provokationssystem, APS; Fa. Jaeger GmbH, Würzburg). Der Krankheitsverlauf wurde anhand der klinischen Befunde und der Ergebnisse von Lungenfunktionsmessungen (Impuls- Oszilloresistometrie-System, Fa. Jaeger GmbH, Würzburg) über sieben Tage dokumentiert. Ergebnisse: Nach der Inhalation zeigten sich die Lungenfunktionsparameter wie folgt signifikant verändert: Die respiratorische Reactance war im gesamten Frequenzbereich (5–15 Hz) erhöht, die respiratorische Resistance bei 5 Hz deutlich erniedrigt. Diese Befunde, wie auch die zunehmende Frequenzunabhängigkeit der Resistance im Bereich von 5 bis 15 Hz, deuten auf eine Verminderung obstruktiver und/oder restriktiver Ventilationsstörungen hin. Allerdings spricht die Zunahme der respiratorischen Resistance im Frequenzbereich von 10 bis 15 Hz für eine Erhöhung der Strömungswiderstände in den zentralen und/oder oberen Atemwegen. Nach Inhalation verringerten sich Atemzugvolumen, Atmungsfrequenz sowie Atemminutenvolumen signifikant. Hinsichtlich der Entwicklung der klinischen Befunde wie auch der Lungenfunktionsparameter ergaben sich für die Inhalationsgruppe zwar etwas günstigere Werte, doch waren die Unterschiede zwischen beiden Behandlungsgruppen nicht signifikant. Schlussfolgerung und klinische Relevanz: Eine Inhalation von aerosolierter 9%iger NaCl-Lösung führt bei Kälbern mit akuter Bronchopneumonie zwar kurzzeitig zu einer Verbesserung der Lungenfunktion, in Anbetracht des damit verbundenen erheblichen Aufwandes erscheint dieses Therapieverfahren derzeit aber noch nicht für die Praxis geeignet.

Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell is a promising green energy conversion machine. However, some drawbacks, such as Pt corrosion on the cathode side, the high price of Pt, Nafion membrane, and the need for the high precision assembly process, limit their commercialization. In this study, PtCrCo alloy which is supported by nitrogen-doped activated carbon was synthesized by facile method to increase electrochemical performance as a cathode catalyst and reduce Pt catalyst usage. Nitrogen-doped Activated Carbon/PtCrCo/Nitrogen-doped Carbon (NAC/PtCrCo/N) catalyst was investigated to analyze the effect of increasing the composition of nitrogen-doped activated carbon in the synthesis process on the morphology and electrochemical performances of the catalyst. Polyaniline (PANI) as Nitrogen precursor was added to Activated Carbon (AC) powder with ratio of AC to PANI; 1:0, 3:1, 1:1, 1:3, as called AC, NAC1, NAC2, and NAC3 respectively. The catalyst synthesis process is carried out with the four activated carbon supports. Material characterizations were carried out using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), Cyclic Voltametry (CV), and Linear Sweep Voltametry (LSV). The XRD measurement shows that the addition of nitrogen doping tends to reduce the diffraction peak intensity of nitrogen-doped activated carbon compared to the pristine carbon. The doping also increases the surface area of the activated carbon as measured by the BET method. Nitrogen doping increases the conductivity and the addition of alloys can add better stability and catalytic activity for cyclic voltammetry results of the four catalysts cannot be calculated. The NAC3/Pt-Cr-Co/N electrocatalyst exhibited the highest initial potential at ~1 mAcm-2 of 0.997 V compared to the other four samples. On the other hand, AC/Pt-Cr-Co/N catalyst has the highest current density value of 22.156 mAcm-2.

Abstract:
We determined whether the ability of sour orange seedlings to withstand saline irrigation water could be improved by the addition of calcium to the water. Sour orange (Citrus aurantium L.) seedlings were treated for 4 months with a nutrient solution containing either no NaCl, 40 mm NaCI, or 40 mm NaCl plus various concentrations of CaSO4, CaCl2, or KCl. After 4 months, the NaCl alone reduced root and shoot dry weights by ≈ 30% with no leaf necrosis. Addition of 1, 5, or 7.5 mm CaSO4 to solutions containing 40 mm NaCl significantly inhibited the NaCl-induced reductions in shoot dry weight. Addition of 7.5 mm CaCl2 or 7 mm KCl to the NaCl solution reduced leaf Na, but increased Cl to the toxicity level; hence, growth was not improved. The beneficial effect of CaSO4 was mainly attributed to a reduction in the accumulation of Na and Cl below the toxicity level in the leaves (0.4% and 0.5%, respectively) without a major increase in total dissolved salts. This study demonstrated that the beneficial effect of adding Ca depended on the anion associated with the Ca salt. Calcium sulfate, but not CaCl2, was able to overcome the damaging effect of NaCl to sour orange seedlings.

Abstract:
ZusammenfassungGerinnungsstörungen nach einem Polytrauma werden eine große Bedeutung für die weitere Prognose der Patienten beigemessen. In einer prospektiv angelegten Studie wurden bei 20 polytraumatisierten Patienten Gerinnungsund Fibrinolyseparameter analysiert, um deren Veränderungen während der präklinischen Phase zu definieren. Die Blutentnahmen wurden zum frühestmöglichen Zeitpunkt am Unfallort und bei Klinikübergabe durchgeführt. Die gewonnenen Proben wurden mit Hilfe eines speziell konzipierten »Kleinlabors« noch vor Ort verarbeitet, um möglichst native Meßwerte zu erhalten. Die Patienten wurden dem Schweregrad der Verletzung entsprechend kategorisiert und hatten einen Verletzungsschweregrad nach NACA &gt; IV und einen Injury Severity Score (ISS) &gt; 20. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, daß bereits in der sehr frühen Phase nach Eintritt des Traumas schwerwiegende Veränderungen des Gerinnungsund Fibrinolysesystems eintreten. Die frühzeitige Thrombingenerierung führt zu einer Verbrauchskoagulopathie und reaktiven Hyperfibrinolyse. Zusätzlich erzeugt die Freisetzung von endothelständigem Tissue-type-Plasminogenaktivator eine primäre Hyperfibrinolyse. Die Veränderungen des Gerinnungsund Fibrinolysesystems in der frühen präklinischen Phase nach Polytrauma können zu schwerwiegenden klinischen Komplikationen wie Blutungen, thromboembolischen Komplikationen und zur Ausbildung von Schockorganen führen.

Abstract:
Electrochemical Noise (EN) measurements for low carbon pipeline steel (X52) samples were carried out in 3.5% NaCl aqueous and NACE solutions. Both testing solutions were saturated with hydrogen sulphide (H2S) at 20 and 60 oC, under static conditions. EN data was analysed in the time domain. Parameter such as Electrochemical Noise Resistance (Rn) and Localization Index (LI) were determined from the analysis in the time domain. Also, Rn results are compared with traditional Linear Polarization Resistance (LPR) data. A superficial analysis was carried out by a scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with Energy Dispersive X-Ray analyses (EDX). A good correlation was observed among the used techniques and relevant electrochemical data related to the corrosion phenomena was obtained. According to Rn, the corrosion rate (CR) values of the steel sample immersed in 3.5% NaCl are higher than the CR of the steel samples immersed in NACE solution. The morphology of the corrosion process obtained by SEM was a localized type and this behaviour was corroborated by the results obtained by LI where these LI values are 1 or close to 1.
