Abstract:
As all genres of popular music, classical music consists of many different subgenres. The aim of this work is to recognize those subgenres from orchestral recordings. It is focused on the time period from the very end of 16th century to the beginning of 20th century, which means that Baroque era, Classical era and Romantic era are researched. The Music Information Retrieval (MIR) method was used to classify chosen subgenres. In the first phase of MIR method, parameters were extracted from musical recordings and were evaluated. Only the best parameters were used as input data for machine learning classifiers, to be specific: kNN (K-Nearest Neighbor), LDA (Linear Discriminant Analysis), GMM (Gaussian Mixture Models) and SVM (Support Vector Machines). In the final chapter, all the best results are summarized. According to the results, there is significant difference between the Baroque era and the other researched eras. This significant difference led to better identification of the Baroque era recordings. On the contrary, Classical era ended up to be relatively similar to Romantic era and therefore all classifiers had less success in identification of recordings from this era. The results are in line with music theory and characteristics of chosen musical eras.

Abstract:
This Master’s thesis deals with beat tracking systems, whose functionality is based on neural networks. It describes the structure of these systems and how the signal is processed in their individual blocks. Emphasis is then placed on recurrent and temporal convolutional networks, which by they nature can effectively detect tempo and beats in audio recordings. The selected methods, network architectures and their modifications are then implemented within a comprehensive detection system, which is further tested and evaluated through a cross-validation process on a genre-diverse data-set. The results show that the system, with proposed temporal convolutional network architecture, produces comparable results with foreign publications. For example, within the SMC dataset, it proved to be the most successful, on the contrary, in the case of other datasets it was slightly below the accuracy of state-of-the-art systems. In addition, the proposed network retains low computational complexity despite increased number of internal parameters.

Recording direction became during 20-century full-fledgede artistic profession. It has developed next to the recording technology from the first hints alongside the phonofraph up to indespensable part of the digital multichannel recording process. Its story has filled the lives of many significant personalities, especially composers, conductors, musicologists. Theirs artificial credit corresponds the difficulty, ensuing the principle of the sound record – mirror of the musical composition and its unique interpretation. The interest to research the spirit of recording direction has emerged from vagues opinions about function of the recording direciton and the sound engineer. Where are theirs mutual boundaries. The listening of a record doesn’t show the influence of the recording direction during its creation. The mapping of all the activities of the recording direction and detailed classification rice a division, innternally strongly linked with phases of recording process and types of recordings. They are parallel actions with high pretention of concentration. Umbrella – feature of recording direction is psychology of the communication with the interpreters and the members of recording crew. The recording direction is a part of the recording proces even out of big procuctions of complicated projects. Recorded music needs the supervision and to be assessed from the point of view of the sound quality and musical content of the interpretation, which are stored in the record unchangeable. Abstract:
This master thesis deals with systems for detecting rhythmic structures of music recordings. The field of Music Information Retrieval (MIR) allows us to examine the harmonic and tonal properties of music, rhythm, tempo, etc., and has uses in academic and commercial sphere. Various algorithms are used in the detection of rhythmic structures. However, today, most new methods use neural networks. This work aims to summarize the current research results of systems for detecting beats and tempo, to describe methods of calculating and evaluating the parameters of music recordings, and to implement a program that allows comparison of available detection systems. The result of the work is a script in the Python language, which uses six different systems to detect the rhythmic structure of test recordings. It then checks the outputs of the algorithms according to the given reference and compares the given systems with each other using several evaluation values. It uses two datasets as a reference—one of them is publicly available and the other was created by the author of this thesis (including annotations, i.e., reference beat times, for the sample recordings). The program allows user to see the results in graphs and play any of the sample recordings with detected beat times.

Iterative Improving of Transcribed Speech Recordings Exploiting Listener's Feedback Abstract This Ph.D. thesis deals with making a corpus of audio recordings of a single speaker accessible to wide public and interested community. The work has been motivated by the existence of a set of perishing recordings of the Czech philosopher Karel Makoň on magnetophone tapes. The aim is to conserve the material for future generations and making it accessible using digital technologies, in particular publishing the recordings online and enabling the users to search through them. The thesis introduces the creation of a system for transcribing a large set of speech recordings employing a lay community. The solution designed is based on obtaining a baseline low-quality transcription by means of automated speech recognition and developing an application that allows for collecting corrections of the automatic transcription in a fashion that makes it usable as training data for further improvement of said transcription. The spoken corpus itself is described. The author and his works, topics cove- red in the talks, the process of recording and digitization as well as the gained transcription are introduced. Abstract:
The analysis of long-time formant distribution is relatively young but promising discipline of speaker identification. It is a method of mapping the long-term behavior of formants in speech of individual speakers. Frequently encountered problems in practice are bad acoustic quality and very short duration of analyzed recordings. This work aims to present the historical development of forensic phonetics and currently used methods. In the practical part, it deals with the usability of LTF method in forensic practice, especially in recordings containing background noise. It was shown that the noise appreciably affects extracted LTF values and unfortunately the change is not systematic. Therefore, we proposed several methods to compensate the noise in recordings, in order to be able to compare recordings with and without noise. We also investigated the minimum duration of recording, which is necessary for statistical reliability of the resulting values. This boundary is not exact and for each speaker, it is substantially individual. But it is apparent that recordings (vocalic streams) shorter than 15 s often provide incomplete information, wherefore they cannot be recommended for analysis. Abstract:
(in English): This thesis deals with the issues of teaching listening in Czech as a foreign language. It is based on studying theoretic sources, structured observing and the comparison of didactic materials, on questionnaires and informal interviews. In its theoretical part, it brings a brief overview of present knowledge in this field, using predominantly foreign sources that deal with teaching English as a foreign language. The second part enables the comparison of various didactic materials from the points of view acquired in the previous chapter, and it also provides an overview of the typology of listening tasks, including their evaluation. The last chapter designs some new sample materials based on what has been found out about their imperfections in this field so far, and it also mentions some suitable resources for designing the new listening tasks.
