Abstract:
The quality parameters of irrigation water in some minor lift irrigation schemes on Bhor nallah, Chatha farm at Gidergalion were evaluated and their impacts on soil characteristics in the fringe areas of Ranvir canal and non command were studied. Irrigation water samples at monthly intervals were collected and analyzed for pH, Electrical conductivity (EC), Sodium Adsorption Ratio (SAR), Magnesium Hazards (MH) and Residual Sodium Carbonate (RSC) by following standard methods. The soil samples from the concern command and adjoining areas (non command) were also collected and analyzed for important physico chemical properties and available nutrients as per standard procedures. Results revealed that majority of water samples collected from minor lift irrigation schemes on Bhor and Balal nallahs containing municipal/industrial waste was under high salinity-low SAR category, whereas water samples of Ranbir Canal at Gidergalian falls under medium salinity-low SAR. The soil characteristics viz. pH, EC, OC and available N, P and K were higher in command soils of Bhor and Chatha as compared to non command soils of Gidergalian and Dharap.

Abstract:
Anionic surfactants, such as sodium linear alkylbenzene sulfonates (NaLAS), are utilized in various fields, including industry, household, and agriculture. The efficiency of their use in aqueous environments is significantly affected by the presence of cations, Ca2+ and Mg2+ in particular, as they can decrease the concentration of the surfactant due to precipitation. To understand cation–sulfonate interactions better, we study both NaLAS colloidal solutions in the presence of CaCl2 and precipitates forming at higher salt concentrations. Upon addition of CaCl2, we find the surface tension and critical micelle concentration of NaLAS to decrease significantly, in line with earlier findings for alkylbenzylsulfonates in the presence of divalent cations. Strikingly, an increase in the surface tension is discernible above 0.6 g L–1 NaLAS, accompanied by the decrease of apparent micelle sizes, which in turn gives rise to transparent systems. Thus, there appears to be a second critical concentration indicating another micellar equilibrium. Furthermore, the maximum salt tolerance of the surfactant is 0.1 g L–1 Ca2+, above which rapid precipitation occurs yielding sparingly soluble CaLAS2∙2H2O.

Abstract:
Double metal amidoborans are considered to the most promising candidates for metal amidoborans. In this paper, the crystal structures, electronic properties, chemical bonds, hydrogen removal energies, and HOMO-LUMO of NaAB, NaLiAB, and NaMgAB have been studied. The GGA corrected density functional theory have been employed in the first principles calculations. Due to the alkali and alkali earth metals coexisting, the crystal structures of these compounds change significantly and the B–H, N–H and B-N bond lengths shorten. Moreover, the band structures and density of states of NaAB, NaLiAB, and NaMgAB were calculated. The charge density distributions and bond populations are used to understand the nature of bonding. The hydrogen removal energy states removing H(B) and H(N) from NaLiAB more easily than NaAB and NaMgAB. In addition, the frontier molecular orbital reveals that the intermolecular and intramolecular dehydrogenation of NaLiAB and NaMgAB may concur. The calculated HOMO-LUMO energy gaps suggest that the chemical reactivity is: NaLiAB> NaAB> NaMgAB.

AbstractBased on observations of naleds (also calledaufeisor icings) grown in a refrigerated laboratory flume, a detailed, composite description of the processes associated with naled ice growth is presented. A spread length is derived that represents a mass balance between the water supplied to a naled’s surface and the ice that freezes on to the surface. Herein, this spread length is termed an equilibrium length. Guided by this concept of equilibrium length and the laboratory data, length- and time-scales applicable to the growth of two-dimensional naleds are proposed. These scales proved useful for normalizing the times and streamwise lengths that correspond to distinct phases of naled ice growth. It is observed that, even in a laboratory flume, naleds spread and thicken in a complex, layer-by-layer manner. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first reported laboratory study on naled ice growth. The descriptions and concepts presented herein should be useful to engineers concerned with the effects of naleds on engineering works, and of interest to those who are planning experiments on naleds.

Abstract:
An extensive investigation on the microstructural evolution of nanocrystalline–amorphous laminated alloys (NALAs) by molecular dynamics simulations and mechanistic analysis have been conducted to apprehend the interplay of complex phenomena governing structural changes in this alloy under neutron irradiation. It was discovered from the evolution profiles of free volumes, atomic unfilled spaces, and irradiation-induced vacancies that the profound structural response of the NALA was orchestrated by the rapid and spontaneous recovery of free volumes that indicate a self-healing ability in the amorphous zone, while the phenomenon of geometric atomic reconstitution in local structures governs the effective self-healing capacity for annihilated nanocrystal regions. Furthermore, a distinctive, self-migration/diffusion capture dynamics for the annihilation of defects by phase boundaries was discovered as an effective self-healing mechanism in NALAs. These findings will potentially facilitate the development of advanced nuclear materials with high irradiation resistance.

Abstract:
The invaluable meteorological observations for a late autumn tropical cyclone that came very close to Hong Kong, namely, Nalgae in November 2022, are documented in this article. In particular, the dropsonde data for two consecutive days for this late season storm close to Hong Kong are presented. Meteorological data revealed that while Nalgae appeared to be rather weak from the meteorological satellite image under the cool sea surface water and the cool and dry northeast monsoon, it still maintained considerable intensity near the lower-boundary layer and managed to bring gale to storm force 10 min mean winds over many places in Hong Kong, necessitating the issuance of a gale or storm wind signal in November since 1972. The consideration in the issuance of the warning signal in Hong Kong and the difficulty in numerical weather prediction (NWP) model in forecasting Nalgae are also discussed in this article.

Abstract:
Typhoons are serious natural disasters in coastal areas. During the summer of 2011, successive typhoons Nesat and Nalgae appeared in the South China Sea, providing a unique opportunity for us to study the response of the upper ocean to successive typhoons. We comprehensively use satellite data and COAWST model data to explore the effects of successive typhoons on the temperature structure of the South China Sea. Nesat caused the sea surface temperature to decrease by up to 4.4 °C on the right side of the typhoon path, and the ensuing Nalgae caused the temperature to decrease by up to 2.2 °C. Because Nesat had already cooled the ocean, the response to Nalgae was more to the left of the track than one would normally expect. The upwelling dominates the change in subsurface temperature. Based on the increase caused by Nesat, the isotherm was further raised by Nalgae. The isotherm rising amplitude is larger in the upper and deeper layer and is smaller in the middle layer in the depth range of 0–200 m. Heat budget analysis indicates that in the area close to the typhoon path, vertical diffusion is the main reason for the decrease in ocean surface temperature, while total advection suppresses the decrease in temperature. In the area with a larger distance from the typhoon path, vertical diffusion and total advection lead to the decrease in ocean surface temperature, and total advection will gradually contribute more to temperature change and become the dominant factor. On the right side of the typhoon track, the reduction of the contribution rate of vertical diffusion with distance from typhoon track is slower than that on the left side of the typhoon track. Whether Nesat or Nalgae, the intensity and depth of effects of vertical diffusion on the right side of typhoon path are greater than those on the left side of typhoon path, and the near-inertial periodic oscillation of local temperature change rate is more obvious. When the vertical diffusion is weak, the influence of vertical advection and horizontal advection is deeper. Moreover, the near-inertial periodic oscillation of the local temperature change occurs in lower depth after Nalgae passed through than that after Nesat. The typhoon intensity of the two typhoons shows the opposite change: the first typhoon increases, and the second typhoon weakens. Therefore, the special case of successive typhoons should be fully considered in typhoon prediction to improve accuracy.

Abstract:
It was hypothesized that renal sympathetic nerve activity (RSNA) and neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) are involved in the acute inhibition of renin secretion and the natriuresis following slow NaCl loading (NaLoad) and that RSNA participates in the regulation of arterial blood pressure (MABP). This was tested by NaLoad after chronic renal denervation with and without inhibition of nNOS by S-methyl-thiocitrulline (SMTC). In addition, the acute effects of renal denervation on MABP and sodium balance were assessed. Rats were investigated in the conscious, catheterized state, in metabolic cages, and acutely during anesthesia. NaLoad was performed over 2 h by intravenous infusion of hypertonic solution (50 μmol·min−1·kg body mass−1) at constant body volume conditions. SMTC was coinfused in amounts (20 μg·min−1·kg−1) reported to selectively inhibit nNOS. Directly measured MABPs of acutely and chronically denervated rats were less than control (15% and 9%, respectively, P < 0.005). Plasma renin concentration (PRC) was reduced by renal denervation (14.5 ± 0.2 vs. 19.3 ± 1.3 mIU/l, P < 0.005) and by nNOS inhibition (12.4 ± 2.3 vs. 19.6 ± 1.6 mlU/l, P < 0.005). NaLoad reduced PRC ( P < 0.05) and elevated MABP modestly ( P < 0.05) and increased sodium excretion six-fold, irrespective of renal denervation and SMTC. The metabolic data demonstrated that renal denervation lowered sodium balance during the first days after denervation ( P < 0.001). These data show that renal denervation decreases MABP and renin secretion. However, neither renal denervation nor nNOS inhibition affects either the renin down-regulation or the natriuretic response to acute sodium loading. Acute sodium-driven renin regulation seems independent of RSNA and nNOS under the present conditions.

Abstract:
Yeasts and fungi generate Ca2+ signals in response to environmental stresses through Ca2+ channels essentially composed of Cch1 and Mid1. Cch1 is homologous to the pore-forming α1 subunit of animal voltage-gated Ca2+ channels (VGCCs) and sodium leak channels nonselective (NALCNs), whereas Mid1 is a membrane-associated protein similar to the regulatory α2/δ subunit of VGCCs and the regulatory subunit of NALCNs. Although the physiological roles of Cch1/Mid1 channels are known, their molecular regulation remains elusive, including subunit interactions regulating channel functionality. Herein, we identify amino acid residues involved in interactions between the pore-forming Cch1 subunit and the essential regulatory Mid1 subunit of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. In vitro mutagenesis followed by functional assays and co-immunoprecipitation experiments reveal that three residues present in a specific extracellular loop in the repeat III region of Cch1 are required for interaction with Mid1, and that one essential Mid1 residue is required for interaction with Cch1. Importantly, these residues are necessary for Ca2+ channel activity and are highly conserved in fungal and animal counterparts. We discuss that this unique subunit interaction-based regulatory mechanism for Cch1 differs from that of VGCCs/NALCNs.

Abstract:
Renin secretion is regulated in part by renal nerves operating through β1-receptors of the renal juxtaglomerular cells. Slow sodium loading may decrease plasma renin concentration (PRC) and cause natriuresis at constant mean arterial blood pressure (MAP) and glomerular filtration rate (GFR). We hypothesized that in this setting, renin secretion and renin-dependent sodium excretion are controlled by via the renal nerves and therefore are eliminated or reduced by blocking the action of norepinephrine on the juxtaglomerular cells with the β1-receptor antagonist metoprolol. This was tested in conscious dogs by infusion of NaCl (20 μmol·kg−1·min−1 for 180 min, NaLoad) during regular or low-sodium diet (0.03 mmol·kg−1·day−1, LowNa) with and without metoprolol (2 mg/kg plus 0.9 mg·kg−1·h−1). Vasopressin V2 receptors were blocked by Otsuka compound OPC31260 to facilitate clearance measurements. Body fluid volume was maintained by servocontrolled fluid infusion. Metoprolol per se did not affect MAP, heart rate, or sodium excretion significantly, but reduced PRC and ANG II by 30–40%, increased plasma atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), and tripled potassium excretion. LowNa per se increased PRC (+53%), ANG II (+93%), and aldosterone (+660%), and shifted the vasopressin function curve to the left. NaLoad elevated plasma [Na+] by 4.5% and vasopressin by threefold, but MAP and plasma ANP remained unchanged. NaLoad decreased PRC by ∼30%, ANG II by ∼40%, and aldosterone by ∼60%, regardless of diet and metoprolol. The natriuretic response to NaLoad was augmented during metoprolol regardless of diet. In conclusion, PRC depended on dietary sodium and β1-adrenergic control as expected; however, the acute sodium-driven decrease in PRC at constant MAP and GFR was unaffected by β1-receptor blockade demonstrating that renin may be regulated without changes in MAP, GFR, or β1-mediated effects of norepinephrine. Low-sodium diet augments vasopressin secretion, whereas ANP secretion is reduced.

Abstract: This research tries to explain and identify the types of personal nostalgia in Nali's poems, in which the types of personal nostalgia has been discussed in theory and has been found practically in his poems, where we see centuries ago the poet had sentimental longing or wistful affection for a period in the past. Nostalgia is a psychological feeling found inside every human being, and every single one of us has their own reasons to recall, desire or feel remorseful of their past, could be a recall of happy times or misery. This feeling is not as important to the normal men but has a strong value for poets and authors whom apply it on their artistic works.

Abstract:
Subsidence in carbonate rock is one of common and challenging action in terms of engineering construction. Geological study and geophysical investigation carried out in the intake area of Nalgad Hydroelectric Project Jajarkot, western Nepal Lesser Himalaya. The main objective was to identify the cause of subsidence in the intake area of Nalgad Hydroelectric Project, Jajarkot. Geological study of the area was carried to understand the lithology, thickness and structure of the area. The study area comprises two distinct rock units, namely, Dolomite Unit followed up by the Slate Unit. The Dolomite Unit is composed of light grey to grayish white stromatolitic dolomite which is thrusted over the Slate Unit near to Laikham village and Sepu Khola area. The Slate Unit is made up of grayish black to graphitic slate. A thin prominent calcareous horizon wasconfined between Slate Unit. 2D-Electric Resistivity Tomography (ERT) measurements were deployed in four different lines to investigate the cause of the subsidence in the carbonate terrain. A concentric very high resistivity patch shown by Tomogram ER-D-01 survey line was identified and interpreted as dry cavity. The result of the 2D- ERT survey was correlated with core log data of geotechnical exploration in the suspicious point to ensure the presence of karst in the Dolomite Unit at right bank of Nalsyagu Khola near dam axis of Nalgad Hydroelectric Project. The 2D – ERT survey together with geotechnical investigation is capable of identifying subsurface karst feature as the cause of surface collapse in the area.

Abstract:
It seems legitimate to say that the classical-conventional methodology gives birth to a rigid and theo-centric view of Islam. This form of methodology is dogmatic and is replete with a systematic indoctrination, such that would lead one to accept a particular view of religion often blindly while believing that other views are wrong. This paper offers a challenge to that old-fashion methodology by deconstructing it, and then constructing a new form of methodology. We treat the classical methodology as being literal-normative, and the new one that we propose as being contextual-historical. We argue that the former has gone out of context, because it was invented for its own time. The latter in the meantime is critical and considerate to new demands and contexts. We speak of this new methodology as characteristically multi-disciplin-ary in the sense that within its premises, various forms of knowledge are deemed to have been interconnected and together constitute an integral web of epistemic construction.

Abstract:
Multivariate analysis of paleobiological species lists is made difficult by taphonomic, monographic, collection, and sample-size bias. These problems can be partially surmounted by determining which pairs of taxa have overlapping (conjunct) or non-overlapping (disjunct) distributions. Two taxa are conjunct if they are found together in at least one species list. The conjunction data type has two important properties that strongly contrast with other measures of taxonomic association: 1) the set of known and actual conjunctions converge on each other as more and more conjunctions are demonstrated by new species lists; and 2) the fact of conjunction between two species is independent of particular sampling regimes. While an apparent conjunction is necessarily real, apparent disjunctions can result from sampling bias. Methods that use conjunction data should therefore attempt to “explain” a pattern of disjunction. One approach is to order taxonomic “first” and “last” appearance events to form a hypothetical age-range zonation. Disjunction is accounted for when age-ranges do not overlap, and the most parsimonious zonation minimizes implied conjunction. An appropriate algorithm is as follows: 1) compute a conjunction matrix; 2) perform a correspondence analysis on this matrix; 3) multiply the resulting taxonomic scores by the original taxon-by-species list matrix to produce a set of species list scores; 4) arrange the lists in the order of their scores; and 5) deduce an appearance event sequence from the species list sequence. In some cases a “zonation” can best be interpreted as a biogeographic or paleoecological gradient.A conjunction analysis of 1030 mammalian species lists from the late Eocene - Pleistocene of North America was performed. Radiometric dates are correlated strongly with the positions of species lists in the sequence. Because they are independently derived, the radiometric and event time scales are truly cross-confirmatory. Calibration of the event sequence using 54 independent dates was carried out, and separate diversity curves for species and lineages were computed directly from the event sequence. The major features of the curves are 1) a moderate Chadronian-Orellan (Eocene-Oligocene) boundary extinction; 2) middle Miocene diversity peak; and 3) a major Mio-Pliocene boundary mass extinction. Finally, the North American Land-Mammal “Ages” (NALMAs) were redefined on the basis of the event sequence. Boundaries within the sequence were optimized to prevent apparently disjunct taxa from ranging into the same time unit. The most important result is that the “Arikareean” consists of two easily distinguished and lengthy NALMAs separated at the Oligo-Miocene boundary. The two new NALMAs will be named and defined in a later paper. Additionally, the “early Hemingfordian” is placed in the “late Arikareean”; the “early Barstovian” is transferred to the Hemingfordian; and the “late late Barstovian” is unquestionably early Clarendonian. Most of the quantitatively defined NALMA and “subage” boundaries coincide with small extinction episodes.A similar, more preliminary analysis of the European Miocene generated biochrons that match most of Mein's MN zones. Most of the revised Mein zone boundaries coincide precisely with the NALMA boundaries. This could indicate that global factors (climate change, asteroid impacts, etc.) are responsible for the majority of the minor mammalian extinction events that are spaced at 1 – 2 m.y. intervals, and, therefore, for a significant fraction of species-level mammalian extinctions.
