In a large number of states, women are encouraged to take their husbands’ surnames at marriage by being offered an expedited name-change process that is shorter, less expensive, and less invasive than the statutory process that men must complete. If a couple instead decides to take an altogether-new name at marriage, the vast majority of states require that each spouse complete the longer statutory process. This name-change system emerged from a long history of naming as a way for men to dominate women. This Note emphasizes the need for name-change reform, arguing that the current system perpe

It is useful, for the sake of my topic today, that since I declared my title the Republic of Zaire (in May 1997) changed its identity, or at least, resumed one of its former names, the Democratic Republic of Congo. The change is also a nuisance, because the new/old name revives the likelihood of confusion not only with ex-Zaire's neighbour across the Zaire River, the Republic of Congo, but also with the people called BaKongo, who owned the name in the first place. I will try to explain all that in a moment.

Dostoevsky’s Dialectic: The Name of the Father and the Saving Power of Childhood The artistic experience of Dostoevsky’s novels combines two rather heterogeneous hermeneutic strategies – the analysis of the unconscious and of existential utopia. In the first case, Dostoevsky problematizes the completeness of the symbolic order of culture as such through the thematization of the figure and name of the Father. From the perspective of the second strategy, Dostoevsky creates his own utopia of a symbolic order, with the eternal substance of people’s life capable of infinite renewal in the child’s soul in the role of the great Other. His novels reveal what can be called the creative core of culture. The murder of Fyodor Karamazov is an archetypal event, a sacrifice of the Body of the Father for the sake of the NAME of the dead Father, it initiates a paradigmatic process in the Symbolic.

Abstract In any discussion of the Reformation, the first name mentioned is invariably that of Luther. The first mass awareness at the beginning of the 1520s that some great religious upheaval was under way was linked to his person. It is, therefore, most important to ask how Luther was depicted or represented during these years. We can trace numerous published Luther portraits from the early 1520s. Allowing for variations and modifications, there were no less than twenty-six different versions. Luther also appears in nineteen illustrations, that is, depictions containing a narrative element or some form of action which includes other figures besides Luther. He features as well in decorative borders of several title pages, although the overall effect is intended to be more than merely ‘decorative’: for example, where Luther points to the risen Christ in another part of the border.2 These depictions can be used to analyse the semiological importance of Luther’s image during the decisive early years of the Reformation.

Abstract Conventional 0.2C-13Cr martensitic steel has a higher SSC susceptibility in NACE TM-01-77 solution (0.5% acetic acid + 5% NaCl, 25°C(75°F), saturated with 0.1MPa (15psi) H2S) and in the modified NACE solution (0.5% acetic acid + 5% NaCl, 25°C(75°F), 0.01MPa (1.5psi) H2S) than low alloy steel. This is due to a higher hydrogen content (C0) in 13Cr steel although the threshold hydrogen content (Cth) for SSC is almost the same as that of low alloy steel with same strength. The reason why 13Cr steel has a higher C0 is because it has a smaller apparent diffusion coefficient (D) of hydrogen

ABSTRACT There are two well recognized international standards to evaluate offshore atmospheric coatings. One is ISO-12944-9 (historically referenced as ISO 20340) and the other one is NACE TM 0404 (new construction)/TM 0304 (maintenance) with acceptance criteria referenced in NACE SP 0108. The major differences between the ISO and the NACE standards are the cyclic test method and the test duration for the rust creepage test. The ISO requires a 25-week cyclic test duration and NACE standard requires 12 weeks only. Furthermore, the NACE standard requires other coating properties - edge coverage

Abstract The NACE TM0177 Method A Uniaxial Tensile test using a proof-ring device is extensively employed in order to assess the Sulfide Stress Cracking (SSC) susceptibility which can occur on Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG) and Line Pipes (LP). It is also well understood that different test methods may not necessarily provide the same ranking. This is the reason why replicate testing is advisable to tighten as much as possible the scattering of the SSC threshold. Nevertheless, SSC test results can show statistical variability for the same material. The aim of this paper is to check whether t

To utilize the benefits of AM in sour service environments, new qualification and materials testing requirements will be necessary. This paper is a follow up study to one presented in 2016 (NACE-2016-7892), where C-ring testing was conducted to evaluate the susceptibility of austenitic stainless steels to conditions simulating a severe downhole environment; i.e. 230 °C, pH of 3.5, and variable chloride concentrations and H2S partial pressures. NACE MR0175/ISO15156 currently allows the use of low-alloy steel bar stocks without any environmental restrictions up to 22HRC, which, by most specifications, corresponds to 80ksi (552MPa) SMYS. At higher SMYS, and with exclusions of API and proprietary sour tubular grades, NACE MR0175/ISO15156 does not address solid bar stocks, a gap and opportunity addressed by this investigation. Specific

Additionally, the Chinese cimicifuga (sheng ma) market is commonly adulterated with Serratula chinensis (guang dong sheng ma [Asteraceae]). We measure the extent of discrimination against same-sex couples by schools in Colombia using a matched-pair correspondence study. We send requests to visit private schools from several couples of different sexual orientation as conveyed by the names of the parents. We track the response rate from schools, the time to reply and the quality of the reply. We find that schools are 12 percentage points (22.3%) less likely to respond to a request sent by a homosexual couple with respect to one sent by a heterosexual one. Among others, medicine is an area in which such ontologies already abound [RZStGC, CCHJ94, SCC97]. • Second, a traditi
