Abstract:

Abstract:
The aim of this article is, on the one hand, to present Jean-Luc Nancy’s thought about the deconstruction of Christianity and, on the other, to suggest its possible significance for the general study of religion. According to Nancy, who belongs to a line of thinkers spanning from Nietzsche through Heidegger to Derrida, Christianity initiated the loss of meaning (sens) which permeates the contemporary (notion of) the world. Yet, at the same time, Christianity opens an alterity in the midst of the world owing to the pre-Christian roots of Christ as a redeemer of this world. In a wider perspective, Nancy locates the emergence of religion in a first distinction (as between light and shade) from which the order of the world evolves. In modernity, however, this distinction, or ‘the divine’ as such, only greets us in passing, reflecting the relations between all things of the world which thus salute one another in mutual exposition, that is, in their ex-istence.

Rocha Silva, J. C., J. Rodrigues, A. Rodrigues, et al. "P270 Ulcerative colitis disease extent and inflammatory burden assessment: DUBLIN and modified Nancy score." Journal of Crohn's and Colitis 14, Supplement_1 (2020): S285—S286. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/ecco-jcc/jjz203.399.

Abstract:
Abstract Background Current endoscopic activity scores for ulcerative colitis (UC) do not take into account the extent of mucosal inflammation. The DUBLIN score (Degree of Ulcerative Colitis Burden of Luminal Inflammation) is a simple bedside clinical score that estimates inflammatory burden using both disease severity and extent, which correlates with objective inflammatory markers and is associated with clinical outcomes. The validated Nancy score is used to evaluate histological activity; nonetheless, it does not take in consideration disease extension. We aimed to evaluate the relation of both Mayo and Dublin scores with disease activity and as predictive factors of clinical relapse. Also, we developed a modified Nancy score in order to assess histologic activity considering disease extension. Methods A retrospective cohort study, which consecutively included all UC patients submitted to colonoscopy with biopsies between 2016 and 2019 in our unit. Mayo and DUBLIN scores were calculated. Modified Nancy score was calculated as a product of Nancy Score and disease extent (E1-E3). Correlation of both endoscopic and histologic scores with biomarkers, relapse (in a 6months) and relapse-free time as performed. Results 107 patients were selected, 52.3% (n = 56) male, mean age = 48.4 ± 13.9 years. Mean Dublin score was 2.65 ± 2.75. Mayo and DUBLIN scores presented good correlation (r = 0.880, p < 0.001). Also Dublin score correlated with modified Nancy score (p < 0.001). Both Dublin score (p = 0.009) and modified Nancy score (p = 0.026) correlated with C-reactive protein levels. Nancy score correlated with faecal calprotectin (p = 0,025). Relapse occurred in 26.2% (n = 28) of patients with a mean time for the event of 13 ± 7 weeks. Mayo Score (p < 0.001), Dublin score (p < 0.001), Nancy score (p < 0.001) and modified Nancy score (p < 0.001) presented a significant association with relapse. Areas under the ROC curve were 0.786 for Dublin score, 0.751 for Mayo score, 0.84 for Nancy score and 0.79 for modified Nancy score. Conclusion DUBLIN and modified Nancy scores correlate with each other and with biomarkers and are independent predictors of relapse. Dublin score was superior to Mayo score in the prediction of relapse.

Abstract:
Abstract The north-eastern French city of Nancy is one of the centres of Art Nouveau. It has been analysed in detail in many classical reviews Art Nouveau, but mainly in relation to decorative applied art works produced at the Nancy School of Art. The study pays attention also to the Nancy architecture. The architectural and artistic qualities of the iconic Art Nouveau architectural monument Villa L. Majorelle are analysed in detail, and the basic data about works of É. André, H. Gutton, J. Hornecker, L. Weissenburger, and other Nancy architects are systematized, indicating their place both in the cityscape of Nancy and in the historical context of Art Nouveau architecture in general.

Abstract:
Abstract To start such a topic as this, one could turn to a dictionary to define “networking.” Personally, I like to refer to the comics—in this instance the comic strip “Nancy”. The first frame finds Nancy, in class, turned around in her seat earnestly talking to another young colleague. In the next frame Nancy has turned in response to the teacher asking her if she was talking. Nancy replies, “Talking? No Ma'am, I'm not talking. I'm establishing contacts and exchanging information with my peers.” The middle frame shows Nancy grumbling, “OK, whatever you say… ” and the final frame of the comic shows Nancy, at her desk, busily writing “I will not network in class, I will not network in class, I will not network in class.” Yes, some of the terms may have changed, but the point is still why network or, more specifically, why join a formal network or a group that networks?

Abstract:
In light of the recent political events, it is clear that democracy itself has come to be contested and modified in a plethora of democratic practices that have expanded the very articulation of equal citizenship. My argument in this article is twofold: first, I rearticulate Arendt’s conception of “revolution” found in her On Revolution by insisting on its “beginning” and “founding” dimensions for the appearance of freedom. Coupled with Jean-Luc Nancy’s insight into a “spirit of democracy” that does not reside in its “form, institution, regime,” I then develop a principle of democratic responsibility that consists in opening up a revolutionary space that enjoins us to become a demos.
