Abstract:
This thesis presents my work on the fabrication of nanocrystalline silicon (nc-Si) thin film transistors and characterization of their stability under different conditions. Nc-Si transistors are promising alternative to the current amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) devices, especially in areas where a-Si:H TFTs are reaching the performance ceiling, e.g. new large area applications such as active matrix organic light emitting diode displays (AMOLED). This is mostly due to the superior nc-Si properties – high carrier mobility and good electrical stability stemming from the crystalline Si grains embedde

Abstract:
Thin film transistors (TFTs) have brought prominent growth in both variety and utility of large area electronics market over the past few decades. Nanocrystalline silicon (nc-Si:H) TFTs have attracted attention recently, due to high-performance and low-cost, as an alternative of amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) and polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) TFTs. The nc-Si:H TFTs has higher carrier mobility and better device stability than a-Si:H TFTs while lower manufacturing cost than poly-Si TFTs. However, current nc-Si:TFTs have several challenging issues on materials and devices, on which this thesis fo

After the pH-sensitivity measurement, the characteristics and surface properties of NCD films are discussed. At first, NCD films (328 nm) were grown on Si substrates by microwave plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition. After the NCD films were deposited, the NCD films were treated by RTA and CF4 plasma treatment. The surface morphology, surface chemistry proper

As the crystalline size decreases, the threshold-intensity of X-X scattering decreases, the power coefficient increases, and the intensity-ratio of X-X to donor bound exciton increases. These results are explained by exciton diffusion and giant exciton oscillator strength. As defects in the ZnO film decreases, we found crystalline that the power coefficient and the intensity-ratio i

Abstract:
This thesis explores colloidal semiconductor nanocrystal solutions as a feedstock for creating thin film semiconductor materials through printing processes. This thesis will span the synthesis of nanocrystals, ligand exchange chemistry, solution phase characterization methods, thin film device fabrication, thin film characterization methods, and device characteristics. We will focus extensively relating the structure of nanocrystals in solution and in thin films to their chemistry, optical properties and electronic properties. By way of introduction, the origin and nature of semiconducto
