Abstract:

This study aims to describe the structure of metaphor in terms of topic elements, elements of image and sense elements in the narrative discourse. The data source in this study was obtained from a book collection of short stories and books on life travel stories in the form of published autobiographical books. The data of this study is an expression of metaphor in the form of phrases. Data collection techniques are done by documentation techniques, reading techniques, and note taking techniques. The results of this study indicate the topic elements in the structure of metaphors in narrative discourse forming five comparative concepts, namely (1) the concept of comparison of nouns, (2) the concept of comparison of nouns, (3) the concept of adjective noun, (4) the concept of adjective comparison -nomina, and (5) the concept of adjective-verb comparison. Image elements found in metaphorical structures include animal image elements, synesthesia image elements, anthropomorphic image elements, and abstract to concrete image elements. In the sense element or similarity point in this study found four similarity point categories, namely (1) the point of independence based on equality, (2) the point of similarity based on the function equation, (3) the point of similarity based on the equation of motion or direction, and (4) point similarity based on the equation of action. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan struktur metafora yang ditinjau dari unsur topik, unsur citra dan unsur sense dalam wacana narasi. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini diperoleh dari buku kumpulan cerpen dan buku kisah perjalanan hidup dalam bentuk buku autobiografi yang telah diterbitkan. Data penelitian ini adalah ungkapan metafora dalam bentuk frasa. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik dokumentasi, teknik baca, dan teknik catat. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan unsur topik pada struktur metafora dalam wacana narasi membentuk lima konsep perbandingan yaitu (1) konsep perbandingan nomina-nomina, (2) konsep perbandingan nomina-verba, (3) konsep perbandingan nomina-adjektiva, (4) konsep perbandingan adjektiva-nomina, dan (5) konsep perbandingan adjektiva-verba. Unsur citra yang ditemukan dalam struktur metafora meliputi unsur citra hewan, unsur citra sinestesia, unsur citra antropomofik, dan unsur citra abstrak ke konkret. Pada unsur sense atau titik kemiripan dalam penelitian ini ditemukan empat kategori titik kemiripan, yaitu (1) titik kemiripan berdasarkan persamaan sifat, (2) titik kemiripan berdasarkan persamaan fungsi, (3) titik kemiripan berdasarkan persamaan gerak atau arah, dan (4) titik kemiripan berdasarkan persamaan tindakan.

Abstract:

This paper aimed to explore the interpretation of the story of Thalut in QS. al-Baqarah: 246-251 using the semi-narrative theory of A.J. Greimas as an analytical tool. This structural theory is expected to explore the structure text of the text of the Qur'an. In addition, the narrative semiotics theory also opens up a new understanding of the text by looking at the inner structure and inner structure of the text. This understanding is not new, but it is able to bring meaning that is slightly diverse than most. The findings of the authors obtain that the story of Thalut in the Qur'an at least contains two structures of the narrative meaning of the text, namely the birth and the mind. The understanding gained from the textual structure of the narrative text is the existence of segments that describe how the Thalut struggle to save people from religious, socio-political and even moral crisis with the support of prayer, belief and knowledge. However, he is hindered by his hesitant and arrogant nature. As we know from the inner structure of the text, the story of Thalut in QS. Al-Baqarah: 246-251 shows how the verse describes the spirit of a person in reaching a business which in psychology studies is known also with the phenomenon of will (conation). In addition, the author sees the existence of other elements such as cultural inheritance (cultural transfered) that occurred in the Children of Israel. With the theory of narrative semiotics, the text of the Qur'an becomes more broadly meaningful and not only fixated on textual understanding.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untukmendeskripsikan interferensi struktur kalimat bahasa Mandarin yang ditulis olehmahasiswa semester VI stambuk 2013 Program Studi Sastra Cina, Fakultas IlmuBudaya, Universitas Sumatera Utara. Sumber data yang digunakan adalah karangannarasi bertemakan berlibur 放假 (fàngjià) oleh mahasiswa semester VI stambuk2013 Program Studi Sastra Cina, Fakultas Ilmu Budaya, Universitas Sumatera Utara(USU) yang berbahasa ibu bahasa Indonesia. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitianini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif. Pada tahap analisis data penelitian inimenggunakan metode agih Sudaryanto. Adapun teori digunakan dalam menganalisinterferensi struktur kalimat pada penelitian ini adalah hipotesis analisis kontrastif.Hipotesis analisis kontrastif merupakan penjabaran dari perbedaan antara dua bahasayang menjadi dasar penyebab kesulitan belajar bahasa dan kesalahan berbahasa yangdihadapi oleh siswa. Perbedaan yang terjadi teridentifikasi dari perbandingan strukturantara dua bahasa, bahasa pertama dan kedua yang akan dipelajari siswa. Abstract:

ABSTRACT The aim in this study is 1) to learn scheme aktan contained in the short stories of women that trick the Devils work Taufiq el-Hakim, and 2) to find out the relationship between structure and functional structure aktan in the formation of structure the story. As for the method used in this research is descriptive method with the data gathering techniques in the form of the technique note and the study of librarianship. The source of the data in this study is the short story of the woman who deceived the Devils, and the data in this study is the word or phrase contained in the short stories of women that trick the Devils. Based on research conducted there is one schema aktan and functional model structure that exists in the text or sentence short women the Devils work beguiling Taufiq el-Hakim. The relationship between structure and functional structure aktan, there is one pattern that becomes aktan scheme structures the story namely aktan scheme contained in the short stories of women that trick the Devils work Taufiq el-Hakim. This gives rise to the existence of a aktansial scheme of events that become the structure of the story of the woman who deceived the Devils. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah cerpen Al-Imra’at Ghalabati As-Syaiton, dan data dalam penelitian ini adalah kata atau kalimat yang terdapat dalam cerpen Al-Imra’at Ghalabati As-Syaiton. Berdasarkan penelitian yang dilakukan terdapat satu skema aktan dan struktur model fungsional yang ada dalam teks atau kalimat cerpen Al-Imra’at Ghalabati As-Syaiton karya Taufiq el-Hakim. Hubungan antara struktur aktan dan struktur fungsional terdapat satu pola skema aktan yang menjadi struktur cerita yaitu skema aktan yang terdapat dalam cerpen Al-Imra’at Ghalabati As-Syaiton karya Taufiq el-Hakim. Skema aktansial ini menimbulkan adanya peristiwa-peristiwa yang menjadi struktur cerita Al-Imra’at Ghalabati As-Syaiton. Abstract:

This paper provides the background to the process of translation and piloting of the Serbian version of the Multilingual Assessment Instrument for Narratives (LITMUS- MAIN), Multilingvalni Test za Procenu Narativa (MTPN). Our review of the sparse research literature on Serbian children’s narrative abilities reveals a need for a well- designed narrative instrument, which will enable researchers and practitioners to assess the production and comprehension of narratives in children of a wide age range, typically and atypically developing, monolingual and bilingual, crucially allowing for cross- linguistic comparisons. We encountered two kinds of challenges during the process of translation and adaptation of the instrument from English into Serbian. The first concerned the lack of established Serbian technical terminology needed to describe test administration to the future users of the test: researchers and practitioners working in different disciplines such as linguistics, psychology, Speech and Language Therapy. The second challenge concerned the translation of linguistic structures required to produce a successful rendition of the narrative: in contrast to English, but in line with other Slavic languages, Serbian relies heavily on verbs marked for perfective aspect in story-telling. Our discussion of preliminary data from four Serbian monolingual children, aged 5;5-10, demonstrates that MTPN is a successful tool in assessing narrative abilities in children acquiring Serbian.

The purpose of this research is to describe the interference of Indonesian sentence structure on the chinese structure in narrative writing by the sixth semester students of the Chinese Department, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, The University of Sumatera Utara. The source data of this research was narrative writing by the sixth semester students of the Chinese Department, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, The University of Sumatera Utara (USU) that using Indonesian as their mother language. The theme of that narrative writing was holiday(eGP) [fàngjià]. This research was a descriptive qualitative method. The Sudaryanto’s Agih method is used to analyze data. This research used Hypothesis of Contrastive Analysis. The Hypothesis of Contrastive Analysis was the description of differences between two languages which become a platform of difficulty and mistakes in language learning which is felt by students. The differencees that exist were identified from the comparison of two languages’ structures, the first and second languages. The result of research is: the interference of Indonesian sentence structure on the chinese structure narrative writing occurs on syntax function of chinese sentence, that used Indonesian sentence structure in simple sentence and also complex sentence. The interferences in the form of syntax function were at: complement, predicate and subject that used Indonesian sentence structure, and the using of Indonesian structure on clause and conjunction placement. ABSTRACTThis study aims to find out how factual and digital reality are depicted in film.Castells’ theory on new media is taken for the base theory, subjectivity-identity and power and knowledge by Foucault. Narrative analysis by Lacey is applied to seek answer for the research problem. The advancement of Communication Technology has enabled human beings to have freedom in imagination and make it real. Digital technology and virtual realm are enriched with emerging faked realities and identities. Film, becomes a platform for practising this kind of freedom, making fantasy feels like reality. Film Ready Player One? directed by Steven Spielberg depicts real and virtual world. This study aims to elaborate how real life and digital life are narrated and described in this film. A new identity created in The OASIS,the digital world that a place where mankind escape from reality. Units to be analysed in eight structures of analysis are story, plot, and character. Concludesis factual reality and digital reality are described well in this film, it even tends to hyper-reality. Suatu piranti yang mengubah manusia menjadi sangat tergantung dengan teknologi. Teknologi informasi dan komunikasi yang menciptakan dunia baru yaitu dunia digital. OASIS, dunia tempat pelarian manusia modern dan menciptakan identitas baru yaitu identitas virtual. Masyarakat informasi yang menciptakan realitas digital. Unit analisis story, plot, dan karakter dianalisis secara naratif dengan delapan struktur. Hasil analisis memberikan jawaban bahwa realitas nyata dan realitas digital digambarkan secara baik dalam film ini, bahkan cenderung berlebihan (hyper-reality). Abstract:

Sekarang ini wawacan sudah kurang dikenal lagi oleh masyarakat, karena kurangnya media informasi yang bisa memperkenalkan sastra lama kepada masyarakat. Selain itu orang yang bisa membaca dan yang mempunyai buku wawacanpun terbatas, karena tidak semua masyarakat mempunyai wawacan. Padahal banyak nilai-nilai dan filsafat hidup manusia yang terkandung didalamnya. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu agar dapat mengetahui nilai-nilai yang terkandung dalam wawacan, juga agar eksistensi sastra dalam bentuk tulisan tetap ada untuk diwariskan ke generasi yang akan datang. Adapun analisis yang dilakukan meliputi: (1) struktur naratif Wawacan Simbar Kancana Ngadeg Raja, (2) struktur naskah cerita teater gaok, dan (3) transformasi struktur Wawacan Simbar Kancana Ngadeg Raja pada naskah cerita teater gaok. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, metode deskriptif, dan teknik yang digunakan adalah studi pustaka. Berdasarkan pada hasil penelitian mengenai struktur, tema yang terdapat dalam Wawacan Simbar Kancana Ngadeg Raja adalah tema perjuangan. Pelakunya yaitu protagonis dan antagonis. Alurnya adalah alur maju. Latar tempat yang ditemukan yaitu di Kerajaan Talaga, Gunung Bitung, dan hutan. Sudut pandang dalam Wawacan Simbar Kancana Ngadeg Raja adalah pengarang jadi orang ketiga tidak terbatas, artinya pengarang bisa menjadi semua karakter dan menempatkan dirinya sebagai orang ketiga. Struktur naskah cerita teater gaok, tidak beda jauh dengan struktur naratif, dalam Wawacan Simbar Kancana Ngadeg Raja. Dari seluruh analisis struktur naratif, baik wawacan maupun naskah cerita teater gaok terdapat perbedaan, terutama pada alur cerita. Setelah dianalisis, Wawacan Simbar Kancana Ngadeg Raja kana Naskah Carita Teater Gaok bisa jadi media untuk melestarikan sejarah dan budaya lokal, oleh karena itu masyarakat akan lebih mengenal tentang sejarah lokal sebagai warisan budaya. ABSTRACTNowadays, wawacan is no longer known by the public due to the lack of media and information that could introduce old literature to the public. In addition, despite many values and philosophy of human life contained, neither all people can read nor have books of wawacan. The purpose of this study is to be aware of the values contained in wawacan, as well as for the existence of literature in written form remains to be passed on to the future generations. The analysis performed include: (1) the narrative structure Wawacan Simbar Kancana Ngadeg Raja, (2) the structure of gaok theater script, and (3) the transformation of the structure of Wawacan Simbar Kancana Ngadeg Raja in gaok theater script. To achieve these objectives, this study used a qualitative approach, descriptive method, and the techniques used are literature studies. Based on the results of research on the structure, themes contained in Wawacan Simbar Kancana Ngadeg Raja is the theme of the struggle. Players are protagonist and antagonist with chlorogonical plot used as its plot setting. Background places are found to be in the Kingdom Talaga, Gunung Bitung, and forests. To explain further, viewpoints used in Wawacan Simbar Kancana Ngadeg Raja is the author becomes the unlimited third person. It means that the author can be all the characters and putting himself in the third person. Moreover, the structure of gaok theater script are not much different from the narrative structure in Wawacan Simbar Kancana Ngadeg Raja. Analysis on narrative structures of wawacan and gaok theater script shows that there is a difference between them, especially in the storyline. Therefore, Wawacan Simbar Kancana Ngadeg Raja into gaok theatre script could be a means of preserving local history and culture so that the public will get to know about the local history as a cultural heritage.

Abstract:

The processs of changes among ex-recidivist convict is interesting issues in terms of how they face problems of living with society that impact on self-change. The purpose of this study was to explore the experience of an ex-recidivist convict in struggling to reintegrate into society. This research used qualitative approach with life-history method. One participant who is an ex-recidivist convict and two significant others were involved in this study. Data collected using semi-structured interviews and analyzed using narrative analysis. This study reveals 4 (four) major themes, the participant’s life before his change, the participant’s self-transformation, the ways he takes to face the obstacles of change and social context of the changing process. In general, the result of this study shows that the participant has succeeded his changing process which is signed by the fact that he does not do any criminal acts or another negative behaviour anymore. The self-changing has been increased by the participant through his efforts to change his surrounding environment into the better condition. Abstrak: Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh bagaimana proses perubahan mantan narapidana residivis baik dari segi permasalahan yang muncul serta dampak perubahan diri pada individu. Penelitian bertujuan mengungkap bagaimana pengalaman partisipan terkait proses perubahan, cara partisipan dalam menghadapi hambatan, serta keadaan lingkungan sosial pada proses perubahan. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode life history dengan analisis data naratif. Pengambilan data menggunakan metode wawancara semi-tersturktur yang terdiri dari 1 partisipan inti dan 2 orang significant other. Peneltian menghasilkan 4 tema besar yaitu kehidupan partisipan sebelum berubah, proses perubahan diri, cara menghadapi hambatan, kondisi lingkungan sosial dalam proses perubahan. Hasil secara umum menunjukkan bahwa partisipan berhasil dalam proses perubahannya yang ditandai tidak kembali melakukan tindakan kriminal ataupun perilaku negatif lainnya. Perubahan diri juga partisipan tingkatkan dengan usahanya dalam mengubah lingkungan.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the national presentation of the Czech Republic at EXPO 2010 in Shanghai in terms of mythology, symbols, signs and codes. It describes the history of the World Exhibitions, attempts to highlight Czechoslovak achievements and on the basis of that to define key points of successful communication for an international, predominately Chinese audience. By comparing information on traditional Chinese symbols and values with that of Czech explains correlations between Czech and Chinese culture. This can help visitors from China identify with the Czech Republic. A mythological analysis is executed examining the exterior of the Czech pavilion, the exhibition inside, and notes narrative structures of individual exhibits and how they work to provide the preferred interpretation. Part of the overall analysis includes an overview of supporting events, which also help to strengthen the perception of Czech Republic to visitors. The information gleaned is used to summarize learnings that could be useful for the upcoming EXPO in Milan in 2015.

Jiří Dynda Byliny of bogatyr Svyatogor: Structural and Comparative Analysis of Narrative (MA Thesis) Abstract This thesis is an analysis and interpretation of the thirty seven textual variants of the byliny of bogatyr Svyatogor. After the general introduction to the Russian folk epics and after the presentation of issues concerning the study of oral epic literature, author's own structural concept of myth and cultural representations is presented. In the central part the thesis attempts to apply these principles to the narrative of the byliny of Svyatogor and by means of a thorough analysis it indicates, which motives and their relations were fundamental for this narrative to make sense in the local context of bylinaic tradition. The thesis claims that these narratives primarily deal with the themes of the initiation of a young hero, the generation conflict and the transmission of a mentor's position to his apprentice (or, metaphorically, a father's position to his son). This hypothesis is subsequently tested via a two phased comparative analysis of the central motives and their clusters: Firstly, the comparison is made in the context of the bylinaic traditions per se and in the context of the ethnographic situation at the Russian North (internal comparison), and secondly, in the wider scope of the Eurasian...

Conspiracy theories are an old-new phenomenon which has gained its importance and specific character over the last three centuries. Unofficially, they have become an alternative tradition of the interpretation of historical events connected with an alternative form of spirituality, known as conspirituality. This manner of the interpretation usually holds the power when the consensually accepted worldview loses its plausibility for the concrete person or group. Conspiracy theories are the verbalization of a certain way of thinking and action which depends on it. Most often, they are manifested in the form of myths. That is understood as one of the dominant structures, commonly connected with traditionally perceived religion. From this point of view and in terms of the function associated with conspiracy narratives, conspiracy theories are examined as functional and structural equivalents of religion. These functions are especially the defense of the order (nomos), differentiation of the outer reality or the explanation of the presence of Evil in the world. In addition, they can also become a medium or tool of social actors in power relations. is study is composed of two units: manuscript of the author's publication Interpreting Ancient Egyptian Narratives: A Structural Analysis of the Tale of Two Brothers, the Anat Myth, the Osirian Cycle, and the Astarte Papyrus (Nouvelles études orientales, Bruxelles-Fernelmont: EME, 2014) and an additonal chapter entitled Accommodating Ambivalence: Case of the Doomed Prince and His Dog, which follows directly a er the Index of the first unit and which extends the applied methodology to yet another New Kingdom mythological narrative, the so-called Tale of the Doomed Prince. Methodologically, the author follows the neo-structuralist approach. This thesis deals with a motive, very frequent in the novels of Haruki Murakami: a male protagonist trying to save his spouse, who has disappeared in a "different world". This can be of course interpreted as an orphic myth variation. However, the version used by Murakami resembles the story of Izanagi and Izanami deities in the Kojiki, ancient Japanese chronicle, more than the Greek orphic myth. Therefore, the motive is treated like a specific "Izanagi myth" variation here in the thesis, and the examination of its function is focused on the novels, the most important segment of Murakami's work. Murakami intentionally uses a very complicated form of narration in the novels. Therefore, to examine the exact function of Izanagi myth motive in the novel stories, a method of abstraction of these stories from their narrative discourses is used, based on the theories of Seymour Chatman. According to these theories, stories are strictly chronological sequences of events, while narrative discourses are more specific forms of these sequences, processed by the narrators. Abstract:

This Master's thesis focuses on elements and manifestations of propaganda in selected films from the James Bond film series. The first part defines the scope of term "propaganda" from the point of view of communication and media studies. It also describes various authors' perspectives on different types and ways of propagandist persuasive message spread and how it can be revealed using discourse analysis. The thesis reflects especially the pragmatic approach of authors Jowett and O'Donnell and is compared to other cardinal approaches. The theoretical part also puts propaganda into context of time, i. e. the Cold War, and it mentions specific cases of its impact. The thesis deals with James Bond films as such, in particular with their narrative and its mythological and stereotypization constituent. James Bond films are examined, in the practical part, using content analysis. The aim is to detect described pro-eastern propaganda elements, analyse their manifestation and answer the research questions.

This work describes a special kind of story about the journey there and back again or journey to gain experience. The nature of this narrative is given by the presence of several key points: the existence of primary and secondary world, wandering throughout secondary world, the transformation of a hero and a reader, homecoming. Presented definition of the story is the starting point from which are being searched connections with the professional disciplines of social work and ethics. In social work the diagram of these trips back and forth presents acquiring an expertise in various scientific fields. For plane of ethics it is particularly significant credibility of the moment from this journey back and forth when the story of the hero and the reader becomes a good (or bad) story positive or negative.

The intention of this work is to monitor changes significant natural place - the Giant Mountains Heidelberg / Zaly in the 19th century, when the topographical point in the country without national or sacred past, becoming a symbolic place of memory, based on an analysis of available sources to determine which social "entities "the creation of this symbolic" construct "involved. The culmination of this symbolic metamorphosis in the place of memory was the construction of the observation tower atop Czech tourists in the nineties, who within the nationalist "rivalry" between the Czech and German tourist organizations of "dominating the hill" reluctant to use toponomastic arguments interpreting the origin of the Czech name of the mountain, that, however, not based on the real facts, but only on certain notions of local "culture of remembrance". These ideas survived and were kept for centuries in memories as a myth a symbolic level the collective memory of the local ethnic (Czech) population during the 19th century, and spread thanks to a first layer of civil servants-topographers and later mainly due to expansion of tourist clubs. Diploma thesis "Principles of popularization of scientific knowledge on the Czech and American news servers" evaluates and compares news published during three month period in scientific sections of news servers in the Czech Republic and the United States of America. The thesis follows room provided for scientific topics, the audiovisual features and theme agenda on NYTimes.com, USAToday.com, iDnes.cz and Novinky.cz. The results are accomplished through the quantitative content analysis which is supplemented by the qualitative semiotic analysis. The semiotic analysis determins compositional and narrative structures and the language features in the articles. It is very important to be concerned about the scientific journalism, as science is important in people's lives and, furthermore, it is the public who helps to support scientific efforts financially. Thus, scientists should be concerned about and aware of science communication in media.
