Abstract:
This thesis explores nine individuals’ personal experiences with sexual assault and rape. The project provides a platform for voices that have been historically silenced, striving to empower and support survivors while raising awareness on the pertinent issues surrounding sexual assault and rape. By engaging in the tension between the individual narratives and the collective dimension of the experience of sexual assault, this thesis reframes the relationship between the personal and the political.

Abstract:
This thesis analyses the 'rape-revenge' films of the post- 1970 period. Against the tendency of existing work in this area to categorize rape-revenge as a sub-genre of horror, I argue that rape-revenge is better understood as a narrative structure which, on meeting the discourses of second-wave feminism in the 1970s, has produced an historically specific, but generically diverse cycle of films. I suggest, therefore, that the rape-revenge cycle might usefully be read as one of the key ways in which Hollywood has attempted to make sense of feminism and the changing shape of heterosexual feminini

South Africa has one of the highest rates of rape in the world. Experiencing rape frequently proposes substantial consequences on survivors’ physical, psychological and social wellbeing, which accentuates the importance of providing survivors with help, support, and protection. However, the scarce studies examining survivors’ experiences with the support system indicate many flaws within the system, sometimes even resulting in further harm. This failure of governmental support systems stimulated an increasing manifestation of NGOs as providers of survivor support. It is consequently crucial to

Abstract:
The research and critical readings in this study attempt to comment on changing constructions of the victim, voice and consent in popular representations of rape post rape law reform. The study draws on a wealth of research in film, gender studies, literature, the law and sociology pointing to changing representations and mindsets after rape law reform and feminism. The early feminist emphasis on women’s stories and the telling of victim’s narratives has led to a cultural climate which naturalizes the telling of the victim’s story and justifies representations of "real narratives." Additionally, the study examined the effectiveness of the Alternative Education project organised by the school in a bid to engage disaffected pupils
