Abstract The transportation network and ways in which it is maintained are critical to the development of a nation. National Highways (NHs) constitute only 2.3 per cent of total road network but carry 40 per cent of road traffic in India. National Highway authority of India (NHAI) and Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) of India have framed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for assessment and rating of divided 4 to 6-lane NHs based on highway efficiency, highway safety, and user services for a total of 100 marks. ABSTRACT Background: Highways represent the most significant capital asset that any country’s public sector holds. A system of national highways with easy access to ambulance and trauma centers is termed emergency rescue ready and helps reduce the mortality due to road accidents. Given the rich impetus for road infrastructure development by the government of India, there is a need to consider emergency rescue readiness on highways. Previous research suggests that on typical Indian highways, an ambulance can reach the accident scene within 30 minutes; the remaining 30 minutes of golden hour is

Abstract The road network plays the most important role in the development of India’s infrastructure. Through the initiative of rating national highways, we will be able to set standards for quality highway services, and as a result, road users will receive excellent value for their money. Moreover, better quality Indian Highways will lead to safer travel experiences and consequently result in fewer road accidents and fatalities. The effort for evaluating the roads was done by US Department of Transportation in 1950s as has been highlighted in the Highway Sufficiency Rating Manual of 1952. How

Abstract:
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), during 2016 there were 7,277,000 vehicle crashes nationally. Among them, approximately 70% happened during the daytime and around 30% of crashes occurred during the nighttime. There were 11,375 nighttime fatal crashes that account for about 48% of total fatal crashes (23,714). Given the fact that only 25%–33% of the vehicle miles traveled (VMT) occur at night, the above statistics indicate that the nighttime crash fatality rate is much higher and nighttime crashes are usually more severe compared to daytime crashes. Abstract:
Construction is a large sector of the economy and plays a significant role in creating economic growth and national development, and construction of transportation infrastructure is critical. This project developed a method to detect, classify, monitor, and track objects during the construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation of transportation infrastructure by using artificial intelligence and a deep learning approach. This study evaluated the performance of AI and deep learning algorithms to compare their performance in detecting and classifying the equipment in various construction scenes.

Abstract:
This study documents impacts to the Fremont River that were initiated by the construction of Utah State Route 24 in 1962 within what is now Capitol Reef National Park (CARE). The highway and related river modifications led to an artificial abandonment of a 4000 ft long river meander, creation of a channel bed knickpoint (i.e., waterfall), and at least 9 ft of vertical incision into the underlying Navajo Sandstone. Channel incision also appears to have translated upstream, as we found a significant trend of a deeper channel immediately upstream of the knickpoint that transitioned to being wider

In road mitigation systems characterized by multiple wildlife crossing structures (CS) and multiple-focal species, these species-specific design criteria are important to meeting management goals. CS types and locations are fixed in place and cannot be manipulated experimentally; long term studies may offer the best chance to inform evidence-based designs for new CS projects in the future. Long-term data from Banff National Park are uniquely posed to answer these critical questions. More recently, highway mitigation along US93 in Montana provides an additional case study with which to understa

Abstract:
Bridge strikes—events where over-height vehicles impact bridge superstructures—are common across the United States and pose significant challenges for bridge owners. When a bridge strike occurs, bridge owners must assess the damage and determine what, if any, action is required. A survey of state highway agencies was conducted, and 23 responses were received. States reported general metrics about low-clearance bridges and bridge strikes, and data from the National Bridge Inventory were analyzed to provide additional insight. States also reported information about inspection, analysis, and repa
