Despite its aridity, Namibia contains a surprisingly species-rich biota with high levels of endemism and an unprecedented land portion of intact wilderness. However, as a developing country, the expanding human population is increasing pressure on the country's rich, but severely understudied ecosystems. An efficient flow of baseline biodiversity data is key for facilitating biosystematics and biogeographic research, which inform conservation planning and sustainable development. Recent theories of character work – the rhetorical construction of heroes, villains, victims, and minions – reveal the challenges of building an inclusive nationalism in post-colonial states. The Independence Memorial Museum is the latest addition to the post-independence memorial landscape by Namibia’s ruling party, South West African People’s Organisation (or the Swapo Party). Like many other southern African liberation movements turned ruling political parties, Swapo has looked towards history to find legitimation and support in the present. This is referred to in this research as the creation of a Swapo master narrative of liberation history. It is a selective and subjective re-telling of history which ultimately works to conflate Swapo with the Nation. As such, Swapo has been

Abstract:
In 2024 we marked the first year in a five year cooperative agreement between the Master Melittologist Oregon Bee Atlas Program (OBA) and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) for the inventory and monitoring of bees on National Wildlife Refuges (NWRs) in Pacific Region 1 and other federal lands in the Pacific Northwest. The Master Melittologist program is an initiative of the Oregon State University Extension Service which is provided, in part, to train volunteer Master Melittologists to collect museum quality native bee specimens in service to the Oregon Bee Atlas. Vicksburg National Military Park (VICK) was established for its historical significance as a one of the principle military sieges resulting in a turning point during the American Civil War. The steep terrain around the city of Vicksburg was integral in the military siege, providing high vantage points and a substrate that was easy to entrench for the armies, but unknown to many is the fossil content, particularly a diversity of fossil mollusks. These fossils at VICK are important paleontological resources which have yet to receive focused attention from park staff, visitors, and researchers. T

Abstract:
Effigy Mounds National Monument (EFMO) in northeastern Iowa was proclaimed on October 25, 1949, to protect a significant concentration of Native American burial mounds, many of which were built in the shapes of animals such as bears. Many of these effigy mounds are found atop commanding bluffs flanking the Yellow River at its junction with the Mississippi River. The geology of the monument has not been a central interest in its history, but the rocks contain evidence of millions of years of shallow marine life from the early Paleozoic. Paleozoic fossils were first documented at what is now EFM
