Several studies have confirmed that the natural environment has psychophysiological healing effects. However, few studies have investigated the healing process involved in the effect of the natural environment. To date, no theoretical model on the nature-based therapy process has been clearly established. Thus, the aim of this study was to develop a theoretical model of the nature-based therapy process by analyzing individual empirical data. Abstract:
AbstractA solution to cope with chaotic urban settlements and frenetic everyday life is refuging in nature as a way to reduce stress. In general—in recent years—it has been scientifically demonstrated how natural areas are an important environment for psycho-physiological health. As a consequence, it is important to plan dedicated spaces for stress recovery in order to increase the well-being of people. With respect to forests, there is a growing interest in understanding the marketing and tourist potential of forest-therapy activities and policies. This paper develops a decision support system (DSS) for decision makers, based on geographic information system to define the suitability of forest areas to improve psychological and physiological human well-being. Innovative technologies such as electroencephalography (EEG) and virtual reality (VR) are applied to test human status. The DSS combines four sets of indicators in a multi-attribute decision analysis and identifies the areas with the largest stress-recovery potential. Two multi-attribute model—one in summer and one in winter—are elaborated to obtain a dynamic evaluation of suitability. Results show significant differences among forest type, forest management, altitude range, and season in terms of stand suitability. EEG and VR seem to be promising technologies in this research area. Strengths and weaknesses of the approach, as well as potential future improvement and implications for territorial marketing, are suggested.

Abstract The Slovenian welfare system in its main part consists of a contribution-funded, professional social insurance scheme, composed of compulsory insurance branches, which mirror traditional social risks (contingencies) such as unemployment, old-age, sickness, etc., and a subsidiary tax-funded, residence-based social assistance scheme, which is aimed at preventing poverty and social exclusion. In general, all gainfully employed persons in Slovenia (e.g. workers, self-employed persons) enjoy coverage within the social insurance scheme, irrespective of their nationality or residence status. Citizenship and/or (long-term) residence is however required when accessing means-tested social assistance benefits. Migrants’ access to social rights – with the majority of foreign residents originating from ex-Yugoslav countries – is thereby fore and foremost dependent upon the nature of the benefit (means-tested or not) and their economic (in)activity or (long-term) residence.

Abstract:
Treatment of cognitive and functional impairment in older people is complex due to the increased risk of concurrent somatic and psychiatric co-morbidities. One goal of geriatricians is to reduce the pharmacological load of frail elders in the effort to improve quality of life. Horticultural therapy and the use of gardens specifically designed for the needs of this population is receiving increased attention as a nonpharmacological treatment modality. Preliminary studies support the effectiveness of horticultural therapy and the use of gardens to reduce agitation in dementia patients. Initial data suggest a direct correlation of time spent in the gardens with positive outcomes. Qualitative studies support improved quality of life when frail elders have access to and interact with outdoor spaces. Additional research with standardized methodology would assist in providing and evaluating appropriate outdoor spaces and evidenced-based treatment plans.

Abstract:
Exoskeleton based rehabilitation for post-stroke recovery is being aggressively pursued due to unavailability of adequate number of caregivers and huge investment for the manual treatment [1]. The structural framework for providing different training exercises is not similar for all exoskeletons and there is no standardized protocol for rehabilitation following stroke [2]. Various approaches have been undertaken to come up with customized exoskeleton design for implementing a specific type of exercise. Though a few exoskeletons have proved to be beneficial in terms of clinical outcomes, there

Photothermal therapy is a cancer treatment that utilizes light energy to deposit specific amounts of heat to effectively kill cells in a specified tumor region. While Hyperthermia has been widely used for centuries as a treatment option for a variety of diseases, Localized Hyperthermia, as seen in photothermal therapies, has seen a rapid increase in use as a cancer treatment due to its non-invasive nature, low cost, simplicity, and reduced complications as compared to other currently available resection options [1]. The inclusion of nanoparticles that are capable of intense absorption in a spe

Abstract:
"Borderline Personality Disorder is arguably the most distressing disorder amongst the DSM diagnoses for all involved. Although psychiatric labelling can be validating it is often stigmatising. Due to the nature of BPD, people living with the disorder (PBPD) tend to be marginalized and discriminated against. A quick and random review of the World Wide Web (including a selection of popular social media platforms) reveals a common linguistic theme in describing BPD. PBPD are ‘toxic’, ‘difficult’ and ‘manipulative. Other labels, more diagnostically - oriented see PBPD as the ‘PDs’ or ‘the borderl

Mechanical changes in breast tissues as a result of cancer are usually detected through palpation by the physician and/or self examination. However, physicians are unable to palpate most masses under 1 cm in diameter and microscopic diseases. The goal of our study is to introduce the application of the Harmonic Motion Imaging (HMI), an acoustic radiation force technique, for reliable sensitive tumor detection and real-time monitoring of tumor ablation. Here, we applied the HMI technique using a single-element Focused Ultrasound (FUS) transducer. Due to the highly localized and harmonic nature

Abstract:
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia affecting approximately 3 million Americans, and is a prognostic marker for stroke, heart failure and even death [1]. 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) is used to monitor normal sinus rhythm (NSR) and also detect AF. Although the persistent form of AF can be detected relatively easy, detecting paroxysmal AF is often a challenge since requiring continuous monitoring, which becomes expensive and cumbersome to collect lot of ECG data [1]. Several researchers have attempted to develop new methods to discriminate NSR and AF whic

The American Red Cross is developing a Coagu.lation Factor X (FX) concentrate to provide a safer alternative for replacement therapy in Factor X deficient patients, who can experience thromboembolic complications with current treatments. Based on a survey of hemophilia treatment centers, we estimate the frequency of the homozygous disorder to be approximately 1/150th that of hemophilia A, or about 65 patients in the USA. We have devised a method for producing FX as a by-product of our Coagulation Factor IX concentrate (FIX). The method starts with adsorption of cryoprecipitate supernatant plas
