This article reports on a preliminary study of an English-lexifier Pidgin spoken on the tiny Pacific island of Nauru. This pidgin has distinctive features of both Chinese Pidgin English and Pacific Pidgin English, as well as many unique characteristics. Socio-historical information shows that these two forms of Pidgin English have come into contact in Nauru and the data suggests that pidgin mixing, a form of koineization, has occurred. The linguistic consequences of such a mixture are similar to those of the mixing of other linguistic subsystems such as regional dialects. The data also support

The objective of the study was to describe appropriateness of modal auxiliary verbs in class six written English. The study focused on the use of English modal auxiliary verbs by class six pupils from diverse language backgrounds in Kenyan primary schools. Modal auxiliary verbs are difficult as their use entails syntactic and semantic appropriateness. As such, most pupils often find themselves unable to use this complex linguistic feature in written English. In spite of this, there is no known documentation that focuses on modal auxiliary verbs among children. It is this gap that the current s

By studying the Chinese number and quantifier prefix (CNQP) as a special language phenomenon in machine translation, this paper presents a CNQP recognition method, which is rule based and independent of word segmentation. The method expressed CNQPs compositions using Backus-Naur Form (BNF), and took the numeral as the active information and the quantifiers as the boundaries of the CNQPs. To avoid the word segmentation noise, a forward maximum matching method was used for obtaining the compositions of the CNQPs, which can be fed into the statistical parser for the analysis of the Chinese senten

The works related to various ways of scenario description in their development systems are analyzed. For the natural language description of scenarios, it is indicated that this approach is sufficiently transparent and understandable for users. However, this approach has several disadvantages for formalizing and unifying scenario description. In particular, the presence of a number of ambiguities in the language makes it impossible for the description to be uniquely interpreted, and as a resul

While LLMs have shown success in program synthesis from a task description, they often struggle to generate the correct code due to ambiguity in task specifications, complex programming syntax, and lack of reliability in the generated code.
