AbstractFerdinand von Wrangell (1796–1870) was one of the most successful explorers of the Russian Arctic. After participating in V.M. Golovnin's circumnavigation in 1817–19, he was appointed the commander of the Kolyma group of the northeast Siberian expedition of 1820–24. Wrangell later became a hugely significant figure in the Russian Empire, serving as governor-general in Alaska, director of the Russian-American Company, and the head of the hydrographic department of the Russian Admiralty, before being made a baron and promoted to admiral. In the twentieth century, asbestos was used extensively in Britain’s Royal Naval Dockyards, especially between the mid-1940s and 1960s. In an era of international tension and conflict, it was invaluable for fire protection and thermal insulation on warships. In 1930, it was established that heavy and prolonged exposure to asbestos dust could cause asbestosis, and from 1931, precautions were required to protect at-risk workers in asbestos factories. These precautions did not apply on ships under construction or undergoing refit or repair in HM Dockyards. Until the 1960s, notwithstanding that as

An analysis of the work of these authors shows that, contrary to the view prevailing in modern historiography, that Arab artists began to actively refer to the Crusades era only in the second half of the 20th century, already in the Arab poetry and prose of the 19th century, numerous references to this era are found. Drake captured the galleass “Nuestra Señora del Rosario”, commanded by Valdes after having been damaged and left unusable, and Don Pedro suffered captivity in England for several years until a high ransom was paid by his family. Survivors who reached North Russia frequently required skilled hospital care but, sadly, this was not available to any in the initial year or so of the operation.
