Abstract:
In the network-based DNC systems and especially heterogeneous DNC systems data get more distributed due to the ability to store not only in the DNC Server but also in the CNC controller or CNC Terminal. This leads a challenge to the DNC software in the implementation of its basic functions. The agent-based DNC software with assistants (ADNC) is suggested to solve the above problem. Its tasks are to collect distributed NC information and transfer data safely as well as performing other extended functions, i.e. NC program generation, machine data collection, production data collection, control machines in system, etc. The present work presented the concept to develop the ADNC and its first prototype. This prototype was developed in a process using a framework of agent-based assistants, called AgentAP. It is applicable on distributed manufacturing data and had been implemented on the agent platform JADE. The module Program Assistant, one of these prototype modules, which is responsible for management, bidirectional transfer, and monitoring change of NC programs, is also discussed

Abstract:
The goal of this master thesis was to automate the compensation of NC-programs. Automatic compensations can reduce errors and make the production more efficient. This is vital for increased precision and meeting the quality demands from the market. The project started with a study of how the feedback-loop between production and measurements was done at the time and also researching how the data could be sent between the different machines. This was done by researching solutions of similar problems and interviewing the machine operators. Simulations of how automation could be done with more in-depth measurements of the production machine were also made. The limitations was also evaluated. Research was done on errors and practical flaws which could be problematic for automation. The automation was implemented using Java to send the data between the measuring machine to the production machine. Furthermore a UI was created for the machine operators so that the information flow was under supervision at all times. The UI would suggest a compensation from a pre-programmed algorithm together with the measuring data, and the operator could then decide whether or not to diverge from the suggested compensation.

Abstract:
Existing NC verification tools concentrate on graphical display of tool path and collision detection only. The objective of this work is to demonstrate that information regarding the nature of machining being performed can be extracted from NC code, work and tool material properties, and initial geometric profile of workpiece. Based on this information, values of performance measures (such as cutting force, tool wear, cutting temperatures, chip formation and surface finish) can be estimated using theoretical or empirical models. A software simulation tool is developed to demonstrate this. The software tool runs under X-Windows on a Sun workstation. It generates the following output: graphical display of tool path, cutting forces, tool-chip interface temperature, flank wear of cutting tool, surface finish generated and nature of chip formation. At every stage of simulation, the current profile of workpiece resulting from each machining operation is computed, by finding regions of intersection of previous workpiece profile and current tool path. In its present version, this software tool is capable of simulating performance measures for turning operations only. However it can perform graphical display of 3-D toolpath.

The controller provides the user with GM Code input to operate the machine tool, and hence, controls the cutting path of the machine tool. GM Code can be converted to internal commands of the controller via compiler, and it is considered as one of the key technologies when developing controllers. In another aspect, machining monitoring and machining operations must rely on field operators, which causes time and space restriction. In order to deal with this problem, it has become a trend to monitor and operate machining through mobile devices in recent years. For these purposes, this study has the following two major projects. (1) Developed a hybrid programming system for NC programs. This study explores the rules of GM Code, implements NC program compilation according to the rules. It can convert the input NC program into an intermediate code. The interpreter takes the intermediate code as input and generates controller internal commands. (2) Develop a human-machine interface, provide users with machine monitoring and transmit user commands to the hybrid programming system via Socket connection. The compile server parses out the command from the received packet and execute the controller internal command or execute the compiler according to the command. The system proposed in this study plans a new lexical analysis, syntax analysis, semantic analysis implementation method in GM Code compilation. We analyze and process the modal G code so that it can be converted correctly, and implement the human-machine interface, so that users can monitor the machine remotely and achieve mobile processing, which solves the problem that operators are limited by time and space during manufacturing.

The task of post-processing for a NC machining program is to convert cutter location data generated by CAM software into specific numerical control data as required by a 5-axis NC machine tool for the machining process. The purpose of this study is to use a 3D solid model to simulate the machining program generated in post-processing of 5-axis NC machining. Research issues include coordinate transformations of cutter paths, correction of unsmooth cutter paths, and calculation of appropriate feed rates for 5-axis machining. Wherein, a spherical two-circle method is adopted for coordinate transformations, an interpolation method is used to solve the unsmooth cutter path problem, and a variable feed rate concept used in high-speed 4-axis NC machining is adopted in calculating feed rates. Finally, the spherical two-circle method, the interpolation method and feed rate calculation are integrated, and through the simulation of tool paths using a 3D solid modeling system, the post-processing operations of a 5-axis machine tool are clearly presented.

When generating NC codes, most CAD / CAM systems use tiny linear segments (Gol) to aproach the entire contour surface. When the requirement of part accuracy becomes higher, it may result in excessive size of NC. file. Due to the limitation of transfer speed, it usually takes longer machining time. The face angle of the machined surface also becomes extremely distinct. To control the machining accuracy and the surface roughness of the machined part, we need to control the machine spindle speed and the machining feedrate. The rotational speed is relied on te design of a good spindle, while the feedrate can be controlled by a good NC program. However, most NC programs neglect the feedrate control problem. Therefore, it is often to see that NC programs pass the simulation test but fail in the real cutting situations. In this thesis, we combine linear and circular machining methods to improve the machining efficiency. Not only are the NC codes reduced in size, but the transfer burden is also lessened. In addition, we develop an algorithm for automatic feedrate adjustment, which helps to optimize the feedrate while maintaining a required machining accuracy. Other than these, we also develop a simulation and verification system to verify the improved NC codes. The resulting system can effectively improve existing NC programs and therefore will be very useful for die and mold manufacturing industries to increase their productivity.
