Abstract:

In recent years, optical near-field has received an ever-increasing attention owing to its ability to localise optical signals beyond the diffraction limit. Optical near-field is a non-propagating field existing in the close vicinity of a matter within a range less than the wavelength of the illumination light and it carries the high spatial frequency information showing the fine details of the matter. An optical near-field can be generated by a near-field optical microscope with a nano-aperture or a metal-coated fibre tip. However, common difficulties associated with this approach, such as a

Most of these buildings have been or are built without consideration of their vulnerability to such events. The thesis describes the radiation of dipole antennas in near field area. More methods for evaluation of spatial dipole field arrangement are compared. The work target for practical use is to create software for simulation of near field values placed in planar or cylindrical observation plane. The computer programme is applicable to single dipole or dipole array. The limits for human body exposition of non-ionizing radiation are here implemented for compliance purpose in hygienic evaluations. We show our progress in setting up a three grating near-field Talbot-Lau interferometer (TLI) for large molecules such as C60. The TLI is the preferred tool for showing the wave nature of large particles, as it accepts beams of poor spatial coherence and because of its scaling properties with increasing mass of the particles. The spatial coherence is prepared by the first grating, it can be seen as an array of many collimation slits. Our setup is highly flexible in terms of the possibility of changing most of the parameters (such as distances between the gratings and grating angles) from the o

Abstract The worldwide success of wireless communications was originally fueled by the possibility to replace existing cables with wireless solutions. This phenomenon imposed the development of security engineering as a multidisciplinary field. Although wireless solutions can reduce installation costs and allow introducing new services, the end–users expect it to have the same level of security as they would normally have with wired solutions. Secure communications is an important part of the overall security of industrial wireless communications systems (IWCS). The aim of this thesis is to de

This dissertation includes a theoretical and numerical development to simulate liquid-vapor flows and the applications to microchannels. First, we obtain a consistent non-local pressure equation for simulating liquid-vapor interfacial flows using mean-field free-energy theory. This new pressure equation is shown to be the general form of the classical van der Waals" square-gradient theory. The new equation is implemented in two-dimensional (2D) D2Q7, D2Q9, and three-dimensional (3D) D3Q19 lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). Abstract:
In this work, two approaches for computing the near-field distribution around wind turbines are proposed, including: (1) Huygens Principle and (2) the parabolic equation technique. In order to simplify the problem, the cylinder model is utilized to represent the wind turbines and transform the problem into a two-dimensional case. To make Huygens Principle computationally tractable, several approximations are made based on the problem geometry especially modelling the cylinder as a plate. Enhancing the performance of mixing and fluid entrainment by excitation of quasi-steady jets has been a subject of research for more than three decades. During the 1980s a special emphasis was placed on mechanically oscillating planar jets and the possibility to augment thrust of V/STOL aircraft. However, during this time, little attention was paid to the classification of flow regimes, the development of coherent structures or the existence of different regions in the flow within the jet near field. Near-field microscopy is a versatile technique for non-destructive detection of optical properties on the nanometer scale. Contrary to conventional microscopy techniques, the resolution in near-field microscopy is not restricted by the diffraction limit, but by the size of the probe only. Typically, wavelength-independent resolution in the range of few ten nanometers can be achieved. Many fundamental phenomena in solid states occur at such small length scales and can be probed by infrared and THz radiation.
